The arrival hall is a bit dated and a bit chaotic but in the departure area everything is super modern and nice staff but a new airport is to be built soon

I bet the person who runs this airport has never used it's public toilets. Filthy and with no toilet roll. WiFi doesn't work, states it is always full. The cafes etc are also very overpriced. Most expensive airport I've ever been to.

Rolala I have never seen such dirt! The toilets were so dirty that some people preferred to restrain themselves! And the staff is not nice at all.

Very small space and dirty. Large number of people and with minimal staff for proper service. A place to change a diaper to a baby or a mind As a sign there is, of course, no change to touch the baby. If you are so dirty that you are crazy!

This "airport"
is a joke. Have never seen such a run-down. A bad smell hung in the air, totally
dirty sanitary facilities receive the arrivals. The baggage takes an eternity due to numerous techn. Failures and errors of the staff. In addition, it was completely overcrowded - you could not move and was pushed back and forth.

Small airport, little choice for the meal but well organized.

It's amazing what this airport can get out of a runway. It still looks very exciting in the toilets (even 4:30 am) but everything works. Otherwise it is certainly not the most beautiful and most modern, but in the last 4 visits I have not even seen a really bad guy.

From Tegel on vacation to Hiraklion. Despite Corona - time went great. Now we enjoy the deserved vacation!

The airport is really small, it stinks and for a small airport like this, it takes forever to bring the luggages from plane. Huge waste of time.

The vacation on Crete was really nice but it ended badly at the airport. Everything was still good at check-in, but when I checked my hand luggage I met the most unfriendly staff. Take care of your luggage, because they are like garbage. They are also absolutely disrespectful and cheeky. It stinks in the waiting hall and it is really very dirty everywhere. The toilets are so dirty that you don't even dare to touch the tap. Don't touch anything!

The worst airport I have even been to. It's as simple as that.

Small and efficient. Can get in and out fast. Bit retro but not a necessary bad thing.

Airport with completely inadequate infrastructure to the volume of existing tourism and obsolete equipment. Employees are 99.9% unsympathetic (starting in airline which flew Aegean). Crete is beautiful. Who should be the face of the destinations they sell (airports and airlines) are the piorio.

Worst airport I've ever been to (and that was way over 50!). Much too small, so that even in Corona times it is like an Arab bazaar at its best! I was happy to only have hand luggage, because the queues at the check-in reached as far as Rhodes ... In addition, everything was totally outdated and uncomfortable, hardly any gastronomy, sometimes not air-conditioned ... A terrible experience that can easily spoil your holiday. ..

The nastiest airport ever. No functioning toilets, extremely dirty, totally overpriced in relation and total chaos!

Toilets dirty, sandwiches smelly expensive and not to eat. Tax free shop is nice .. can check in quickly .. compared to Rhodes last year, this 2 stars is worth instead of 1 ...

The airport staff is disappointing. To believe that they are not Greek. Few seats. Disgusting toilets. In short, it must be the worst place on this beautiful island.

The simplest way to fix this airport would be with an army of bulldozers. It's simply not large enough for the volume of passengers.

Overcrowded, noisy, badly organized, very bad air, even after exhaust fumes. Not very clean even when you see cleaning people. Toilets u hygienic, don't smell clean. When you look at what is being looked at in an exaggerated manner elsewhere on hygiene ... A very unpleasant experience for me.

The numbers of flights and passengers clearly exceed the capacity of the airport. Even with the current COVID pandemic, it is impossible to keep the distance to other people in this airport. As many other comments, this place is a disaster and it is not prepared to handle large amounts of people. They should spread the flights schedules to avoid simultaneous flights.

The most horrendous airport ever. 4.40 euros for a water. Massive overcrowding, no where to sit. No updates on delayed flights. 0 stars if i could give it!

Seldom give such negative reviews, but this airport deserves this. It totally ruined my impression of the island. We were robbed 60 euros there. The boarding administrators just want money otherwise you cannot board the airplane. Ugly faces.

I read similar experiences in the reviews below I am not alone. In our airline back to UK, there were at least 6 families robbed the 60 euros. This really makes me sick. Be aware of this dirty tricks, especially UK travelers.

Airport is the purest catastrophe.
Check-in is hardly, if not impossible, because the tapes are constantly on strike. Boarding takes forever, because the check-in has delayed everything. Everything above delays one flight after the other.
Toilets are really bad. You stand up to 1cm deep in the urine.
The only good thing was the security check.

The surly security was quick, though not the most pleasant of experiences.
There were not enough seats for everyone, but no one was allowed to sit on the 'massage chairs' unless you pay the 2. We were told to sit on the luggage belt.
A poor selection of any shops, with 3.80 for a small bottle of juice.

By far the worst airport I ve ever visited. Dirty, unfriendly and cramped. I don t understand how this can be the main airport on such a beautiful island.

Just a normal aiport, never really had any massive problems in the 5 years we have been flying into and out-of the airport. Ther toilets are not the cleanest, but there has been a significant improvement over the years that we have visited. The airport in general has seen lots of improvement that has benefited the overall experience. The duty free is not cheap to say the least but essentials can be purchased at a reasonable price. The staff are not as friendly as other European airports but I am not one who is likely to talk to them anyway. The new airport that is being built should iron out some of the problems with the current airport.

The departure area is much too small for the guests. Apparently more value is placed on the largest possible sales areas here.

The two stars are responsible for the speedy security check and the punctual departure. At least that was true for our flight.

Defective baggage belts, resulting in long waiting times at check-in, rushed security checks and sleepy times for boarding, allegedly shortly before 11 am Boarding for the flight at the gate, at 11:15 am the gate is still not free and boarding has not yet started, although the flight is supposed to go in 30 minutes.
Pure chaos.

It is incredible how after the renovation the airport became worst than before. The main focus of the renovation is to enable sales while ignoring clean facilities, comfort, and fast service. The check in process is deadly slow as well as the security screening. Furthermore, the airport is dirty, toilets and waiting area are terrible! If you don t wanna have unpleasant surprises go to the airport at least 2 hours in advance and if you have the chance to buy a speed boarding service make sure that you ll do it.

Sorry, sometimes I give sometimes two stars for effort but even that is not worth it, poor signage. Nothing to be found. Elevators are just dangerous. I dare not go to the toilet because of the other reviews no idea where we should go. The hall is now full for 2 other flights.

An absolute chaos airport, here nothing works at departure. The security checks take forever, staff is completely overloaded. Departures are delayed everywhere. Overall, the airport is much too small, information is scarce and mostly, if at all, unfriendly. The toilets are also a disaster, dirty nasty and small.

20/10/2020 disorganization from Athens Heraklion a lot of rain we park for 30 minutes inside the plane the ladder came and no one came down a lot of rain the staff shouted you have to go down There is not a covered staircase to keep people from getting wet the suitcases before the building water again on the head we finally pass suitcases and proceed to the Parking in front of the building all the wells clogged water in the duck shoes. The new part has been made at the airport with shops spending money on infrastructure for rain so that these locals who fill the planes do not get wet every day not only say keep 200 people inside the plane 50 on the bus shame shame

Greek airports are among the worst in the world for a reason. The first thing a traveler sees upon arrival, and the last thing when departing - is a dirty toilet with no toilet paper or/and soap. Long lines, bad organisation and a business lounge, which goes to find with a bit of luck (second floor over the A-gates, to the right from the escalator) is something that makes me ask myself if I am even welcome as a tourist. The good news: the Santorini airport is even worse.

Not as bad as anticipated. After reading the reviews i was a bit dicouraged, but once there it wasn't that bad. Just as described, WC are not clean, there is no information desk, and very few sitting places.
But, in my experience AC is quite efficient. Also, there is a decent amount of electric plugs.

It s really odd that some of the reviews give such bad ratings, which I think are because of different gates, we flew BA so went through gate B, we went through se unity in less than 5 minutes and into a pretty comprehensive duty free, well it might be duty free but apart from cigarettes 48 for 200 everything else was expensive a 1L bottle of Smirnoff vodka was 23 in my local supermarket it s 18 a litre.
Anyway there are snack bars in duty free but more after passport control.

There is a lounge but flying BA Club didn t give you access, apparently it s because Britain are a non-schengen country.. but if you have a Priority Pass or similar you can use it.

Well, it's the first time in Greece and they always say the first impression is decisive, the arrival hall is old and worn out. The departure hall is very nice, large duty free, toilets are unfortunately not clean, coffee and small things to eat are also available, but it makes no sense to buy in duty free because it is definitely not cheaper than in any other market at home. What I don't think is good that the lounge is closed due to Corona, that would straighten everything out a bit more in the waiting area

This has to be the worst airport ever!! Rude staff, extortionate food prices (as there's no other choice)- 10 for chicken nuggets and chips!! no paper or soap in the toilets. No one to give you any information when your flight seems delayed indefinitely. A totally horrific travel experience which is a shame as it has totally jaded my very enjoyable holiday!!

Unfortunately, there were few opportunities to eat, no choice of restaurants or shops.
Sanitary facilities shabby and dirty. Staff sometimes very unmotivated and signal indifferent to inquiries from travelers.
Checks would be carried out comparatively quickly, positive.
Air conditioning was down and there was unbearable air in the waiting area.
Improvements in air quality were not undertaken.

Taxis waiting outside refuse to use the meter and will quote an inflated price like some little mafia gang. They all work together on that, no driver will do it any different. Why wouldn't you stop this bad first impression of Greece from happening??

This airport is a disagreement. Big crowds, lack of organization and great flight delays. As for the appearance of the airport, I will leave it without comment ...

I did not think this airport was that bad. When departing on 25.10.2019 we were in the newer part of the terminal cleared the toilets I can not judge because I did not have to go to the bathroom. The windows in the waiting area would have to be cleaned otherwise I noticed nothing negative. When we arrived in the morning (first machine) it took a bit until we had our bags.

Small old and stale airport. There only seems to be a climate in the shop above.
A lot of people in the departure hall (August) and finally you have to wait a long time outside on the stairs for the bus to the plane; this is how you ensure that the waiting hall does not burst.
Cleanliness on the less good side.
However, the staff is extremely friendly.

Very poor organization is unheard of. At least we had a good laugh when we saw the bus drivers not knowing where they should go and the cats on the tarmac. Rather pleasant staff overall except the sandwich sellers who obviously don't seem happy to be here

Syphilis and grave. Starting from the cleanliness at the airport, ending with the organization of work. I do not recommend. The airport is completely unprepared for a large number of tourists.

The most catastrophic airport on the planet. You need a great deal of equanimity, with toddlers every overseas flight is a spa holiday in comparison.

Image of abandonment and decline at the heart of the tourist season. Toilets all dirty without the elementary and stuffed washbasins.

Roughly what you'd expect from a municipal airport in rural soviet union in the 1970s. Except for the prices which are all London 2016.

It is not a modern airport, I share the previous opinions on this point but to say that the organization is absent, I am not in phase. In addition, some comments stipulate that you should arrive 3 hours before, what interest since the Check-in is only displayed 2 hours before?
For me, everything went very well except for the fact that you have to put your suitcase down so that it is x-ray inspected ... a trifle.
The airport has been the subject of some works, including the setting up of shops. Things I was able to discover because I had at least one hour left before the boat.
I have known much worse in terms of organization (Catania in Sicily, without comment ...)
In conclusion, stay Zen .
NB: The trip was made in May and the flow of travelers was important.

Worst airport I ever visited. Organization is so bad, even in May the place is so crowded and the staff so unfriendly.
I brought my own soap with me because not a single restroom had soap... They are all so dirty that I would recommend this as a sightseeing spot...
The only positive thing is the new duty free area, which is again extremly crowded but you get water for 50 cent
