This hotel is in the heart of everything. Times Square, Broadway, Rockefeller Center, Penn Station, Korea Town, etc. are all extremely close and can be walked to.
The staff are friendly and very accommodating.
The hotel itself has a lot of history as it was founded in 1919 said to be the first hotel in the world designed from the viewpoint and to the benefit of the guest. They kept the original valet doors which were used by staff in the past to deliver dry cleaning and wine, papers were left every morning for the occupants, and the hotel hosted balls, meetings, and held cafes.
It sounded glorious, but it seems the current owners forgot to keep up with that. It looks like it hasn t been renovated since it first opened in 1919. Paint is peeling everywhere, the carpets are mangled or lumpy in places, hallways are dingy and creepy (Think the Shining and imagine the hallways there. Yeah...) the marble counters in the bathrooms are pulling away from the walls, the bathtubs are cracked and peeling. My current shower fluctuates wildly between steaming hot and lukewarm which is unpleasant and when I wanted to curl up on my bed after I found someone else s hairs on the fresh sheet.
For what it s worth, it s a good deal but I am positive that it wouldn t kill them to upgrade and give this poor historical landmark the love it deserves.
