Bangladesh, this is the topic. A typical place where in the 80's it could have been modern, and now, well. And besides, I have never seen such a big cockroach live before. I am not afraid of worms, but as I saw it in the toilet, I ran screaming.

Terrible airport with terrible staff. Toilets are smelly no go areas. Queues idiot long by inefficient working staff. When we checked in a suitcase we were sent to another row 50 meters away after checking in - right through seven long queues of waiting people - where we had to go back to get him through an X-ray machine. Food is literally three times as expensive at the scarce sales points as elsewhere in Crete. Once through the metal gate, no departures are indicated anywhere on a central screen. No unoccupied chair to find, many people stand. In no time at all, inconceivable voice announcements allowed three queues to run through the whole departure hall simultaneously to another gate because of a last minute gate change. I saw suitcases from carts that were being driven to a plane, and then the driver drove over it. Once on the plane the crew thought it necessary to check whether everyone was in the right aircraft, because they too know how inefficient on this according to various websites the worst airport in Europe is crowned. Everywhere unfriendly staff who do not know anything, do not think along with you and you go wrong in the wrong direction. A bad ending to a beautiful holiday on a beautiful island.

Very quick check, no queues. Friendly staff. Obsolete, especially the entrance, but are completely renewing it. At gate B, unfortunately, very few shops and nothing to eat or drink. I think many people here also forget that if you go during a busy period it makes sense that there are long queues and that the staff doesn't like that either.

Never been in a more unclean public place ever. You are looking for a long time to find a towel, then you will be looking in there again for dope paper and not least a dose. Disgusting.

From the plane to the airport it was fast bus.
The airport is small and therefore clear, but a better signage would be desirable.
You should make all the toilets new! Toilet seat not available.
On our suitcases, we had to wait well 1 hour because there was another plane with on the tape on it. There are 4 luggage belts.
Tour operators are then directly opposite the exit.

Very bed and broken toilets, dirty and not fully functional. Really bad! Service takes so much time. Almost no place to sit and eat something. EU standard? I don t think so.

Really old airport. High prices and nasty toilets. Only a duty free shop... Security staff is unfriendly.

I was traveling from Heraklion ... I was disappointed in a very dirty place a month before the delivery to the toilets took place and all the faucets were broken .... from soap and paper ... they are probably unknown words they felt ashamed ...

Very small and very dirty. Signed is a smoking area that does not exist. Internet hotspot available, but not functional.

Absolute disaster, completely overcrowded, no organization at all, no seat, it is close to tight .... unbelievable .... here today .... unfortunately! Overcrowded, dirty and unfriendly staff at the security check no wonder that the tourism goes back to Crete .... others can do that much better

Bars cafes inside, restaurant on the ground floor and upstairs (correct price for an airport offers typical and classic meals)
Well served by taxi transport (15 for the city center and bus (less than 2 ).
Across the street from a lot of car rental agencies (example Surprise: not disappointed at all, very correct and professional)

An airport to avoid I m afraid. The signs are very poor. The whole place just needs a good deep clean. I don t think they have cleaned this airport floor in years. The gates are very small, no where to really sit or stand.
Duty free shops don t really exist.
Toilets are very dirty.
I would highly avoid visiting or flying from this airport.

Old airport from the 1980s last restored. Toilet without paper. Long waiting times for bus transfers.

Dirt, garbage, stray dogs ... what I saw inside the airport. It was successful that there is no smoking zone on the territory of the airport! On registration, the family and children were scattered in different places, at different ends of the plane. And so not only with us. People in the airplane were already changing places and sitting down with their own. It's stuffy in the halls, air conditioners do not work.

Check in and security quite fast, but the most expensive duty free shop i have ever seen. The rest can be called run down. In total, one of the uglier airports in this world

Airport too small for the large volume of flights departing and arriving in Heraklion. There are not enough seats in the waiting rooms. Crowd of people standing waiting for the flight. Dirty, disorganized, completely overcrowded with zero corona measures and outdated (was like traveling back in time) .. not a good advertisement for the island.

The arrival area is not very welcoming, small airport but very poorly arranged, very dirty toilets and often HS.
Initially, once past the control area, we finally see a little modernism and toilets are cleaner and better maintained.
Narrow aisles and a lot of noise.
Still a lot of improvement to do for this airport which is home to many tourists.

Chaotic , needs improvements , an old and dirty airport

Small airport, but everything ok The QR code is currently important. The corona testation right at the entrance upon arrival is frightening. The gentleman behind it scares children. But the suitcases came quickly too. Toilets very unclean and the building is so warm upon departure that waiting with a mask on is exhausting.

For a local airport, it is a good one. Has polite personal. Clean and safe.

The crowds could have been managed much better with COVID. There should be police fining everyone not complying with restrictions (not wearing masks) and less people should be put on a bus at a time. The lines at the gates are also overcrowded.

No clean washrooms during arrival, small airport serves well though.

Easily the worst airport I've ever visited. The place is old and crumbling, hot and over crowded. Without air-conditioning they have nerve charging 4 Euros for a bottle of drink, and don't think you can shop around, because there is just one extortionate franchise operating here.

Get a mop and a brush and give the place a clean please, at the very least. It might help keep the fly problem at bay.

Arrivals: the baggage was sent to a different area than what was displayed on the information screens, OK not that big of a deal, however the toilets did not have seats and no soap.

Departure: First we waited in a line OUTSIDE THE AIRPORT for 30 minutes, then we waited in a line inside to check in our baggage, and were told to go to a different line again to scan our luggage. This time the toilets did have soap, but the dispenser fell apart when i tried to use it spilling on me and the person washing their hands next to me (still no toilet seat). Most expensive taxfree i've ever been to. We walked around for another 30 minutes before finding free seats at the gates, at the opposite side of the airport to our gate. We arrived at this airport 4 hours before departure and had no time to spare. amazingly the flight took off on time.

TLDR: This airport is way over its capacity and desperately needs an upgrade.

There is no cafe where you can sit after passing the inspection, a terrible toilet (dirty) in the departure zone of sector B

Extremely dirty and stinking. There's money for the duty free zone, but there's no money to clean the toilets.
Tragedy

Too overcrowded. Too much people, too few free space for them. No air conditioners were observed. Not a pleasant place

I share the negative opinion of this airport. Hot, no air conditioning and dirt. Very rudimentary supply and outside air. Inside 32c outside 24. Service quite friendly.

The worst airport i've ever seen, even in Russia there is no airport like this. Angry people, no air at all, everything's veeeryyyy slooooowle, 1 open gate for all people. Everybody is late. My daughter was crying after one greece womam. So good contry, so poor and creepy airport.

No baby change tables, nothing to eat on arrival. Enterprise rental took over an hour

It doesn't get any worse. Toilets are in an unreasonable condition. Hardly any soap and / or disinfectant. Everything very tight and poorly ventilated. Much too small even in times of Corona, when fewer people are flying. Tragedy

A historical sight!

Anyone who has visited various historical ruins on Crete will not be disappointed here either!
The wonderful flair of the ancient world is authentically embodied in a round picture from the check-in and luggage drop-off to the gate.
If the planes were now flown with Fred Feuerstein propulsion, the picture would be perfect - hence only four stars.

Greek airport, it serves its purpose! Nothing special!

The airport is too small for the high season, but the staff is very friendly. The toilets are dirty but I think it's because of the antisocial behaviour of certain tourists, not because of a lack of cleaning.

Worst airport I've been to hands down, two petty food vendors which are extremely overpriced. Super rude employees and extremely dirty everywhere you look!

Good airport is very crowded in summer so there is nowhere to sit

Check in and departure hall way too small. Endless crowd. Queues at the checkouts of the duty free shop through half the shop. The only plus is the fast personal control.

I can not understand the very exaggerated reviews. The airport is overcrowded and the toilets are very, very dirty. But the air was not too stuffy, nor was the staff unfriendly. Delivery of the suitcases and check in completely normal .. everything done in 20 minutes, security check normal friendly and quick. After that it gets full .. has something of folk festival, but you get a decent opportunity to buy food and drinks and then it goes back home.

Worst airport!!! No air condition, almost no chairs, shops are crazy expensive ... I don't understand how in 2017 still can be airports like this one in the EU

Stood in this sweat pit right now. Badly organised, crammed with people spilling out into the heat. And the customer service? Beyond terrible....two airport staff just barged through the chaos....one screaming to the other "what the f is this sh.."

Totally outdated airport and not at all designed for this number of planes / tourists. Toilets all broken you can say. And .. if it is still surprising (see picture) that Corona has its run. Clearance for Munich, Stuttgart and Nuremberg. I bet the numbers there will increase by at least the number of flight passengers, yes cheers.

Pretty basic but no problems here at all, it was an easy and trouble free experience.

So unorganised. Left queuing for well over am hour in the heat. Something seriously needs to be done about this airport otherwise people will not continue to return!

Amazingly useless in all aspects of running an international airport. No common sense approach in existence. New airport director required. Please apply soon. Ask someone from Heraklion new bus station to run it.

India and Greece, in a joint deal, are building a new replacement airport, Kastelli International Airport. It should be ready by 2025

The airport is far too small for the number of tourists!
Corona precautions can be kinked ... no one keeps their distance just because of the mass. You just slide through the airport ...

In addition, there is no restaurant or the like .....

It is very well organized and well established airport. Without any questions you find everything you need. Cleanliness everywhere, helpful staff for what it takes. Of course, in some places there are some bad guys who spoil the calm image of many !!!

It definitely needs expansion and renovation. Passengers are increasingly increasing every tourist season! Do something because we have to have more and more tourists for the tourism industry to work and the job positions of Crete that are growing every year. Minister!

Airport looking like normal standard not high class, rest room so and all, parking average cleanliness, not so good.

To get to the plane you have to wait in queues about 2h. No organisation at all!

Old airport very poorly organized and not always very clean. Strongly building the new one.

Has improved a lot within three years:
- Better duty free shop
- Better organization
- Etc.
Is well suited for a tourist airport
