Love love love this place so much!!!! I just recently had my bridal shower here and it's safe to say this place is the perfect spot for any and every gathering. The staff (reception, set up, and servers) was so helpful and diligent, the grounds are stunning, the building itself is quaint and quintessential New England, and the food served was delicious. Highly recommend for rehearsal dinners, bridal showers, parties, and weddings. There is honestly no place like it!

Had our 48th wedding anniversary dinner here and everything was fantastic. From the appetizers to the desserts was excellent. Can't remember the waitress name but she was excellent also. Happy 300th anniversary to you and many more!!

Longfellow's wayside Inn was a great little weekend getaway. The grounds and room and the corps were amazing and the front desk help was extremely helpful. Unfortunately the dinner and the breakfast was not what I had anticipated or heard and was extremely dissatisfied with both. At least during the dinner they fixed what was not correct with our orders but could not fix the short staffed breakfast and the extremely long wait and continuous fixes during the breakfast although I will say that the Johnny cakes at the end made it way more bearable and word delicious. I would definitely be willing to give this location a second chance

Can't get enough of the New England style comfort food. I had lunch seasonal favorite: lobster slider, cup of chowder and fruit cup instead of chips. Good service, historical building and decor.

Too dark, couldn't even see the menu. Service was slow and the food was fair. This was a invitation event, would not go here as my choice. Sure there is some history here. This is a place that is probably more nostalgic with the older crowd than it is with the foodie folks. This was probably a great inn and place to get a bite to eat in the 1700's but not today.

One of the oldest continuous operating bar. I love the Wayside Inn Bar. So quaint. I really enjoy the roaring fire in the winter. A glass of wine, appetizers and a cheese tray before dinner or as an afternoon get together with friends. Also a great place to go for an after dinner drink.
Dave, the bartender is a really great guy. Overall a really lovely experience.

Consistently excellent food at very reasonable prices.
It's a museum, a most charming historic 18th century inn and quality restaurant all rolled into one.
Doesn't hurt that it's a national landmark set on a beautiful world heritage site with many period buildings and dripping with American history to explore.

You cannot beat the ambiance of the inn. My wife and I have tried several dishes. Always a delight. My favorite dish is the breast of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans and cranberry sauce!

After lunch, or before dinner a walk of the grounds cannot be beat.

Why do the same old boring dinner. A small or large business dinner sure to be hit with this cozy and historic restaurant. Good food with great conversation. Able to handle large groups. Call ahead and reserve one of the historic rooms.

Fantastic food, great service, out away from everything which to me is perfect. If you want a history rich quaint place to stay the night and have a wonderful dinner, this is the place for you

300 years and running! Have been here before to visit the Grist Mill and the Schoolhouse and have had drinks in the bar but ate in the restaurant the night before Thanksgiving and had a great experience. The food and service were wonderful and the server suggested a really great English ale which was just fantastic. The rooms for dining with larger groups (10-20) are really neat - fireplaces, low ceilings and wide planked wood floors. Such a great place. Make sure you go during the day and take a tour.

Abused Food in a Truly Historic Setting

Abused Food in a Truly Historic Setting

We knew what we were in for when the waitress finally put a dish of Pepperidge Farm crackers and cheddar cheese spread on the table to get us started on our worst meal of 2018.

The Wayside Inn is 302 years old. The dining room looks all original, though the uncomfortable chairs are probably only about 70 years old. The place has a real colonial feel on the old Boston Post Road in Sudbury. When we walked in, the room was packed with old, wealthy white people. The food is clearly tailored for the bland, disinterested palate.

We started with lobster bisque and Cesar salads. The soup lacked salt and had no lobster flavor. The salads featured shaved strips of flavorless parmesan that closely resembled candle wax. No cheese tang at all. The dressing was out of a bottle, without anchovies, of course. And of course, no fresh ground pepper (note: pepper was very expensive in 1716, maybe they were sticking with the theme).

For entrees, we had an overdone, tough prime rib; a seafood sampler which consisted of four rubbery shrimp and three flavorless scallops; and dry, overcooked goose which was tough and stringy. Accompaniments were Delmonico potatoes with not enough cheese and some fresh green beans that had been boiled well past their death. These all started out as fine ingredients: prime beef, goose, shrimp and scallops from the nearby ocean, fresh green beans. But they were cooked to death with no salt or any attempt to capture or impart flavor. What a waste of food and energy!

The Inn's signature dessert, baked Indian (sic) pudding was sweet, molasses-ey and good, although it took two tries: the server offered to top it with ice cream or whipped cream. We asked for whipped, got ice and she had to redo. Service was pretty bad all around. An untrained 20 year old was in charge of neglecting our table, which she did quite thoroughly. She asked if we "were still working on that" which for once was a legitimate question: it was very laborious to get enough nourishment into our bodies from the dead stuff on our plate.

We left the place thoroughly disappointed at our last dinner out of 2018.

Just attended a wedding here and I was very impressed with not only the food and amazing service, but the overall charm and beauty that this old inn has to offer. A perfect place for a wedding or just a dinner out. I cant wait to come back and enjoy the restaurant / ambiance.

Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts...

Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury, Massachusetts was well over a century old when Longfellow visited it and was inspired to write his Tales. Today the dining, history, and character of the Inn combine to make for an enjoyable experience. Especially worthwhile is an ale in the rustic bar which is reminiscent of older rural pubs in England.

While not large, the menu has a good variety of traditional New England fare mixed in with some more updated options. The appetizers and entrees were all excellent, particularly the clam chowder and turkey dinner. The drink selection could have been larger but was hardly disappointing. Service was also great, attentive and prompt. Decor in the dining rooms was inconsistent. The larger room looks like a recent addition and lacks the colonial charm of the rest of the inn, but the smaller ones feel very much in place with their large floorboards and fireplaces.

This is a lovely setting which is an inn and restaurant. The food is mostly traditional American food. It is well prepared and served by very friendly, helpful staff. A wonderful place to go with family or friends.

Great setting. Incredibly historic. Took our friends from London here. Dark, colonial renovated amazing home that's museum quality. The waitress was first rate but the food......geeshh. Overcooked, tough pot roast that was over covered in this pasty, dark brown sauce they called gravy, oh so boring green beans, a simple baked potato. I couldn't eat the pot roast...it tasted like dog food to me. Thank goodness for the rolls and indian pudding. That were actually good...but not very good!

Really, just down-right awful food. Almost sent it back. Go someplace else.

Never get tired of this lovely historic inn. We've been coming back every year to celebrate our anniversary - from 25th to 41st. The winter getaway package is such a deal. The restaurant never disappoints and the breakfast is also delish. So fun to wander the grounds down to the Grist Mill and Martha Mary Chapel.
