Cowan's Restaurant Review

Known for pies and breakfast. They have daily specials, awesome pies with whipped cream a mile high, and my favorite part... You can pick 4 appetizers as a meal (I got all potatoes, haha)! Or maybe it was 4 sides... Anyway, this charming restaurant in Downtown Washington was very pleasant, the staff was very kind, and I think it was worth the cost. I went with my mother for breakfast lunch, and while she got coffee and I got water, neither drink was neglected when it came to refills. A very relaxed family atmosphere. Would be great for a breakfast date with someone new, or someone ongoing. Like I said, it's charming. Would like to return soon to experience their lunch and dinner options.

Food was pretty good. Our only major complaint is that we could not get refills on our water to eat our food nobody would return to refill them or give us a our bill or boxes. they were more concerned with the group of six that came in after us ordered after us, and wanted to just sit and be loud.

Good comfort food for sure, waitress was very busy, Soo, food was drop and run. But it was Sunday so lots of people doing what we were . Sunday breakfast out!;) Will eat there again

Great restaurant, opened in 1860. Great food, nice surroundings. Varied menu, with home made pies for dessert.

The toughest supposed to be ribeye steak I've ever had the corned beef was thick on a Reuben sandwich not torn apart won't be back

Comfortable setting, nice rustic decor. Perfect for a family meal. Staff is very nice but service was very slow, and restaurant was not busy. Food was pretty good. Unfortunately we were not able to try their famous pies due to having to catch a train and our meal took too long to come out. Would definitely visit again, though, when we have more time.

Nice little hometown restaurant. Food was very good and the service was excellent. They have a game room for the kids so if you want to have a quieter meal you may want to sit in the first dining area.

Stopped in for the first time last weekend. Very good cheeseburger. Great service and a nice location in old Washington. Plan to go back and try breakfast.

Good, homey food. Great sweet potato fries and fried okra. Burger could use seasoning, but toppings were all fresh and good.
Biscuits looked fresh and amazing. Pancakes were large and looked good.
"Fried cheese curds" looked more like cheese cubes, but can you really go weonf with fried cheese?!

Service is to slow. Dont come to refil drinks portions to price are bad. Food was cold when we got it.

I loved the fried cheesecurds and the chocolate peanut butter pie. Employees were all very friendly. It's December so they were playing holiday music. The Chipmunk's song was pretty jarring and annoying but besides that our visit was good. I would go back.

Merengue is what they're selling-not pie...

The merengue is best ever though, if they could just perfect the filling

BEST breakfast place in Washington, MO!! The coldest and real chocolate milk served in a frosted mug!!! You shouldn't leave hungry!

I enjoyed having lunch with my two favorite men, my oldest grandchild Nasha and Mr. Charlie Miller, it was nice to get out after the cold brutal weather.

We were one of 3 tables and it took over 45 minutes to receive our food. Mine was made incorrectly. I had to go to the counter to get silverware for my family.

Usually a long long long wait but that's because it's amazing. Breakfast and dessert out of this world. It's like going to Grandmas!

Decent quality food for equally good price. Their signature pies are certainly worth the trip. Fairly busy place, so anticipate a wait for the bathroom.

We stopped here for breakfast on our way through town. It was delicious! And everyone was friendly and the place was very clean. We will stop again next time we visit Washington!

We went for lunch today. I had the Reuben and homemade chips. Both were awful. The corned beef was tough and fatty and the chips lacked any salt and were hard. My lucky husband had the cod sandwich which was overcooked. Have not been there in awhile and don't forsee a return. Too bad. This used to be a good place to eat.
