The receptionist wasn't wearing her mask correctly (nose not covered) and the lobby chairs were not cleaned between people. The tech was friendly and punctual, and kept us informed. The wait was not too long. But they were not sending texts like the sign said. Fortunately I heard my name called from inside my car, otherwise I'd have missed my turn.

Right now there are 85 animals needing medical care here so if you are surrendering a pet, they cannot take any animal with medical needs it is 6/13/18. They need more funding, more fosters more everything. They are kind folks but there just aren t enough resources to go around.

Yes the staff can be rude but adopted our corgi mix a little over a year ago and he's been great. We didn't have to wait over an hour to go back and see the animals we just walked in and they let us right back.mwithin minutes we were outside meeting with Biscuit and wishing 30 minutes we had paid and filled out all the paperwork. The place was pretty clean and it was lunch time for the dogs. We got there when they first opened and it was relatively slow in terms of people looking to adopt. We go back every year for his shots which yes is a long process for the free vaccinations and employees are a bit grouchy... Kind of understandable with so many people coming in for shots. Biscuit wasn't sick when we got him they said he was a stray and had limited information. He does seem to have a problem with one of his legs but it doesn't hinder him in any way and has been no extra medical fees for us. Found out he was very well trained in terms of house training and tricks. I was surprised by there limited number of animals. There was only about 30 of them there when we went. With how they complain of over crowding I expected them to be more packed like pacc but they weren't.

I failed to post my experience from March 2020. We adopted "Spanky" a goofy, but lovable Queensland hound/Great Dane mix. Travis K. was our Humane Society ambassador. Travis was top notch in helping us find our next family member, and while Spanky was my second choice, he was so meant to be for us! Little did I know how quickly I would fall for this guy. His name only lasted a day before my wife and daughter renamed him Archie. So fitting a name for so human an animal. Of the eight dogs I have had, none have been so affectionate as Archie.

I could not be happier with the staff, especially Travis, at HSSA. All friendly, all professional, all truly dedicated to taking care of abandoned animals and finding forever homes for them.

Because your facility won't take questions via phone, I've made several wasted long trips out to you to find out the pet I was interested in, and you advertised, was no longer available. Here's a thought..how about just posting a brief notice on your website for those who are not technology challenged? I totally understand that your facility is short on volunteers and can't answer phones, but even adopting a pet isn't free for the public. I honestly have started looking for other alternatives when adopting, and haven't made any donations lately, because the service at your facility is subpar, in my opinion.

Unfortunately my experience wasn't good, I went in trying to adopt a dog and there was only 1 person around and she was busy helping another family and I asked to get a dog out and they told me I couldn't until I filled out paperwork and got approved but there was no one around "qualified to do that" I waited and waited and with no help went to pacc and easily adopted the greatest dog ever.

This shelter used to take all homeless companion animals - they never, ever turned one away. NOW, they claim they are "no-kill," which means, they only take what they deem "adoptable" companion animals. They are not no-kill, but limited intake. That's why I don't support them anymore. Too bad they turned into this...

Fast, efficient and professional service. I adopted our Pom yesterday and they were thorough and very, very great. Pets deserve a lifetime commitment. Thank you to Devon and the wonderful staff!

Stopped by yesterday (7/13) to look at a dog, but they told my wife and I that the dog we were stopping by to see was in need of medical attention and we couldn't see the dog. Also, they were closing for a special event so we couldn't look at any of the other dogs. So we returned to day, and as we were walking through, we see the dog that we were interested in, but the same person told us, dog needs medical attention. The staff person left us alone to look at the other dogs, none of which were right for us or our dog so we decided to say goodbye to the dog we wanted to adopt. As we walked up to the kennel to say goodbye to that dog another staff member said they were getting ready to show the dog we were interested in to a family. Apparently there was no medical condition. What a waste of our time.

We had a wonderful adoption experience here. The staff was knowledgeable and kind. A young lady named Taylor helped us pick the perfect little dog and we couldn't be more grateful. My vet checked him over and he is exactly as represented. We are so pleased and he is fitting right into our family.

Thank you so much Humane Society and Taylor for your commitment and caring. Our new little love is just what we needed to help heal our hearts after losing our old boy. You guys are the best! Ramses (formerly Batusi) thinks so too!

My Baby who was almost 15 had to be put to sleep. They were kind and loving, when I was a mess. Do wish they would have a separate room for people who are putting there pet to sleep. Very hard crying and being upset with others staring at you who are in there for other reasons. They need a bereavement room. I love the kind, caring staff.

I recently visited here because I had to surrender some of my 4-legged babies due to moving and the new living conditions. The experience was depressing, thank you folks at the Humane Society for your kindness, compassion and professionalism.

Great place to get a kitten to senior cat or puppy to senior dog. Life long friends are waiting to be adopted to forever homes. Please go check the little and big, young and old cats and dogs that are waiting to love you in return.

One word...Diva. I have a senior dog, sadly we ve been trying to place him for adoption for a long time for very delicate family reason, this place was our last hope. I got an appointment, I arrived very on time, we wait and wait and wait... the person or doctor who will check him was on a surgery, but I decided to wait since I came from Benson, so is not like I can return tomorrow again. I was there for about 2 hours (with my baby and daughter) and at the end personnel tells me the doctor is off the surgery but is tired so she will not look at him! Even worst they won t even consider fostering!, was turn down without a look, so unprofessional, to me that s not caring, this is a very beloved dog, part of our family for a long time and we came to this heartbreaking decision to keep him safe, but I guess senior dogs really don t have choices. Front desk lady was so nice while we waited but that doctor was a diva.

I went to the shelter today to simply look at cats, not to adopt. I said I wanted to look at one specifically, though, and the volunteer had me fill out an adoption application though I told her I wouldn't be adopting today. So I was patient and filled it out anyway. Another volunteer looked it over and saw that it was only me in the apartment with no other animals. She said (in an accusing tone) "so what do you think this kitten is gonna do when you're gone?" I was baffled by the question. She said "we're just trying to match you to the right animal." I told her that I understood, but I wasn't going to adopt right away, that I was just looking and filling out the application seemed a little silly to me. She said (again accusingly) "so you just want to hold a cat...?" I was so flustered and frustrated that I immediately turned around and left. The volunteer called after me "you should just come back when you're ready to adopt." NO THANK YOU. I will not be coming back to the Humane Society of SoAZ, nor will I be adopting an animal from your shelter if the staff is putting down their customers.

I went in today 3/23/13 to leave a stray for adoption. It was a very difficult decision because she is a very well behaved and sweet dog and I wanted reassurance that I would be contacted if she not adopted because I would come back for her as a last resort. It was a busy day there, they had a food truck rally and adoption discounts, so it was really hectic. The young woman who took the information was nice and professional and did say that they make every effort to place them in good homes and the only reason they would consider euthanasia is for behavioral or health problems. I know the white shepherd mix is neither, she's the sweetest dog I've ever met. I would've kept her but work, my little chug and five cats (all rescues) have me pretty busy. But I would rather keep her then have her put down, that would be a crying shame. I will write back with what happens as I will be calling in 72 hours to check if she's been moved to the adoption area. **Note- you do have to pay $35 to the shelter but it is worth it I believe. I want her to have the best chance at a great forever home, and nowadays, $35 barely buys a large bag of good dog food.

If you're trying to relinquish a pet ( my mother passed away and we had to give up her cat) they will only intake prime pets, not old and in great health. Don't waist your time, go to PAC, they took her cat in with very little trouble and got her adopted within a week.

Just try to get a hold of them.

Just try to get a hold of them.
My adoptive dog was spayed at the clinic. On the way out they noticed her suters were coming undone so they used staples. I returned 2 weeks later to have them removed only to discover after a month that a piece of one was left in. Once again they went thru the entire incision cutting her open as if she was re spayed. Are they practicing vets there or incompetent students? Now I can't get an appointment to get the suters out!!!

This is one of the nicest shelters that I have visited. The animals are well cared for. The kennels are cleaned. They get the dogs out for daily walks. The cats have toys and volunteers for social interactions.

Terrible awful I felt really bad about leaving two adorable pugs I found running down Glenn. I was treated as a criminal being reminded they are a KILL SHELTER. And then trying to extract money for the drop off. I pray the owner finds there sweet babies ASAP. I ask where does the HUMANITY come into play. Who are the real animals not the babies I dropped off but the worker's.

I do love getting sheltered animals anywhere actually the only one thing I did not like about the Humane Society was when it was time to euthanize my pet because of old age and medical problems you are way too high on your price it shouldn't cost you that much to put down your loved animal even the lady I spoke with at the Humane Society set to try Pima Animal Control because they are only $15 as opposed to 115 at the Humane Society other than that you're doing a great job and service 4 unwanted or abandoned animals all mine are rescues

Not a true nonprofit. Staff is hit or miss and their pricing is equal or more expensive then regular vets! Please use no kill shelters that don't milk and guilt the community and over charge people for services for a loved one!

The new facility is a great upgrade. The low cost shot clinic is a good value. If visiting expect to arrive early, and understand there will be a wait. Lobby seating is limited but there are plenty of benches in the outside area. Bring extra water for you and your pet. The staff is friendly and the process is effecient.

The kennels are always so clean and the dogs are always so happy and healthy. The staff blows me away how involved they are with the animals. It's so wonderful to j the love and caring in their voice. If thry say they wish that they could take all the animals home with them. They mean it.

Beautiful new facility with lots of natural light for animals and humans alike. Great setup for dogs with indoor/outdoor access, "cat-io" setups for the felines to be able to enjoy a view of the outdoors and socialize with other friendly cats, even a special place for pocket pets and birds! Please go here to get your next fur-ever friend, or to pick up a special toy or accessory for the furbaby you already own.

I brought my 14yo puppy in to be euthanized. The staff were very friendly, sympathetic, and accommodating. My only complaint is that they dont allow pet owners to stay with their pets to the end. I had intended to have it done at home. We had the doctor picked out and were going to set an appointment for next week. Friday I came home to find he had deteriorated to the point we couldn't wait any longer. He was in too much pain and couldn't even get up to use the bathroom without being lifted and supported. So we made an appointment for the next morning. Either it wasn't mentioned on the phone, (in fairness I did not ask) or in my grief I did not hear it mentioned that I could not stay with him. I understand the drugs used for euthanasia are controlled substances and that a non-profit organization like The Humane Society is likely to have more addicts bringing their pets in because of how much less expensive it is. I still think some way could be adopted to allow for owners to be there to comfort their departing family, even if only until after they have been anesthetized. I think it's cruel to force that separation. I know I was completely gutted when they told me in the office, and I'm sure any loving pet owners would want to comfort their pets at the end of their lives.
Please consider finding some way, a partition of some sort, hole in the wall to the next room where you can slide their head through to their family once you have the on the stretcher, anything. I'm heartbroken that I couldn't be there for him until his last moments and I have no doubt he would have been more comfortable with my presence. I know the staff is caring, I could see that. But I also know that a piece of my heart spent his last moment scared, alone, and wondering where I was, and that hurts
