Airport which has been renovated and now meets standards. Access is easy. In this particular period of covid, it is pleasant because it is not very frequented.

bad organization of departures that time wasted, very bad .a avoid at all costs
surely a ball for the economy. tourist island of Crete
A very small and chaotic airport. Provision of information about your flight could be much better. There are two small TV screens with flight times in the large hall by the gates.
With us the information was in any case not correct. Asking for information from an employee is of no use since they barely speak English.
There is one large duty-free store behind customs. You can buy cigarettes here from as little as 35 euros per shoe.
You do have a pretty nice view of the planes.
Total and complete disaster - chaos in the departures area, no public WiFi, most staff doesn't speak English or speaks very little. Feels like South East Asia more than Europe..
Bad, not well-maintained airport. The building clearly requires restoration. In the hours of high load, there is a collapse at the airport.
Didn t really want to give the airport any stars at all , dirty , food and drink over over priced ( small bottle of fizzy water 4.40 ) a PA system that is so fuzzy you can t understand a word that s been said . Food choice very poor and food hard and stale . Hoping our flight is on time .
very dirty, especially the toilets and completely chaotic. Five incoming flights are handled on a luggage belt while the other belts are empty.
Also this Greek airport structure is very badly chaotic services poor reports scarce I understand that it is used mainly in the summer but with the embarking taxes collected they should offer better services.
Too bad for Heraklion ... places without air conditioning or with minimal in hot and cold weather
The absolute filthiest airport in Europe absolutely disgusting and outdated
My absolute favorite airport. Small, clear, romantic with retro charm. Easy to fall in love with and always worth a trip, in contrast to the new, sterile and identical looking newer airports.
This airport is still stuck in the '70 of the last century.
Arriving to it during a hot day and waiting for your suitcase can be a real ordeal if you suffer from heat. It seems to be very rural with people who can come and go as they wish from the baggage belt, I found it to be problematic with security.
Checking in - Waiting in line to check in baggage and then having to WAIT IN LINE FOR AN X-RAY? Is this a local innovation? Such a waste of time and energy...
Only one TV-screen for departures after going through security, not that much to do unless you're really hungry and pay at least 5 for a sandwich... With all the incoming tourism to Crete, they should really upgrade this airport.
So don't come to the airport hungry, bring a book or something to pass the time, pay attention to your gate since they tend to change gates in the last minutes and make sure the seat you plan on sitting is clean.
The airport should be completely renovated and v. A. to be cleaned !!!
Very bad ventilation, no toilet seats for men, toilets very dirty and sometimes unusable, same for sinks.
We were in Crete at the beginning of August and everything went fine until the time came to fly home on August 11 from this unfortunate Heraklion ... the airport is small and the people ... I can t say for sure but it feels like in the hall you enter from the street in the square about 200 m2 there are about 1000 people ... the hall is crammed with only small tracks of about 20 cm between endless lines ... the old airport cracks on the whitewashed walls ... the air conditioners seem to work but with such heat +36 and with such a quantity people they can t do. There s nowhere to sit a single chair and bench, and it s clear where to put them (((people with young children were sitting on the stairs (((our flight was delayed for 2 hours and the boarding gate was indicated. So we sent it through this gate while waiting 2 airplanes ((I have one question for the flight coordinators and the airport management: why is this attitude towards people? We flew with a one-year-old child, these few hours at the airport were hell for me ((((Of course I won t go there anymore and I think not one I. I do not care about people. Why plan more than you can send and service? short in Heraklion in August is off limits))) I hope that it is only in August because of the large number of tourists and irresponsible attitude towards people from Heraklion ...
Heavily outdated, very crowded, very dirty.
No smoking area, no possibility to eat something normal, not overly expensive or to drink
You can not expect the sanitary facilities.
I would like to know where the employees go to the toilet or go smoking
Never again fly from this airport
If I could give it zero stars I would. Poorly maintained bathrooms. Appalling communication when it comes to delayed flights, I was sent to three different gates before they made up their minds. Terrible airport. Wish I d taken the ferry back to Athens.
Terrible staff, too small terminals and unhygienic toilets. The waiting seats are not comfortable and the restaurant choices are not up to par.
Catastrophic conditions in the departure area. Check in and check was OK. But the departure area? Half of the people present would have been too much. Hardly air conditioning. Catastrophe!
0 stars would actually be right for this airport.
Unfortunately, there are not even enough seats for the many tourists in the waiting areas. It is correspondingly long in a small space, the climate in the terminal hall is almost unbearably warm and it is so loud and everywhere so dirty that it smells unpleasant in many places and you can hardly talk properly.
Horrible. Unhealthy. Hateful staff. Dutyfree more expensive than any small local shop.
Small airport. Check-in effective. Passage to security quite fast.
A small, nice airport, short distances, nice staff. Suitcases came super quickly. Controls completely problem-free. Show the QR code and you're done.
As for Greece and in addition the island is nice and not tiny. Affordable prices. Toilets ... better not to enter. The rest can be - service quite efficient
Not like in the main season, very well organized and smooth flow without corona stress!
Messy, disorganised and run down. Some of this is the fault of the airlines rather than the airport but it is still unbelievable. The cost of drinks beyond the security gates is extortionate. My advice would be to bring water and stay the Crete side of the border until the latest possible time.
the most terrible airport in the world. everything was worsen than other airports. staff were not professional & worked so slow. they had also unfreindly behavior.
the toilets in the airport were so dirty.
these are two examples about what was going rhere.
i like to know that what does the director of airport do? i am sorry for him/her & also the company who is running it.
I traveled to many countries and had the service of many different airports but whiteout a doubt this is the worst airport I've ever seen in my whole live. No organisation no system long time waiting many unfriendly workers dirty old toilets . In my opinion the only solution brake down and rebuild a modern airport. Take an example to similair large airports like Eindhoven, Dortmund, Bodrum.
This airport doesn t deserve even one Star - the rudest people without manners!!!! Never again.
Small, hot and very old. It s nearly impossible to find someone to ask anything. Dont t come to early there is no where to spent time
The staff were really nice but the airport could well use a renovation
In the departure lounge, with such a large number of visitors, they could expand
Old.
When will new ones open?
No worries with this airport, places are dipso outside.
Very small airport. To obtain your luggage, there is poor informations: they change the belt without any notice on the microphone. There is few sits. The airport is dirty. But then, it is very easy to find a taxi, or bus, or transfer place for the resort. To reach the city center, you should prefer the bus (1,20euro and 15 min) than the taxi (20 euro and 15 min). Bus driver are very very helpful. To find bus station, just cross the parking!! It is very easy
Prety good airport, big duty free shop, but only one. There is a lot of place to sit and wait your plain, and view trough windows is very nice.
Nice and small, quick delivery of luggage, everything went well with the hotel transfer, - buses are in front of the entrance, very friendly staff
Everything went smoothly .... also with the QR code .... but nothing to scan with .... the numbers under the code are decisive .... definitely ....
Would love to give 0 points. I have not been to every airport in the world but I am sure that this is the worst on this planet. Organization only chaos and thousands of people who are wildly confused and wait for hours at the entrance to the gates, of course, hours of delays. People who don't come to their flight. AND THE END OF SEPTEMBER THEN IT WAS THEN JULY AND AUGUST ???
Worst conditions. Too bad because the island of Crete is beautiful and can only be recommended. And the Greeks are a very nice people.
This is not an airport. It is a large waste bin where 1535 was built.
The toilets have NO conditioner !!!
We were here early in the day and that makes a difference. It was busy on average but could check in quickly. Suitcases were taken in the same place. Then we were allowed to queue for customs. This progressed quickly with 3 gates open. The employees were quick and nice. After the check, there is a large duty free shop with all kinds of products. There is a waiting area after the shop that was pretty full. There is not enough seating there but there is also an upper floor that was quiet. I can understand that when you come at a busy time of the day everything does not run as you expect. Did not visit the toilet because the line was too long.
Very slow service. Took us one hour to pass passport control
it is good airport but swiss001 said that airport is not good airport why explain that !!!
Scrap organization !!! Delay 2 hours ... Nobody knows what, where and when
Outdated, not designed to accommodate millions of tourists, dirty toilets, sometimes without toilet paper or with doors that do not close ...
Full disaster ... absolutely overcrowded, no organization, much too small.
There are certainly more modern airports in the EU. Waiting time at the baggage check and security check was short.
Wish I could give this place zero stars. What a dirty smelly and horrible airport. Disgusting
Small Airport but with good logistics. Getting your luggage very fast and you will find where you have to go because of useful signs.
When you are lookin for the most stressful and the most unfriendly workers that scream at you..
You are proudly welcome at Iraklio Airport! Some of them almost killed people with their stares.
The worst Airport ive ever been too.
Unfortunately, the airport in the high season is packed. It is time that the new airport is finally built.
Very rude staff at security on departure. Don't care about fragile personal belongings and even proud to say so.
The airport is incredibly small and stuffy. Very few toilets lacking basic items such as paper or soap. In addition, no smoking room.
perilous
The airport is completely undersized for the tourist crowd. The escalator from the airfield to baggage reclaim can quickly become a terrible trap. If passengers are jammed in the upper area and new on the escalator from below, then it can lead to falls and injuries due to the backwater. By acting courageously worse could be prevented. No security personnel anywhere. The luggage is distributed without system on the four luggage belts. Probably tourism is the main source of income in Crete. Then such a dangerous "airport" is a bottomless insolence.
If I could give 0 stars I would have given 0 sorry but I strongly advise against this airport. The toilets are very dirty, no information about departure times, unfriendly staff, ...
The most inefficient, ineffective and ridiculous airport processes I have ever experienced, and I travel a lot to 3rd world countries. Despite you checked in electronically prior to the flight you still have to go to the check in counter for your luggage as x-rays doesn't have a printer. You the go to x-rays as check in cannot process the luggage. About 40 people in front of me in the queue, processing time about 105 minutes. What a joke in 2018!
Too small to serve so many people .... Heraklion needs a much larger airport
A good airport but when we had "Congratulations you won a pepsi."
The Staff at the Everest Bar just said
No! It is pretty expensive at Everest Bar Too there are shops upstair
If you could give 0 stars, that would be the right rating for this place! Chaotic baggage claim, crowds crowding through and we do not want to speak of the toilets. The departure area is also crowded / overstrained.
It has changed a lot since my last flight, but there are still major flaws in the toilet facilities, it is quite chaotic, at check-in you get a gate and shortly before boarding the gate is changed.
We have not experienced any bad experiences at this airport. Everything went normally. Not super fast but certainly not slow.
No problem for me, other people retain only the negative and that's typical French!
Old, small, narrow airport with little offer, for being a tourist hotspot!
Unconditioned departure gates, quite outdated, unfortunately negative experience
Really unacceptable conditions against the background of Covid
Check-in without problems, especially in times of "viral".
Very chaotic, no distance possible as it was completely overcrowded.
It is a small airport and a bit disorganized: unclear and chaotic indications. The check-in counter weighs the suitcases, applies the adhesive, but then you have to go to another gate for X-ray inspection. The flight timetable information did not seem up to date. For the rest, ok!
Airport is getting old, should certainly be renovated
