Chonky cats and cute puppies. Adopt one today. You should also volunteer there. I'm sure they'd love the help. (Disclaimer: Not all cats guaranteed to be chonky. Approach at your own risk.) Five stars for amazing animals.
We love coming here and seeing the cats and dogs. Clean and seems well staffed. We would definitely get a dog or cat there.
Me and my boyfriend had moved out on our own together and kind of thought that we weren't sure about getting a pet, but decided to check it out anyways! We knew we wanted to adopt not shop. The first thing we noticed was how nice and helpful the staff were and how clean it was! All the dogs were very well behaved and you could tell that they were being well-cared for! We spotted a puppy we fell in love with and the adoption process was very easy, rest assure you they made sure I was ready for the commitment of our new puppy! They had him neutered and vaccinated and dewormed within 10 hours of putting him on hold! Which was amazing because that meant we could ring him home the next day! They had amazing care instructions and great puppy counseling to ensure us a good future with our pup! And we took him for a check up at their clinic (super affordable!) and they were just as great! Now over a month later and we are still in love with our little guy and everyone around us dotes on him just as much! We will continue to go here!
I hated it; because of COVID-19 your pet goes in alone and they come out full of fear and anxiety. This is almost like communism.
This is a "no kill" shelter. They keep their animals in beautiful condition. Cages and pens are spotless. The volunteers keep everything running smoothly. Very reasonable adoption fees. This is definitely a place to go to find your new pet.
Place is always clean and all the animals look well cared for and happy
We go here once a month to get cat food and look at the animals
Got both of my cats from here, they made it super easy and walked me through everything I needed to know.
New modern facility. Very well run. Animals treated well. Helpful staff.
Very great vollentering opportunities! will awnser all of your questions kind and helpful. Treat their dogs, cats, and all animals very well! I love the fact that they are a no kill shelter and are willing to take in ANY animal that is in trouble. Adoption is their #1 priority their! Great workers and people! :).
Best humane society around. Friendly and helpful staff. And lots of animals waiting for a new home.puppy train once every two weeks
Great place for taking cats that need, that need to be tnr'ed. Great prices and great staff.
My son was beaming after the reading program. He only wishes he could have given snuggles to his reading buddies.
great place everyone is super friendly and the animals are really well taken care of
Looking for a dog but not for a killing price' i want to help homeless dogs '
Place is amazing for animals, but if you want to adopt a dog, you'll probably have to set up a tent and live there, they are gone so fast.
They have a great vet clinic and very reasonably priced.
HVHS is an asset to our community. I have adopted all of my dogs and cats from this humane society. They take the time to provide the information new pets owners need. The dog training classes are particularly helpful and reasonably priced. They also allow you to schedule a visit with your current dog and your potential new dog to make sure it's a good match (for a reasonable fee to cover staff time).
My boyfriend and I came to the shelter not really looking for any animal in particular, but we came across a beautiful dog named angel. After taking her for a walk around the park, and speaking to the one of the women at the counter about angel, we decided we wanted to take things a step further.
The next day we called to set up a slumber party. (basically like an interview with the dog) they told us that she would be waiting and ready when we got there. For some reason things that were not spoken of prior to, were now coming out of the wood works. When we arrived, one of the women made us feel as if we were jumping hoops and hurdles to just do a SLUMBER PARTY. She told us that she had called our complex to see if they would even accept pit bulls. While we had already spoken to our complex manager and they agreed to letting us do the slumber party. They would then come and examine the dog in the environment, and tell us wether or not they would let us have angel.
While it is understandable to find the perfect home for each animal at the shelter, it felt as if my boyfriend and I were set up for failure from the beginning. In the end, they felt as if angel wasn t a good fit, and basically denied us to move further in any part of the adoption process.
Very loving and caring with both of my large dogs. One has special and they come to my car and carry her inside..
After hearing good things about this humane society my husband and I decided to venture the hour drive to visit. We wanted to look at kittens/ cats.. they had one kitten in a room of empty cages. A volunteer came and open the cage and left. An employee came about 10 minutes later and started yelling at my husband and I. Mind you we had two toddlers with us. She assumed we opened the cage ourselves and demanded to see our pass because she wanted us to prove we were allowed to be there. We then went to the next room where she again came in and said if we wanted to look at a cat we'd have to show her our pass again. Seriously? It was less then 2 minutes later!! We immediately left and will never go back. There are plenty if rescues who'd appreciate our business.
I have now gotten both of my animals from Huron valley, Thor and Loki. I got thor about a year ago and it was a great process of adopting, other than when it came to the clinic part. I wrote a bad review a little over a year ago about their clinic and then Huron valley called and begged for me to take it down, so I did. But this time I am so disappointed in this shelter. I got loki from there a little over a week ago and when I got her I let them know before packing her up that she had a bad eye and asked them to please look at it for me. They said it was fine and they checked her medical history and everything was fine there too. So when I got home I have to say I was extremely upset to see that her eye was oozing our yellow and green and she could barely breathe through her nose because it was so stuffed up. When I finally cleaned her up I looked at her medical history myself and it in fact said that she had a URI and that she had worms that were treated for. It just makes me so upset to think that they would send me home with another cat who is obviously so sick and knowing I had another one at home. So 2 vet visits later and over hundreds Of dollars later she s finally getting better. The only reason why I m giving them two stars is because 1. They gave my my two favorite things in this world (my cats) and 2. This is probably the most clean shelter I ve been to. They ve just disappointed me twice now and I want to let everyone else know about this experience I ve had. Also, I m not taking this review down this time.
I adopted my cat here, and my family adopted all of our pets from here when I was younger. This place is absolutely fantastic. The volunteers are all amazing and passionate about helping out the animals at the shelter.
so helpful and most experienced people giving you a chance new friend home to try it out even if you like your furry new friend to make sure that you are compatible with your new friend I think this is a great opportunity that they do thank you very much and I had a wonderful experience there myself
There were only cats over 7-10 years old. No kitties. No puppies. Many older dogs only.
They are wonderful... They have a program that helps low income families feed their pets! Cats and dogs... The vet office is wonderful also, both of my boys love vet visits because the staff is beyond friendly, kind and understanding. They also offer payment plans for those in need so your fur babies can stay happy and healthy! 5 from me
Anytime that I've been to this facility, I've been treated great! 2 years ago, my boyfriend and I adopted a beautiful cat named Mei! She is 3 now and the best cat anyone could hope for. She lays in my lap peacefully when I clip her nails and about once every 5 monthes she gets in the bath tub for a good scrub:) I never thought a cat could be so sweet.
This afternoon we will be visiting again to hopefully find a DOG to be a sweet older brother for our sweet kitty. Fingers crossed.
we always love going here to look at the cats and dogs
Drive an hour to get a cat. We get there and they give it a way while we are signing in to see the cat.
Have been taking my animals here and visiting for decades.
Love the humane society!! Great place, people, staff!!
We adopted our dog a year ago from HSHV and take her to their clinic for all of her health and wellness needs. Their staff goes above and beyond in providing services and care for our dog!
Always clean and the people are friendly. Pet accommodations are wonderful.
Last year I adopted a mature adult cat (female) named Kitz. Orange cat with a stubby tail. Fell in love with her. I asked the adoption staff about her they said she was healthy and laid back. Took her home and she adjusted very well. Litter box trained and everything. I started to notice that she wouldn't eat. For the first 2 days. I thought maybe it was because she moved to a new environment. The 3rd day she was very lethargic and not eating, took her to my local vet and told me she had liver cancer. I was shocked because the staff who adopted her out to me said she was healthy. I had no choice but to put her to sleep. I got the euthanasia papers and drove up there with my grandma and told them that the employees lied to me and told me Kitz was a healthy cat. They got the manager and she told me it was MY fault for not taking her to their vet. First of all I live 1/2 hour away and I don't drive due to medical reasons and second of all they should've been honest with me about the cat. I asked if I could get my adoption refunded so I could pay back my grandma for the vet expenses. They said no and said I am not ready for a cat. I told them I will never adopt from there again. 1 month later I went to Westland Humane society and adopted senior cat name Poe and he is so healthy. I told them what happened at Huron Valley Humane Society and they said that a few people had incidents there. Stay away from Huron Valley "Humane" Society.
Update 8-30-16:
Literally let's blame me because I didn't take her to the vet on time. I thought it takes animals time to adjust. Took her to Sheehy animal hospital in Livonia and told me she had liver cancer and had it for awhile and spreaded to her lungs and stomach. I live far away, the "humane" society will pay for so much. Dear Huron, make sure your animals are completely healthy before you adopt out. Seems like another review has the same problem. Don't put this crap on me, I already still mourn that poor cat I had to put down!
Most likely one of the best in southeast Michigan. The animals are well cared for, and this humane society should be a leader for others to follow as far as how a shelter should be ethically and properly operated.
Lots of cute animals ready for adoption and very friendly staff
Absolutely love this place great vet and shelter staff
Such a beautiful shelter, it s one of the nicest and cleanest I ve seen.
Terrific opportunities to adopt Love Train puppies!
Everyone was nice and kind and I want to know when do they have little puppies that I could adopt
The facility is very big, in the country so good place to take a test walk. Lots of cats and kittens and a pet supply shop
Adopted a kitten from here for the first time and it was a great experience!
I have nothing but praise for the work HSHV carries out.
Great people beautiful setting and a huge nice shelter make them great to work with and visit
Hands down the best animal shelter!!! They're a no kill shelter....the facility is always clean....they do a great turn around of dogs....even the 10 year old+ that typically have a hard time finding a new home!!!! This is a must see if you're thinking of getting any kind of house animal....they even have rabits and guinea pigs!!!!
We brought a stray cat that we found here and the staff was very friendly. I just know they're going to find a home for the little guy
I'm very disappointed. They lie and say that the first vet appointment is discounted, yet it is not!! Any other vet will have been cheaper. The humane society vet charged me $30 to get my cat's nails clipped. His first appointment which was just a check up and shots costed around $200. THERE IS NO WAY THAT THIS PLACE A NON-PROFIT. I ended up finding out that my cat has asthma after seeing another vet. They not only charged me less but knew how to do their job right. The humane society's vet overcharged and misdiagnosed my cat. It's not fair that this wasn't listed in his documentation. His inhaler costs $250. I have to order him multiple inhalers throughout the year so that my cat doesn't have an asthma attack. I'm also a college student. I am in debt because of the carelessness of the humane society. THEIR VET IS A SCAM!!! I am very disappointed that they lie there as well.
Awesome place. We donated all our pets supplies here after our dog had to be put down. They were very grateful.
I recommend their clinic highly. Very professional, clean, organized. Knowledgeable doctors. Very good prices.
Awesome people helped add a new member to the family. VIP treatment for humans and cats alike
Super staff well ran can't say enough Boogie & Gilligan
Adopted a cat from them. Great experience. Friendly caring staff & clean facility.
I have nothing against the adoption aspect of HSHV. And I had a very good experience with their training classes. But I've had multiple bad experiences with their vet clinic. The short version is that they seemed to care a great deal about selling me stuff, and did a very bad job of taking care of my dog.
The first time we visited I asked if I should be concerned about a spot on her tongue, and they didn't even look. Just blithely said slots on tongues are common in X breed. That's fine, but could you at least look to make sure it's the same kind of spot? Still, they had plenty of time to talk about the heartworm and tick medication they could sell me.
Next time my dog needed a rebandage on her paw and a referral for a surgical consult. The previous bandage had lasted five days and seemed to be holding up just fine. The bandage they put on *fell off* after two days. They were also *very much* against getting a surgery outside of their local network of providers. Like, no, if I have the chance to go to the vet clinic that trained most of the bets that work here, I'm going there. It really felt like they didn't have the best interest of my dog in mind when they were pushing for me to go to the local place.
Best Humane Society on the planet, never euthanizes. Extremely dedicated core of volunteers. Takes in animals from other shelters that do euthanize. Maybe an overused term, but Huron Valley truly represents a labor of love.
Adopted a dog from here, everyone was helpful with the process and have offered support as she transitions into her new home. we you are appreciated!
Went there for Bountiful Bowls pet food program and the girls helping me were wonderful and had many suggestions for my Choc lab and how to make healthy choices.
Got my kitty spayed here. Overall the process was smooth, and she is doing very well. The procedure is far cheaper here than it would have been at our usual vet as well.
Great facility with friendly staff. Most importantly, what I like about this particular Humane Society is how much space they give the animals. There is a separate playroom for the cats that they use on a rotation (I'm assuming), so that they are not always stuck in a cage. They also work with the Tiny Lion Cafe in A2 to hopefully find homes for older cats. I adopted my dog Duke there and at the time, he had a fair amount of space (especially compared to the dogs at the Westland Humane Society, unfortunately) and seemed well cared for. We absolutely love him and glad we found him at Huron Valley. I will definitely return here when I'm ready to add a cat to the family.
Spacious facility with plenty of space for both cats and dogs. Plus a separate room for bunny rabbits!!
wanted to adopt a cat but you have to be 21. I m 19. Not sure what a difference 2 years will make but ok lol
We adopted our cat from the Humane Society. We had a great experience there. The volunteers and staff were very helpful and took time to answer all of our questions.
Beautiful shelter, and they do a lot of great work taking in animals across the country. I've done a lot of work with all-volunteer humane societies before, but HSHV has a large full time paid staff in addition to their volunteers and it really makes a huge difference in how smooth operations are and the level of organization! I adopted both of my cats from here. I do wish they would switch microchip partners. Petwatch24 charges a huge membership fee if you want to update the contact information attached to your pet's microchip after the first year and it comes across as predatory in Petwatch's part.
Very clean facility, they brought my dog and I back right at our scheduled appointment time. The vet and techs were very nice and went through all my questions regarding the dental appointment I have coming up for my dog. Will update my review if I have any additional feedback regarding the day of the dental.
There is no staff available to help. There are big dogs in cages that haven't been evaluated or vet checked and kids wandering around in the aisles. We couldn't find anyone to help so we left
Great shelter. Always clean for the animals. Although it seems staff isn't always educated and up to date on the animals.
Great place but it's a shame it cost so much to adopt a pet
No one is on the phone. So sad that my cat s vet is at this institution and other vet clinics are not accepting new animals because of the COVID. I guess he d probably die if this is an emergency
Honestly the staff is amazing the animals are well taken care of and the facility is extremely clean with the amount of human and pet traffic there is. I love going there just to visit with the animals and the staff seems to like when there are visitors. I know when I am ready for another pet this will be the first and last place i will go to to add a new family member to my home.
Extremely efficient and well run. Super clean and nice facility. The staff was very helpful in helping find a dog that was compatible with our dog. I highly recommend this facility to prospective pet adopters.
Adopted a wonderful cat here. staff is so friendly and helpful.
Definitely a well run operation. Donations here are a lot of bang for the buck.
