I think this place is starting to go down-hill

I've been going here for a few years now with with good anticipation of a quality of establishment fitting to what the reputation of what this relaxing and therapeutic spa should be. In the past I was always very pleased with the facility. The sauna's, hot-tubs, cold pools and steam rooms were well maintained and functioning well ... the Hot was Hot and the cold was cold etc. This time however, none of that was even close to where it needed to be. The sauna's were warm, not even close to hot, the steam (both steam rooms were a sorry excuse for a steam. I think the steam cycled on every 45 minutes that was absolutely terrible. I recall a time when you would cycle through the various stages to get a wonderful experience and now I suspect cost cutting measures are in effect to maximize profit. I brought up the Heat/issues with the staff and they went to verify that everything was normal. If that's normal then I'm no-longer intending on returning. I'm very disappointed as once upon a time the experience was absolutely fantastic. Today, the grounds look amazing but that's it. As a paying customer, I was going primarily for the Hot/cold experience not just to go laze around in an nice environment. The staff remain very professional and kind with good service in my opinion however, I think they need to seriously address the actual performance of the Temperatures for each of the units. The steam, saunas, hot tubs should be hot enough where you feel you need to cycle out within 15 minutes in my opinion. My last experience was in early September 2018. Hopefully this was an anomaly ... I sincerely hope so as I would like to return.

I would be interested to hear other's reviews in regards to the facility temperature performance.

Would be super relaxing and intimate if people would follow the no cellphone rule. But everyone is taking pictures and videos and such and it is not relaxing to constantly wonder if you gonna end up in a shot without wanting to. Also lots of people are talking loudly in the "silence" zones. And when you talk to the employees about people not following the rules they look at you like your a snitch and do nothing. Never going back. Not gonna pay good money for them to not fillow their rules. (Except the one about drinks from the outside. They will make you pay for that. What a bunch if hypocritea)

Also it is NOT relaxing when it is busy. I dontd find it calming and relaxing at all when there is so many people that you are always brushing against other people's legs and such. Not a great experience.

3 stars because of the service, otherwise the thermal spa itself is lovely! Plan to spend at least 6 hours there to fully enjoy it and get your money's worth!

Never once disappointed. What's not to love about this place? Service on point. Relaxing massages, amenities are well targeted.

Getting more and more expensive (from 80 to 100+now) but for what you get of extra service-well worth it.

Bring own bathtub, sandals and water bottle for outdoor spa. Bring cash to tip massotherapist.

Outstanding service, I loved the Kalla bath. My massage was # 1. My negative point is that the place was crowded with noisy people, often addicted to cell phones and snapchat, emptied their glass of wine in the baths .... when you pay $ 500 to go relax, it's not what I m 'waits! Otherwise apart from the nightclub atmosphere I would give a 5!

Heaven on Earth. This place is a true gem for any adult who needs to relax. For us it was a weekend getaway from the kids, so it made especially sweet. Pools, saunas, hot tubs, food, wine, and massages. What more could you need

If it's a first time coming here. Bring flip flops and bathrobes. However you can rent some if you have forgotten them.

Nordik is hands down the best outdoor nature spa. So relaxing and beautiful.

Love this place and definitely recommended for anyone and everyone once a season.

Anytime you have a problem with a service or a lost item, they are very accommodating, generous and friendly. Make sure you cancel (if you need to) 2 days ahead of time. They get pretty annoyed. I would heed to that one little rule from experience.

This place is always expanding too and you wonder when they get it done. Beautiful all year round and I'm always planning my next trip.

I highly recommend you get the Vivifying Treatment from Caroline. She is friendly and fantastic.

I wish there were refreshments brought out to us at the baths but I understand that could get messy. A girl can dream.

Don't go on a weekend if you actually planned on relaxing and unwinding. Food is overpriced but hey it's a spa so it's kinda expected. Staff was friendly.

I have been going for years and the customer service is always top notch. I've always found it clean and relaxing. But I don't go during the day Saturdays and Sundays. I've heard it's way too busy. If you go in the winter, at night, it's magical. Lying on your back in the infinity pool, when the stars are out and mist is swirling around......honestly, it's perfection. There are many things to love and it is truly relaxing.

Reading some of the complaints, I can't help but thing there are some very picky people out there. It's a public space, meant for relaxing. Some people don't like to be shushed, but when I'm in the quiet areas I hate it when people are talking. I go there to relax. When I feel like talking and being social, I go to the social areas. Pretty simple.

Experience was great as usual. COVID health measures were adequate, although signage was a bit confusing at times. Because reservations are required for the thermal experience, we didn't find the place too busy. Just the relaxing we needed!

Excellent experience today though disappointed with the supplied towel (worn and ready for the rag pile in my opinion) and the almost no pressure in the shower.

The whole complex is great, with a variety of hot pools, saunas, spas, open fire heated reading rooms, even a Mongolian style yurt! And there is a cafe, restaurant and bars.

I've been going to Nordik - Spa Nature for years now. I go several times a year. If you read the negative reviews, many of them relate to customer service issues from about a year or two ago. So here is what I think.

Back in the day, when Nordik - Spa Nature was small, they didn't have customer service issues because they didn't have the volume they do now. Then they went through a rapid expansion, when they opened their new section. During that time, they did have rough customer service, but have since addressed a lot of the issues they previously had.

For example; one reviewer from 2 years ago states that they had to pay $2 for a dry towel. I switch out my towel all the time and am never charged.

Others state bad customer service with young, apathetic staff. I go several times a year and haven't encountered a problem yet...

Others say that the cost of the food in the restaurants are too high. I eat at the restaurant every time I go. The price is exactly the same as if I went to a sit down restaurant somewhere else. My wife and I went in December 2013 for 8 hours, ate twice. The first time our bill was $26 after tax and tip, the second time it was $35 after tax and tip. Not unexpected for what it is...

Another negative review states that they had to drive around for an hour for parking. When we went in December 2013, they had valet parking available for $10. Seems that would solve the problem, and the cost isn't that high.

My only complaint is that sometimes it is busy which detracts from the experience, but it seems they are working out strategies to deal with that. For example, last time we went they made us wait half an hour to enter the spa. While we were waiting, we had seating and free coffee to keep us occupied. Honestly, pretty good value for money considering a movie with some popcorn for two is almost $40 these days. I'm planning on going at least four other times this year.

No complaints here. Beautiful view, plenty of options to relax and fantastic messages.

Me and my wife make it out at least once a year for some us time and couldn't be happier with our experience.

One tiny complaint would be that I'm a picky eater and wished they had burgers, poutines or something of the sort.

Giving this beautiful spa 3 stars instead of the 4 or 5 it should get because of two issues during my most recent trip in June:

1) I saw one guy with a phone (taking photos), and another - elsewhere in the spa - with a laptop. In a bathing suit, doing work??? Not the thing to allow if you want to promote relaxation.

2) service at the restaurant was very slow and they got one of the orders wrong. Would not have been an issue if the weather had been warmer, but as it was my party (clad only in bathing suits and towels) was uncomfortably cold by the end of the meal.

Nordik is gorgeous and usually a fantastic experience. I'll definitely be back, but I'm hoping not to see any phones, tablets, or laptops next time!

Very relaxing. Staff is super nice. Definitely worth going during the week instead of the weekend to avoid crowds.

Spa experience itself was nice. Some of the staff, not so much.

An experience that is now an annual winter tradition for me.

It could be five star if staff in restaurant act more friendly. The designis perfect and you can spend whole day and awesome night there. Different areas and feelings all together created non stop enjoyable spot. Russian sauna and new pool with view of town are super good. You can finish a book here in silence area beside fire, water and amazing atmosphere. Also massage is great here. Fully recommended

Amazing with the Aufguss, saunas, hot baths, and salts. Well worth it and Foodie Wednesdays are fantastic.

The grounds are nice, the price is somewhat fair for acces to those nice grounds but he massages are not very good or atleast the two that I've had were.

My husband called them professional people petters because it felt like he was being pet rather then massaged.

On our recent visit this past Tuesday Jan 21st we had a few unfortunate experiences at the Nordik spa located in Chelsea.

As loyal long time customers we have noticed a dramatic drop in service and we would like to inform management of these issues. Based on the latest reviews on Google from the last month it doesn't seem like we were the only people that complained. Once we got to Nordik we were not told that one of the sauna's/baths was closed for construction. The customer representative said they were all working. Once we got inside and found out that it wasn't working we asked ourselves why did we get charged full price if we can't use the whole facility? Once we got to the kitchen beside the kalla treatment, we ordered a plate of vegetables and dipping sauce for 14$. The food was not the greatest quality. We had ordered this plate before and I can tell that it was not as fresh as other times. I also saw a small rat running below the seats and my wife was terrified of this. We did not mention it to the waiter because we did not want to alarm the other customers. We also noticed a couple of teens in the kalla treatment taking pictures of themselves. There was a couple of instances were we saw people with their phones taking pictures. I though there was a strict policy on no cell phones? The change rooms were not clean and there was dirty towels everywhere. Overall the experience was bad for $345.00. We expect more service from Nordik spa.

A day at this place will definitely be worth every penny. Great massage therapists and atmosphere. The dining experience and food was great as well. Would like to see the lineups and check in process to be a little quicker though.

1/2 Spaces of relaxation too cold to relax; lockers difficult to break. Fantastic and warm team.

Magical and relaxing experience. Husband grew up in Ottawa and makes sure we have a spa day at Nordik in Chelsea every time we're up there for Christmas. I like it when it's a snow day and we dip and relax in the thermal pools. The sauna that goes every hour is a must, too. Not for those who are not comfy with heat though. They have this small show in the sauna room and it gets full pretty quick so you have to arrive a little bit earlier to secure a spot.

Arrived at 10:30 to learn there was a 2 hour wait! The place was not sold out. It was just going to take 2 hours to admit the people that were already there. That's utterly disrespectful to their clients. They need to streamline check in and provide more cashiers. A weekday might be better but I would warn people to stay away on the weekend.

Amazing experience! Definitely recommended to anyone who needs a day to relax. Quite expensive drinks, but worth it. Amazing, unique saunas, many pools with different temperatures, and amazing service.

Finally used a gift certificate from Dec 2017 from my son (which was fully honoured) and spent the most glorious, restorative and wonderful day at this piece of heaven in Chelsea! Excellent service throughout from the moment we stepped in! Favourite time was being in the heated pool in the middle of a snow squall! Loved all the saunas, the food and the masseuse I had! Am definitely going to repeat this! Thank you Spa Nordik!

A piece of heaven on earth. This place is an exceptional Scandinavian style spa with quality amenities. I wouldn't waste my time on special services but just enjoy the baths at your leisure!

A real treat

Received a gift certificate for couples entry to thermal experience with wine and cheese platter as a wedding gift and had until March 2020 to use this before the certificate only became valid for monetary value. Emailed customer support and asked given the circumstances of covid 19 for an extension of the services and the woman Lesley I spoke to replied that normally they would only provide a 3 month extension but given that they were closed that I would not have that option! How does this make any sense!? An extension time should not continue and expire during a period that a business does not provide any services!?

I have dealt with many businesses that have modified their terms and conditions obviously to be fair and accommodating to their customers during these unprecedented times. Nordik is just not one of them.
Customer care is clearly very poor, leaves a very sour taste in my mouth not somewhere I would want to go or recommend to others.

I had a really relaxing time, definitely what I was looking for. Site is beautiful and there is something for everyone. The volume policy is not well enforced, and in effect each area is one volume level higher than promised (the silence area actually functions as the whisper area, people talk at full volume in the whisper area etc.) Also as I did not wear my watch and phones are prohibited it became a little difficult to keep track of time so that I could make it to my massage appointment. Overall a great experience though and I will definitely go again.

You can spend the whole day just relaxing through multiple saunas and hot water pools.

Plan a full day here for your 1st visit. No technology is allowed on premises except in main reception and locker room. Well worth the experience.

Very nice site despite the weekend of Thanksgiving and traffic. To see and see again.

Spent 4.5 hours there and it was fantastic. Everyone should try it.

Extraordinary place. Very clean and relaxing. Food was ok but the service was really good. It worth the travel to Ottawa. It s a must go place. Make sure youre going for a whole day experience.

Get there early it gets very crowded but other than that it's fantastic

The saunas were not hot. One hot tub was almost cool - we left it. And, I did not think the food was up to the standard of a pricey spa. My soup was luke warm.

Not 5 stars because of the price. BUT its for sure an amazing activity!!! At night, its magic.

Great place love it always 5 stars except..... The front desk is soooooooo slow. I don't know if it is your system, or you guys try to be slow on purpose but my God. Anytime you want to check in or buy something it takes about 20 minutes? I forgot to mention the food is actually pretty pathetic. We had to pay 5 bucks per cheese we wanted to add, we were then treated to 5 small slices of what tasted like quebecon cheddar.

Came for a bachelorette weekend and stayed in one of the lodges. It was beautiful and clean. Upon check in there were some discrepancies of services and what was included in our stay for what we had collectively paid for. One of the managers sorted it out and it was a smooth sailing weekend from there. All of the girls enjoyed their selves. Great weekend and great experience!

Hitting a 2 hour route from Montreal to Gatineau to be refused when arriving on site was very disappointing and frustrating after a long drive. I browse the website for 1 full week to get as much information as possible to spend a relaxing day at the spa and upon arrival we are informed that we must book for the thermal experience ... I do never seen anything so insane in a spa. I understand that you have to book for treatments, but for a swim .... ??? In addition, the website does not specify. I believe that an asterisk with the word "REQUIRED" is not enough. At least add "* THERMAL EXPERIENCE" or create a separate section for the thermal experience. REALLY disappointing.

I went to this spa for the first time in April on a monday and had an amazing experience and left me feeling quite sad upon departure. My girlfriend's and I went to 4 of the Aufguss sessions that day and it was invigorating. Today i took my mother and again amazing experience. However as today is a Sunday it was a little but busier than the last time and so the areas that are meant to be quiet or whispering I found quite loud. Nevertheless it was great. It rained all day but it added a really great feeling while in the hot baths.
Last time I went Julie did a few of the aufguss sessions and she was there again today. She is absolutely amazing at her job, making sure you get the full experience of the heat the scent and she moves so beautifully.

A really nice spa but when crowded it's really unpleasant because even the quiet areas start to get a bit noisy and disruptive with all the people moving around. Avoid busy times if possible!

Peaceful visit with a good array of relaxation rooms and food selections. Excellent service from staff. Try to go in the off peak hours if possible to avoid the crowds. My only suggestion to the facility, would be to have a specific space or locker for outdoor shoes, especially in the winter season.

Great place to unwind and relax. Often it can be quite busy, so try to come during non popular times.

Except the one time when the oven was being replaced at lunch, a great place to relax and indulge yourself.

Not so relaxing for a spa. Went on a sunny Friday, October 20th, arriving at 10 am only to find ourselves at the back of a long line. One hour later of shuffling forward every 10 minutes, we got through.

Lunch at the tapas bar was just ok. I swear they bought the dip at Costco.

Then came my much anticipated 100$ foot massage during which no actual massaging of the foot occurred.

The woman's bathroom was a bit of a mess. There were Line-ups for the shower and my key stopped functioning suddenly leaving me without my clothes.

The pools and and rest spots were crowded but still pleasant.

Amazing spa. The best I have been to. Spas like the Elmwood and Four Seasons in Toronto don t even compare. You can spend all day and not even enjoy all of the saunas. My group all got the Kalla salt soak which was amazing. It is great that they limit the number of people allowed in but we had to wait to get in... it seems odd that since it is an extra $40 it is a little difficult to get into... there are relaxation chairs down by the salt soak pool which seems to encourage people to hang out down there... while others who have paid are waiting to get in. There are many other places where people can sit and relax. If you go down to the salt pool it should only be to gloat. Not to sit and relax and listen to music... just saying... :)

Absolutely awful.

We have been patrons for a decade and not once have we be turned away at the door. We reached the top of the stairs to have the following conversation:

Nordik staff: do you have a reservation.
Us: No.
Nordik staff: come back after 7 tonight.

There was no apology, no "sorry for your inconvenience."

We asked the staff how long you've needed to book reservations for and he responded that it had been six months. As we turned away and proceeded to leave the staff member (who is obviously having fun with this) did not wish us a good day, he stated "you should have nade a reservation" as he chuckled. Disgusting and rude.

My wife (who by the way is a disabled veteran) and I drove well over an hour just to be turned away. We booked the day off of work and paid for child care

You need to make it much more clear on your website that this has changed. A full run banner would be most appropriate.

Post a staff member at the bottom of the stairs rather than having people walk up those stairs just to be turned away.

After a decade, we are unsure if we will return and we will be sure to post reviews everywhere we can - and tell everyone we know how you treat customers. Shame on you.

Side note, wouldn't have made this post however; after waiting on hold for almost an hour I have lost my patience.

Drove two hours to get to this spa on a monday morning.. arrived at 10:45 am had to wait two hours in line even though we both had massages reserved. The entrance and massage cost us $300. Only 4 attendants at the cash to process hundreds of people. Proceeded to purchase food and beverage credit in the amount of $400 for my hubby's birthday. When we went for dinner only salad and lamb was available on the menu since their fan was broken. We chose specifically this spot since he loves fish and scallop and should have been advised when we arrived at thevery least so we could make other arrangements. Very dissappointing experience. Nothing was done to compensate or rectify this situation. Will not be back and will discourage other montrealers from going. We have better spas at home with better client care.

Out of bathrobes all day, didn't feel like a spa more like adult pool, not clear how to use the different pools, expensive for what you get
