These guys are top shelf. I purchased a commuter bicycle, then a road bike and then a mountain bike. Their inventory is great. The location is convenient and their service is quick and very reasonable. They really are a full service bike shop and the employees are always very helpful. I recommend Higher Ground without reservation.

Drove 4 hours to this place before talking to them on the phone the day before. On Shimano website they are a Shimano service center which when I brought them my Shimano powered bike they said they couldn t promise me anything when I already a warranty claim on the motor and just need them to verify the problem but was soon ran out of the store declined service on my bike from either the owner or shop manager. They were not professional at all being they have valid signs and poster stating the authenticity of the Shimano service/dealer. Keep in mind the shop Owner manager told me the head mechanic is leaving in two days so happy I didn t keep my bike there!
Fantastic customer service by the team at Higher Ground. After discovering a badly worn headset bearing on my Surly during our cross country ride, we were hoping for a fix in Tallahassee. Higher Ground had the part in stock and worked quickly to get us back on the road again. Fast, friendly service including a great customer lounge to wait in. A well stocked shop too, with good range of apparel, parts and accessories. Would definitely recommend.
The folks at Higher Ground have treated me like family for the past several years. They answer every question I have, and go out of their way to make sure I am completely satisfied with every new bike I have purchased. They have been a tremendous advocate for me when I have had warranty issues. Todd, Judy, Marcus, Scott, and the rest of the gang are diehard riders who want to share the stoke with all their customers. If you haven't been to their shop, check them out. You'll enjoy the experience.
It s all about service baby! Matt is fantastic. Spent a ton of time Doing reseach to help me find parts when we didn t have the bike or old parts. Wasn t a big sale, but it was huge customer service.
Higher Ground is an excellent full service shop for the discerning biker. I was surprised when they matched the price of a set of high-end wheels I found online!
After finding what seemed like the best bargain helmet on a blog online I decided it was time to make a purchase. After finding that the online shipping costs were substantial, I decided to see if I could do better. The producer's website, Specialized, said that they were carried here at Higher Ground. Came in to pick up the helmet and was pleased to see that the price was exactly the same as advertised online. Was grateful to be able to try to helmet on in the store as opposed to buying blind on the internet. This store actually beat the online price by $3 or so because the tax added was lower than the shipping cost. Great deal!
Wow! So impressed with this bike shop! I took my four-year-old with her Cinderella bike because the chain kept falling off. The team worked together to explain the repairs and quickly fixed her bike with no problem whatsoever. She took such delight in the entire experience! Would highly recommend their services!
Folks if you think customer service and affordability is a thing of the past, you might want to visit Higher Ground to restore your faith in both. Roger and his team are without a doubt the most helpful and fair minded group that I have encountered anywhere in a long, long time. Other local area businesses could get well schooled by this bunch and their business model. Their products and services are very fairly priced and I've NEVER been up-sold by them. They are low key... no pressure and unlike some other shops they are NOT condescending hipster bike snobs... just real people doing a really professional job. I love nothing more than cycling but I am one of those riders that really doesn't care much about the nuances of the bike or major repairing it myself. They really seem to get that... and its ok. For the record, I have no personal affiliation with anyone at Higher Ground... just a repeatedly and 110% completely satisfied long term customer. Go see 'em! They're a breed apart.
We always love doing business with Todd and the crew!! Great group of people that love what they do. They are up to date on the latest gear and in most cases already have it in the shop.
This is the place to purchase your next bike! Judy was our sales assoc. and was so knowledgeable, professional and kind as was each of the persons that worked with us. The result is we walked out with a bike rack, two great bikes and a relationship we know will last.
A fantastic shop to work with. I have purchased three bikes for our family there and everyone has always been super helpful. I feel comfortable with my family in there because they always treat you great and take the time to explain things clearly no matter how experienced or inexperienced you are. They are not high pressure and have a great selection of brands and price points to choose from. I highly recommend them.
We're long-time patrons of Higher Ground. They carry an excellent selection of bikes, accessories and clothing. Judy always has a smile and helpful tips. Marcus is outstanding at repair and maintenance. Thanks for all you do for the Tallahassee cycling community!
Had some adjustments made to my handlebars and some racks installed. My bike was ready a day earlier than quoted, and done very well. Had some questions about other bikes that the staff happily answered without giving the a pushy sales person attitude. I would recommend this place to other people needing bikes or service.
I dropped in in December to buy a pair of clip-in shoes for spin class. Found a super comfortable pair at a good price. The guy who checked me out mentioned that the shop does a no-drop trail ride on Saturday mornings. They meet at the shop and ride over to Lake Overstreet. I showed up this past Saturday for the trail ride and had a blast. The guys were so nice and patient with me...it was my first time clipping in on a bike and I was a little apprehensive to say the least. When they said "no-drop" they really meant it. I wholeheartedly recommend it and can't wait to go back. Thanks guys!
You can NOT beat the service department here...best in Tallahassee and never over charge you like other places I experienced...all employees are friendly and out going
Best Experience Ever! Seriously though, the staff here is phenomenal. I started out as a window shopper that, slowly, turned into a paying customer and was treated with respect the entire way. Matt especially answered all my questions and more. Give these awesome folks a chance if your looking for a bike or service!
We have had the privilege of knowing Tod and his friendly staff for many years . I bought two new Cannondale Scalpel SI's last fall and have had great service after the sale. ALL the bikes they carry are top quality brands!
I've been a loyal customer of Higher Ground for over 10 years. Why? Because they've always taken great care of my bikes, and they're one of the few bike shops that helps out with the local trails.
I've been a customer for over 16 years and have developed friendships both with some of the employees and the owner that have lasted over the many bikes I've purchased from them over the years. The latest a Specialized emountain bike that has as I've become an athlete in his eight decade life enhancing. I recommend them without reservation. Go and see them I think you'll agree.
Great inventory! Saw a Surly Krampus online haven t bought a bike in 15 years. Live 2.5 hours away. Was going to get what I wanted or pass. The bike I wanted was blue, part my own fault I didn t call to ask number one if they still had it or if it was put together. Tried a handful of other super nice bikes but I wanted the one that I saw online. They put the bike together in couple hours from box to meet my needs so I could drive home. Fits perfectly and love the color. Very happy with my bike
This shop is great! Love my new Specialized Carbon Road Bike. Warren was very helpful & giving of his time to make sure everything was perfect. Plus a super good price, best deal in town. I checked around & nobody could touch it. Plus everyone there makes doing business fun & easy. So happy! I do recommend.
Really, really great service! After researching the internet for bike racks, I dropped by for the first time near closing to look at what they had. A sales person named Judy showed me a couple of racks they had in stock and when I asked if I could try it on my truck, she said sure and picked it up and took it outside and mounted onto the hitch. I was so impressed with the rack, a Kuat Transfer....really nice rack for the money...and with her enthusiastic service, she even put the locking devices on for me right there, I bought it immediately and have been really happy with the purchase ever since.
Then today, after we were on a long ride, we stopped by again to try to find a pair of handle bar covers for my wife's bike. They had a pair we wanted and they installed them right then. I was also having some problems with my bike in that the chain was jumping and slipping (the internet said it was probably a worn out freewheel) and even though it was again near closing time, they took it right in and repaired it while we got a bite to eat at Momo's next door. I have never seen such professionalism, such great service and reasonable prices anywhere or any business. Keep it up guys. You have won over all of my business from now on!! Thanks!!
Recently went to Higher Ground to get my bike serviced. It came back looking better than new. A Really friendly and competent place. You couldn t ask for more.
Took my twin grandsons bikes for a brake adjustment after a scary incident where the brakes failed. After initially telling me it would be a couple weeks (due to upcoming holidays), Matthew, the tech, called me later the same day to tell me the bikes were ready! Now we can ride over the Christmas break. Many thanks to the entire staff! You guy rock!
Been meaning to share this - such a great experience with Nixon the other day! I walked in and embarrassingly admitted that I had my first flat and had no idea where to start on changing it out! He asked if I had time, and then patiently walked me through each step from beginning to finish allowing me to do pretty much the whole change myself! This experience is truly encouraging for newer riders who want to learn more about bike riding! Thank you Nixon!
Friendly, honest and helpful. I ve starting going here more often when I need help with my bike or advice, always leave in a good mood. I m a beginner, and I ve found them to be super enthusiastic about helping me become a better rider, getting me more involved in the mtb community here in tallahassee, and even giving me advice on what they would do if they were in my shoes.
Always a pleasure shopping here and having repairs completed here. I have never purchased a bike from them and they still treat me amazing. Definitely recommend if you need a bike or just bike accessories.
My go-to local bike shop. Super knowledgeable and friendly staff, huge selection of bikes/gear, great prices, and state-of-the-art service/maintenance. Also super involved with the community, leads shop rides Tuesdays and Saturdays (i think Thursdays now too), hosts fund raiser rides and events, etc etc. Oh and don't get me started on the post-ride thirst quenching lounge in the back ;)
Higher Ground is a first class operation. Todd and his staff listened to our concerns and needs taking the time to ensure that the bicycles we bought would meet or exceed our expectations. Thanks to all for a great buying experience and the reintroduction to the joy of bicycling.
This is a great bike shop with a great inventory of bikes. Their staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They gave me a great deal on a custom build mountain bike. HG stands behind their products.
Years ago I purchased an expensive frame (Santa Cruz blur) from the shop. Sadly after only two years it broke. The shop quickly warrantied it and I was good to go; until this time it developed a crack in the frame. At least we caught it before it broke thru again. I asked the shop to warranty it again. The problem was this time it was out of warranty by two years or so. I explained to the owner (Todd) that I hadn't been riding in quite a few years, had just started back and this was the second time the frame had a problem. Even though the shop owed me nothing, they agreed to sell me a new frame at cost and move the parts for free (which they did). I'm not suggesting if things go out of warranty they will always do this, but I can say that there's a good chance they would be willing to talk it thru with you to find a viable solution. Todd, I didn't expect the support, but again greatly appreciate what you've done. Tyler (shop manager), I would also like to thank you for doing a great job with the bike and for working closely with me too.
After my shifter broke, I priced replacements and began removing the old shifter and realized there was more to fixing this than I wanted to do. Higher Ground fixed my shifter the same day and let me stay outside during this pandemic. They did a fantastic job and tnd at a reasonable price. So perhaps my prior experience with Higher Ground was not a habitual problem.
Previously, After making an appointment to get my bike tuned up for the first time, I dropped my bike off and stated that the rear derailleur needed adjustment. I was surprised when my bike was ready in about an hour and was given a discount because the bike was in such good shape. Unfortunately, when I got the bike on the trail, the rear derailleur refused to shift to the high gears and my new chain skipped on the cassette. When I called and explained my situation, I was told that I could bring the bike back to the store and if there weren t any other customers they would fix my rear derailleur. The employee explained how two technicians had checked my bike out before it was complete, so why didn t it shift correctly?
Spending an hour and a half driving back to Higher Ground to have someone try to fix my bike after having already paid them to fix it seemed like a cost I was not willing to incur. So, I began watching YouTube videos on how to adjust a rear derailleur . After about an hour of watching videos, I began to understand just what was going on when I shift gears and began adjusting my rear derailleur myself. At first, I made a few mistakes, but after an hour, my bike was shifting like new again.
Awesome shop and staff!! We went to two other bike shops that tried to over sell us. At Higher Ground, Matt listened to our needs and wants and fit us in the right bikes. We will be repeat customers!
Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and they thoroughly explain repairs that are needed or recommended. With my older bike, they also recognized and proactively made a couple of helpful minor adjustments. Will continue to use them for service needs.
