Hotel Pennsylvania Review

The tub was chipping. The shower rods were rusting. The doors to the rooms were oh so very creepy.

Excellent location, okay breakfast, great customer service, fast internet. Will recommend for visitors of New York City. These are photos from my room window, street view of the city. Very beautiful

Waited 1.5 hours to check in. And hallway to room looked like a dungeon. Room was filthy and run down. Bed not made. Never again. And they say it's the most popular hotel in ny. I rather sleep outside.

This is probably the biggest most expensive s***hole I've had the honor of staying. I've traveled to 75 countries and it made me miss the crammed hostels in Hong Kong. You book a king bed, they give you two twins (tiny, as you feet stick out at the bottom, and I am 5'9); you wait 50min to check in and it was between 1am and 1:50am. The carpet is filthy, probably from 1919 when the hotel opened. As you sign in, you sign two small print disclaimers that if you stuff gets stolen, well, that's too bad, ktsi life. The room is so dark, cold and depressing that it made reach for the Bible... And I am have been an atheist for 15years.
Ah, the Bible was never found, probably stolen.

This hotel is in a very busy area and it's beautiful to an atmosphere with crowds of people during this time of year in December be shopping be checking out the size you right across from Madison Square Garden you will love this too a lot of shopping and a lot of sites to see beautiful

Hotel is located at prime area. Overall hotel is good. Only thing is they mix it up the number if guests w.r.t size of bed. Which is weird.
I will recommend it.

Stayed there a couple years ago with my family. Staff was really nice and made me feel at home. The beds are very comfy and the general manager was very helpful.

Terrible experience. We arrived late in the night because our flight was delay and we waited so long for the room. When we got the key it was almost 3am. Check out was early so basically we pay full day and we stayed only few hours. This was my second time in this hotel and I don't think I would ever stay here anymore.. Location is good in front of Madison Square garden. Rooms are very small, dust everywhere and we also experienced issue with water. We payed almost 350$ for few hours sleep.

First night they got me a dirty room which was not what I paid for. It's been more than 1 month since I came back from NYC and I still haven't received my refund, which they said they were gonna do quickly. Below is the room I got and the one I should have been given

Alright hotel with good pricing. It's a bed but very dated and sheets aren't super comfortable. Good value for staying in Manhattan.

Bathroom was not clean at all me and my friends 2 more people were disgusted with the tub look like nobody clean it for month! Getting in to the elevator was a nightmare! All the time! One of the beds the box spring was all rip off carpet old and dirty! Sealing in the bathroom the paint was coming down! Was supposed to stay 2 nights we made to 1 night and check out after one night because we refused to shower in never again

After reading bad reviews we were all scared of what was to come. I've stayed at 2 different hotels that have higher ratings than this one and this hotel was by FAR the best one. Check in and check out was fast and simple. The rooms were big and comfortable. The location was perfect from every landmark and right beside a subway. If you are thinking about staying here, think no more. Just do it!!!

Never, ever stay at this hotel unless you enjoy disgusting rooms, god awful service, and totally indifferent staff. I know it's cheaper than most hotel options; there's a reason for that. You're better off staying in a ratty Chinatown motel for $60 per night. At least you get what you pay for. This hotel is horrendous. AVOID AVOID AVOID

I really wish I could write a favorable review I can't find the words. Although this hotel is in a great location the place really needs a facelift. We checked into our room and was greeted by a large Roach crawling on the pillow that did not have a pillow case. Then we noticed dried blood on the pillow. We immediately went downstairs and spoke with Terrell (Manager on Duty) who put us in a different room. The room was small and as I said earlier needs a LOT of work. The hallway carpet needs to be replaced as well as in the rooms.
The pictures online DOES NOT represent the true appearance of the rooms. Old Linen, chipped paint, bathroom smelled of urine, bath tub had lots of cracks, bottom of bathtub had permanent black "stuff" in the bottom that looked like black cement, lots of old caulk around the windows and walls. Closet doors were beat up extremely bad. The refrigerator did not have shelves and was not plugged.
Hotel Lobby was extremely dirty with old peeling furniture and dingy curtains. We went to use the restroom in the lower level of the hotel and not only was it spooky, but it was very very dirty with trash all over the floor.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Beautiful view out of my window and the room was nice! One thing I noticed was the inside of valet door is pretty dirty, I know most people can not open them but if someone can open them, they need a little TLC. But over all awesome building of history you get to stay in!

The worst Hotel I have ever been to. Even Motels in the middle of nowhere are better. Dirty, dingy rooms. Wifi doesn't work, and it can take hours to check-in. Unfriendly staff. And if you want to leave your bags there for a couple of hours after check-out, they charge you 5$ per bag.

The place is awesome. The staff is welcoming and practical when it comes to solutions. The rooms are great. This is the heart of Manhattan and I'm glad I chose this hotel.

Most terrible place ever.. Pictures advertised are a joke, left within 2 hours after a huge cockroach crawled from under my bed.. Place should be condemed.. disgusting.. Just a heads up to all.. Don't waste your money..gross.. This dirtbag place should NOT be advertised.. If I could take away the one star I would , it won't let me post my thoughts so zero stars in words...oh yeah and hotel management, your doing a crap job!.you should be ashamed.. Worst hotel I have ever been to. The one star is for the lady at the check in. She was nice and helpful and made us feel very welcomed.

The room is filthy with dirty rugs and very old cabinets and walls. Bathroom looks creepy and everything is dated. I found hairs on my bed and kept worrying about if they ever changed the sheets or quilt. No one answered on the phone for guest service. Please, if you want to stay in Manhattan, you can find a much better hotel with similar price near World Trade Center.

Nice Hotel with excellent location! Nice spacious rooms. Offers breakfast which is an average one not that great,my pancakes were non edible. Besides that amazing experience in NYC. Would recommend it 100%

First thoughts on the hotel that its in a great location good price the room was big enough staff were helpful shower was a bit small but other than that great hotel I will definitely be coming back here cant beat it .

Checking in New year's Eve the checking in process keeps you in a line similar to what you find at an amusement park in the summer.. it literally took 1 hour and 20 minutes to check in and finally get the room that I had already booked and paid for. Waiting over an hour standing in a hotel lobby to get your room is enough to pay an extra $30-40 for a different hotel.

They call themselves the busiest hotel in the world.. it might be but quite possible is the least efficient in the world as well

This hotel is a disaster, the rate is very high for a very poor service, old and stinky carpets, air conditioner does not work, room and bathroom not clean and in very bad shape, looks like hotel owners and management believe they can charge high rates only because they are in a centric location, I felt they assault me with rates according the service we received, by the other hand, the personnel does not have good actitude to clients and they not colaborate neither treat well to passengers when some complain, comment or question is arised. My only recomendation is please do not book a room in this hotel or you will regret it.

Worst place I have ever stayed. Rooms were old and nasty. A mouse came to visit me in my room the second night..was only offered a $25 discount or a change of room. Horrible place..Expedia should remove thos hotel from their site until it goes under a major remodel.

Not as advertised as online the building is 100 years old and so are some of the rooms unfortunately they were clean but that doesn't make it better

The bell man help me to get customer service phone. I was very happy, it save my time & energy and the great thing is I didn't even ask anything to him. It's awesome

I've stayed there before, but it was never this bad. Our window was stuck open. We had 1 thin blanket and had trouble getting more when we called. There was a condom wrapper under the bed. The water in the shower would intermittently stop. When trying to check in and out, there were only 2-3 people working and lines that took 30 to 40 minutes. The guy working near the elevator was rude and made fun of us when we took the wrong elevator. The bar was closed abruptly at 1205 and we were kicked out with half of our drinks left. The location was perfect, and the price was lower than other hotels in the area, but it definitely was not worth it, and I will not be staying there again

Sucks... nothing good. No parking available, you have to pay private parking that wasn't good. Lot of guest and elevators was always full. My room was in the 12th fl and to go down most of the times had to use the stairs. We received tickets for complementary breakfast for a so little coffee place the hotel has in the lobby, couldn't used them. A line to get in the coffee shop was stupid long. Bathroom didn't have the shower curtains, no ice bucket, no mini refrigerator and when you see the hotel website says all the amenities. The pool, hot steam they advertised is in other building that you have to walk out of the hotel to use them. Small room and sheap small bathroom. I will never rented a room here again. I paid almost 800.00 for three nights. These place ripped me off

Considering the price I paid for the room (about $100 per night), it was a good room considering the prime location.
The hotel is fairly old and needs update for common areas and rooms.

My elderly, disabled mother went downstairs to have a cigarette. She had our room key, but nothing else. She knew what floor we were on, but had forgotten the room number. EVERYTHING was in her name. The desk wouldn't even let her call my cell to come get her or bring her ID. They wouldn't tell her what room it was (understandable with no ID) BUT all they had to do was ask her ANYTHING about our 4 night stay. Anything. It was ALL in her name. SS# address, phone number... Credit card used. IT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HARD. The manager wouldn't even help her. He acted like he didn't know what a hotel house phone was. Please. The rooms are slightly larger than a walk in closet. The bathroom has two EXTREMELY weak lights. Not even enough lighting for makeup application. There was ONE person behind the desk that tremendous my mother about the time my son and I went down to find her, he gave her the room number after almost an hour. She thought we might have gone to sleep. She was scared and had a panic attack. When I found her she was shaking and crying. This is not a woman with dementia. We had to change rooms for our last night, and she simply forgot the room number. I'm furious. It also took an hour to get a Blanket and extra pillow to our room at 2 am. I will NEVER stay here again.

WARNING!!! DO NOT STAY HERE! 3 HOUR WAIT TO CHECK IN!!! MOLD, SMELLS, RATS! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! If I could give it Zero stars I would have. And, my standards are not that high at all...we never pay more than $100 in NY but have had some amazing places...this is not one of them. The pictures on the website must be stock images because the room looked like the carpet was literally 40 years old -- faded, smelly, dank, you name it. The ceiling had mold, I mean, this was just all unacceptable. We arrived at 8:30pm to check in and didn't get a key till 11:10 pm. CRAZY. I have never seen anything like it in my 35 years of traveling!! Hope this saves someone from the nightmare experience we had. Safe travels!

This hotel was awful. After queueing for more than an hour just to checkin the room was dirty and had mould, tap didn t close either. Everything looked old and run down and I heard a couple guests come to complain bout rats in their room. The sheets were itchy and all in all my experience of the hotel was terrible not worth the money. The only good thing about the hotel was the location.

Be careful they do not pay your deposit back. Have moved for it many times without results!

Old. I love historical places but this place needs to be upgraded and brought into 1990 if not 2000. The room I was given smelled like mold and when I took off my shoes my socks immediately became soaked with water from the old wet carpet. Either the window was left open or the air-conditioner was leaking

Everything in the hotel reflects on the price that you pay! The free breakfast that you get is really bad and not enough to push you to lunch, but you can use the ticket to buy yourself a real buffet breakfast for only 10$. The best thing about the hotel is the location and the price. In the end you're in NEW YORK CITY and I dont think that you'll spend a lot time in the hotel. If you're on a strict budget than I'm recommending it, but if you have a more for spending there are many better places where you can spend your money.

Very old hotel. Good enough for the price. Good location in midtown

Only about half the elevators work in this old dingy hotel, so plan on spending a good hour going up or down to your room. The stairs are very vertical and cannot be used with large luggage. Checking luggage requires an additional hour of your time and costs $5 per bag. We booked two King rooms and got one king room and one double bed. The check in line is another hour. So, if you stay here to save a little cash, you will be spending a lot of your time in return. I recommend a few extra $$ to get a hotel with appropriate service.

Great location but hotel is appalling. Stayed there for 5 nights and was moved 3 times. Dirty brown water coming from the taps in 1st room. 2nd room 2 mice. 3rd room was much better and if we had been put in there on the 1st night there would be no complaints. Rooms are nothing like advertised. Queues and queues of people complaining. Some of the reception staff were extremely rude.This was our 4th time in New York and think it will be out last as this ruined our visit. I would avoid this hotel at all costs. Ive had to give 1 star as it would'nt let me post the review.

Don t let the pictures fool you. Our room did not look like this. The location was great and the room was spacious. It ended there. The sheets wouldn t stay on the bed and were pilly. There weren t enough towels and we had to call twice to get more. I think the towels were from the 80s. There was hair in the bathtub when I went to shower. I won t come back to stay at this hotel.

Doors are hard to use, it took about five minutes to gain entry. No parking available on the premises.

It was ok for a quick overnight trip. Clean enough. Not too noisy or crowded. Across the street from Penn station and Madison Square Garden. The bathroom was incredibly small and tight. And the AC wasnt working well, when I called reception to let them know I was told to open the window... while I'm on the 40 something floor?! I dont think so. It was fine for a night or if you're not going to use the room for a quick reprieve, but it was not luxurious by any means. I didnt venture around the lobby or bar so I cant comment on that.

The location is great but terrible terrible experience! you should be ashamed! here is how my 3 nights went:
1.The AC unit doesn't work! seriously? it was freezing and I couldn't use the heat, it's like sleeping on the streets!

2. Room service got into my room twice, once when I was sleeping at 2 am and another time while I was showering!

3. The bathroom door does not close, doesn't even fit the door frame , it's like 100 years old!

4. On our last day the elevators were broken (they work but will not get you to the Lobby, they will just keep take you up and down)

5. When I complained about my room I was told that they have renovated several floors but I have to pay more money to switch rooms.

I will never come back to this hotel and definitely NOT recommended to anyone.

The price is cheap! But I won't be back again because the rooms are terrible! It is not just small, but very outdated with suoerdark hallway and casket door.
You can pay upgrade to newly renovated room which is better but still very bad.

Great location in midtown Manhattan, it's opposite to msg. Close to times square, hop bus tour, Macy. 9 min to empire State building.
Lots of restraunts in walking distance. The room that was offered to us was old and needed renovation. We went to help desk and was offered a better room. Maria was very nice. The hotel location is a plus for easy commute for shopping and eating.

Our room had a flood and we had to endure the worst smell in that room, mildew, smelled like cat piss. They did nothing but put towels on the floor couldnt air dry it and gave us febreze which did nothing. And this was an upgraded room!!!!

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY UNLESS YOU LOLE ROACHES! This was the worst hotel to stay at. Very out dated, false advertisement as the rooms look nothing like the pictures, the floors are dark and gloomy, feels like your in Apartments in the projects! On top of it they have roaches ! They won t provide me with a full refund and I have to keep going back and forth. It s almost 2 months since my stay end of July 2019.

Old, dirty, loud, out dated. DO NOT stay here! Can't watch TV because you can't see it if you are sitting on your bed! After changing our room 4 times, we finally settled. This hotel needs to be completely revamped. The "bellman" wouldn't help us with getting our bags down to the storage area, even after they charged us $5 a bag to hold them! Everyday there was a huge line in the complaint desk. The staff was extremly rude, especially the redhead russian. if i could give this place a minus rating i would. IT IS HORRIBLE

Worst Hotel I've ever stayed in. The only good thing about it is the location. Check in took literally an hour and a half. They advertise free breakfast and wifi but then charge you a facility fee per day whether you use them or not. The breakfast is a joke - orange juice, coffee and a bagel. Staff is not helpful at all. The rooms are outdated and the place hasn't been renovated in decades. DO NOT STAY HERE

It's seen better days. The rooms are older, the place needs an upgrade, but it's a perfect location. The staff is nice, and the building is safe. As long as you don't expect a 5 star room you will enjoy your stay.

Not the greatest experience, but for a one night stay it was adequate. You're not really going to get your money's worth here, but for the location being right across from MSG, you're right in the heart of things, so the location is good. Took a long time to check in. The computer check in system wasn't working properly, then there was a very long wait to be helped in person. When we got up to our floor, there was a couch by the elevators that had duct tape over all the holes in it. I thought they could have at least had that fixed or covered up better. Doesn't make you feel confident in the rest of the place when you see that. Overall, not great, but like I said, for a quick stay, the location is what saves this place.

I wish I can post pics of how disgusting my room is. The bathroom especially. It looks nothing like the pictures. Everything about it. I would never stay here again. And the house keeping people come in your room without your permission constantly

I don t know why the other reviews were so negative. This hotel was great. Our room was nice and clean, the location is great and I love the lobby area. The staff were kind and accommodating and even moved us to a better room when we needed an extra bed for another guest. They didn t charge us for the room upgrade and the room had a great view. I d come here again.

A horror show of a hotel. In fact, it'd make a good setting for a horror movie. RAT INFESTED!!!

The only thing good about this place is how nice and clean the lobby is (Wish I can say the same thing for the room I was in) First thing first, I payed for a room online and printed out my receipt from e-mail. (Total was almost 200$ for 1 night!) So when me and my gf came to check in, there was LONG line alongside slow workers at the front desk. So, I decided to use the "automatic sign in" machines and when entering my conformation, etc. it keep stating that they had no record of me making a room! Thus, I asked for assistance and a man put a different set of numbers and apparently it took me to the check in. The craziest thing that happened when I was finishing checking in was how they wanted to charge me 100$ for insurance or some other policy! (NON-REFUNDABLE AND YES YOU HAVE TO PAY!) So, I did and my room cards weren't spat out from the machine & thus I had to go to another LINE just to make sure I get my cards! After a rough 37 mins, me and my gf finally went to our room where it was...bad. Stains on the inside dresser, bed sheets and curtains! The walls were thin so we could hear people talking in the hallway and if talk really loud, the people can hear you too (EVEN IF THE DOOR IS LOCKED / CLOSED!) Parts of the wall looked like they needed repainting ALSO There was also no hot water....

In my personal opinion, they should fix up this place (along side the rooms), fix their machines, get faster workers or entirely, SHUT DOWN!
If looking for a better place go to YOTEL (MUCH CLEANER AND YOU GET A FLAT SCREEN TV ON THE WALL)

Side note: When I was getting my room keys, the guy said that the wifi is FREE! PURE BULLSH*T! You have to log in and pay 20$ for a single day of wifi. SAVE YOURSELF FROM THIS PLACE!

Long and slow check-in lines, rooms are 20 to 30 years overdue for capital repair, suspicious bugs in the bathroom, free breakfast is a joke - an hour long line for a cup of coffee and a muffin.

We were attending a concert at MSG and were stranded in the city. This hotel is right across the street. Stayed on the 17th floor and the room was immaculate, smelled nice and huge. Beds were so comfy. Enjoyed our stay.

Location, location, location! Everywhere is super accessible. I never spend time in my room when in NYC so don't sweat the lack of elegance in a well priced room. It is clean and comfortable. The lobby has the old world feel.

This is a dump in a great area of New York. The room is clean but Damn that hallway reminded me of the hotel Cortez in American horror story only worse and god forbid your the only one in the hallway at night. Very dark gloomy. 160 a night across from

Scariest hotel I ve ever been to. Had to sleep with one eye open. I actually took my contacts out and never bothered to put my glasses on just to avoid seeing something gross inside the bathroom or bedroom area. Yikes. Stay away!

Never have I walked out of a hotel minutes after queuing over an hour to check in.

I never even got to stay at this hotel but their cancellation policy is rediculous I won't. E able to travel for medical reason and they want to charge me $128 to cancel a reservation 2 months away during a high tourist time they can keep their money and I hope before anyone makes a reservation here they don't get sick

DO NOT STAY HERE. We had just come off a 6 hour flight and had to wait in a 2 and a half hour line to check-in (I wish I was over exaggerating). The lobby looks lovely but going up to our floor and walking down the corridor was like something out of a horror movie. Opening the door of our room we were shocked. Smelt like mould and the room looked like it hadn t been cleaned since the 1930 s. The rocking bed and the loud traffic outside meant no sleep. We tried to avoid being in the room at all costs. On our final night, we had come back after a long day of exploring the city, tired and ready to sleep. As we were getting ready for bed, a mouse ran across our floor and under a bed. We immediately packed up as much of our stuff as we could and ran down to reception. We had to wait too long once again for service, and when we did get served they said they d have to put us on a lower floor room. We agreed as it was late and we were tired. Upon entering this room and getting settled in, we found cockroaches in the bathroom. Going back down to reception to complain, they told us to wait in our room and they would call us when they had another room ready. When we got back into the cockroach infested room (which by the way was at about 1am), we were sitting on our beds when we saw ANOTHER mouse run across the floor. Packing all our stuff up and going back to reception they said the only room they could put us in was a room with a queen bed and a glorified spring board roll up mattress. We were exhausted and just wanted to sleep as it was about 1.30am at this point so we agreed. The next morning when we went to checkout, the rudest lady at reception told us the only thing they could do for us was to refund us $20. $20?! After that abysmal stay and service?! She also told us we were not allowed to speak to the manager, and later when we called the manager he hung up on us. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND PAY A BIT EXTRA FOR A PLACE WITHOUT MICE AND HORRIBLE SERVICE! LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKE!

I loved it, location was fantastic, staff was nice even though check in was hectic. I got what i paid for! No bed bugs, clean room. I paid for a 1 bed room and the management ended up upgrading me to a 3 bed 6 guest room nothing extra included! I would definitely recommend it anyone going to nyc for a nice reasonable get a way!
