You have to go to the airport at least 2 hours before your flight, otherwise you probably lost your flight. The stuff there is very slow. For sure you have to make check in before you arrive to the airport.

The newly built Terminal 2 is amazing! It s super clean, perfectly organised and customer-friendly. If you have enough time go to the terrace for a nice view of the airport and enjoy a draft beer there. One negative aspect are the low cost carrier gates A 11-19 with their gates. Long waiting times in a hanger with only a few seats and no toilets are definitely not customer-friendly.

Very frequently, huge queues for checking in+bag drop (1 hour waiting time for me!). Very few check-in desks that would only be adequate for a small regional airport - certainly not an international one of a country's capital city. Small cramped space with big queues for security checks. Few toilets. At hottest time of year & during the heat wave of August 2018, weak air-conditioning. Frequent delays. Few seating areas with lots of torn leather seats. NO AIRLINE CONNECTION OFFICES in gate area (transit). Consider yourself very lucky if you don't encounter problems. Easily wins the award of the worst airport I've ever seen (& I'm air-travelling many times per month for my work).

The worst experience ever!!!! The people at the Wizz Air counter were the worst we have ever after traveling all over the world! More specifically the counter A13 to Barcelona were very rude, aggressive and did not want to tell us their names after insisting and after threatening us and telling us that we get in the plane if they want to!! Unbelievable and completely unacceptable!

Toilets are disgusting.

Toilets are disgusting.
The boarding gate a19 is basically a 3rd world warehouse/hangar (outside of the main building) without toilets or places to sit. Disgraceful.

The airport is the largest in Hungary. It is less than 50 minutes drive from the center of Budapest. Departures and arrivals take place at the modern Terminal 2. The airport is heavily frequented. It is recommended to check in your luggage more than 90 minutes before departure and to pass the security area. The departure hall is distributed on two levels. Many dining options cater for their guests. In the departure hall you also have the opportunity to use four lounges. Seating options are more than adequate. There are many charging stations for mobile phones and laptops. I recommend the ones in the upper level. There you also have the opportunity to work while sitting. If you travel with a low-cost airline, you may be a little surprised. The departure hall looks like a warehouse with aisles.

I've never seen a queue like this to go through the security. I asked one simple info and one of the staff didn't even stop to reply. The info about the buses a ridiculous too. When I got here I was completely lost. Budapest deserves way more than this

The language skills of the staff are a disaster. If anything, English is at most straightforward and the service is generally poor. The food left a lot to be desired. Wanted to allow me yesterday at 18.00 h before departure a small snack, because it was said (of course in Hungarian), that the chef was at the food and I have to wait fifteen minutes. In the departure area, I ordered an espresso based on the staff's lavazzo imprint. I got a tiny paper cup, whose bottom was just covered with a brown liquid for as many as 500 Forinth.
Conclusion: prices up, service down; a phenomenon that unfortunately is not limited to the airport.

Very badly organised, inefficient airport. Bag-drop and check-in is the same queue most of the time. The employees seem to be working half-asleep. Cramped, overcrowded inefficient place. Next time rather add a taxi or train trip to Vienna and fly from there.

The place is also highly overpriced once you are through security screening (if there's any time left to have a bite or do a bit of shopping...).

Bag drop took 45 minutes. There's one position open for a fully booked flight (check-in & bag-drop together). The person working there was a trainee with two people looking over her shoulder. When they were told by number of passengers, how badly organised and inefficient they had the lip to answer back. When the passenger complaining left, they started to discuss among themselves in Hungarian, how people do not understand what they do, instead of trying to speed up. Security was more efficient but the boarding is on by the time we made it to the gate.
It was definitely not a positive airport experience and I will avoid departing from this airport. I would suggest the same to all who does not like airport stress caused by long queues and inefficiency.

Quite small but pretty well organised airport. Quick security checks and nice duty free shop (I d personally love to see more traditional Hungarian goods). Waiting in hangars is a very big disadvantage (very hot in summer and cold in winter).

The airport is modern and clean. Waiting times for security were quite short as there are many lines. The prices are pretty high considering it is Hungary, so you might get yourself something to eat from the Spar (Terminal B2, public area). Airside is actually pretty small with only a few shops and some restaurants and a food court (KFC, Burger King...). The Schengen gates of the LCC are in a new built arm of the terminal, which at the monent due to the construction is only avialable by some stairs outside. The low cost gates itself are well designed, perfect for the way those airlines work.

Twice I arrived at the airport and missed the flight for the first time and had to travel to Greece by train for two days. On Monday, I nearly lost my flight because the employees are bored working there. They do not want to serve me, the employees are irritable and worse I have met a private employee.

The worst airport I have ever visited. Low administrative efficiency and the staff here have no understanding of how the security check should be done. They discriminate Asian people. The facilities are bad and the infrastructure is terrible. Romania can do much better. Because of this airport, I lost all the good view on Budapest the city herself.

A real barn with a smell of full-fledged goose-cow! The Italians have a separate sector, the stall in fact, thrown there to die of cold as if they were condemned to break ice. I put a star because less is not possible otherwise it would have been a -7 like the cold made to take us, to make good offenders

Surrounding areas are full of weeds all the time. The airport should pay more attention for keeping the green areas cultivated. The surroundings of airports are usually the neatest everywhere in the world. Here it's nasty. Makes a terrible first impression.

The behavior of some of the staff at the security check is unacceptable.

Air conditioning is awful. Please do something about it because it is really uncomfortable with heavy packs.

Wrong signs (it's worse than no signs).

Wrong signs (it's worse than no signs).
No valleys to help prior checkin.
No water cooler.
Lots of false positive in security checks, which is very intense.
No toilet signs and too few toilet cabins for that airport.
Also many news articles indicate of lots of thief on checked in luggage.

If you can avoid departure via this airport - do so.

Given the construction site, on arrival I thought it was for what was a bit run down. Excellent baggage recovery, starting a little less. The upper floor is modern and full of shops, the wait in the hangar is disastrous. We looked like the lions entering the circus track, all in obligatory ways, in metal fences and then this biblical expectation, standing, we with two children, luckily a stroller! Only now reading I discovered that the hangar is for flights in Italy. Shameful. Too bad because I liked everything ...

Returning to London was better on the Budapest sid...

Returning to London was better on the Budapest side. Not great but better. There are no dedicated counters. They rotate and everything is posted on a big board. You won't know where to drop your luggage until 2 hours before your flight. Once the counter is designated, there is a huge line. Survive this to get to security. Without priority boarding the line is longer. And remember you now have less than two hours to get through security, pee, maybe eat, and go through customs. But you through customs until they tell you the gate. They don't tell you which gate until 39 minutes before your flight. As soon as the gate is posted you are in yet ANOTHER line to get your passport stamped. This must be to make you have a more pleasant day and feel appreciated as a customer.

The gate was B17. Super confusing as that gate is behind glass and behind gates B15 and B18. Confused? Me too and no one made any announcements. NONE. There isn't enough room as these gates for lines either so everyone is stuffed in a small space hoping they are at the right gate.

Did I mention earlier that you have to take stairs from the terminal down to the tarmac? No elevators anywhere. Primitive, backwards, the funny thing I thought this was bad until we got down to the tarmac and had to take a bus. Attila the Hun was our driver. First he decides to push people towards the middle to stuff more of us in while making grunting noises. Then he drives us around like we are on a roller coaster at Kiddyland. Mind you most of us are standing including kids and old people. Once we get to the plane, he won't open the doors or windows. When I thought I would just about pass out from a lack of oxygen he finally opens the door. Not one person said a word. I think we were all afraid Attila would suffocate us for protesting. Thankfully we did make it to the plane and we are in the air as I write this.

Ryan air planes- Boeing 737-800. No wifi, no television, no seat pockets, no charging ports. It's BASIC. They do have great potato chips in the box and a lottery. But they don't tell you how you will find out whether or not you win. I'm not sticking around to find out.

It is a very small airport. The security queues are very long and in the check-in area it is rare to be able to sit in a place other than the ground. Once you access the international area, things improve a little, but you will not spend a minimally entertaining day either: few shops and few bathrooms and little of everything in general. At the top there are tables with plugs (few and not all work), a play area for children and a restaurant area for different pockets ... That makes it more bearable. The main reason for the 2 stars is that some boarding gates are in a kind of ships that are not equipped for passengers: without toilets, heating or chairs. A horror in winter. I hope they fix that, although it gives me that it will not be so.

On September 18, my cousin started bringing me to Canada because I invited him and sent him 2 tickets. Flight No: 1911 He was at the airport almost 3 hours early to pick up the boarding card but a vile eye whore asked why he wanted to go to Canada ... who he knows what he knows etc. He asked a lot of people and was confused by his sister cousin and couple. There are some filthy people. I started a lawsuit at the Toronto-I Air Canada office and sent crankcase claims and news stories. I will look for this eye whore in Budapest in person and I will take action to kick him out, but I will sue and I will sue. My cousins loved my grandchildren at Toronto Airport with great love. You will be very surprised what will happen to him because I will not leave that much. I will look for your best friend and I will materially annoy him. I won't let you continue to put on a ton of holidays. I think it will remember ram but very much !!!!!

Just sharing for those want to take a bus to town, you can take 100E. Find your way to the arrival hall and to the taxi line. Behind it you will see a ticket machine, purchase tour ticket and move along to the 100E bus stop sign. There will be a person to instruct where to wait in line. Good luck! And I didnt explore the airport, but it seems small and not really advanced or modern design. Normal airport with the usual shops like starbucks and fast food.

The airport looks modern at first glance. Only after a while it turns out that everything is really falling apart. There are only a few toilets (and very dirty ones) with queues for a dozen people. Business Lounge is a farce, all you can eat are instant soups or chips. The coffee is not potable.

Airport not very big. There was no long queue for passport review at the entrance. Exiting Budapest, too, was agile with no delays.
The duty-free portion and restaurants look new and beautiful
Note that passport review only comes after the duty free.
Inform the gate of the flight an hour just before takeoff
There is very easy access from Budapest to and via the 100e bus line. Really no taxi is needed for those in the center

Not bad. It has power outlets on the 2nd floor which you can use freely. But not many sofa or bench to get some rest. And the fast pass route for the passport control is for money. It's so absurd.
Not bad airport. There is everything, but it is a little uncomfortable. There is a rapid entry and exit passage, but this is charged. If you have a lot of guests, you can use this to get there quickly, but this is the first airport in the world.

Nightmare to get through at peak times of the day....

Nightmare to get through at peak times of the day. The security queues can stretch back right to the check in desks!
I also travel through Budapest airport relatively often since I live in the city and go back to the UK to visit family. On my last trip 3 days ago, my suitcase was opened after being checked in and completely wrecked. Obviously security had cut it open to check inside. This is the third time this has been done this year. Apart from clothes, toiletries, books, papers etc. there is never anything more, and I have now to scrap my suitcase, which was not cheap. It's a disgrace and I honestly do not trust the staff there. I was told not to lock it next time, most probably to make it easier for them to route around in. They do not call you back over the tannoy to security etc. to open it, and they leave no note as to why they have been through your suitcase. I travel all over the place, and this has never happened anywhere apart from Budapest airport, and 3 times this year alone!! I was told on my arrival in Gatwick that they are probably looking for cigarettes and alcohol as people bring such things back from Hungary, but surely this should be seen when the case passes through the scanners, AND there is never any alchohol or cigarettes in there. I find this totally innpropriate and have made official complaints to the airline and the airport, with no responses as yet.

Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, formerly known as Budapest Ferihegy International Airport (IATA: BUD, ICAO: LHBP) is the largest and best known of Hungary's five international airports. It is located about 16 km southeast of the center of Budapest (on the border of Pest county). It was renamed in 2011 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of composer Ferenc Liszt.

We had just entered the airport before the staff approached. Ask kindly where we are going. Check in was not open yet, but the person returned and told us when and where to check in. Fast through security controls. A super good experience Friendly staff, they have an overview and are very interested in helping.

Was shocked when returned from vacation. Dirty toilets, extremely slow luggage handling (had to wait for 45 minutes to see the first luggage of the first plane today).

One positive experience was the fast, polite passport control.
