Great site with laundry and very nice and free showers. Easy drive to Bryce. Staff is wonderful and helpful.

Kadachrome Basin was a great place to enjoy with our family! There are a variety of hikes, and they suit every ability. They have a small visitor s center, with the usual postcards and maps, interpretive displays and such, but also have bagged ice and ice cream. We were also blessed by how good the water was there. After camping for 4 days, and trying to get water (that was rancid) at the Paria Contact Station, we filled up there with cool, clean water. Air conditioned bathrooms, too!
Beautiful park. Been coming here since the mid 80s its always so clean and quiet.
Beautiful state park with the cleanest restrooms and great showers. The views are amazing! Take the time to visit Grosevenor Arch and other area landmarks! The only downfall were the bugs got pretty bad in the evening making it hard to cook outdoors and the wend was crazy at night making it hard to sleep in a tent.
Tent camped here for 3 nights to explore the surrounding area. Spent 1 day each exploring Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase Escalante, and Kodachrome Basin. Kodachrome has good hiking trails between 1/2-6 miles long, most (if not all) can be biked as well. On a cross country road trip and the restrooms and showers here were (surprisingly) the cleanest and nicest I've had during my travels. Laundromat is sparkling clean as well. Only downside to camping here was that there is zero cell service (other than the heat, but it's July in Utah so what can you expect). Had to drive Tropic to receive text messages, and to Bryce Canyon to make phone calls and have internet (have AT&T).
This place is so neat!! We had so much fun! We hiked angels palace, a short time but a very scenic one! This park has what looks like a very well kept camp grounds and hook ups for trailers. Done by reservations. Clean park and a great place to visit in such a rich area.
Sooo fun. We got a really good camping spot and it was really accessible to a lot of stuff. Really close to Bryce Canyon and a good place to spend the day.
Very Very clean restrooms and include showers. Although showers dont include soap so you will have to bring your own.
These are some pictures of a hike nearby.
Wow! Definitely worth the stop. Couple camp grounds were fully booked so we just went for a day hike. Within minutes on the angel's palace trail you are in a completely different landscape with awesome views. The trail is a bit hard to follow but you cant really get lost as you come down the same way you went up. Stay off dirt roads when wet. Even a little rain. It may not look wet but when you loose traction it's worse than snow.
An interesting State Park with many beautiful features that will delight anyone with a camera. Hiking around exploring the arch and up to the many monoliths is a lot of fun, allowing you a 365 degree view. This was a fun place to visit and we would recommend you to take the time to do so. You'll enjoy.
This Park is off the beaten path, but still convenient to Bryce Canyon NP. The rock formations here are lovely, and there are several nice hiking trails. Take a guided horseback ride to see more of the park. The campground was clean. Recommend this Park as a great place to visit and to stay for a few days.
Amazing showers ! Wood is available if you forget yours. RV spots are easy to get into. Each site has a fire pit, cement pad with picnic table. Nice quiet and clean only drawback it is off the beaten path
Hidden gem! Surreal landscape. Great hikes! Horse rides. Clean and modern bathrooms. Excellent camp sites! Enough shade to help with the heat. Full hookups. Firewood available. Dog friendly. Close to Bryce. We stayed 5 nights. No cell service. We loved it!
Small, but very pretty for a quick trip.
Trails aren't well marked.
Had the place entirely to ourselves on a Thursday in Feb.
Beautiful scenery, close proximity to Bryce Canyon Ntl Park. Too bad that the Shakespeare arch had collapsed in 2019. We are thinking of heading back and camping jnside the park to enjoy more of the park! Hikes, night life.
This place is an oasis! The park itself is amazing geographically and in the way it is taken care of. All of the trails are very well manicured and marked. The whole park is dog friendly, one of the most alluring things about it as I hardly go places I cannot take my dogs.
The Basin Campground is wonderful. Hot showers, laundry mat, flush toilets, firewood (all money from the wood sales goes to the local boy scout troop) and ice all available at the campground. The campsites are all very well situated and give the guest an ample amount of seclusion from the other sites. Hint: numbers 12, 13 and 17 look to be the best spots in the grounds.
The gentleman, Danchel, that was working the visitors center was a gem. I asked a lot of questions about the area and he answered all of my questions with ease. He made the stay that much more enjoyable.
Sunset hike do the Angel's Palace. Sunrise hike do Shakespeare's Arch.
PHENOMENAL natural beauty. The "paved" walkway of the "ADA accessible" nature trail is NEITHER. The info needs an update. The Park apparently took a low bid for the paving. The concrete has turned to sand and rock. Fairly easy walk, but NOT paved. Make sure you drive out to Chimney Rock.
Just a short drive from Bryce, Kodachrome is gorgeous and more remote. The trails are excellent for hiking and mountain biking.
A beautiful park and campground. Only about 30 mins from Bryce Canyon NP. Hate to give a great rating, then more people may visit. Besides the incredible vistas, there are a number of hiking trails that get you right on top (or bottom) of the rock formations. The site we had at the campground (Basin) was full hookups with plenty of room for our pickup and 39ft 5th wheel. In addition, we were surrounded by the landforms. On the back roads outside the park is a slot canyon and Grosvenor Arch (double Arch). Highly recommended.
Great hike Saw ballerina rock, hat rock, Indian cave. Easy hike
Beautiful Park! Stayed in Arch CG #40 in May of 020 during the C19. This has H20 & Electric, Some shade at the end of the day with a good size tent pad. Bring a Mountain bike as most trails are for bikes people and horses. You can see everything in the park in one day on a bike. Drone permits are available for free from the ranger station and access is unlimited as long as you don't fly over people or cause problems.
Absolutely amazing park I recommend the Angel's palace trail! Unfortunately was disappointed to find out that Shakespeares arch had fallen... which was the only arch in the entire park. Very tragic.
This place is extraordinary, magical, peaceful, inspiring. Although I don t want to attract too many people with my comments, one can t miss it if they happen to drive by this extraordinary region of South Utah.
What a great hidden gem in this area! Most folks I told about this park had never heard of it. I camped here with my dog for 2 nights in October 2017 and LOVED IT! This is one of the nicest campgrounds we stayed in for our 3+ week trip. Everyone we chatted with in the campground said the same thing. The bathrooms (with showers inside) were super clean. And so many water spigots, I only had to walk 10 feet to get to the closest one. Plus, they have a brand new laundromat with 4 washers and 4 dryers.
Even with all that the best part was that it was a state park so I could take my dog on all the hiking trails in the park. We had a blast! I highly recommend checking this place out if you are traveling along Hwy 12. You won't regret it!
Absolutely breathtaking. Lots of great hiking trails for all levels. Bring lots of water and be prepared for warm days!
A wonderful State Park with over 70 monolithic spires and chimneys, red and white sandstone formations and dotted with juniper, sage and pinion. A very dramatic scene under the blue skies of Utah. There are nice camping areas with picnic tables and firepit with grills. They even have a laundromat within the park and a bunkhouse. The park is open year round but summers can be hot and winter's can bring snow with an elevation of 5800 ft.
Beauty all around, great trails, campground with sandpits. Remote and tranquil. Love it!!
Koda Chrome basin is very easy to be missed and most people and never get there. If you are traveling along scenic byway 12 and hopefully you should be one of these years since it's one of the most spectacular drives ever. This is a very unique and surreal area and you can drive around and take in the breathtaking views or you can actually get out and hike around a little bit. I recommend bringing a camera and taking photographs and this place is amazing near sunset.
I have never had a nicer shower in any campground! In fact I don t know if I have had a nicer shower in any of my places of residence. Well kept grounds and plenty of fun things to do here. Hike, bike, scorpion hunt, horse ride, or take another nice shower. Plenty of good sites for RVs or tents. Don t worry about the very interesting shaped formations.
so glad we made this part of our zion//bryce trip. stars were unbelieveable. bathrooms nicer than I've ever seen in a park. quiet. no crazy party people here so don't start that trend and #keepitnice
Very nice state park. Decent trails but if your looking for a high difficulty trail there is none to be found. Very beautiful panoramic views and rock features. The best feature is that there are very few people. You can go a long time on a trail and not run into anyone. We did 8 miles of trails in the park and glad we did. Don't overlook this state park. Bathroom and water facilities available. Small gift shop.
Shower near campground is open for everyone. The first spa like shower I've ever found with a rain shower head and handheld.
Since I have a State Park Pass, got a Shower for a dollar. Plus, they have laundry service. Not the most photogenic during the day, but my new favorite State Park
One of the nicest campgrounds that we stayed in. The views are amazing and the facilities are the best we've encountered in a long time. Plus they have a new disc golf course although it's a really hard course
It is ok, but wasn't really the what I expected, i guess compared to Bryce Canyon this is so much less impressive
Very nice state park within 30 minutes of Bryce Canyon. We camped here and used it as a base to visit Bryce. Best showers I've ever used in a campground, even nicer than my shower at home. There is no cell service in the basin but the visitor center has WiFi available.
Stunningly beautiful. Lots of easy walks of varying lengths which was great when traveling with kids. Make sure you ferry the junior ranger activity book when you check in.
I would camp here over and over again. Remote location surrounded by red rocks, allowing it to cool off earlier. Campsites were not the most private (we saw people on either side) but the facilities (clean bathroom + place to wash dishes) more than make up for it.
I would give this place 10 Stars if I could. It is as awesome a park as you can imagine. It got its name from a National Geographic photographic picture story from the 1920s or so. The photographers were so blown away by the geologic features they decided that Kodachrome Basin was the proper name for this place. We came for a couple of days there are well we toured around the other national parks in the vicinity and very much enjoyed it.
Great spot to camp outside of Bryce. Brand new facilities. Beautiful hikes with hardly anyone around. Very remote. Great star gazing!
Incredible attraction . Walk 10 feet have a diff er ent view. Took over 500 pictures.
So beautiful and pretty quiet too. I went when they were full and I couldn't hear any people besides my neighbors. Dog and bike friendly trails, I really enjoyed it here.
What a beautiful park! Summer Saturday afternoon and hardly anyone was around. Hiked Angel Palace trail, fantastic views and great for photography! Campgrounds/sites are really nice. Definitely a great place for a few hours or several days.
Big camping sites. Amazing views from your tent. Friendly and helpful rangers. Games for rent. Luxurious showers. Dishwashing station. It's really an amazing place to camp.
Kodachrome is an awesome park that gets very little attention just because of the national parks it neighbors. The rocks here are very different then anywhere around, having more spores than hoodos. There are not a ton of trails so probably only worth 1 or 2 days of visiting, but still worth it. The slickrock cutoff portion of the Shakespeare Arch trail, is an awesome trail, my favorite in the park. Only downside of Kodaxhrome is that many of the trails are not marked very well.
Such a beautiful nights sleep. The basin is a gorgeous place to camp and all the better with a fire ban on. The views of the milkyway are breathtaking
Awesome staff and great scenery! Loved the camping experience as well as the hikes
Interesting park. Wasn't sure what we were getting into. We were just riding motorcycles but there were only two really short roads. This place is more suited for camping and hiking than a scenic drive. Cool formations to see though nonetheless.
Great state park located not too far away from Bryce Canyon.
We stayed in the Basin Campground. This is the very best, highest quality campground I have ever been to in 25+ years. Beautiful area, large picnic tables with firepits and nice separation between spots with lots of juniper trees. The best part is their luxury showers. I'm willing to bet they are the #1 camp showers in North America. Rain shower head? Ooooo yes!!!
Out of the Way? You'll need transportation and a willingness to travel over dirt roads and away from services, but the name isn't wrong. For post-Kodak people, Kodachrome was the first color photography available to the general public. An it's application to this area is perfect. Don't miss Grovenors Arch and the other sites along the road and in the park.
Fantastic display of geologys wildest ways to form these rock structures that look like chimneys. Pretty far out there but worth the trip. Campgrounds available all over. More shots posted soon at @utahtravels on IG.
It was amazing there!! It was sooo beautiful! Just make sure you don't go off trail because that damages wild life and the reason its named kodachrome is because of the Kodak picture company!! One of these was from inside my car.
Beautiful small park with lots of accessible trails. As it seems to be the case in Utah, the restrooms are spectacular, with the shower in this park rivaling a swedish spa!
Restroom facilities had been recently updated in the campground and were very nice. Nice clean park. Didn't get to do any hiking there as it was just a 1 night stop between destinations but would definitely go back.
Camped here for 2 nights. Great spot, amazing stars at night. Good sized locations although a tiny bit sloped. Clean modern bathrooms and shower.
Beautiful and unique scenery. Not a lot of people there when we were.
This is a very nice and quiet (out-of-the-way) place with real natural beauty. It's about 30 minutes away from Tropic Utah and is a good alternative to Bryce Canyon. I did a half-day visit during the afternoon hours and the colors of this place are quite spectacular. Take the time to hike and photograph the surroundings. There is no shortage of good views here. You will like the peace and quiet this place has to offer as there are so few people around. Most of them are serious campers and not tourists. The park offers a small laundry facility with clean restrooms for those who need it.
I wish I had more time to explore this lovely place. Do some research on why this place is named the way it is. It will all make sense when you see it in person. Totally worth the 8 dollars I paid to visit this place and surely a place to revisit someday.
Great landscape and not crowded like Bryce Canyon. The park is small and you probably can finish all the hikes in one day. The basin area is very pretty and it worth going up the Angel's Palace Trail to the overlook of the basin. Facilities are great. It has a laundromat and flush toilets.
This campground has 5 star hotel type bathrooms, I have no idea why. I am sure that there are few to none campers with better bathrooms in their homes. There are rain type shower heads, hand held nozzles, and attractive wood-like and stone tile.
We loved camping here! Very clean and well upkept facilities!
Beautiful area ruined by egregious horrible land management/trail maintenance. Someone has decided to take the easy way and has brought in a bulldozer. No evidence of trying to stabilize the newly disturbed trail which will just make things worse in the long run. There were small sections of the previous trail that did not appear (to me) to be in severe disrepair. Additionally, there are known methods to make trails more durable to multi use travel - I do not believe these methods call for bulldozing what amounts to a road into the fragile environment.
Don't miss this stunning state park 30min from Bryce! We visited it in the late afternoon and hiked the Angel's Palace Trail: the views and colors are wonderful and the trail scrambling through 'canyons' and up rocks was a lot of fun for our kids (2, 4 and 7 yrs).
The restrooms were sparkling clean and the campsites looked nice as well.
Beautiful and has camping and full hookup rv sites.
We stubble onto this park while riding our bikes from Cannonville. If you like camping this is the spot to go!!
A great dark skies park off the beaten path with clean facilities, a helpful staff, and considerate fellow campers.
Worth the trip! Nice hiking. Away from the crowds of Bryce Canyon.
Kodachrome Basin State Park is a remote small, but interestig nice little playground of the force of the Mother Nature. It is not an accident, the name come from a photo film name, from the analogue age. You can take long walk among the stone formations and you will be able to have a look at the Shakespeare Arch just find the head of the trail.
It's a neat place to visit at least once. Really enjoyed the rock formations. We went in mid July and it was ridiculously hot. I would suggest spring or early fall. We did the panorama trail hike, about 6 miles in length. Some cool things to see. Don't attempt without plenty of water. I went through 2 litres by the time I finished, but then again, it was hot when I went
We're actually staying at a different RV Park but had i know how wonderful this park is, I would have stayed there. We just drove through because someone had mentioned to us how nice the park is and they're absolutely correct. There aren't many water and electric hookups so I imagine their difficult to reserve. The park itself is beautiful. The stars at night have to amazing because you're pretty far back off the main road. The restrooms were clean.
This is a guess but I figure you're probably around 25 miles from Bryce Canyon National Park. If i come out this way again, this is where I'll stay.
It is beautiful and has some nice hikes. It s rather small compared to other state parks. It is a great place to camp because it s not super crowded. It isn t a must-see, but a great place to explore if you re already visiting Bryce Canyon.
This place was incredible! We stayed for 2 nights. The grounds are spotless, bathrooms are spa like and the views are amazing even at night! Totally off the grid and we loved it. Did some great hiking with the pups. Definitely the best park we've ever stayed at and would definitely go back!
We hiked Angel's Palace trail on 10/27. Chilly and windy at 1st but warmed up nicely. I recommend this hike, a plethora of beautiful photos to add to my Southern Utah album.
Do the horse trail (you can rent a horse), the bathrooms are amazing, nice visitor center, and can see bryce from there
We had some time before we were heading out of the area so this state park was recommended. It was nice to be out of the crowds and have the entire park to yourself. (this was mid afternoon) Provided an majorly easy going hike and relaxing time.
Cool little park. The arch we hiked to was collapsed which was a bummer but the views are great. The grovesnor arch which isn't actually inside the park was the best part.
A small and beautiful state park with a picturesque landscape with colorful rocks and white chimneys. Two campgrounds, a visitor centre, a laundromat. Definitely worth visiting.
Unique formations and small crowds. A good trip for a break from the number of people at Bryce. Many drive thru camp areas. More privacy.
Small and tucked out of the way. Great camping and super clean showers
Nice little state park with several trails offering amazing views. We were short on time and only got a chance to drive through the park and walk the Nature Trail, which alone was worth the entrance fee. We didn't camp in the park, but plan to in the future after seeing the RV camp ground (center of the park). Overall, definitely worth a visit, and maybe even a couple day (or week) stay.
The road to the park and the road inside the park are both paved.
Beyond the park is a dirt road that requires high clearance. We planned to see the arch down the road and were unable to with a rental vehicle.
Utah has plenty of huge, weird, and unique rock formations, but Kodachrome Basin is in its own category of weirdness. Enjoy a short drive and hike around, looking at the different chimneys and spires. Big fan of the pyramid-looking one. A little bit off the main drive, but worth a detour if you have time.
Stunning vistas. Fantastic campgrounds with some electric. Nice trails. Laundromat. Bunkhouse rentals. Hot, hot, hot. Plan your visit well.
Its a small state park minutes from Bryce canyon with camping. Tent and rv.
Great camp sites and hiking trails. It tends to get hot during the summer, and juniper gnats are bad in the spring and summer. The best time to go would probably be in the fall so you can enjoy the scenery in moderate tempatures, without bugs.
Cheap. Full Campsite facilities. Laundry. Close proximity to Escalante and Bryce Canyon. Fantastic views.
