Ciara Southgate Review of Hotel Sylvia

I lived at the Sylvia for a few weeks in January due to a flood in my home. Overall, I was pretty happy with it. The location is perfect (the only time an average person like me gets to live on English Bay), the room was nice enough, and the staff were kind to me and my dog.
Because of the length of my stay, I chose a suite with a kitchen so I could cook for myself. The kitchen was small but clean and all the basic amenities were provided (coffee maker, kettle, dishes, flatware, a few pots and pans, etc.). It was survivable until I was able to get back into my own rather well-equipped kitchen. It would have been nice to have a baking sheet, though.
The bed was massive. I'm pretty sure I had a Queen Suite, but the bed had to be a king. I also had a pull-out couch, which came in very handy when I had a friend coming into town for a night who had planned to stay with me before my house flooded. My suite was on a corner so I had lots of windows, and the bathroom was tidy and functional (though the water did take a while to heat up - par for the course in such an old building).
My biggest complaint is with the Internet. It's free, but it's absolutely terrible. Painfully bad. When it works (which is not all the time), it's excruciatingly slow. I don't understand why they'd let this problem stay as is for so long when it would be so simple to upgrade the routers. I also don't recommend room service - I only used it once but it took well over an hour to get to my room.
