I ve adopted 4 of my pets from HSHV. Every experience has been great, from the old building (10 years ago) to the new beautiful update building now. My most recent adoption had a small hiccup (my kitten missed his deworming meds and showed evidence of worms within hours of taking him home...). However, HSHV were amazing and admitted there error and provided the deworming medication with out the standard visit (he d been out of there facility less than 24hrs...). Im so happy I keep coming back to this center even though it is a 35-40 min drive passing other closer shelters along the way. One super cool new thing they offer is online bios and pictures. I m sure this is not new but was certainly not available 11years ago when I adopted my first 2cats.

Absolutely the best! I have adopted two cats from here now and have had such great experiences! The facility is so clean, the animals are well taken care of, and the staff is knowledgeable! Most of the staff and volunteers are quite friendly, and if you have an issue with a volunteer, try to remember they're volunteering their time for a great cause:) definitely go check out to adopt or even just to play with the animals!

I've gone to camp here for the past 3 years, and I've loved every year. You learn so much! Both of my cats we adopted from here! It's an amazing facility, and I can't wait to be a jv next year!

Theses guy are great! I have been adopting rabbits for a while. If it wasnt for them, i wouldn't of met my beautiful family of rabbits. Such a whimsy bunch they are! I am very happy w the procedures of getting adopted. They make sure your animal is tip top before you take them home. These people at the shelter are very hard workers ! I am grateful for all they done! Most happiness Anita

Excellent place! I adopted my cat from HSHV last year, and this month I got a dog. My cat can be kind of a jerk and their behavior help service helped me with this. The shelter is super clean and welcoming and all the animals are well cared for.

I went to go adapt a dog I was interested in. First their computers were down and I couldn't take him home. They call me the next morning and say that all the sudden it's a problem I have cats and cannot take him home! I met all their requirements, and bought tons of stuff the night before built him a cage and everything. What a waste

Well staffed and housing SOOO many animals of all kinds. Very large cat rescue. Lots of volunteers, large location, I don't think they are a kill shelter as I've seen the same dogs in there for months once or twice a month they have the 'love train' if you're looking for the most adorable puppies. Please check them out and support them!

Wonderful facility. The animals are well cared for, great staff and amazing volunteers. Good educational programs, occasional discounted vet services and you can have a birthday party here or organize a social media birthday fundraiser for them.

Do not ever bring in animals that you rescued to t...

Do not ever bring in animals that you rescued to this place of business they are very money hungry and the adoption agency supervisor is very biased..
I rescued six kittens from under my home couple months back didn't want them to starve so I asked for the Humane society's help. I dropped them off told them I would love to adopt two of them when they were ready they put the two I chose on hold..In the meantime where they were getting healthy and able to be adopted I would want to follow up with them my children were very excited we have not had a kitten in our house for 16 years so we were ready to take on two..
They kind of seemed rude throughout the whole process when I would call sometimes when I would call and want to inquire about the kittens and see how they're doing even though I was told I can call and check in on them anytime I still felt very pushed away on some phone calls.
Well adoption day came and I inquired about how do you go about putting caps on kittens because I understand now that declawing is not legal in our state mind you had a cat 16 years ago he just had his front paws declawed and never has any any problems healthwise because of it. Yeah I care about my furniture I take care of my things so that's why I did it back then and didn't know you couldn't do it now. So come to find out the adoption supervisor is the most biased person that I know denied us the day of adoption because I talked about having a cat 16 years ago who was declawed and I wanted to know about the service they provided at their facility to put caps on kittens until they became familiar with the house..
You should have seen the looks on my kids faces when that woman told me over the phone sorry we're not going to give them to you I wanted to scream and curse her something ugly..
So after dealing with a shity experience here at the Huron Valley Humane society of Ann Arbor for almost 2 months we are very grateful for a Humane society in another county came to the rescue and now we have the best furry addition that our family can ask for.
With no help from Humane society of Huron Valley I nor will my family and friends never ever will call on them for anything.
Still can't believe I literally rescued these kittens from underneath my insulation and all because of a conversation a woman who took it all wrong and has her own biased opinion about people I'll just never forget this experience it was the worst so please people do not take your rescue animals their consider looking into another counties Humane society.. And if you would like to adopt animals this humane society is overpriced because their money hungry.
One more thing you try to reach out to someone like the CEO to let them know your concern and that wasn't even right of this woman over the phone to do this and no one cares to get back with you so the audacity of this place just pisses me off they were just wrong especially the day of adoption when we were so ready for these kittens that We rescued thank you for nothing have a feeling y'all made more than $600 off of me you're welcome..Each kitten is 120 to adopt so yeah you guys did make out with some good money from me..
I should have kept them raise them myself and gave them away to people for free I rescue kittens again I'm definitely not taking them here..

Love love love this humane society (so much I'm writing a paper on it)!! This is where I adopted my baby beagle who I love and adore more than anything in the world (they told us he had food aggression and possession issues, but he found the right family to help him, and his behavior has improved so much). Can't wait to (hopefully) volunteer here next year!

Good vet clinic, but if they say drop off is at 8am for spay/neuter just realize that they open at 8am and don't open the doors until 8. So no point in getting there early. Kind of frustrating but they did do a good job..

Two stories.

Two stories.
Just called them yesterday to say there s a feral cat that won t let u near it. But it was caught in a foot trap it s dragging around. They said they would help only if WE catch it and bring it in. There s woods everywhere and we can t catch it.

Months ago my sister found a stray kitten. They said they don t take in stray cats.

UPDATE: they have contacted me again and offered free medical service for the cat. Thank you.

This place used to be so nice before COVID-19 all the volunteers and staff were so nice. Me and my boyfriend went today and the guy where you check in looked like he didn t want to be there at all and gave me rude tone when I asked a simple question very nicely. Also when we were in the puppy room there was nothing stating you had to change gloves in between puppies and if there was it wasn t put in a place where it would be obvious to see. A guy came in basically yelling at us and was really rude when he told us we had to change our gloves in between puppies which was something we didn t know. We were done after that we just walked out when we were looking into getting a dog/puppy. Miss the old staff and really should rethink who they have as volunteers won t be visiting often or at all anymore.

Thank you for helping us with our wild life - - the ground hog we called Anita was around our homes for many years this Fall she broke her leg and we tried to catch her but weren't this lucky until now - the HSHV came ASAP when we had her she was severely underweight and the leg had not healed right and she would not have made it through the winter - nothing they could do but ending her suffering - strangely we felt we lost a friend but knowing it was the right thing to do and that she is not suffering anymore - our little once much bigger groundhog Anita - rest in peace - and thank you HSHV - for being there - Andrea and neighbors

I have been going here for four years now just to get my fill of animals. The animals are so loving and they are well taken care of here. They have volunteer programs as well if you re interested.

I had a great experience here! My husband and I went in, knowing we wanted to go home with a kitten, and they made the process painless. We had to fill out a short form (one page, front and back) about ourselves and our home to get a 'cat pass' which would allow us to hold the cats. We figured out which one we wanted rather quickly, and brought the paper to the front to finish up. We had a short adoption meeting with one of the workers who gave us lots of helpful tips on how to best care for our new kitten. They gave us all of her medical records and were very helpful and kind! We were in and out in about an hour. So far, she's been great. We've had her home for 4 days and she's had no accidents (very well trained with the litter box!), no scratching or biting incidences, and she's very cuddly and LOVES to play! The only thing that's not great is that after showing her medical records to our vet, she said that they had been vaccinating her every two weeks, which is 'off label and immunosuppresses them'. Other than that, everything is perfect...and I'm not sure yet how much that will affect her. Very happy with this place!!

I had found a domestic rabbit that someone had dumped off in my driveway. We had it for a few days and my husband noticed it wasn t moving a leg correctly. Our vet doesn t do small animals and no rescues had returned our call so we contacted the humane society. We brought the rabbit in and they were so caring and compassionate. I can t say enough about having this resource to turn to especially with Covid making it so difficult to seek veterinary care.

We adopted Jade from the Humane Society Oct. 28. We discovered quickly that they had given us a very ill cat and brought her back for evaluation. They refused to treat her without us "surrendering" her. We had no choice but to do so because the cost of treatment at a private hospital would have been prohibitive. We repeatedly emphasized that we loved her and wanted her back. Returning her for treatment was the morally correct decision as she wound up needing 8 hours of surgery to remove a pound of tissue from her intestine. She was in recovery for close to two weeks and my wife called them every single day to check on Jade. Then, without even speaking to my wife in person, the director "Michelle" left voice message saying that they had decided to "go in another direction" and would not return her to us.

This was appalling and immoral behavior. They gave us a very sick cat, then refused to treat her without surrender. We want her back.

Never take your animal or any animal you care about to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Avoid at all costs.

We took our dog to the Clinic a week ago. They were WONDERFUL! Every fee was discussed prior to my consenting to procedures. The prices were by far less expensive than most Vets. Our Dr. was extremely thorough in his initial examination. Our dog was unfortunately, very sick. Our Dr has called us twice so far to discuss possible treatments and to check on our dogs health. I will never go anywhere else. Also, the front staff is equally as friendly, polite, and professional.

I adopted a cat two years ago from here. HSHV is the best. They work hard to save every animal that comes in the door. The environment is stellar considering it is a shelter, but they work hard to place each one in a forever home. I stopped in to drop off a donation of towels, and then went to see the animals. While it is sad to see so many homeless pets, they are fed, safe, dry, and up to date on shots. If you need a new best friend, please visit and adopt.

My girlfriend and I just got our first dog here! We have been searching for months for the right puppy for us and we finally found her. This humane society has always been clean, the staff has always been friendly and engaging, and we have never come in and had a bad experience. I would definitely recommend this humane society to friends and family. As a matter of fact, we recommended it to my mother and she actually bought 2 kittens from here the very next day.

An amazing place. I've adopted all of my animals here, and I keep coming back to their vet clinic, too. Great new facility, very well maintained. Awesome, friendly volunteers. They treat the animals extremely well here. I trust them more than any other shelter in the Metro area.

We love HSHV! We ve adopted several FeLV+ cats from their lovely admin colony and plan on returning through the years. The staff is very friendly and the volunteers are very helpful. When you adopt from them, you get access to a cat or dog behaviorist throughout the life of the pet- how cool is that! They ve given us some great tips.

Their Tiny Lions Cat Cafe in west Ann Arbor is also a great place to hangout!
