You better get there early checking in is like a concert line. But they do have automated check - in kiosk if you already have reservations. Same thing checking out. Over all I had A nice experience .MSG is right across the street and at night it's very nice.

This hotel is in the heart of everything. Times Square, Broadway, Rockefeller Center, Penn Station, Korea Town, etc. are all extremely close and can be walked to.
The staff are friendly and very accommodating.
The hotel itself has a lot of history as it was founded in 1919 said to be the first hotel in the world designed from the viewpoint and to the benefit of the guest. They kept the original valet doors which were used by staff in the past to deliver dry cleaning and wine, papers were left every morning for the occupants, and the hotel hosted balls, meetings, and held cafes.
It sounded glorious, but it seems the current owners forgot to keep up with that. It looks like it hasn t been renovated since it first opened in 1919. Paint is peeling everywhere, the carpets are mangled or lumpy in places, hallways are dingy and creepy (Think the Shining and imagine the hallways there. Yeah...) the marble counters in the bathrooms are pulling away from the walls, the bathtubs are cracked and peeling. My current shower fluctuates wildly between steaming hot and lukewarm which is unpleasant and when I wanted to curl up on my bed after I found someone else s hairs on the fresh sheet.
For what it s worth, it s a good deal but I am positive that it wouldn t kill them to upgrade and give this poor historical landmark the love it deserves.

This hotel is definitely a dump! First room we had was dirty ceiling is falling down. Second hotel room they gave us had a mouse. The complementary breakfast line was at least 50 people long. They only thing that was nice what is the location! Also after they moved us to a third room the AC didn t work and it was horribly disgusting

This hotel is very well located in NYC, right in front of Madison Square Garden and close to the Empire State Building. However, the bedrooms were a bit old and not very well clean. The check in line was very long most of the time (see photo) and the hotel lobby is frequented by people who are not guests.

What a rathole. Don't get excited over their nice lobby. Once you get off the elevator you'll be treated to a Shining like experience. Run down rooms. Plumbing that doesn't work. Holes in the walls. Filthy, filthy, filthy.

Very marginal hotel in a great location. There is no bar or grill or cafe, but there is a coffee shop in the lobby. We had moldy ceilings, but the room had no bugs. We stayed here for a group function but if we were alone, holiday inn is close by, cheaper, and much nicer. Our room was tiny, while others paid less and had much larger rooms. This was a 5 star hotel in its day but virtually every grand thing about it has been sold, leased out, closed, boarded up, removed or covered up. There isn't much left to rave about.

It took forever to check in with a huge line in front of us and just 3receptionists to cater, though we had done the booking online. The room was filthy, with water leaking stains on the false ceiling. Carpet was dirty. Not worth the money we paid for a night.

Very dirty, smelly, mold on the wall, bathroom was not clean, hairs in the bathtub on the soap holder upon arrival. Found hairs in bedsheets. Water turns burning hot and ice cold every few seconds. Industrial style commercial toilet similar to walmart. Full of loud obnoxious people, security everywhere. Constantly hearing yelling, loud people through the room walls. Did not feel safe. Would not recommend.

Terrible experience. I booked for two nights and only stayed one and left starting from the careless hallway, carpets and doors..Our room was dirty and there was traces of dogs urine in the walls and odor all over the place.

I'm used to budget hotels but cleanness is a must.

Would not recommend to anyone, especially paying 180+ per night.

rooms were expensive. super convienent location next to MSG, however my first room had multiple holes in the wall, stains on carpet and no mention of lack of refrigerators in basic-mid level rooms. if they spent half the money on the rooms that they spent on the lobby it would be a phenomenal hotel. lobby is entirely new, rooms look 20 years old...

Walked through the doors into the hotel and everything looked SO GOOD but once the elevator doors opened to our floor.. everything went downhill from there. First of all, the hotel is super out-dated there s a distinct smell to the hotel and it did not smell good @ all.. not to mention the room ALSO had the smell which wasn t nice. And speaking of the room.. we came in and were disappointed. The room itself is probably a -1/5. The T.V. is so old, there s barely any furniture, the pillows are poor, the bathroom is embarrassingly bad; I felt like if I wanted to use the shower I were to have to wear some sandals because the floor grossed me out basically the bathroom is just another story and it sucked. The continental breakfast also sucks but luckily there were places nearby where you could something BETTER to eat.
Enough about the negatives.. the only GOOD thing about the place is some of the people that help you and the location; it was very easy to get to Times Square, Madison Square Garden is right in the front, and there are a bunch of nearby shopping spots.

Worst rooms ever. So old, so durty, the shower tube was falling, poor lights, smell terrible. Don't even think about it. Don't believe on the pictures they show. Those must be taken like 20 years ago. Don't even think about it if you want to enjoy your visit to NY.

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The whole place has a horror movie vibe too it which is not helped by the abandoned floor. Our room had a dirty carpet with a crushed pill trodden into it which clearly hadn't been cleaned. There was a tap in the floor for no apparent reason and expansion foam all over the edges of the room. The shower took about 5 minutes to get warm enough to think about going in. The lift also broke down when my friends were travelling going to their room. We did venture up to a higher floor which had a surprisingly decent sitting area - nice lights, big table and a projector? We sat and talked to some other people staying over that had a room on this floor and said it's a lot better than the one's downstairs but it still was hardly average. Great location bet let down by everything else.

Don t have a single complaint about this hotel - I have stayed here numerous times and have never once been unsatisfied. The staff is very professional and courteous. As of recent they have wonderful updated interiors that make you feel welcome and at home. Location is prime - you re in the heart of NYC and just a short taxi/Uber ride to wherever you need to go. I never hesitate to stay at Hotel Pennsylvania when visiting the city that never sleeps!

45 minute wait to check in to the hotel. Upon arrival at the room we noticed that a ceiling tile was leaking water onto the carpet, the window had a bar in place so that it could not be closed past 10 inches (and no screen was present to keep bugs out), the leaking ceiling tile had black mold growing on it and several other areas had mold, the bed had no fitted sheet only a regular sheet (too small to cover the length of the bed) tucked in loosely. On top of it all, bed bugs were seen on the bed and the walls. When we called the manager he said we could stay in the room or leave immediately and be refunded. We took the money and left. Worst "hotel" experience ever.

The pictures are PHOTOSHOPPED! stayed at this hotel for a weeekend, had to wait in line for 1.5 hr just to get my key. The rooms are very old. The only benefit about this hotel is the area but there are plenty of hotels with the same benefit. Free breakfast? Yea right....they give you a choice of 1 beverage and 1 pastry. Customer service is HORRIBLE. check out is at 11am, just to hold your luggage you need to wait in the line where you check in (the lines are always long).

Dont let the pretty google pictures fool you ! Doesn't look anything like the pictures.

This hotel sucks !

That s s hotel is terrible. I m not sure what s going on with the staff but it takes 2 hours to just check in. For some reason it takes the staff 20-40 minutes to check someone in. I spent 2 hours tryin to check in and twice when my key wasn t working had to wait another 2 hours to get a replacement. The rooms smell like death and it s filthy. The beds and pillows are extremely uncomfortable.

Decent hotel in the perfect location for your stay in New York city. There was mould on the surface of the bedrooms and bathroom walls. During our 5 day stay the rooms and bathroom were cleaned, rooms are poorly furnished and look like something out of an horror film. Showers look really old and only point in one direction however, on the plus side we did have a TV in our room with a variety of channels. I guess you get what you pay for!

Smaller than expected, but the bed was comfortable. Nice room very good price for the distance from my event venue. I was able to do everything I needed in the city. It was walking distance from Times Square. Most of the other hotels around this one were $80 more a night. I was very happy with my choice.

Too expensive for what it was offered. My room only have sheets, no bed covers. I ask for them because it is winter time and it was cold, but they didn t have any extra. Also I was in line for 1 hour to do the check in. Room was outdated. Also I reserved a room with 2 beds and I only got 2 small towels and 1 large one. I will never come back and I will not recommend this place to anyone

I stay here once a year or so for broadcasting conventions which are held in the upper floors. Do remember to check out on time or you will be charged another night. That s most places anyway.

The lobby is nice, but the food court only accepts cash, no bank cards so have some lettuce when you re in there. (It s New York, have lots a lettuce period!) The check in line moves slow sometimes depending on how many people they have (took me 50min to check in last time).

The rooms are old but they were clean and well-kept and had towels. That is what I like in hotels! I also shoot with a DSLR so If you re looking for a place to stay while you Shoot Manhattan and Times Square this is a central location to stay at.

Hello , I had read so many reviews on this hotel and was so scared but we still booked it as it was so close to everything . You will all be surprised we stayed in Plaza with lovely staff and helpful all our stay! I just guess people are dramatic and when it does not go their way they give bad reviews. The breakfast was okay. Take your own body wash as they provide is water down. The blankets they offer are okay. Elevator lines are longgggggggg. Be prepared to pay for you luggage5$ a bag. && the don t refund you your deposit still waiting on mine from June. The location is perfect and worth it just for the location and price.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!! The wait to check in was horrendous, the staff was rude, the management was totally ineffective and it goes downhill from there. Our room has mold on the ceiling, in the shower and the sink. Our towel rack was dirty and rusted. The outlet where the extremely dated and rusted a.c. unit was plugged in is rusted over. The water goes from hot to cold the entire time you're in the shower and the sink water didn't get hot at all. Every surface we touched including the phone and tv remote was so greasy and grimy we had to make a stop at a store to buy bleach and Lysol and cleaned the entire room just to feel comfortable sleeping here. The hotel charges $40 per night per person on top of your room for incidentals and amenities but they don't offer anything by way of amenities. There's no ice bucket or coffee machine, there's no breakfast options and if there are no one told us anything about them. We haven't seen a cleaning crew for two days so we're very lucky we brought our own towels. There are many stains on the walls that look like blood and feces and the carpets are threadbare and extremely damaged in spots. If I could give this place zero stars I would.

Step 1) Take a once grand hotel and put into new ownership.

Stayed at Hotel Pennsylvania for two nights and everything in the hotel room was perfect! I would give the hotel five stars with the only downside being the length of the check out line and available clerks at the front desk. The whole time I was there the lobby was full of people but only about three clerks working the front desk. Other than that, the place was well worth the stay and will stay here again if I'm ever in the New York area, again.

Stay Away!!!!Stay Away!!!!Stay Away!!!!Stay Away!!!!Stay Away!!!!Stay Away!!!!. Me and my family had to spend three night, but literately my family was crying after seeing the room. That was the worst hotel room i ever see. Better to sleep on street instead this hotel, rooms are worst more dirty then road/street. Hotel and room carpet may never washed or cleaned in last 50 year, it always stinking.
What I found in my room:
Closed light broken, hanging and not working.
Bathroom door never close fully no way to lock it, had to use bathroom with unlock good all the time. when i report hotel staff they said they are not aware of but it was like the door never been closed maybe for years.
Comforter /blanket cigarette bunt
hardly found two working wall socket to charge my phone.
Room Carpet - please dont ask - it give the feel like walking on hill ups and down. 1,2, 3, 4 year kid definitely can not walk and would stuck.
I can share pick if any one needed

After hotel response: you still expect me to stay, I will never choose penn not even if you make it gold plated. if you already know your rooms are worst then why are you looting people sell that rubbish rooms and ruining people's vacations ?

Worse hotel I have ever been, I don t recommend this place to anyone.
I did the check in on January 1 and The staff is super rude, the hotel it s a garbage and they let you waiting a long time to get into the room, and if you need to go to the washroom you have to get the damm key that they will only give you after the check in. After get in the room I try to call the reception thousand times and they never answer, I was in my room and I felt smell of smoke coming from God knows where so I tried to call again and again no answer, so I called from my phone the general number they finally answered and when I said about the smoke they said that it was from the elevator and someone was there trying to solve the problem I asked some questions and she put me on hold forever, so I went to the hallway and I saw nobody there. I m afraid to sleep because I don t know what s going on Totally 0 star for this place!

Had such a blast in New York we took the train from JFK as were walking up the steps to ground level my son said how are we going to find a hotel, we got to the top and directly in front of us is hotel Pennsylvania. It was very nice picking up a light breakfast cup of fruit and a bagel or pastry with a cup of water coffee as options A little disappointed there. I have stayed here on 2 different occasions and my experience for both was negative overall. The price tag of $50 (closer to $100 after tax and "resort fee") and the location were good, but everything else was bad. Both times, the line for the front desk took forever and there was something wrong with my room. The first time I had no water from the shower and they failed to fix it when I brought the problem to their attention. The second time, the toilet flush was broken. What really ticked me off about my 2nd visit, however, was the fact that they charged me money to store my luggage when my room wasn't ready at 12:30 even though the check-in time they gave me was 11:00.

Old. Chipping paint everywhere. No ice bucket, wash cloths, or outlets near the bed. Mattress was incredibly thin as were the pillows. Like sleeping on a box covered in a thin sheet. Mold covered the curtains. The worst part was the a/c did not work and it was boiling hot in our room. When we inquired about moving rooms, the lady at the front desk claimed that all ac's are off for the winter. What?! I should be able to adjust the temp in my room to make it comfortable! Aside from the location, this place doesn't deserve to be in operation. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!

We stayed 6 nites. It really is a pretty bad hotel. I would not stay here again in spite of the pros. We began to develop a pros/cons list as our stay progressed.
Cons
Lobby nice, but carpet in halls above lobby was old, stained, frayed, grungy looking. Very, very old.
Our room door entry knob was difficult to work, after 4 days it completely broke.
Staff over 6 days was predominantly not nice or friendly. There were a few shining exceptions to this overall attitude.
The room had peeling paint. Lamp shade ripped. Very dated, shabby, not well maintained.
Mattresses old, should be updated.
Room not well lit.
The electrical outlets so worn that your plugs would just fall out of them.
ALWAYS a queue at the front desk.
No concierge, though there was a tour desk rented by 3rd party.
AC off for season, we arrived 10/31 & it was quite warm our 1st few days.
Pros
Room was clean.
Adequate elevators for # guests
Good free wifi
Breakfast-juice & pastry-1 per but usually long queue
Location-subway easily accessed. Walk to Times Sq & Broadway.

Our room was changed after our door knob broke. The employee sent to assist us was not at all helpful, friendly, and offered us no assistance with the move up 1 floor.

Great location, great wifi but that is not enough to overcome the unfriendly service and deteriorated state of hotel.

Honestly even giving this hotel one star is not worth it. This hotel should really be shut down by the department of health. This hotel is fill with mold, the room are nasty, carpet I wouldn't even let my dog walk in it. The staff are very unprofessional. I asked to change room because I'm pregnant and have allergies and the room they putted me in room 1175 is discussing very moldy, the window open to all the nose n can not be closed. I don't usually write reviews but as someone in the health department I feel like the condition of this hotel can put ones health at risk. Do yourself a favor don't go there. Worst experience. Just checked in after 2 hrs waiting online. They only had 4 guest service workers on duty. It literally took less than 2 minutes to check in. I gave my ID and swiped my card. Guest service didn't even tell me where to find elevator or what floor my room was at. My room is terrible. You can't sit on the bed on the side cause it tends to want to flip over. Walls have paint patches all over. Outlets are all torn apart. Dust is all over the room. Bathroom is filfty. Do not book in this hotel if you have allergies, have OCD. It's only good if you going to spend your day out in the city and just need a place to crash later.

So..reading the reviews I was a little skeptical, ...

So..reading the reviews I was a little skeptical, plus I made reservations through a somewhat weird hotel agency (Gala Hotels), check out my review of them too). When we arrived, the hotel is massive, the largest hotel I've ever stayed in. The lobby is more like an airport, but beautiful. We arrived around noon, knowing that check in was at 3. TIME SAVING TIP: Call the hotel the day before and ask for your reservation number. We managed to check in at the kiosk, walked up to the front desk and they gave us our hotel room. Since we were so early there was hardly any line and we managed to get in super early! This may have been a fault in the system but it saved us so much time (also..i heard people who did not check in at the kiosk or have a reservation number that it was an extra 50 dollars to check in..we really beat the system somehow) ! Now..the hotel is not that great. You can tell that BACK IN THE DAY..this place was THE place to go. Now..its just worn out..tired..and needs a facelift. Since I'm a fan of anything haunted..this place was amazing. The door had a sign that said it was made in 1919( I was hoping for Sarah Paulson to come out one of the rooms, but alas, just some tourists). Our room was actually fine. It was huge...if it was updated..the rooms would be beautiful..for a room in NYC.. it was massive. The beds were average..nothing great...bathroom was old, the shower was fine. BUT..on the flipside..I saw no infestation with mice..no stains or mold or anything like that. Just a hotel that needs some TLC. Would I stay again...maybe..for a quick last minute trip to NYC, you couldn't beat the price. Check out was super easy too. All in all..it wasn't as bad as most of the reviews..however..there's around 1700 rooms..so I can imagine we were just one of the lucky ones.

We waited in the check in line for well over an hour only to learn they overbooked their rooms. Sent us to another hotel last minute at 1 a.m. Now I am learning they are not refunding our stay because they claimed we "no showed." I have stayed at this hotel before, but will never attempt to again. Their prices are appealing, but the room we stayed in was very dated and poorly maintained. Now I am learning they will try to keep your money even if they won't let you in a room.

There's a lot to f things that can be said about the Hotel Pennsylvania. It is inexpensive, and it is clean. If you like crowds and the smell of trash and urine and frantically searching for bathrooms and food vendors that aren't brimming with feces, by all means venture a night near penn station. This hotel is not the worst. Its old, which is nice. It will not choke your life with plastics and neon in the way some newer places do. There are many scenic views down long hallways. Every floor looks the same and if you run very fast barefoot the carpeting will remind you of an exciting time when you should have stayed home.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, but cigarette smoke has permeated the halls and doesn't look like it has been updated since 1919. There were exposed wires and outlets without covers in the room, mold was all over the bathroom, I found things under the bed from previous guests... The walls were so thin that you can hear every move your neighbor makes. Also, be prepared to wait for at least an hour or two at the check in line, and, if your key card stops working (all of ours stopped working and couldn't even be reprogrammed, that's when they pulled out the new key cards), you'll have to wait in that same line.

I'd give it a higher rating, but it took nearly an hour and a half to get checked in after midnight (lobby kiosks didn't work). I see a lot of complaints on here about the room sizes and conditions. Do yourself a favor and opt for the bigger room with the King sized bed, definitely worth the extra 20 bucks. You absolutely can't beat the location, I took the Amtrack from Philly and literally walked across the street from Penn Station and I was in the lobby. I'll likely stay here again.

This was honestly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We found it on Groupon and the pictures looked okay so we gave it a shot and payed a little more for a better room (updated Queen size room). THE PICTURES ONLINE ARE NOT AT ALL WHAT THE ROOMS LOOK LIKE. Everyone I've talked to who has stayed there in a variety of different rooms has agreed. The bathroom was so old and gross I wore shoes and did not touch the sides of the burning hot then freezing cold then hot again shower. Oh yeah and complementary breakfast of ONE pastry and ONE juice are offered IF YOU CAN EVEN FIND WHERE IT IS LOCATED because it's not in the hotel. When you do find it you'll be disappointed anyways. Now onto the coffins on the doors and the dreary room setting... it was like I stepped into a morgue.... actually I'd have preferred to sleep in a morgue because at least their AC works lol PAY FOR SOMETHING BETTER YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!
