Victor Yeung Review of Humane Society of Huron Valley
This is one of the best animal shelters out there....
This is one of the best animal shelters out there. Period. I am a dog person so I come here more for the dogs than anything else and this review will focus on the Humane Society's dog program. This shelter treats their animals with extreme love and care. All of the dog cages are very spacious and have an indoor and outdoor area separated by a doggie door. The dogs are free to choose whether they want to hang out inside or outside. The staff members always make sure that the dogs have plenty of blankets, toys, and food. While you are looking around, there are small treat buckets hanging outside their cages so you can feed the dogs a couple of treats as you walk by. There is a trail outside for you to walk dogs that you are interested in meeting and adopting. Their website is also updated constantly so if you want to know which animals are at the shelter, you can always check online. One of my favorite things about this shelter is their Love Train program. About twice a month, they bring a bunch of puppies from different shelters across the South up to Michigan and make them available for adoption. About every other Friday, HSHV puts those puppies up for adoption and they are usually all adopted within the week. There is usually a line on those days and they only allow a few people to meet the puppies at a time, so people get to HSHV early to get tickets so they can be one of the first to choose from the adoptable puppies. The adoption prices are very very reasonable and I am perfectly fine with paying even more money since I know all of the great things they are doing here. My girlfriend and I adopted a dog who had heartworm from here in September and HSHV paid for the entire heartworm treatment, which costs a couple thousand dollars. We just had to pay for a few of his pills and the vet visits, which totalled to under $100 dollars. I absolutely love this place and will come here to adopt my pets for the rest of my life.
