The Golden Gates bridge in San Francisco, USA, is named after the Golden Gate Strait, the narrow, turbulent, 300-foot-deep stretch of water below the bridge that links the Pacific Ocean on the west to San Francisco Bay on the east.

Believed to be the most photographed bridge in the world, this landmark was named one of the seven civil engineering wonders of the United States by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1994.

Fifty thousand people walked across the bridge when it first opened on May 26, 1937. It was opened to motor vehicles the next day.

On May 24, 1987, some 300,000 people squeezed onto the bridge for a 50th birthday party called Bridgewalk 87. The weight of bridge walkers that day caused the roadway to sag in the middle by 7 feet!! But bridge engineers said the structure always remained safe.

The Golden Gate Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 1964. It is now the ninth-longest.

Interesting fact: The two main suspension cables use a combined 80,000 miles of wire. Looped around the Earth s equator in a single strand, it would circle the planet three times.

I had the opportunity to visit this magnificent engineering marvel on our trip to USA. Would love to travel there again whenever the opportunity arises.

A must-see. Best way to see San Fransisco on bike however I recommend the electric bike option as while I'm a reasonably fit 40 something its very hilly and this extra push going up hills made it for me. We took the option of the ferry back which goes round Alcatraz and saved us a half day visit as we got really close photos. Tour guide was lovely and handled all ages

What a breathtaking experience! The photos don't adequately show what a huge bridge this is. Travel tip: the traffic coming from Highway 101 (and directly to the Golden Gate) is easier than on the Bay Bridge. Be sure to see the Golden Gate from both sides! You can safely walk across separated from traffic. If you can, stay for sunset on the Presidio or San Francisco side of the bridge. Watch for cyclists, bring a jacket and warm hat that won't fly away in the wind, even in summer months. Be aware that there are frequent car break ins and plan accordingly. I highly recommend packing snacks and waters in the car as there aren't many eateries right next to either side and you won't want to leave.

I mean, how do you not 5 start a national landmark? You would literally have to make a point to not enjoy yourself to give it a low rating, and I feel as if that is a reflection of yourself. How do you thumbs down a bridge, honestly? Anyway I had a great time running across the bridge and back. Security was watching out for our safety and were quite friendly about it.

Beautiful views of San Fran and the bay, but during the summer it was slow getting to the entrance of this bridge. Said I did it so happy about that. We stopped at the Vista Point and took some pictures. Very touristy place.

Have you been to the Golden Gate Bridge? If so, did you walk across it or drive across it? Well, for our anniversary this is what my wife and I did. We walked around Golden Gate Park & Golden Gate Bridge. Such a picturesque place!

An awesome sight. You can see Alcatraz from the bridge and from land. Free to walk on, free to cross going north with car, but you will charged a toll driving over it south bound. VERY heavy foot and bike traffic on a narrow walkway, plus ride bikers (locals) make it a 4/5.

It's a must visit place if you are on San Francisco trip. Engineering at it's best. If you walk on this you will feel the suspension while vehicles moving from the bridge. You get a breathtaking view of ocean from here and the breeze coming from sea will make you refreshed.

Second time to be here, also after trip to Alcatraz. The north wind is so powerful so it s not really comfortable to stay on the river bank for enjoy the view. However, still grateful to have an afternoon without the annoying rains during the chilling February

Amazing in every way, from any point of view and in any weather. We went there and across by bike which we highly recommend. Completely different experience and more rewarding to cross at your own pace.

Great View over the Golden Gate Bridge from an old militari base. Love that Bridge. Normally its often cloudy and its not possible to see the bridge in that light. But we had luck and had the greatest weather. Feeling happy :)

Overrated bridge. Not too long or nothing really special but it connects San Francisco to the bay so it is functional. Most times bsd traffic and there is a toll to pay... You can walk on it and this is awesome but you need to find somewhere to park and leave your car - good luck with it!!! Way too busy most times....

My daughter and I drove up the scenic route to see the Golden Gate Bridge up close. We were just in time to see the sunset. The views up on top we're magnificent. I didn't bring a jacket so I was freezing my buns off but it was all worth it!

This amazing bridge is one of the best tourists attractions in San Francisco. You can enjoy the view of the bridge from different viewpoints in San Francisco or take a one hour cruise. During a cruise, the ship is going under the bridge, so it is possible to observe it from different points.

Another great experience is a walk on the bridge. Take in a mind that the bridge is pretty long, something about 2.7 km.

Sometimes, it is foggy here and the bridge seems to be disappeared. Don't be frustrated, the weather can change rapidly. It was very foggy when my cruise started, and when we got to the bridge, it showed up from the fog like in a fairytale. It was a wonderful experience.

Beautiful and mysterious bridge! Must see! Walk bridge to the other side. It takes approximately 1hr 30min to the Sausalito ferry. The ferry will take you back to the land $7/pp (if I remember that correctly). Wear warm clothes!

I left a three star review because the bridge is cool but not much to do there other then taking a photo and walking around the park. The small museum was closed and the bathrooms were extremely dirty and graffiti everywhere.

Stunning view when when it's cloudy. If you want to go across it without a car and aren't super into walking you should definitely rent a bike because it is a long way to go. I would also recommend bringing a light jacket since it does get very windy.

Since it was once in a life time experience, it was surreal to say the least. And since I went there just before sunset, the shades of the sun, combined with the wind in my face ensured I never forgot this experience.

It honestly a place I've never been to and I'm super paranoid about going into big cities due to crime and high rates of poverty but I took the leap when I was traveling through santa cruz to make it a point to see 1 of the greatest pieces of architecture ever constructed and I do not regret it honestly so breathtaking to relax to after a 6+ hour drive if you're in california stop here and sight see it's really an immaculate piece of this world

I have a suggestion if driving a motor coach don t go to the compact lane. My husband did and left our bumper there and blew out tire on car dolly and the rim was destroyed. One great thing to know is they have Road Assistant that gets there quickly and has no problem helping change tire. He was very friendly and helpful. Thanks for your assistance

I have been to this bridge at its various sections, near and far, crossed it, and have taken a lot of selfies with her and I will never get tired of doing so. Whether partially covered by Carl, the fog or fully bare for all the world to see on a clear day, the view of the Golden Gate Bridge never fails to mesmerize. I will always leave my here.
