Went to this range with friends from the Plainfield area. (Normally shoot at GAT or OnTarget in the northwest burbs)

Need FOID to enter????? Proceed to walk around, spacious facilities. Made it over to the range desk. Kevin and Pat (trainee) were extremely rude. Micro managed the three of us filling out our paperwork, buying ammo, and targets. After they found out I didnt need ammo, I was nonexistent to them. MUST USE THEIR TARGETS, WHAT A JOKE!!!

Entered the range and shot for an hour or so. Standard range facility, nothing to boast over. Went to use the wash room and when I came back to shoot I was locked out. Had to stand around until they noticed me waiting to reenter the range. More of my time wasted.

The entire staff was condescending. Gave the impression that they are the only range around.

I WILL NEVER RETURN NOR SEND ANYONE TO MEGA SPORTS.

Megasports is clean, well lit and looks like a top tier gun dealership. The prices are on the high side but in line with Bass Pro Shops and the like. I visited on a Friday afternoon and the place was not crowded, the staff was very friendly & helpful and there was no waiting line to look at guns. It may be a different experience on weekends when their are probably packed.

I haven't used their range yet, I plan to do that next week and I will report on my experiences.

I have been to mega sports many times as I live in the neighborhood and have had nothing but great experiences there. The range is clean the guys behind the counter are always helpful and knowledgeable about the different firearms for rent,my wife rents a gun everytime she goes to the range the guys are always there to answer any questions she may have. I have purchased a firearm from there and they even price matched because another shop had the gun listed for a cheaper price. I definitely do not have anything negative to say about mega sports. The guys behind the counters are professionals they take their jobs seriously.

MEGA RIPOFF would be a understatement. Just moving into Will County I looked forward to walking into an gun shop and not needing to grab a handful of Vaseline on the way in.

Please please do your homework guys. Yes they carry a vast vast area of weapons but the prices are insulting. Go online and see what the firearm you are looking for goes for. There are plenty of FFL's who will facilitate a transfer for a fraction of the cost.

Go in to mega rip off to fondle your new item you plan on purchasing then order it somewhere else.

If I could give negative stars, this place would rate them. Went in with my son (20 at that time and in possession of a valid FOID card) to shoot my .45 and to rent a pistol for my son to use. After we signed up and waited nearly an hour, we get told that he can't shoot because he's not 21 -- even with his father standing right there with him. This is not, of course, state law, it's just jerk-wad policy. While we were waiting, we looked at some firearms that I'm in the market to buy, and I have to say I've never met a more supercilious, self-impressed, rude bunch of jag-bags in my life. I get that someone working in a gun shop is apt to know more than the average joe about firearms, but: a) lording it over people is not the way to make a sale; b) not everybody that comes into your store is an idiot (I've been shooting in and out of the military for nearly 40 years, and pretty much know which end launches the bullets); c) if you're going to be snobby pricks, at least have prices that are competitive. I'll never spend a dime here.

Great place to buy just about everything sports or hunting related. No FFL at this time, hope that changes. But otherwise great customer service and great selection of hand guns. Plan to go back soon to try out their range.

First time going, staff was very friendly and explained what was expected of customers clearly and politely. Was able to get some great aim practice in with a friend of mine. Will be going back again.

Wide variety of products, like it for that. Prices on high side, so unless really need right away I order on line. As for the range, gave up a while ago. Guys running range can be a pain and cranky.

Great store as far as selection. However, they are kind of like going to Grandma's house. They make you feel like you aren't suppose to be there. They have a lot of rules, like having to use their targets. Also, I tried to return an unused range bag after a few days, but they refused because the a paper tag was missing. I promptly showed them multiple bag in the store also missing the tags. They still would not return it. Might as well put up a sign that says "All Sales Final". FINALLY, they DO NOT offer either a military or law enforcement discount.

I first went to Mega Sports on 3/15 with 3 other people, and we all received great service! It was my first time in the store and they made a great first impression! I was able to look at a lot of their MASSIVE selection and get great insight on things. I went back again on 3/22 after having my eye on a particular 9MM. Jason was able to provide me great insight and opinion on the pistols that were in stock. I went back again later that night after getting approval from "The Boss". Nick was able to assist me with the purchase and everything went smooth. Unfortunately, Nick is a Steelers fan, but he was still of great assistance! He also made my wife comfortable with his great explanations on the revolvers she had questions about. Overall, I would recommend this store to all my friends and family due to the great service we all received while there! When it came to the time of me picking up the gun, I decided to wear my Bengals shirt to give Nick a hard time, but unfortunately he wasn't there. I'll definitely be back to use the range.

Yeah the range is nice, but at the cost of the employees. They are in a rush to get you out, and don't care what you want. I've been in the army 5 years and some guy trying to school me in how I "don't know" what I want? Get out of here.

The guys that work here (Except one that was a Marine) don't know what they're talking about.... They also look down at you thinking they are better. Will NEVER EVER go here again. I regret buying ammo from them.

Took my wife to the range for her to practice with her new guns. Andrew Delgato went above and beyond at the range. He helped me sight in my lasers on M&P 2.0 , when a gun jammed, he helped clear it and oiled it for me. He help my wife rent a .22 Ruger that she loves, and I am going back to buy her it for our anniversary. Very honest, knows his products and great customer service. I will continue to drive the extra 30 minutes to use their range and purchase guns from an amazing staff! Thanks Andrew!!

My brother and I have been here to use the range twice. Both times we have had a pleasant experience. The staff is courteous and helpful.

They do have restrictions on ammo that you can use in the range, but so what? Buy the brands they allow and deal with it.

They have a huge selections of guns, ammunition and accessories and many other items for survival and such.

Mega-Waste of Time! Ha-ha, I started laughing when I read the many bad reviews. So many people had the same bad experiences that I encounter. Poor customer services and disrespectful (poor) management... this store may have lots of guns but I would stay away and save yourself the aggravation. I can't speak to the service behind the counter because the manager had such a napoleon complex that I didn't stick around to find out. The shame of it is, with all these bad reviews the gun store seems to be doing just fine treating people poorly I hope the ownership understands they could make even more money if they treated customers with some dignity and respect...

I have a love/hate relationship with Megasports. First, I'll start with the hate. I hate that you have to use their targets on the range, I hate that you have to purchase their ammo if you rent their guns (brought an unopened box/same brand they had), and I hate that I had to show the range personnel that I knew how to properly hold a pistol. The guy was younger than me, and I'm a 12 yr. military vet with law enforcement experience. There's a 50/50 chance that you'll have a pleasant shopping experience or a bad one. It depends on the day, time, and personnel in the store. On a good day, you'll have a good time with someone who is knowledgeable, willing to help, and has overall great customer service skills with a personality to match. On a bad day, it'll be some jerk or jerks that will ignore you, has an ego that surprisingly fits in the store, or they'll BS you - especially if you ask about Glock's Blue Label program. If you're lucky to stop in on a good day, then you'll have a good time with plenty to choose from. Some of the sales can't be beat. However, if you stop by on a bad day, you'll remember it, and more than likely stop going or stay away for a while.

Largest selection around, hands down. I've yet to purchase a firearm here because of the reviews they have, and the experiences I've had at the range. They make you leave your stuff outside of the range in these cubbies, and every time I've asked a question I seem to get an aggressive snooty answer.
I've encountered some nice people, but some of the people are not very personable. The range is nice but I'll drive a little farther to the range in Bolingbrook for the friendly people. Also, they pretty much force you to use only their targets, bogus.

Staff is rude and they walk around like gods and are not well informed. Only had a few ok experiences out of several bad ones. I will never go there ever again. Really miss the old Megasports when they were small.

Very large selection but crazy prices on guns and ammo. Some prices are higher than full retail. I have no idea what they are thinking with their pricing. They would sell a ton of guns if they were competitive.

""PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY"" I was just in mega sports this weekend and I was helped by the most unfriendly and rudest employee. I have purchased 2 hand guns and a long rifle. Two out of the 3 times I have made a purchase I was helped by the most unfriendly and rudest employee. They make you feel like you are dumbed and stupid. This last time I was in there I was asking questions about a brand new gun that was released by kimber and the guy was turned side ways looking another way answering my questions. Customer service is horrible so you better be prepared for what you are buying so you don't have to ask questions. I have never experienced anything like it... I will never step foot in that place ever!!!.... if you want exelent customer service and friendly atmosphere go to gander mountain just down the road. They will answer your questions no matter how dumbed or stupid your questions are they make you feel comfortable. Even if they don't have it in stock I'll rather have them order it then to go back to mega sports.... I don't know if the managers are just plain stupid or they just don't care!! They got one star because I had no choice it's the only way I could post my review

First, they have everything.

First, they have everything.
Second, if one of the sales associates don't know something they will find someone who does.
Third, all of the associates I have dealt have the patience of a saint and answer all questions asked.

Did I say they have everything?

I will go there without question if there is something I need.

Thank You for stocking everything and then some!

** DO NOT WASTE TIME GOING TO THIS LOCATION ** If I could place lower stars on this place I would - They are a disgusting place. If you ask questions, they feel you lack experience immediately - and won't sell you anything. There is man named Jeremy, who is on a power trip, he will come out and disrespect you in front of the whole entire store. STAY AWAY!!!

After reading some of the reviews on this place I was less than enthusiastic about having to come here as a first time buyer to get the handgun I was looking for. I was pleasantly surprised (and relieved) by how great my experience was. Yes, they're strict. Yes, I had to wait in line to speak with a sales associate to purchase and pick up my gun. Yes, I had to present my FOID 3 times during each of my visits. But not one staff member was rude or impatient or arrogant. Eric had an answer for all of my questions and I never detected even a hint of a bad attitude from him. He was also training a new staff member that day so I was even more impressed with his patience. I returned 1 week later to pick up my gun without incident. The gentleman that helped me that night was also extremely patient and super friendly. And as if all of that wasn't good enough, you seriously can't get a better price on ammo anywhere in the area.

Knowledgeable staff that are very laid back and easy to talk too. I came in to purchase my first firearm and there was no up selling or shenanigans. In fact, per the advice of the salesmen I spent less money than I was planning to get what I wanted! Will definitely come back in the future.

I recently purchased a firearm there because of their extensive selection and inventory. Despite being fully aware that on average their prices are 10 to 15% higher than their local competition. Price is not the issue but the way they treat people is. Their customer service has always been subpar and erratic at best. I am sure there some good people there but every time I enter Mega Sports I leave a little less happy than I came in. Last time was definitely the final time I ever step foot in that place.
I will not dictate their standard operating procedures to them but they are ridiculous at best. Having purchased at many other retailers in the past relatively Mega Sports was a MEGA pain in the @$$.
I just don t know how the people at Mega Sports can have such contempt for their customers. I am sorry; did I inconvenience you by purchasing something at your store? Too make matters worse they also insult the intelligence of their customers by either intentionally ripping them off or by shear incompetence. Just stay away from this place if you value your state of mind and don t particularly enjoy being disrespected.
I really hope they change their tune otherwise they will lose all their customers eventually stay like they did me.

I just went into Megasports to look at several specific handguns. My Sales guy, Erik, listened to me describe what I liked or disliked about the guns I selected. He made a suggestion to look at a gun I did not have on my list that was in the same price range as the other guns. He even brought up their current sale in the store. After going through the gun, I ended up purchasing it. Met my criteria exactly. Erik couldn't have been any more professional, helpful and truly listened to what I wanted, before making a suggestion. Despite the store being busy, he gave me all his time that I needed to make the purchase. Even helped out with ammo & accessories as well. Looking forward to using my Ruger LCP for many years. 2nd gun purchase there, and I'll come back because of Erik.

I went to Mega Sport to purchase my first gun. I was excited until I got inside the store. Poor customer service, took 30 minutes to acknowledge me, not even greeting me or saying will be right with you. Nothing. I've worked retail 10 years. This was horrible. Then they finally let me see a gun, I told them I'll take it and they refuse my purchase for no reason. I had FOID card and license. Horrible place. I had been hesitant about visiting mega Sports based on many of the reviews posted through Google. I am a relatively novice shooter, and I have been searching my way through many of our local gun stores and ranges in the hopes of finding a facility I am comfortable bringing my wife to (as she is at best a reluctant shooter.)

Overall my experience was excellent. I was greeted politely, when they asked for my FOID. In other reviews, that policy and the no cellphones policy have excited a great deal of comment. While the employee who checked by ID was in no was obsequious, nor was he offensive. This is clearly a policy meant to prevent straw buying, and it is a sensible and responsible precaution. Is it always convenient? Certainly not. But when buying and using deadly weapons is the issue, convenience should be a secondary consideration.

Inside the store as I browsed, the staff made itself available through proximity and occasional offers to help, but were not intrusive. At the rental/range counter, the man who helped me was responsive and efficient. As it was my first time there, I did have to listen to a safety spiel. I gather that others might find that condescending and offensive, but it was an entirely reasonable and responsible step to take.
The range was clean, well lit, well ventilated and pleasant.

The only cons were the prices...for rentals, it was in line with previous experiences, but the range fee was about 80% more than I've paid for in the past...then again, I was paying for a range with privacy, automated target mounts, lights and fresh air, so I suppose I was getting what I paid for.

I will certainly be back, with my wife in tow.

A final comment: the more responsibility businesses and their customers take on in assuring that purchased firearms are not illegally resold or transferred, and in that they are used safely, the less regulations they will be subjected to in order force them to do what they should have done voluntarily. I applaud Mega Sports for being proactive and responsible.

The reviews here are accurate. While the selection is fabulous, rather than use that selection to sell guns they d rather display their arrogance and total lack of customer service to discourage sales. The owner must be fabulously wealthy as the predominant attitude displayed is you need us, we don t need you . As I walked by the Lone Ranger Range (at these prices you may as well use silver bullets) I overheard their employee announce she can t come in to a customer. When asked why, the customer was told she s not 21 . She was, but had to produce ID s. There s no such law so the only reason for the hassle was to let the customer know that it s a privilege to use their range. If it were for liability reasons she would have been asked politely and given an explanation.

After waiting for almost an hour to be waited on (weekday, middle of the day) I was told I couldn t compare the two guns I was interested in side by side as only one gun was allowed out of the case at a time. If this place invested 10% of the effort they invest in the rules in customer service they d sell a lot more guns.

While I was there I wanted to buy a couple of holsters. Once again, the selection is incredible. The problem is, there s no one to help you and no reference material to help you select the right one.

The bottom line on Mega Sports is that the owner is clearly impressed with himself and the selection he s offering. What he doesn t understand is, the selection, inventory and PRICES offered on the internet are MUCH better. Without customer service Mega Sports is nothing more than a real nice warehouse. For the record, I m a former customer that purchased 3 guns from them before their latest expansion. They ve never displayed that warm and fuzzy feeling, but they ve now stooped to a new low. Clearly they ve found a way to make arrogance and attitude pay off the place is huge and well stocked. If you want to pay more, be treated rudely, and wait in line for bad service, this is your store.

Apparently police identification is not enough at this place. My father was rudely turned away at the door -even after he showed his badge and police identification because he forgot his FOID card at home. They wouldn't even let him look around with me and I had my card. This place is ridiculous. Very rude and overpriced. They've just lost my family as customers.

Dont go there !!!! I keep getting talked to like they had something better to do. Lots of guns but the worst customer care i have ever had . " some of there gun fact" where myths and they where tellin people them . Like less then lethal rounds are agent the law to buy ,3.5 in barrel is far less accurate then 5in 9mm is not a good self-defense round , 308 are the same as 7.62 51 same with 5.56 and 223 . The list is long and i was only in there for 2 hr . I had my foid and cash and thay would not sell me a shotgun . I think it was because my cousin talked about God. not sure but that was the only thing talked about other then gun prices. Do not spend your money here !!!!!

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I have purchased 3 firearms over the years from them, and due to my experience today, they will be my LAST!
They teat you like they're doing you a favor by allowing them to wait on you. I was looking at the subcompacts for concealed carry and was treated like I knew nothing of what I was talking about...despite being a military vet with combat experience...
I went down the road to Gander Mountain and was treated well, and made a purchase of a sig 238.
i found a new gunstore, and it's in Joliet...gander Mountain near 30 and i-55...4 mins from megasports.

Let's put it this way.. I'd rather buy my forearms from California or New York than this place!.. I honestly think they paid people to give them 5 stars as a rating.. This place Sucks!.. Worst service ever!.. Honestly shop somewhere else and let this place shut down!.. PERIOD!..

Went there to spend my hard earned money and it was just standing there twiddling my thumbs .30 mins later nothing . They made eye contact with me and said nothing .Could of said sorry for the wait and will be with you shortly but nope nothing. Just had to walk out the place ,I'm sure they ll be ok with 1 less customer since they get pretty busy. I'm glad I did leave because I went to Point Blank where it was also busy and I was apologized to multiple times for the wait, ended up buying 2 guns.

I read the reviews posted and actually stayed away. Well one night I was in the area and stopped in and could not have been more surprised. The store itself is amazing inside. My questions were answered (got some ammo) and I left totally confused by the reviews. Week later I went back for the free range class and again it was a great experience. All I can say is don't not stop in because of what you may have read in the reviews! I'll be back there in a week or so for some range time.

The worst shopping experience in my life. Ten minutes in the store, was painted twice by some woman buying a shotgun and with her husband. Oh yeah, her finger was sitting on the trigger. The second time she did it, I grabbed the barrel and flung it up to the ceiling and the conter person gave me grief. Really, what an ***hole. Why i didnt walk out then I dont know. A few minutes later wanted to look at one of their Remington 700's and they refused to let me see it. No reason given, just a no. Have not and will never step foot in this store ever again. Bye bye ***holes.

When I first walked in my mouth dropped, and I started to shake. The amount, and variety of guns, and shooting accessories is mind boggling. The staff could not be nicer. I did not like that reloads were not allowed at their range, but it's a very small inconvenience, compared to the grand scheme. Of you can't find a gun at your local store, Mega Sports has it.

This establishment is very unprofessional and very nosey. I was looking to purchase and my wife was with me not purchasing or touching the guns and was asked for a food card why???? Also asked how am I paying like I can t afford it!! Also two sales person on me why???! Very rude and I think very white!!! Didn t look like they like Hispanics!!!!

For all of you out there that readily chastised th...

For all of you out there that readily chastised this store over the years for whatever reason, I can tell you this...this store has been around for a long time, and for a long time they were constantly in the cross-hairs of the former Daley Administration as well as the current Emanuel Administration. These facts tied to the fact that Daley and Emanuel had/have huge influence in Springfield and their proximity to Chicago made for a very unique situation for this store and it s owners.
For years they were the only store in close proximity to the City of Chicago unless you were willing to cross the border and go into Indiana, thus they were very closely scrutinized.
As a result of this they had to walk a very fine line which is why their policies are stricter than other stores in more distant suburbs of Chicago.
Here are some true facts about Megasports:
1. You will not find a larger collection of more knowledgeable staff at any Chicagoland suburban gun store. This includes your Cabela s and Bass Pro locations.
2. Their inventory is unrivaled.
3. Their prices are very very reasonable when it comes to firearms and accessories, but you can t expect them to compete with Wallyworld when it comes to ammo prices- just simple economics.
4. I feel safer in their range than any other as their range masters are constantly making sure that it stays that way- safe. If you don t agree with me on this point then please watch a few ...what not to do/say in a gun store, or ...how to not be an idiot at a range/gun store... on YouTube- there are plenty to view and you will then be better prepared to patronize them or any other store.
5. If you do not have a FOID card you CAN shoot there if you are accompanied by someone who has a valid FOID and you share a lane with the FOID holder. That being said a significant percentage of non-FOID holders are a potential liability to themselves as well as those around them when it comes to time spent in the range. It is as much of a responsibility of the FOID holder to police those non-FOID holders as it is of the range masters BEFORE you even enter the range.
6. They have a phone number...call it if you are not clear on their store/range policies. They welcome questions and will happily answer them for you over the phone.
7. Because of their large inventory and knowledge they have a large volume of customers. Don t go in there on a Sat/Sun afternoon and expect them to drop everything they are doing for you when they are already helping someone else.
I am sure there are more things I could think of but this review is already bordering on being too long.
Finally, I have purchased firearms from them as well as from other stores, but this will no longer be the case going forward. Going forward I will purchase ALL of my firearms from Megasports exclusively.

Went in on May 10 to to use therange. Never been there before and I was nervous because of all the bad reviews but this was closer closer to my house so I decided to go anyway. I called first and the man on the the phone was very nice. Then when I got there the man that greeted me was very nice and pointed me in the right direction. The guy attending the range was also very nice. Was walking into the range without my eyes and ears on (whoops) and he politely reminded me to put them on.

Hm. So far so good.

Range was ok, nothing special, I've seen better but I've definitely seen worse. Tracks worked, lighting was fine, and they consistently cleaned the casings off the floor. All you really need. Then after shooting I decided to browse their inventory. I waited 5-10 minutes for help because all the salespeople were busy, not something to complain about. The guy that helped me was very nice, answered all questions, was very professional. Only complaint is I asked to see a G19 and he handed me a G23. No biggie it happens.

So what gives? The only thing I can take from these bad reviews is maybe they themselves were being rude to staff. Maybe they weren't being safe. Someone here accused them of racism ... nope, I'm a minority and they were more than willing to help me out. Definiely recommend MegaSports.
