The staff is nice but they don't have very many options if you have young kids almost all of their dogs have restrictions on them. Me and my boyfriend when here with his son just to see how to dog we wanted would act around him and even though he was a sweetheart around him they said they still weren't comfortable and let someone else adopt him

Great cause but I just adopted a cat and have had nothing but problems. They sent him home with earmites and didn't tell me had them. They told me he was dewormed and I found worms. They told me he was told years old but my vet says he's probably closer to a kitten and I DID NOT WANT A KITTEN. They have a very quick turnover rate of animals and this causes a lot of problems that the owner has to deal with.

Very clean place. The staff and volunteers clearly care a lot about all the animals and are very knowledgeable. Adopting a cat was a smooth process and a staff member gave us great details on cat ownership.

Professional and loving environment. They are extremely busy on account of being so humanitarian, but if they make you an appointment they will call you the day before to remind you. Doctors and desk staff are caring and attentive, prices are fair - much lower than what my local city vet likes to charge. They prepare you for life care costs, don't try to jump you with 3-4 expenses at once. Highly recommend.

Unbelievably disappointed in the fact that you posted adoptions for pitbull puppies at 11am, my wife and daughter drove an hour and arrived an hour early only to ve devastated by the fact that all the puppies were claimed. Completely unprofessional and misleading by your staff!! If all puppies were claimed it should have been posted ahead of time!!!

My first experience adopting from a shelter was very positive. My friend and I were allowed to interact with the kittens carefully. When I arrived to pick up my kitten a week later, the lady who helped me explained everything fully, answered all my questions, and didn t rush me. My little girl is now 1 year old and happy as can be.

I hadn t been to the Huron Valley Humane Society since their remodel. Beautiful facility! I took my cat to get her spayed. Friendly staff, quick procedure and the best price in town. Every other veterinarian I called was booked until June(I made the appointment mid March) AND charged anywhere from $500-$750!! I couldn t bear going through another heat cycle with my kitty so I called HVHS. They originally scheduled her for end of April. I called a few weeks later and they were able to get her in 2 weeks sooner due to a cancellation. Thank goodness!

My mom and I were forced by my dad to give up our pit bull Princess. We were told at first that we couldn't bring her there, but they understood we had nowhere to take her so they took her in. It took about 3 weeks before she was adopted out and 1 week before my dad left the family.

Volunteering here is such a rewarding experience. Everyone I have worked with so far, staff and other volunteers included, has been so friendly and accommodating to me as a new volunteer. The facility is clean and well-kempt. The animals have (mostly) generously-sized cages compared to other shelters I've seen. I have enjoyed all of my experiences at HSHV thus far. You would be hard-pressed to find another shelter to top this one. Come give our furry friends a forever home :)

This is one of the best animal shelters out there. Period. I am a dog person so I come here more for the dogs than anything else and this review will focus on the Humane Society's dog program. This shelter treats their animals with extreme love and care. All of the dog cages are very spacious and have an indoor and outdoor area separated by a doggie door. The dogs are free to choose whether they want to hang out inside or outside. The staff members always make sure that the dogs have plenty of blankets, toys, and food. While you are looking around, there are small treat buckets hanging outside their cages so you can feed the dogs a couple of treats as you walk by. There is a trail outside for you to walk dogs that you are interested in meeting and adopting. Their website is also updated constantly so if you want to know which animals are at the shelter, you can always check online. One of my favorite things about this shelter is their Love Train program. About twice a month, they bring a bunch of puppies from different shelters across the South up to Michigan and make them available for adoption. About every other Friday, HSHV puts those puppies up for adoption and they are usually all adopted within the week. There is usually a line on those days and they only allow a few people to meet the puppies at a time, so people get to HSHV early to get tickets so they can be one of the first to choose from the adoptable puppies. The adoption prices are very very reasonable and I am perfectly fine with paying even more money since I know all of the great things they are doing here. My girlfriend and I adopted a dog who had heartworm from here in September and HSHV paid for the entire heartworm treatment, which costs a couple thousand dollars. We just had to pay for a few of his pills and the vet visits, which totalled to under $100 dollars. I absolutely love this place and will come here to adopt my pets for the rest of my life.

Update 7/15/17: After leaving a review, the HSHV provided contact information for the COO, Matt. Matt was understanding of our dismay and frustration and took the necessary steps to address the adoption procedures and Parvo notification/risk explanation protocol on the front end. Additionally, the HSHV is working to form a relationship with an ER vet/hospital so that newly-adopted animals and owners are not at a loss when the HSHV is closed (as it was on 7/4 when our dog fell ill). I applaud Matt's efforts, genuine understanding, and quick action. I understand that our situation was likely uncommon, but scary and frustrating nonetheless. It seems as though Matt truly prides customer service values as well as a safe and smooth adoption process: I believe Matt worked to the best of his ability to improve our experience to the fullest of his abilities and thank him for helping to rectify the situation. The puppy is fully recovered!

Original Review (shortened due to character limits):

I'm shocked & appalled at the recent "service" we received at the HSHV. While their hearts might be in the right place I do not have one positive thing to say about my experience or the risk they put on my dog and other families' pets. We adopted a puppy last week on Friday 6/30/17. While I am confident that I will care for the dog the "adoption process" was so fast and they didn't bother to verify ANYTHING about us prior to sending us home with a dog.

During the adoption meeting the young man reviewing our paperwork kept talking to us about CAT-care when we were adopting a dog. When we made it clear we were not adopting a dog, he kept saying he said "such a long day" & rushed through the rest of the paperwork. He BRIEFLY mentioned that our dog might have been exposed to Parvo, gave us a piece of paper that said she came up on the Love Train from Tennessee and one dog tested positive for Parvo but that the likelihood of our dog having contracted it was extremely low. He glossed over the severity of the condition & when we asked what it was he said, "I should know this, but I'd just Google it if I were you." He said to keep an eye out for vomiting and bloody diarrhea but beyond that we had no idea what was coming for our puppy in the days ahead.

Our dog began vomiting on Sunday morning at 2 a.m. It was sporadic and did not raise alarm because it was just food - no bile or anything else. As Sunday went on, she became more sick & stopped eating, then just dry heaved. We took her to our family vet & she had indeed contracted Parvo. They gave her ER treatment & fluids, we checked her into the hospital where she has to stay there for 3-7 days on IVs, fluids, antibiotics, etc. The casual "warning" about "low risk exposure" was not sufficient.

We paid $370 to adopt the dog, $150 for the initial medical care, and $1333 for two days in the ER. She then has to be transferred to the family vet for observations.

Parvo is DEADLY & EXTREMELY CONTAGIOUS. The carelessness with which HSHV "told us" about Parvo is appalling. Telling people to "Google" a virus and not testing the dog for Parvo is reckless and endangers old, young, and sick dogs. Parvo spreads like wildfire & can last in the soil for up to a year! We had to BLEACH OUR YARD in an attempt to kill the virus. We've thrown away all of the toys, beds, & materials that could carry the virus. There is a vaccine for Parvo, but it's not effective in puppies until several weeks after the final round (around 3-4 mos old). The vet would not even let us in the waiting room b/c the virus is so powerful & hearty it can be transported on shoes, clothes, skin, etc. We had to wash our HANDS with bleach. It's been a nightmare trying to think of every surface we have touched then bleaching it. Not to mention the torture for the poor dog. She, at only eight weeks, is hooked up to tubes, IVs, riddled with meds, and might not even make it. If she does, she has to have surgery!

DO NOT LEAVE HSHV without asking for a Parvo test.

If you are ever looking for an animal this is the place to go but thet also have a great vet they can't do everything but they took care of my cat when she got attacked by a kid they made sure she was healthy and happy I'd recommend this be the first place you go when looking for a new companion

Adopted our dog there, it was super busy with customers. The staff still took the time to go over all the paperwork and answer all our questions before we finalized the paperwork. Definitely a good place to adopt from

Great clinic with great services. We go to the Low Cost Veterinary Clinic (LCVC) for our vaccines because they are half the cost of what our regular Vet charges. I love that places like this exist! They help keep our furry family members healthy without charging an arm and a leg to do so. The clinic is open one day per month and there will be lengthy lines but they have a good way of keeping it organized and getting people in and out in a timely fashion. I would suggest coming with two people and have one person stay in the car with your animal while the other one waits in line.

All in all I would highly recommend their services to anyone who can manage the schedule they have for the LCVC. The staff are friendly, warm, responsive and knowledgeable which adds to the overall great experience.

Beautiful shelter they have, very nice and clean. We Just went in today to adopt a kitty for our our family and It really was a pleasant experience, the staff and volunteers were all so helpful and most important they were friendly and welcoming which is just as important to us :) thank you for the happy experience. We decided to go in on a week day morning, had no waits or crowds at that time, just a kids summer camp going on which is nice to see they have a program for kids. I love that our Kitty was UTD on everything plus neutered already and a very fair adoption price. Thanks again. :)

I took in my almost 7 month kitten because she is having eye issues and they said " She will get better with in 3 days. I took her in about a week ago. Her eyes look like they have gotten worse. I do believe that they miss- diagnosed her or they did her exam wrong. I am not satisfied with this vet at all!

The staff in the vet clinic are excellent! I had my dog's dental cleaning done here, and even though they ended up extracting several teeth, the price was fair/reasonable compared to everywhere else I checked AND everyone there was extremely kind and informative! I highly recommend getting procedures done there because the prices are fair and they are really compassionate about the animals under their care.

The staff here is so horribly selfish. My friend went to adopt a dog and fell in love with a beautiful little puppy. She was ready to adopt that day but was told to come back the next day because a dog couldn t be adopted the same day it came in. So she woke up early and sat outside for 2 hours making sure to be first in line to be able to give her new puppy a great home. When she went in, she was told that one of the staff had already adopted her. So don t fall in love with an animal here because odds are the staff will lie to you and take them for themselves.
