My birthing experience at Holy Cross was less than desirable. I had to be induced and was forewarned that admission to the hospital was based on the availability of rooms. I was admitted the morning after my schedule admittance. I was asked my birth plan which I indicated that I wanted to receive pain medication when my pain was about at a level 6. It took two days to get there, but once I did, I was expecting to receive pain relief. They however, did not have an open birthing room to admit me to and could only give me a epidural and nothing else for the pain. I was told, the epidural could not be administered until I was admitted to a birthing room. I did not get admitted to a room for another 6-8 hrs and only after indicating that I needed to push and felt the baby coming. I was quickly swept away to a room administered the epidural but by time the medicine kicked in, the baby was already coming. It was a unexpected experience for me. I did not expect to go almost my entire labor without any sort of medication. My baby was delivered within 30 minutes of being in that room. It didn't help that I was moved to a cramped recovery room after the birth which I was told would be switched once another room opened up. We asked several times to move rooms, because it was difficult for the nurses and doctors to move around in the room, it was so small. I never received another room. In being discharged from the hospital, almost all of the rooms on that floor was empty. Just an unpleasant experience overall. I felt ignored and dismissed, and was ultimately forced to give birth outside of my birthing plan.
