Great place to adopt a pet, volunteer, and get low cost vaccinations and spay/neuter your pets!
Katherine there was so helpful. I was looking for a match to my current dog and she took the time to talk about each dogs disposition until we found the right one!!! Animals are family: they are for life!
Awesome place. Great people helping mans best friend on his journey home.
My poor dog got out and I couldn't find him anywhere. I got a tip that my pup was at this center. I called and sure enough he was there. The people there were so very nice and extremely helpful. They seem to be as concerned as I was. I highly recommend looking there if your going to adopt a fur baby.
Got me a dog me and & my son love him . he's learned to live respectable our bear
HSSA is a great place that provides a lot of resources to the community. I didn't realize just how much until I started volunteering. The staff and volunteers are amazing. Highly recommend!
We found our second love after our first one passed. Rescue not retail.
A caring place for animals. The workers and volunteers are wonderful and helpful.
Was looking for a puppy or Sheltie to adopt. Fortunately there were not many choices. The facility was clean and animals seemed to well cared for.
This is one of the best non-profit locations in town. They treat the animals very nicely and all proceeds in their store go straight back to taking care of their animals. They let you put animals on hold for up to 8 hours or technically 1 business day.
This was my first time at a shelter. I am SO glad that I chose Hermitage. This was a great experience. We added a beautiful princess to our family and she is a PERFECT fit!
I take my fur baby here for her annual shots. Only $50.00 for all her shots. Get to their shot clinic early and be prepared to wait!
The staff was friendly and accommodating. They knew what they were doing!
They are doing as well as they can with the funding they have. Please donate!
Extremely affordable. I took my cat there to get nueter the procedure itself was quick . it was the wait time in line that's off putting.
They where friendly over thebphone and directed me to what i needed.
I've visited this location at least 30 times! And must have called 60-70!
I lost my cat in Tucson last year and looked high and low across Tucson and Interwebs. I found the majority of people I spoke to over the phone at this Human Society on the majority of occasions to be unhelpful, unfriendly and occasionally short. There were only a handful of times when I called for specifics on Stray Black Cats (like mine) brought in, that I would be met with a nice and actually helpful person on the other line of the phone.
( The process was all that more difficult because he was a black cat and thorough details are needed to describe a Black cat (!) and very few we're provided online and when I would call in, which seemed like daily)
While I never found my baby boy, I am still thankful for the occasional smile and extra step a few went for me and my daughter's during this tough process.
Please remind your employees that not every person walking through the door is having a great day. Some of us are heartbroken and in search of our lost loving companions.
A little Compassion goes a long way. And Please provide more details in your lost pets section of your website.
And I am only writing this in hopes that you may find some areas of improvement. In hopes that it will help others have a better chance of finding their lost pets.
Thanks
In January of this yr, we were advised by the store people at the Park Place Mall that the Humane Society had a special dog of Chow mix, which we were looking for. The next morning we went to the shelter and fell in love with who they called Parrot. We have had him ever since and wouldn't trade him for all the tea in china. He has come a long ways from when he got here. His sister and him r great friends and very playful. Joe which we named him, loves to b petted & loved on. He loves going for walks with us.
I love my new friend Bella. Her and I have become the very best of friends. I found joy in watching her discover everything around her that she has not seen. She has been a kitten in the Humane society. And has grown up to be an adult cat. My choice to get an adult cat. Was to rescue her and to give her the very best of her last year's. Now she can be free to be a cat. I also buy my supplies at the Humane society. Because all proceeds go directly to the other animals in the Humane society. Thank you for helping me find my best friend
We have recently adopted our 3rd dog from here. They always do an excellent job taking care of their animals, and making sure you adopt an animal that is the right fit for yourself family.
I've hardly ever felt so unwelcome at a business. The staff seemed very snobbish and unhelpful and come across as not wanting people to adopt pets. We definitely won't be returning or considering any animals from the humane society in the future.
I think they are amazing, what they do and having so much to do, they are doing wonderful being so busy, I'm very thankful for their service and I'm going to use their service again soon.... thank you.
New facilities on Roger Rd are really modern and even more humane than their old location. Their old location was already better conditions than PACC's old buildingn and their new building is better conditions than PACC's new building. Affordable adoption prices. Not as many cats and dogs as PACC, but often more non-bully breed dogs. Also, they often have other small animals asside from cats, which PACC never has. Right now they've got several geese, several chickens (roosters and a pullet hen), and a rat. I have recently seen some rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets, but they seem to always get adopted quickly so visit regularly!
The people here are so kind and compassionate! Thank you for helping my family.
I volunteer at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. I also adopted two young cats from there, a year apart. The HSSA offers many services for our animal friends. This is a very worthwhile non-profit organization to support.
My wife and I wanted to adopt another kitten. The minute this old biddy in the cat room heard that we let our cats out into a fenced yard because they prefer that to a litter box, she ran to the manager and we were refused the adoption. This is the same shelter where four years ago my wife and I adopted two 8 week old kittens. I've been living in the same location since 1985. It seems the fence doesn't matter because owls can swoop down at night and grab a meal. At least that's the way this woman's mind set works. It didn't matter that we also have a large patio and the cats never even want to go out at night. But I should adopt a kitten and expect it to spend it's whole life closed in four walls. Sure, the world's a terrible place but should I give my pet a life sentence in solitary because of it? Get realistic, lady!
After careful deliberation we have decided to rescind our donation of land in the Three Points area to the HSSAZ upon our passing.
Have our forever kitty. Very Friendly and efficient staff.
Beautiful place for adoptable pets
waiting for forever homes
Very knowledgeable about what animals they have. They didn't have a dog that met our needs but were very friendly.
You and your pet are treated with respect when its the end.
They are so helpful to people who need to get their animals fixed.
So fresh and so clean, I just wanna shnuggy wuggy all the wittle fuzzy wuzzies I WUV THEM!!!
Dogs where taken care of,the workers there are nice and helpful
Their did and cats are cute, but they pick the pretty ones from PACC
Except for getting my little Bianca's last name wrong the took good care of her and us. Bianca was laid to sleep 24 August 2020
Stopped by to donate a bunch of dog beds & other items. Staff was super friendly and accommodating - they even helped me unload my car. We adopted our dog from the Humane Society 7 years ago - he is the best dog ever and we are forever grateful to the Humane Society for him. We live too far to volunteer, so we help when we can by donating items for other pets in need while they await their forever home.
Euthanasia is never easy. We are grateful for all of the staff's professionalism and kindness during this difficult time.
This is one of the better humane societies I've seen. Lots of community events and volunteer opportunities
Attended the open house on Roger Road today. What a remarkable facility; it's a wonderful improvement after 70 years. A big Thank-You to all the staff, volunteers, and donors who made this event possible. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the facility.
Staff did a fantastic job everything went smoothly very happy with experience
I love this organization. You could start with them when you want to adopt a pet for you or your family. They care.
Great staff, good animals, I will definitely be going back for another Kitty.
Loved the tour. Had to stop myself from adopting 2 or three more dogs.
My Bandit was at the end of his journey. I left him in their hands to send him off for the next part of his journey. They handled him and us with great care. Thank you for your professionalism and kindness during this challenging time.
Very nice and spacious. Animals well taken care of. Friendly and helpful staff.
Staff is wonderful! Kristine helped me find foster family for my pets at the last minute.
Great staff very helpful when adopting are forever doggie....takeing Doug the pug home happy boy!!!
Their new facility is really nice. The staff is professional and caring and they offer a lot of services at the clinic as well as pet adoption.
Friendly and caring staff who want to help you find the perfect pet for lifestule.
My husband and I adopted our kitty boy at the La Encantada location about 2 years ago. We LOVE our boy. The adoption staff was very nice. I wish that they would talk more about their main location where there are more adoptable cats and dogs.
I adopted a dog at the Miracle on Congress event. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The process was really fast and a month later our now 9 month old puppy is fully integrated into our family. The kids and George Clooney (now Leo) have an absolute blast together!
This is a great place for most of your pet related needs!
I have a pug I adopted from there in 2010 who is awesome.
They just within the last few months moved to the brand new, custom designed home on Roger Road. Now they have room for everyone's needs.
A store with everything you need for a new pet including educational materials, seperate sections for dog and cat kennels set up for the animals comfort & well being, stress free meeting areas for adoption introduction, a great play area & seperate training areas, seperate surrender, service & adoption. I had to use the end of life service recently & was treated with caring & respect.
On site Vet services for the furbabies who are in need of some medical treatment as well as spay/neuter & microchip service.
Friendly, knowledgeable people who are working or volunteers.
Also off-site stores at Park Place & La Encantada with adoption available and a Thrift resale shop with some great deals.
Donations are always welcome as are those who have time and interest in volunteering!

I highly recommend this shelter whatever your needs may be!
they said if our dog didn't do good with males they were going to uthinize him. needless to say we didn't leave him there .
I hate when the put animals down.
the world is so full of cats and dogs that the shelters are full.
please spay or neuter your animals.
You are animal killers like humanity? What humanity is it to think you decide as if you were God himself to take the life of a poor young and loving dog just because you according to your criteria was aggressive ... that dog never hear well he never bit or had a bad behavior with anyone ... We took him to find out of love and we believed that they would take care of him and give him love and what my poor Louie found was death, murderers, my husband had been unemployed for 3 months looking for and we had no way to feed him well and we took him there because you they love life and are the voice of animals. Which voice is that? ... result that in less than two weeks they decide that a dog that is not a pit bull is dangerous and they kill him my husband called to ask for him and you lie to assassins my 3 children cry and cry and you Laban them hands saying that we left it ayi !!!!
Stop going to breeders and give a dog a home! Don't forget to spay and neuter!!
They did a magnificent spay job on my lil pupper. No post-op issues whatsoever. They're organized and kind.
I love this place but I want to take them all home. Please support this great organization.
This was the second shelter I went to solely based off of location and I wish I would've came here first. The staff was phenomenal!! Facility was beautiful and spotless!! I was beyond thrilled looking for a new little friend there! I found my dog Layla there and being that I'm a college student I explained my situation and they helped me find the dog that was best for my lifestyle and they did a fabulous job!! I am beyond happy with the little girl that I got, she is my love!!<3 I can't thank the humane society of southern Arizona enough for gracing me with her!! Thank you so much!!
I love how the employees treat my pets that get neutered here. Was very difficult to make the appointments. I had to just go in finally because i could not get through over the phone.
This place is a great place i think that these people are so nice to come to wotk every day to take care of the animals.there.
They didn't call me back. When I went in they told me there were dogs that were small. Not one. Sad
Called me back promptly, and were very kind. Much more helpful than I had even hoped for! Truly wonderful people.
The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA) is a non-profit organization that has been serving the community since 1944. With over 75 years of experience, HSSA has become a trusted resource for pet owners in the Southern Arizona region. The organization's mission is to promote responsible pet ownership and improve the lives of animals through advocacy, education, and support.
HSSA offers a wide range of services to help pets and their owners. One of their most popular programs is adoption. HSSA takes in thousands of animals each year and works tirelessly to find them loving homes. They have an extensive screening process for potential adopters to ensure that each animal goes to a safe and caring home.
In addition to adoption services, HSSA also provides low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for pets in need. This program helps reduce the number of unwanted litters and ultimately saves lives by preventing overcrowding in shelters.
HSSA also offers behavior training classes for dogs with behavioral issues such as aggression or anxiety. These classes are taught by certified trainers who use positive reinforcement techniques to help dogs overcome their challenges.
For pet owners who are struggling financially, HSSA has a Pet Assistance Program that provides food, supplies, and medical care for pets in need. This program helps keep families together during tough times by ensuring that they can still provide for their furry family members.
One unique aspect of HSSA is their partnership with local schools through their Compassion Education Program. This program teaches children about responsible pet ownership, animal welfare issues, and empathy towards all living beings.
Overall, The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is an invaluable resource for pet owners in the region. Their commitment to improving the lives of animals through education, advocacy, and support sets them apart from other organizations. If you're looking for assistance with your furry friend or want to make a difference in your community's animal welfare efforts - look no further than HSSA!
