Always stunning. I come here often, yet I always find something new to see. The constant supply of new temporary exhibits is wonderful--while I enjoy looking at my favorites, it's nice to see new things too.

While most of the setting was nice, we were not informed until after our tickets were purchased that the majority of the exhibits were closed. This was likely posted online and we missed it, but while what was open was a great experience; the full ticket price did not feel justified when it was so limited.
The only problem that I have with this is that most of the paintings are pixelated. You see, if I turn in my work that is pixelated to my professor, my professor would give me a 0 on the assignment, and tell me to reprint it. Unfortunately Google does not give out 0s, so I'll let you pass with a 2/5 (for great customer service, awesome garden and great urban lights), but please reprint them before the next surprise inspection. ciao.
This place was nice and clean. Lamp arrangements very interesting to say the least. You can shoot some memorable pictures here. Parking was easy and didn't have to pay after 8 pm.
A lot of construction lately. I can't wait to see the finished product. Something for everyone, friendly informative staff...I recommend going when it is not to crowded.
Always wonderful art to view at LACMA but on this Friday it also had live jazz playing in the court yard at 6pm. There are a couple of options for food in the courtyard while listening to the music. I had an amazing pizza with figs and arugula. So good!
I remember the late afternoon, after this last presidential election. It started in the Gelson's market, on Franklin near Bronson. I was behind a nice-looking woman, who was fumbling to fill-out her check. The checker said: "It's Nov.8th, honey, the day after the election." The check-writer started crying. The eerie silence, in that big, fancy store was finally broken by the soft voice of a very old lady, in a big sun hat: "It was just like this, I was in here, then, right before Thanksgiving. They'd just killed the President in Dallas." Cut to a very rare, free, neighborhood parking space. I won't say where. There! Up ahead: LACMA, admission is FREE after 6 pm, on weekdays! Getting my sticker, and entering the almost empty main-gallery I was pleased to see the charming Matisse tile mural, that use to hang in Mrs. Broidy's patio. Around the corner was a stunning array of Picasso, including one of his later, bold works, a 1969 symphony in yellow. This place goes on, and on, and on. An encyclopedic collection of world culture. Start in the lower level: take a tour of ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Islamic world, Asia, the stunning newish pre-Columbian art of the Americas, move through the Europe of Rembrandt, Hals, Manet, Monet: I tumbled right into the 21st expression of David Hockney. You really are transported to another eorld! I felt like Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" "Nothing bad can happen here!" Well......almost nothing: a new, $700 million (that'll be an even billion, when done) LACMA "master plan", endorsed by a hand-full of Hollywood "big wigs" calls for tearing down ALL of these ecclectic, serviceable and semi-signifigant galleries and theatres and replacing them with a huge, brand-new LACMA that would "morph" movie special FX-style across Wilshire. PLEASE people: spend that money on BUYING new art, especially by underrepresented communties; and education and outreach. Art education in our public schools in now a luxury, and that's wrong! If something like LACMA isn't "broken" don't try and "fix" it!
Love this museum. You could easily spend at least half a day going through all of the exhibits. the buildings are huge and the art and installations they have are a perfect blend of unique and classic. Clean facilities, buildings, and grounds. Everyone who worked there was helpful if need be. Parking is easy right across the street. Great location to restaurants nearby to grab a bite before, during, or after.
So, why a 2? I had wanted to go to LACMA for a long time. My previous visit was for the King TUT exhibit. Because I live in Orange County it cost me more to get in. Even as a senior it was not inexpensive for two tickets. Between parking, tickets and lunch it was well over $100 for two. Then there were the exhibits with the descriptions in about 14 point type. According to the guards, many people complain about the small print but the people at LACMA apparently don't care. In one gallery the guard insisted I back up so far from the exhibit that the text could not be read. When I pointed that out she said the curator didn't want people closer. And of course, what I really came for was the Japanese pavilion which was closed. I doubt I will go back. Somewhat unfriendly.
Great place to bring the kids as there is plenty of space to run around by the tar pits, next to the outdoor large public restrooms and picnic benches. Also be aware of statues of mammoths are being held up by rope tie so I suggest not to get to near so the kids don't get other ideas..
LACMA has art and free musical performances, including jazz and classical. The performances are world class. It also has one of the largest art collections. And it is next to the prehistoric LaBrea Tar Pits. You can make a day -- and evening -- of it..
Pretty cool. Definitely take advantage of the resident or student discounts for admission, if you can. They have a lot of artwork on display. I'm sure you'll find something that piques your interest.
The lights outside are better at night. The museum are nice also but wasn't able to see everything since it's under construction. Out of all the bldgs they have I prefer the Japan area since it gives more to the public.
First time here and so far it is great. They have a children s center where kids can paint for free. Here is the even better part, you can sign up each child to get free membership until they are 17, and each child can bring any adult for free! (Except Wed). I encourage everyone to come out here for a good art culture experience.
A great museum with a lot of interesting exhibitions and a permanent collection worth visiting. It is well-curated and the special exhibits are excellent. Worth a visit.
Family from Europe wanted to see the lights. We had so much fun exploring and discussing art forms. Great way to spend a day......or a week. You need a week to see it all!
