beautiful historic hotel, great place to spend a few hours just walking around.
No idea how nice the rooms are, since I'm not going to spend that much to sleep just a few miles from home.
Great beach. Ice creme shop. Bar. Restaurant. Gift shop.
Go at Christmas to see festive decorations.

My husband and I just spent two nights at the Hotel Del Coronado. We will not be back , nor will we ever refer any one to that property. It is a historic hotel on prime property. The room we had in the Victorian section was cramped but had nice amenities. It was a very expensive room.
What was NOT good was the help or lack of service we received there all over the hotel. From the front desk to the shops downstairs to the bartenders that ignored us for a simple glass of wine and the hostesses in the restaurant. We checked out and saved our money for a lovely hotel in La Jolla where they care and they take the time for everyone.
This hotel gets so many guests and tourists that are not hotel guests and then the hotel guests get treated poorly at best.
I realize it is a tourist attraction and conferences are in and out of that place. It pays the bills. We came to relax and enjoy and to get some nice service. We only ate one meal there because of our experience.
There are many choices in the San Diego area and it doesn't matter what your location is or the history if you repeatedly are inconsiderate and rude to your guests.

Beautiful location on the beach and great tables with fire pits in the middle. Drinks are more expensive than surrounding bars. The waitress was a little irked that we wanted a table with a fire pit after she had closed the area down, even though is was nearly two hours from closing time. We didn't have any food. If you're willing to pay for the location it's a great place to enjoy an evening drink.

This elegant hotel brings beach fun and luxury together. The hotel has a beach umbrella rental service that everyone can take advantage of. If you are passing through then make sure to park on the streets close by. Meters are .25 cents per hour with a 2 hr maximum. The best part about the drive to the hotel is the famous Coronado bridge. What a thrill and for those daring enough try the far right lane.

Stayed here with my wife and 8 month old daughter during a work conference. The hotel is being renovated as things are very dated. We were presented at check in with an upgrade. We took the upgrade and were given a room that may have been nice in the 80s. I had no clock or even outlet to charge my phone on my side of the bed. I would have been fine with all of this except when checking out was presented with a bill that was $450 more per night than I was expecting. Since I was leaving at 4am there was no manager to speak to. After 5 calls and 4 emails there still has been no manager to speak to. I guess the staff at the Coranado enjoys swindling people and then ignores their calls and emails. I was expecting better service from both Hilton & a Hotel with such a long-standing history & reputation as the Coranado.

Historic and beautiful! My friend and I sat on the deck and enjoyed drinks and the best guacamole we've ever had! It's expensive to park there, but as long as you spend $25, they'll validate your parking and it's greatly reduced!

Tourist trap. Avoid. The hotel tries to squeeze every penny from the guests without offering much in return.

Recent stay at the Hotel Del Coronado - I rarely post any negative reviews, I often like to share my good experiences, but couldn't stay away this time. I have to admit. I always wanted to stay at this beautiful property, with its incredible historic landmark and wonderful beach. In my mind, I was hoping to see something similar to The Luxury Collection Resorts from Sratwood, now Marriott, but it is not by very very far. I booked an entry level room with a balcony for $500 a night at the Beach Tower. The hotel is undergoing a significant renovation, and it's not specified on the website at the time of booking in any way. Our room balcony was overlooking precisely that - the construction site. When I complained, the hotel representative told me that the hotel is sold out and they can only offer a $150 refund. You can do calculations now and figure that for $350 a night I was enjoying construction site view, a good deal I guess :) But other small details show the lack of quality as well. When asked about $35 resort fee, the receptionist told me it was for water, Wi-fi, use of gym and Netflix. Steep price for water, considering it's complimentary in the majority of top hotels. When we tried to use Netflix in the evening, the room service representative told us that we need to log in with our credentials, which doesn't make it "free." I went to a yoga class in the morning and yoga equipment was ancient, cheap yoga mats, no yoga blankets or bolsters. When we tried to ask for a couple of flutes for champagne for our room, the wait time for delivery was 1 hour. The Beach Tower building is run down, with old furniture and carpets and dirty windows, I understand that the Main building must stay true to its historical value, but why the more modern architecture has to be in such bad shape is not understandable.

My advice for people who want to see the beautiful Hotel Del Coronado - stay for half price in a hotel like Marriott Marquise San Diego Marina across from the island and take a Ferry or an Uber to Coronado (about $10 one way for two people). You can make a great day trip, enjoy a drink at the beach, a tasty lunch at the nearby French restaurant and excellent shopping. Maybe after renovation, Del will be better, but for now, lack of attention to details suggests to stay away from it.

GIMME A BREAK ! My wife and I brought our visiting Aussie friends here for a look last Sunday. Of course it is a very popular tourist destination and with the weather being perfect it was incredibly crowded. When we arrived in our friend's rental car we opted for the $25 valet 3 hour parking which was conditional on a minimum $50 spend at the hotel. We sat at a table on the terrace outside overlooking the beach to have drinks. We ordered a glass of red wine and 2 glasses of Stone IPA beer which came to just over $40. The beers were listed at $10 a pop so the red wine was getting close to $20 for the glass. We left an almost $10 tip so we would reach the $50 minimum spend for the valet parking. If you want a nice view, overpriced local beer in plastic cups and disco punk being played very loudly by the DJ then this is the place to be...but not for me !

Even though we had some issues with service and acomidations, The GM made it right with us. I found them to take the higher ground to offer their sincere apologies and we came to a happy compromise.
Hats off to the Del. You have restored my faith in humanity.

Cool spot out in Coronado - even if you don't/can't afford to stay at the Hotel, (which seems quite nice), don't miss out on the great little ice-cream shop on the first level, nestled amongst some other shopping-options which one might be surprised to find hidden away here..

Love the environment, and all the special events they put in throughout the holidays. Service was spectacular, if not a little expensive, but you definitely get what you Pat for. Even coming during the winter is a treat since the California weather keeps things warm all the way til sunset.

Wanted to get married on the beach here in 2017 when we planned it in nine days, but couldn't get our timing right. My husband and I got to the beach at night that year and felt the soft sand and saw it glisten in the moonlight, but it wasn't until this past September that I actually got to see the inside of the hotel and beach during the daylight. My mother in law was amazed and I thought she was going to be moved to tears when she saw the orchids in the reception, vintage elevator, exquisite wood paneling, and beautiful birds of paradise in the courtyard.

While my husband was at SD Zoo, I got to spend the day there with my inlaws and we talked about how gorgeous the property is. There was a business function and dinner outside on our way in and a live Beach Boys cover band that we all really enjoyed. Couldnt have been a better day. Can't wait to come back. I'm hoping I can renew my vows on the beach here one day!

We didn't stay here but drive over to take a look and have lunch. Gorgeous property. The beach is amazing. Valet parking is $20 for three hours as long as you have your lunch receipt. Beautiful walk and yoga on the beach.

A very old hotel with 1880 s style architecture located on a very nice beach. There was considerable construction work going on at the hotel during our stay so it was a bit noisy. The restaurants there were extremely overpriced with a hamburger running in the $33.00 range. No free coffee at all in the lobby in the morning but there were coffee makers in your rooms. Bottled water supplied to your room was not free and was added to your incidental bill at the end of your stay. Fortunately there were several restaurants within a short walking distance that were reasonably priced and well worth the time it took to walk there. The rooms were small and the carpeting really needed to be replaced. I would probably never stay there again.

Let's be clear about one thing. This is not a "hotel" this is a luxury resort that is also a historic landmark. Granted if you stay at the resort exclusively you can rack up quite a bill, but you are also on Coronado island which is packed with a number of amazing restaurants as well as from what I understand, is the best beach in the San Diego area, so it CAN be affordable if you are smart. Personally I felt that the history of the place was well worth staying there. The true value of this landmark is lost on Americans who rarely see a building that is over 50 years old.

Me and my wife stayed here a few weeks back for a work conference and had such an amazing time and then there was the food gotta love it all. The staff were so accommodating and genuine which made everything so cherry. We actually came back this past weekend to see all the wonderful Christmas displays, it was so beautiful and fun. I know it's not enough but just wanna say thank you for the awesome experience!

Only been here to visit their shops and restaurants. Always busy, but there's a lot of outdoor space and things to do. The beach behind the hotel is nice to walk around in. I'm sure if you are an overnight guest, you can expect five star service. The hotel itself is an icon for San Diego and if you're a Disney fan like we are, it's cool to know the Grand Floridian at Disney World is inspired by the hotel.

Unfortunately not the experience that I had expected. The staff were overwhelmed and could not accommodate their guests property. Many complaints about delivering and picking up luggage. Valet was over busy and running late. Room was okay but had an unpleasant odor. Bathroom was small but this hotel is 130 years old. The experience would have been a lot more different if they had staffed better.

I visited the hotel del Coronado because it is a beautiful old building. The bathrooms, shops, gardens and cafe are very nice/useful when walking along the beach. The restaurant seemed a bit pricy - at least the bacon bourbon milkshake was $21.

Classy, historic landmark hotel with upscale shops and restaurants on site. Great views of the beach. Some of the older rooms felt a bit musty, but the overall feeling is one of old California prosperity and wealth.

Absolutely awful. Received a delapitated room with mold, rust, broken or damaged furniture a buckled floor, subpar air conditioning and this is supposed to be a 4.5* hotel? Save your money, go to the Manchester Grand Hyatt or Bay Front in the Gaslamp instead.

It was my first visit to San Diego. My friends knew about the Hotel del Coronado from numerous previous visits. We decided to take the ferry and have dinner. The food: fabulous. The views: stunning. When I bring my wife to San Diego I know where we'll stay.

The hotel is absolutely wonderful. An iconic monument in Sand Diego history. Everyone who lives in southern California needs to experience it. The area and beach is also clean and wonderful.

We went for mothers day. Definatly not as good as the normal weekly brunch. It was $40 dollars more. But do not go on a holiday. Much better during there regular buffet. During the regular brunch much better. It is 100.00 so for special occasions but great.

its a san diego classic but i don't believe to be worth it. especially if you're from sd. $600 a night for a very mediocre room (with a view tho) it was nice, nothing special. Check in gal was very rude and very confused with our booking. very expensive drinks but it is the beach! Anyways, I would recommend trying some boutique hotels on island and going to the del for a day trip

This gets 5 stars for one reason above all others: The Hotel del Coronado is an American landmark. Outside of that fact it would probably be a 4, or maybe even a 3 if I were having a bad day. Here's the pros and cons:

Pros:
-The rooms, dated as they may be, are very spacious and well-appointed. Ours even had a massive courtyard-facing balcony. They'd do well to sweep them more often, but still, it was absolutely special. Biggest hotel balcony I'd ever seen.
-Nothing beats sitting in the hot tub and just looking up at that iconic tower. You know you're somewhere truly important.
-It's right on the sand and the sunsets can't be beat.

Cons:
-Although they're apparently working on an underground parking structure, currently the only option is valet, for a whopping $50 a night. Listen, dude. We're not all pulling up in Rolls Royces, and I feel both silly and ripped off valeting my 2013 Honda Accord.
-The drinks are weak and overpriced.
-For being the resort to end all resorts, the pool area is a bit lackluster and the grounds in general just feel a bit beat up and in need of some maintenance. Again, it's obviously an old property, but come on. It's a flagship hotel and we're paying flagship prices. Keep it immaculate.
-Everything except the Domino's down the street closes early. Not a good place for night owls like us, coming from Vegas.

Hotel was a bit aged, but regal inside the public areas and very comfortable in the rooms. We got the ocean view room directly looking over the beach, just wish we could have checked in earlier to enjoy the room. There were two pools, while the main pool had cabanas they were mostly occupied by kids. Not to worry, there was an adult only swimming pool as well. I also liked that the hotel had exercise events and movies on the beach. The best part was the hotel service. They were very accommodating and absolutely made sure our stay was amazing from beginning to end.

We had dinner at the Sheerwater Restaurant. Simply one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Everything from the appetizers to the cocktails were prepared perfectly. While you might wince at the bill, trust me, the meal you'll get justifies it.

The hotel was very impressive and rich in history. We had the best time wandering all over the hotel and town. We enjoyed the restaurants, the shops, biking, ice skating, exploring the area and best of all the beach. Everyone was professional and helpful. We love the Casita on the beach and the service was impeccable. We love that Hotel del Coronado accepted our Hilton points, something new.

Iconic hotel that has a huge footprint on Coronado Island. Numerous spots in all sorts of places with views in all directions. Food and Beverage options galore. Pool overlooking the beach is pretty epic. Beach hut on beach is fun.
Lots to do and see in this area.

Fantastic summer getaway location. When we arrived, we were treated with nice soothing fruit juice. We requested an ocean view room. Fantastic rooms. Coronado Island is a fun little place to walk around and spend the day out and spend a romantic evening at the hotel. You have to see if you can see the ghost that's in the hotel. Read the story of that before you go. This is one of my favorite getaway places.

I live only 30 min from this hotel however I plan to one day stay the weekend here. In the meantime I have enjoyed many of their excellent meals from a Glamorous New Year's Eve to an elegant Mother's Day Brunch.

The building is lovely and so rich in history, including a ghost story.

Every winter they host an Ice Arena right there on their lawn for Skating by the Sea. It's quite an experience skating with an ocean view, and typically a sunny, not so cold, winter day.

The extensive beach is gorgeous. Perfect for a day with the family or romantic walk on the beach.

Be sure to visit their gift shop for some great souvenirs including a cookbook with recipes from the Hotel Del.

Last but not least, the location on Coronado Island is such a wonderful community to check out. From historic buildings to shopping. It's a great place to spend some time enjoying a beautiful San Diego day!

It is one of the most beautiful and elegant Hotels I have ever seen! All of the people we interacted with were friendly and helpful. I would love to actually stay here one night instead of just having lunch.

This is definitely an interesting historical hotel, one of the largest wood buildings in America. We are spoiled being from vegas in that there is always a 24 hour food option, late night room service here is non existant. Anything after 10pm is a deli sandwich. Be prepared for $15-$20 everything. Right on the beach. Good experience

Spent our wedding night at the Hotel Del and even though it was only one night it was fantastic! My bride and I had always dreamt of staying there and we finally did. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day... Thank you Hotel Del, you were wonderful.

Beautiful hotel except for when they are sandblasting and painting outside on your balcony. Notified the front desk and did get a sorry about that . Enjoyed the beach and sunset bar/restaurant. The room was ok once the workers left our area except when we tried to have coffee on the patio and cement shavings from the cleaning 5 rooms down pelted us.

Highly disappointed with our stay. 1st night our air conditioner was out so they sent us for a fire on the beach while repairs were made. Appreciative of the kind gesture, but after a long day of travel, just wanted to rest. When we returned to our room, repairs were still in progress. They finished around 11 pm, leaving a mess and water dripping into the shower from the air conditioner. The bedding had stains which they changed, but seriously gross. The bathroom had black mold all around the ceiling. The wooden blinds were filthy. We were guaranteed these things would be addressed while we were out all day...they weren't. Room service items were left in the hallways for 2 days at a time, which made it smell funny. Just disappointed in the service overall. This wouldn't be my 1st choice if we returned to Coronado.

Construction at the hotel starts at 7am, so if you desire sounds of the ocean, forget it.
The RUDEST staff I've encountered in a Hilton property.
A former San Diego local, I didn't read reviews (shame on me).
