This musuem houses a variety of unique art works from Medieval Europe to the mid twentieth century. It's site is adjacent to the prehistoric La Brea Tar Pits and is found on Wilshire Blvd. One of the perks of this museum, is if you're a California resident with a vaild ID, it's free after 3 p.m during the weekdays. The majority of permanent collections are available for the general public. Like most museums, there's temporary exhibits and range from $25 to $45 per person. With that stated, admission may occasionally be quite costly, unless you're a staunch advocate for the arts, then your money is worthwhile. In spite of all this, it's a great museum, but with only two downfalls: First, some art exhibitors can be snobby and very sensitive to certain pieces. Particularly, in the Pablo Picasso section, there're too restrictive and won't even allow photographs to be taken. Second, although it has free admission from 3-5 p.m., in all honesty, two hours isn't enough for everything. In addition to this, I believe, once a month there's jazz performances, if you're bon vivant. Overall, it's great for anybody interested in our short history of creativity.
Interesting place and defiantly a must see when visiting LA
Really clean.
Friendly, proffessional staff.
Great place to see a wide selection of artwork.
Btw...NEXGEN...if you have children under 18 yrs old...ask about it!!!
Come on who doesn't love the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. But, while you're there, you really should also visit the craft museum across the street.
Visited only for Del Toro's exhibition in the first place and ended up spending almost all day strolling around the museum
Average museum. The light gallery was underwhelming
Even though it was raining we had a great day.. One of their expositions was Paintings from Mexico . What I liked best was the Urban lights.
Interesting. It's free after 3 weekdays if you are a resident.
Some of the pieces on display have no artistic value.
Some of the best art in the country. Beautiful amenities, parking is decent and the staff is knowledgeable and courteous. Food is pricey, but that's to be expected at a place like this.
Tons of beautiful art. Exhibits are unique and interesting.
A very appealing experience, with a broad, accessible collection across multiple buildings. Also, there are several establishments for drinks and/or food at several locations across the grounds, making it a great social setting.
Really great selection of art. The outdoor areas are also fun and a nice place to hang out and have a picnic.
Overpriced, outdoor security guards are jerks about everything, and unless there is an exhibit you specifically want to see, skip this one.
Love this place. Great for photography. Pre-wedding, social media pictures. Best time to visit is late in the night.
A very good museum containing a wide spectrum of different artistic styles
What I entered was a late time but its form of sweet land
Wow! Kids get in free. Adult prices are pretty low. And you get to see a diverse range of art by all kinds (including great names that you've heard of). This place is a real treat.
Parking is a pain, though. We had to park in some public garage several blocks away and walk.
There are many places where the entrance fee costs a lot of money, but there is no sense that there are many things to see.
We love LACMA. It is always a great family outing. We visit the galleries, paint, and run around outside on the grass. We love the free arts activities on Sundays!
A fun cultural experience. Great cocktails in the outdoor lounge as well.
Lots of great permanent and rotating exhibits.
Been here twice a year apart and there was plenty of new art on display the second time around.
Loved the David Hockney exhibit. Contemporary museum has some wonderful pieces from Paul Klee, Kandinsky, Picasso and more. The Metropolis II very entertaining!I barely scratched the surface after spending the day.
One of my favorite museums in the United States for the range of exhibits on display.
LACMA s collection is incredible. I was amazed by the amount and quality of work housed at the museum, and had a great time walking through the galleries!
Everything was on a white background, it all looked the same. It was very cold and boring,I couldnt wait to get out of there. That's not to say the pieces or art wasn't great, but how everything was presented made everything uninteresting. I feel bad for the artists whose pieces have to endure being placed in such drab conditions. This was the worst art museum I have visited, and I've visited dozens....
LACMA is an LA gem that is fun for the entire family. The museum typically has a new exhibits throughout the year and has jazz during summer hours. With dozens of perks and a wide-ranging collection (eastern, western, modern, film, etc), LACMA is the museum to visit while in LA.
Currently, they have an exhibition about 3D images and it has evolved. I was able to appreciate different pieces of art from Picasso and many others, especially those related to expressionism! Nice parking lot and excellent atmosphere to spend time with your family!
The coolest place in the county lamps is a circuit that lights up your heart, go with your partner will be more genial..
Very good exhibitions and a vast collection that totally worth the visit!
The campus is massive. We spent 3 hours there and barely saw half the collection. Taking off one star because it was difficult to place where an exhibit was in a building and the staff was not terribly helpful. The Fairytale Art exhibit was awesome, especially the stop motion Cinderella film from the 1920s.
You need a whole day for this but it is soo worth it!
Take your friend, date, mom, family, co-workers.
Im coming back yearly to see new art =)
It has the elegance of the most formal museums with an array of interactive displays that make it fun. We had an excellent native guide who took us through a couple of hundred years of natural wisdom and history in just over an hour.
Food was very overpriced and when inside we decided not to go we go back to the parking 21 minutes spent 16 dollars it really was a rip off
Quite large museum, with exhibits dotted around different buildings (but quite close to each other). Keep an eye on the brochures with the schedule of the day, because cool tours happen - like the highlights of the museum collection.
You can learn a thing coming here. It is a great way to spend your afternoon. looking at beautiful, mesmerizing and weird art. Came here with a couple of friends and we had a blast.
the labrea tar pits are amazing to look at. The fact that it is still there is amazing.
The staff at LACMA are awful, rude, unprofessional and unhelpful. Staff would often pretend not to hear questions but would chastise patrons for the smallest infractions. Meanwhile, security personnel hung out in groups on the edges of galleries, speaking loudly and laughing. Each staff member appeared to have their own set of rules and expectations, which changed practically from room to room. If I wanted to pay to be harassed and persecuted there are an infinite number of Scientology establishments in the Los Angeles area where I could sign up for Sea Org instead.
Although a little hard to know where you are, lots of art work and a great experience.
Art museums aren't my favourite thing so it's difficult for me to say I loved it, however compared to some other art museums I've been to, LACMA should still definitely be an attraction you visit. It's got a lot of different set styles, some interactive which I liked. And the space is just very nice to be in.
The tickets are a little pricey so you definitely want to make the most of it. I would give yourself 3 hours to be comfortable and be able to see everything. I think we went with 1.5-2 to spare and while we saw most of the rooms, we could have spent more time wandering and taking it in.
They do have underground paid parking which is nice but wish it was free for LACMA visitors.
Another plus, the La Brea Tar Pits are right next door so we actually just walked over.
A great museum with some extraordinary art from all over the world.
Permanent collection is closed, they honestly tell that at the ticket desk. So what's left is a couple of temporary exhibitions, which are nice, but not worth the price of 25 dollars. But hey, a lot of museums are free in LA, so that compensates :))
One of my favorite museums to go to! Beautiful artwork, great architecture, and clean environment!
A must place to visit if you like museums. You will find numerous galleries/expo through the place.
Had to pay a ridiculous $16 for parking and they close so early its pathetic. Whats the point of having a museum when its always going to be closed all the time?
A worthwhile visit. Metropolis II only runs from Friday till Sunday.
A bit ropey. Very odd curating. Save your money. Go to London, Paris, Amsterdam...
LACMA is best known for the light post exhibition outside (accessible without admission) but they have multiple buildings with several interesting collection. During my visit, I had the pleasure to walk through the ticketed Gehry exhibit which is a must-see if you're an architecture fan. The other exhibits are lovely with a nice variety of periods.
Great exhibits with lots of famous painters/paintings from different eras. Price was only $15 for about 3-4 hours of browsing. And the salad bar in the cafeteria was actually really tasty and not bad pricing. Highly recommend!
Such a beautiful outdoor space. Make sure to visit on a weekday evening to have the place to yourself. So fun and such great photos.
So much to see and do. Plan plenty of time to spend there!
