Very nice, cozy, it is like moving to the past, unforgettable experience.

Horrible. Room was really shabby, not shabby chic, just shabby, .Room smelled strongly of fried food as our room was above the kitchen. Then the heat failed. We were given a small space heater that couldn't begin to heat a room of any size. Staff of no real help. Offered us more blankets and a better room the next night. Offered to comp my parking. It was like sitting in a refrigerator. The manager did unearth a room at another hotel with two twin beds and suggested we move for the night then come back. We found another hotel and moved. This hotel was recommended by many people. I have no idea why.
Only came in on a Friday evening for some drinks. Lovely atmosphere and great service despite the busy-ness.
We were working with the Sylvia Hotel for our wedding and reception. The staff were amazing and helped us out every step of the way. The menu that the F&B manager put together for us was right in line with what we were hoping to have. We would recommend this highly as a venue for others.
Perfect location. Pleasant staff. Lovely rooms that are of course clean. Have been enjoying the Silvia for years.
This is an old favourite! A grand old hotel with character. Good food and drink as well.
Love the ambiance. Staff is great. Right at English Bay.
Excellent location and price with great history. The rooms are smaller and a bit dated reflecting the age, but in good repair.
Quaint* comfortable hotel full of character in a historic ivy-covered building conveniently located downtown. Walking distance to everything, good restaurants and shopping close by. Friendly, helpful staff. Pets allowed. Reasonable WiFi. Kitchenette rooms have stove, oven, full fridge, cutlery, pots and pans, and you can wash and dry dishes.
*We've been coming here every year for decades. This hotel isn't for everyone. If you need fast WiFi, modern heating and plumbing, fast spacious elevators, this won't be for you. Part of it's charm is it's old and quirky with tiny elevators that only hold 3 people, and tiny bathrooms that wouldn't meet current building codes, and so on.
One of my favourite places in the city. Casual lounge with spectacular views.
We always stay at Sylvia on our visits to Vancouver. Very comfortable and cozy.
The restaurant server , her name was Sherry. She spoke very coldly, and didnt like me asking so much questions. I felt uncomfortable by the serious look on her face. Was not friendly at all and gave me the eye. Bad experience will never return.
The Sylvia Hotel is perfectly situated along English Bay beach and even though they have old style rooms its a good place to stay. Affordable and cozy.my only gripe pertains to the staff.they were the most unhappy people I ever met who never smiled and at times I wasn't even sure they worked there.staff were unprofessional except for a security guard who took the time to talk to us every time we saw him at night.I would stay here again because of the affordability and location only.
Great location right across the street from English Bay. Down the street from Stanley Park. Lots of local places to eat nearby. The hotel has a nice restaurant with great food and excellent wine. The hotel itself was built around 1912, so it's an old-style hotel with lots of charm.
The hotel has parking on the premises for an additional fee, and Stanley Park's bike trail is right across the street. There's a bicycle rental shop a couple of blocks away and there are a couple of the city's bicycle sharing stations nearby.
Our room didn't have a safe nor a little refrigerator like many modern hotels. We didn't miss having a fridge, but I would have liked to have the safe. When booking, I would ask if any rooms do have those things, if that's important to you.
We were ok with it because we were there a short time and we were more concerned with the location, which was excellent. The bed was big and comfortable, which is always a plus. The bathroom was very clean and didn't seem old at all. Closet was spacious.
Just a review of the restaurant but, I came to a big family dinner here tonight and our server Pierce blew my mind...legit one of the best servers I ve ever had if not the best. He is so awesome, give that man a raise. Thank you SO much Pierce!
Used bar menu squid (tasty) and natchos (yum) as a light supper.
Excellent view of English Bay and the beach with water slide.
Our family s favourite place to have a relaxing lunch or dinner, with a world class view and exceptional service what more can one ask!
Kind staff, good food, and a lovely view. Very nice place for brunch.
This was an alright hotel for the price. It's a great location, right across from the water with great views in some rooms. It's an older hotel, though, and although there's lots of character in the lobby, the rooms haven't been updated much.
Just ok. Expected more. Staff not so very freindly at front desk but great in dining room. Breakfast was really good. Maybe house keeping could avoid vacuuming at 8am that was annoying. Staff could be heard arguing not pleasant.
The food and music were a spectacular combination, absolutely loved it
Great view across English Bay, good atmosphere and service. Very good food.
The ocean view from the Sylvia is hard to beat. The service is friendly and the food fairly priced. Long visits with dear friends are my favorite experience at this restaurant.
Great location, service and value. Goo restaurant on site. Good view.
Hotel has a long interesting history.
Lovely people. Quiet room for sleeping, with a view of the ocean. Happily accepted our dog (who politely neither barked nor shed while there). All the charms of an old space. The bar/restaurant did a fantastic job of being covid safe and welcoming. Thefood was excellent. Highly recommend.
THE hidden Gem of Vancouver. This Pet and people friendly boutique hotel has long been the visual landmark of English Bay. The waterfront multi story brick facade is covered in vines that cool in the summer and explode with colour in the fall. The dining and lounge area has two distinct vibes that come alive at special times the locals understand and keep secret. The food is not my primary reason for being a regular. In short I encourage you to take a moment to sit and look around. I suspect you might see something special.
What can I say about the Sylvia. An iconic hotel with an even more iconic history. It's become an annual tradition to stay there for a weekend. The vibe is like nothing in the city. Use your imagination and you'll step back into time. If you can, get a room with a view. I recommend booking in advance. Adrianne at the front desk is great to work with. Why a 4? Mainly because the food selection could use an upgrade. Good news, there are many great restaurants within blocks. Try out Amici Miei for dinner - you won't be disappointed.
I really liked it here, nice hotel in great location !
A Vancouver landmark, for sure. Service is good but food is mediocre.
I had lunch with a friend here today. It was very busy however, if you have good company it's a lovely spot to catch up! Yes, I will come here again and try a Pimms at the bar. The staff were kind about my gluten free needs and kindly allowed me to start my reservations early.
Nice place, but no air-conditioning (and small in-room fan).
It was ok not bad not special was handy being at the hotel It has a stunning view of English Bay go in the afternoon it is special for the view
Love the old bar at street level. The West End's best hidden secret in plain view of English Bay. Perfect! Highly recommend.
Such a beautiful old hotel. And, the location can not be beat! Add it to your bucket list - you won't be disappointed.
Always a favorite. Could be classified as a heritage spot in West end. Great for drinks and or brunch.
Always enjoy the Sylvia Ceasar....hotel rooms were great for an old gal...really enjoyed my stay..
Best brunch I've ever had, with awesome views of the water. Depending where you sit the sun can be annoying on a clear day.
Manager is very friendly, Marc. I had great food & service made me feel like a child again. Would recommend to a friend... 10/10 #GoCanucks
Decent enough. Nice for lunch and the food is much better now than it used to be.
View was fantastic, we came around for the sunset. They gave us a perfect spot. Food, service and drinks we're good too.
Great hotel, beautiful building. Highly recommend the restaurant! Friendly staff, good food, nice view of English Bay.
Very good location, close to beach and high street. Large room and comfy beds, no complaints.
Beautiful old hotel in the heart of English Bay. Great neighborhood and convenient to a lot of restaurants, pubs and coffeeshops.
I felt sorry for my little kids sleeping on the hard, old, springy sofa couch and cot. Room and bathroom dated, definitely not a 4 star hotel. Restaurant food - meh. Location is the only thing it has going for it.
Excellent old-school hotel, cozy, and comfortable, with a historical ambiance and lovely detail work. Restaurant is downstairs, and the staff at both are very nice. Something to keep in mind: the seagulls will wake you up at sunrise.
Cindy, our server, was amazing and the food delicious
We didn't stay here, just went here for brunch. It was good, the one server was Soo funny and nice. Can't remember his name. For the life of me though. Views are amazing though.
Excellent location and dated hotel but we were happy
Lovely old building with lots of character. Very nice restaurant.
Comfortable hotel with friendly staff and some dog friendly rooms. The rooms themselves are clean, but a bit dated.
Standing at the check-in counter, I saw some deeply racist and condescending behavior towards the person in front of me from the reception desk staff. They were fine towards me, but that's not good enough in this day and age. The Sylvia Hotel is still living in the 19th century, in all the very worst ways. I will never come back.
Lovely view, decent drinks, good beer, over priced food.
Location is great. Right next to the sea wall and Stanley park. One big annoyance is that there is only one key for each room. Since I was sharing a room with someone we had to leave the key at the front desk every time we went out in case the other person wanted into the room. Also no continental breakfast, had to pay for breakfast
The restaurant offers a stunning view of the ocean. The breakfast was delicious
Worst restaurant service ever, waited for 50 minutes for a pound of wings
Location is amazing, it's an old hotel so the amenities aren't modern, but that's not why one stays at the Sylvia. Service is good, along with the bar and restaurant
Lovely place . I have been coming here every couple of years and have always enjoyed my stay.
Really enjoyed our stay!!!! Favorite hotel so far!!!!
Patio is small but a great place to chill out with a cold beverage and appy while watching the passersby.
Great views, fantastic staff, slightly on the expensive side.
Nice spot to have a breakfast or quick lunch. Great view of beach and bay
Great heritage place. Fantastic view of English Bay. Live music. Pet friendly. Reasonable pricing for hotel room.
Spacious suites. Updated historic but lots of charm. Good restaurant. Great location.
Spent a couple of Happy hour(s) here drinking a couple of glasses of the delicious red house wine with a friend. Didn't try any of the appies as we were headed to dinner elsewhere.
Wonderful view in the lounge. Food and drinks are ok.
Never actually stayed at the hotel but the restaurant is awesome. The lunch is great and the prices are awesome compared to the rest of the places in the area. The patio is one of my favorite spots to sit and have a drink in English Bay.
So as I said I stayed in atrium inn But they were booked for the night so I scrambled and I couldn't find a place and yet this place kept coming up. However all I would see was a s and an America we have something called knights inn that's real cheesy and gross And the s can reminded me of it at a glance. But once I actually looked it looked nice it wasn't a cheap rendition of the letter. So I have a cat that travels with us everywhere because that's how I roll and I just gave him a call up and said do you accept cats and they're like SURE I was like do you have a pet pee and they're like nope! And so I was like how much for a room for tonight? They told me I freaked out but then I realized I'm a dumb American and I had to convert the money and whenever I realize it was the amount that we were okay with including the parking price? I went ahead and booked it. Let me tell you what! Totally worth it! Now we're atrium had AC, this one did not however it had nice cool nights and we were facing towards old English Bay and the cool air coming off of the bay was just fantastic. The room oh my God! It was massive it was definitely a small apartment size. I was floored! Nice bathroom like there's just so much room and it was the highlight and we were so comfortable there. we thought we had to come home early otherwise we would have stayed another night cuz it was just my dad and I were just so blown away by Sylvia hotel. it was such a beautiful historic hotel you walk in and everything screams old world and yet it wasn't old world falling apart. It was old world still pristine. I almost felt like I was in the golden age of Hollywood when I was in there. I know I'm being really worried but deal with it! The pictures on the wall showed it way back and black and white or sepia colored pictures. The restaurant was a low pricey but my God it was so good. I wasn't that adventurous but I wanted fish on that night and so I got the fish and chips and I've never had better fish and chips. The chocolate dessert was amazing that cake was so good! The servers were very very kind the staff was very neat. I thought personally they use keys and I was ecstatic by that it was something I haven't seen in so long and the elevators are tiny but they're really neat cuz you can see the little pin going up so the old timey stuff. It was just search and neat experience that I truly feel like I will never forget that experience and if I ever need a hotel when I'm up there that's where I would go.
