Rude, immature person answered my call concerning the neighbor's aggressive pit bull. She was hostile from the get go. I called because I live in a neighborhood banning fences, the neighbor is hostile and the dog is acting in a aggresive fashion, making direct eye contact with me, standing with it's tail straight up, and barking every time I am gardening in my yard. I don't feel safe in my yard. The Humane Society's response of suggesting I calling the police instead of them is grossly inadequate. The Humane Society has blood on its hands. It is directly responsible for severe injuries and deaths of thousands of children, teens and adults and the mauling and deaths of even more animals by promoting the adoption of pit bulls. A pit bull image is currently the logo of the Huron Valley Humane's society literature, posters, and on fundraiser posters. One of my neighbor's German Shepherd had its eye gouged out by two pit bulls that escaped from a neighbors electronic fenced yard. Promoting adoption by default promotes popularizing the breed and encouraging more breeding. Pit bulls are completely banned in 12 countries including Denmark. Pit bulls and pit bull mixes are responsible for the majority hospitalizations due to dog bites and the majority of deaths in dog attacks. Insurance companies in other states charge more for or refuse to insure homes whose owners have a pit bull because 1/3 of all home insurance claims are paid out to victims of dog bites and the vast majority of these bites are pit bulls. The Michigan Humane Society spearheaded legislation that prevents Michigan home owners from being penalized for owning a pit bull - which means that the rest of us who don't own pit bulls are subsidizing the cost to society by having our insurance rates hiked up to cover the cost of insurance payouts for pit bulls. I think people who choose to own a dangerous animal should take full responsibility and full consequences - including being sued, having their insurance go up, and being jailed for harm inflicted by their furry weapons.

Im a junior volunteer here and they are honestly the best humane society out there! They make sure the volunteers are well taken care of and safe and they do the same for all of their customers I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves animals!

The front desk staff and kennel staff are unbelievably friendly, helpful and encouraging. They rock. However, when I brought my current dog of 5 years to an introduction to a dog I was going to potentially adopt I was the least bit impressed with the trainer. I am familiar with how my dog acts around other dogs, and as a dog sitter, I have introduced her to dozens of other dogs. I am also familiar with hound breeds and know that scent is most important! At the end of the walk around the parking lot - the trainer let the potential dog JUMP and TACKLE my current dog. No sniffing, no warning, now ash holding (TRAINER: YOU CANNOT LET THE LEASH GO IN THE FIRST 3 MINUTES OF INTRO), just a large pounce and immediate Nope. He ll find another home, have a nice day . If you are planning on doing a doggy introduction you should inform the trainer of your dogs personality, and known methods that DO work for your dog. Very disappointed on how this happened, and also very disappointed we weren t allowed the opportunity to properly introduce these dogs together. I hope the next person has a better trainer on duty because this was very unfair for me, my dog, the shelter dog, and my family.

I only gave this two stars because the facility is very nice and most of the staff is friendly and helpful. My issue is that I was berated in the lobby by an employee for asking to adopt a dog. I asked how I would go about adopting a certain dog and she told me it wasn t a good fit for me and proceeded to shut down any of my questions. I asked for clarification and she pulled me aside and raised her voice at me in front of a full lobby of people. I was extremely surprised to see that no other volunteer addressed this and this was allowed to happen. It was completely unprofessional and it s incredible that a staff member was allowed to speak to me like this and tell me the dog would be a bad fit for me without knowing me or my living situation at all. It felt as if the whole time I was being set up for failure like she was looking for reasons to keep me from adopting this dog. I can only assume she might have been saving it for a friend or something because it didn t make any sense. After browsing the other reviews I noticed that this isn t the first time someone has felt like this has happened. I can provide an excellent home for a dog that meets all of its needs and it felt like the person at the desk was trying to find any reason to keep me from adopting a specific dog. Completely rude and unprofessional service. There s no excuse for that

The Huron valley human society is an amazing place, but I just tried to buy a pit bull named shadow and we rushed from Ann arbor to Livonia to get our dog for a meet and great and " pajama party" and back to Ann arbor in bumper to bumper traffic and we got there only 15 minutes too late and the awful lady named Jessica told us because we were 15 minutes to late we couldn't do the meet and great and you have to remember she pretty much told 2 kids they couldn't get a dog because they were 15 minutes late and we had a hold on it and they let another couple take the dog home for a " pajama party" and as much as I love this human society I had a really bad day there.Augest 10, so after this incedent the human socity they called me and told me because this happened I will get a free dog so I thought that was really nice of them so I went back there at on of there love trains and got an amazing little puppy she is so playful and full of joy so they fixed there mistace I guess this gose to show that they can turn a bad experience into a loving puppy!!!

Good experience overall but please be open and honest about prices. Every time I ve taken my kitten in ive ended up paying at least double what is estimated, and he is only 8 months old and I have already paid for three $45 annual exams that I wasn t expecting until check-out.

I adopted a cat the other day. The staff was lacking but I can only guess it was because of covid. Staff was very kind and patient! Paul, or as he is now known as "Remy" is very sweet and just on the second day he cuddled up to me and was very playful. It looks like they treat their animals very well and I hope all of the little guys there can go to forever homes :)

Unbeknownst to me "Kitten Season" is March-October so don't go in there around Christmas time thinking you'll find one. That's why its only getting 2 stars from me. I walked in and right back out.

The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly! I was greeted with warm smiles (I could tell, even though they had masks on).
One of the girls at the desk (I believe her name was Sam) helped me find the perfect cat for my family.
I will be back to adopt from HSHV in the future! If you are looking to add a new furry friend to your family, I highly recommend visiting HSHV!

If you have a vet appointment Do Not Be Late! They Will Reschedule you. What they don't tell you when you schedule the appointment (typically 3 weeks out) is to plan to arrive 20min early in case there is no available parking. Apparently lack of parking is an ongoing issue

I love our no kill shelter. They have fabulous staff and splendid animals up for adoption. Everything from barn cats to dreadfully harmed and rehabbed dogs and cats as well as guinea pigs and more.

There is so much I could say about the good they do here- even when compared to other shelters. Having been around the shelter as a volunteer and seeing the vets as a client for the last 12+ years, I can tell you you re not going to find a more caring group of staff members. They will do everything possible for the strays/shelter animals to rehabilitate them if necessary and find them a good new home. I am a lot more confident that everything possible will be done to help an animal that may not be the case everywhere. They go above and beyond what you will find at state shelters and are at the forefront of private shelters as well. The vets are all amazing! They will talk through options and explain what is needed or optional. If you ever have questions about a treatment plan, I m sure they all will be happy to answer your questions. Prices are very reasonable, and it all goes back to help the shelter. The surgeons are spectacular too! Especially if you re just there for a spay or neuter, in a couple years you likely will barely know where the scar is.

Adoption, vet clinic, intake, and services are all amazing. Friendly and caring staff no matter what department you have to use during your visit. Very professional and cares about animals wellbeing more than anything. 10/10 recommend to anyone. In washtenaw county or not, please consider this humane society for your pet adoption and veterinary care.

I found out from my vet in Ann Arbor that they get sick animals from this facility. I was appalled! They don't tell future adopters about medical issues because they want your $$!! It sickens me that my vet told me they saved dogs from parvo and kennel cough. They recently had to euthanize a few dogs and cats because they were diagnosed with cancer and heart disease. People don't mind adopting animals who are sick but be honest, because they end up with a broken heart and loss of cash.

I'm not sure what it's like on a "normal" day (or if there even is such a thing) but for the Bissell Empty the Shelters Day, this place was a fine tuned, pet adoption machine!
The staff are friendly, the kennels are clean, and with an on-site pet shop and clinic, you can't go wrong.
One bit of advice: don't plan on close timing for anything after a vet visit. It can take a fair while longer to get in and out than you might expect.

This has been the worst experience ever. My family is crying seeing how our kitten has ended up since getting her vaccinated and spayed here.

I took my 4 week old kitten to get spayed. One of the ladies said i have to do a distemper vaccine in order to get her spayed. When i arrived there, they said i have to do a Rabies shot as well. Mind you, a 4 month old kitten should NOT be getting a Rabies vaccine at this age. Let alone getting rabies, distemper and spayed at the same day???!

My kitten now is on the brink of dying. She stopped eating, and now vomits and has diarrhea for the past 2 days. They did not even provide pain medication after surgery. I called the next day to ask if they can help. The clinic said to go to another vet and they can't help!!!!

I've spend a few hundred dollars in the past 2 days at different clinics trying to figure out what's wrong with my kitten.

They also are very careless when it comes to cutting nails. They cut so far back on one of her nails you can see blood.

Save your sanity and go some where else. I dont even know if my kitten is going to survive. Pray for her. :(

****UPDATE******

I received a phone call from Gary the vet manager after this review. He reached out and said he wanted to help! After we took her back, they really took the time to exam our kitten Lulu. We ran blood tests, Xrays and gave her pain meds, antibiotics and gave her anti-nausea shot. It's been nearly 5 days and she's back to her normal self. I can't express how thankful i am for Gary to call and bring her back for treatment. We still dont know why she got so sick but we're just happy she's healthy and being herself again.

Thank you all!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I adopted a "female" guinea pig from here, and when I got home I checked her out to make sure she was a female and it was rather ambiguous, so I put them together after a quarantine period. I am not an expert at sexing guinea pigs as I have only had one other female, so I assumed the people at the Humane society knew better. I guess I thought the vets at the humane society would have taken two seconds to check and sex this pig because it is a MALE!!! Now my female guinea pig is pregnant and due to her age has a high chance of dying. Now there are going to be even more unplanned guineas in the world because the people here couldn't take two seconds to check the sex of the pig.

They were so nice here and care about all their animals. We got our new addition to our family here and he is a great kitty. His name is puck. Staff helped us get paperwork and answered all our questions. Highly recommend. We forgot a cage and they loaned us one to bring him home.

THEY STOLE MY DOGS LEG!!!!!!!! Well...they took it. Then charged me for it. Poor max max disloaceted his paw and the emergency vet at a local clinic couldnt set it fully and tried to ship us off to their surgeon. Roughly looking at a bill of 7,200.00 for everything. We got many second opinions and with maxs weight 9lbs and he is a chiuauah terrier so he is high strung...chances of a meaningful recover were 20%. Not that I wanted to make an already ugly god so ugly he was adorable and kind of funny by taking a leg.....poor max. But Huron valley helped us. And I am grateful.

Unfortunately they lie just to get an animal adopted. They told me the cat I adopted - before her surgical sutures were out after her eyes had to be removed - was found by them near Willis Road. Turns out she actually was from a hoarder case. She is showing all of the issues an animal from such a situation and none of them are good. However I made a commitment to her and will keep her, but I tell people to avoid HSHV at all costs. There are many other nearby shelters with truthful employees.

I think this place is RIDICULOUS. I came in with my two boys (ages 2 and 4) to find a loving canine companion to join our family. These people decided to put on EVERY SINGLE DOG paperwork (there were over 30 dogs) that NOT ONE of them could be around young kids or be adopted by a family with young kids. I completely understand that a shelter does not know the background of a dog and that exposing one to a child when it has never been around one could end negatively. I really do understand that concept. But to not even give them a chance? A supervised meet and greet with the volunteer at the shelter holding the leash? I've gone to SEVERAL humane societies and this one is the only one that discriminates against families with children. I truly believe they don't even check to see if a dog could be great with kids and love being around kids and you know who is losing out?! The dog. The perfectly capable dog who has to sit there and rot away in a cage because the people caring for them decided that they weren't going to give the dog a chance to become part of a loving family. Huron valley needs a reality check.
