Wonderful experience awesome place to stay for bachelor weekend
I would have given 4, maybe 5 starts, but there were a couple of problems with my stay. First the good: the location was the top priority since I was attending a show at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The hotel itself was very nice and the room, while small was nice as well. The service was mixed. When I arrived there was no sign out front for valet parking and there was no attendant, just an area marked as hotel loading zone. My wife and I checked in, dropped of our bags, and returned to the entrance to move my car. When I got to my car the valet attendant had returned and proceeded to chastise me for daring to park in his valet parking loading zone. So apparently if you're not using the valet parking you're not allowed to use this area. Fine, but there were no signs or attendants there when I arrived. Very annoying. Then when I returned home, I received an email receipt for an additional $30 for an Amenity Fee. I immediately called the hotel to find out what this was for. They said it is a mandatory daily fee for things like WiFi and towels(?). I asked why it wasn't charged when I booked my room and paid in advance. They said that was a question for the owners. No other hotel I checked in Downtown Portland charges this fee. It is a scam. Next time I will stay at a hotel that does not tack on this fee, even if the daily charge is more. I don't appreciate the deception.
The hotel is Centrally in located on the Broadway Street. It's really close to the famous food trucks of Portland the hotel itself is a part of history and a piece of art in itself The stuff is super nice super helpful and super Pleasant to talk to .
Lovely old landmark building, reasonable rate and interesting specials.
Very amiable front desk and free beer when you check in. Can't get any better!
Beautiful hotel with unique charm. Highly recommend a visit to the restaurant downstairs; the food is fantastic.
Amazing chicken for a seafood restaurant. Would definitely come back.
Good area. Lots of places easy to get to. Room was clean and bourban tasting was a good touch!
Great food and drinks. Environment was very cozy and inviting. service was a bit slow, but everyone was very friendly.
I felt like a princess during my stay at the Heathman. The hotel itself was luxurious and comfortable. The bed was heavenly and the room was perfect. But what was most impressive was the customer service. There is a front desk employee, I believe her name is Lily. From the very first moment I walked in the door, she went out of her way to make sure I came first. She was more than polite. She held her composure but was still able to make me feel like a close friend. She made arrangements for me that weren't required but she did it with ease and without stress to me. I didn't have much interaction with the other employees, just casual contact and some phone contact. I felt as if I were a special guest. I highly recommend the Heathman Hotel!
Funky design, peaceful for city center and super helpful staff. We loved it.
Comfy bed, comfy room. Bathroom was on the small side, but completely functional. Staff were amazing.
As soon as you walk in it's like walking into paradise! The room was absolutely stunning and very well kept. The views from the window at night are extraordinary. The staff are very respectful about privacy and have good manners. Will definitely return here for a night of luxury!
Great staff and service, unique facilities and rooms, close to attractions, would definitely recommend!
I did work for them, just wanted to comment on how amazing and friendly the staff are. Great experience just being around them.
The hotel is beautiful and I really enjoyed the snacks and drinks
Delicious! Great place to meet with a friend staying at the hotel
Nice place, but the book/library area isn't in the lobby and guests didnt have acces during Russian Tea time. A huge bummer. Staff was nice enough but sometimes misinforming about access.
Nice hotel. We enjoyed our stay. Nicely furnished and bed was comfortable. Only complaint is the bathroom was incredibly narrow. Not really wide enough to use the toilet, and we're average sized people.
I was visiting a friend staying at the Heathman and thoroughly enjoyed my time. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The decor was simply and elegant. I would happily stay there in the future.
Excellent service here! I had lunch in the bar and it was so good.
This is a terrific hotel! Highly recommended. It has a mix of old school cool factor with a modern side that goes well. It looks fancy but not pretentious, just cool. The rooms are very spacious and they have everything that you need. It is obviously a bit expensive per night but to be honest, totally worth it. They also add on a cocktail fee of $29, which if you don't drink is quite unfair. In my case I had one beer and that was it. But overall great place.
Great hotel. Excellent service and perfect location. Rooms are well equipped. Huge TV's. The hotel has shower/tubs in all the rooms (no separate shower or jacuzzi tub). We will stay there again. Didn't try the restaurant, maybe next time...
Beautiful historic hotel in downtown Portland. Inside a renowned art gallery and bookshop
Nice rooms, friendly staff. Only complaint was the mattress was not very comfortable.
Lovely hotel. Very comfortable beds and the rooms are effectively sound proof! Fantastic in room coffee as well. The Heathman is our new go to when visiting Portland
The theme of my stay was 'no or closed', there are other hotels in Portland. I suggest staying in one of those. FTP.
Poor service and a lot hidden charges. The hotel is old and the air conditioning is EXTREMELY noisy. Beware of what they mean by resort fees. The hotel doesn't even have a bath tub.
The rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable. The staff are very attentive and work to accommodate guest needs.
We had called ahead for early check in. We arrived around 1pm after a 5 hour drive. We were told our rooms aren t ready but they will give us a call if they are ready before 3pm, which is fair as that is the regular check in time. We returned to the hotel at 3:15pm and our rooms were not ready. We waited in the lounge area for about an hour until one of our rooms became available and the other took another half hour.
We were sent one canned wine per person for the delay with some mixed peanuts. Our friends in the other room were offered the same even though she is pregnant and her husband a non drinker.
Overall. We had to fight for compensation and were given the I understand your frustration but there s nothing I can credit you at the moment. At the end we received $60 off of our $600 stay.
The rooms were overall clean and nice.
Concierge offered me a beer as I walked in. There is a text concierge that will do whatever you need. Rooms are very comfortable. There is a small fitness room that has nice equipment, well maintained. Restaurant is nice.
Our bathroom would have been much too small for an obese person, though just fine for an average sized person. I was sad they won't let you use the stairs, they're locked from the stairs side.
Overall a very classy place, I would stay again.
Cool place to go to. The Heathman was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
Historic hotel made famous by Fifty Shades of Grey. Beautiful lobby and wine bar. Dated rooms.
Great location. Rooms are updated. Comfortable bed. Valet was friendly. Text concierge was a nice touch.
The lady on the phone when we called to inquire about early check in was extremely rude and unhelpful. When we arrived they said a room was not ready and they would call us. They never did. Front desk staff was prickly and seemed irrirated that she had to answer questions.
No one informed us of the construction going on when we booked. 8am we heard drilling.
The room looked nice but is small and smelled like paint fumes and chemicals. You can not open a window as it's nailed shut. There is no coffee in the room. No fan in the bathrooms and they are SMALL.
We will not be back for this high price.
Friendly and helpful staff would have changed my mind.
My wife and I chose the Heathman Hotel for our fun filled Anniversary evening and the Experience was amazing. Start to finish the staff was incredible. Special shout out to Christopher on the Staff truly making our experience here memorable
Super cool old-school retro hotel. First calls all the way.
Good location. The hotel restaurant was awesome! Make sure to reserve Russian tea service early
Honestly one of my favourite hotels I ve ever stayed in. Beautiful decor, friendly staff, spacious rooms, all located downtown Portland. They have a gorgeous library lounge, filled with booked signed by every author whom have also stayed in the hotel!
I can t wait to come back!
Lovely hotel! Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Wonderful restaurant with great service. Excellent concierge service! A little extra is their warm and inviting library to sit and read or work if necessary. I will return on my next visit.
Bartender was really cool. Good food and drinks. Clean place. Overall really liked it.
great location and service. rooms are small but very clean.
Beautiful event space. Food was delicious, had a great time and felt very welcomed by the staff.
Fantastic staff and great restaurant and bar!!! All the trapping of a fine hotel!
Love the hotel. One of the best that I've stayed in. The gym is updated, the rooms are new and the customer service is outstanding. Highly recommend this hotel. It made our anniversary so much better.
It was nice enough. But for the cost of stay they need a major overhaul.
Gorgeous and centrally located hotel! The rooms are beautifully decorated and we also loved the lobby library filled with autographed books by authors who have stayed here. The service is top notch and we instantly felt welcomed once we stepped in. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. We will definitely return upon our next visit to Portland.
Beds were surprisingly comfortable. Upscale vibe but had single ply toilet paper and really low water pressure in the showers. Staff was friendly. Room was clean. Had a great night's sleep.
Attentive staff, big flat screen tv.
BIG minus: hot as bloody hell. We visited in October and they only had heat for the building - no AC so had to have the window open. Either it was stuffy hot and quiet or cooler and noise.
The Heathman has gone under an extensive renovation and it is wonderful. Stayed a night on business but the rooms are comfortable and bright, hallways are nice. There is wonderful artwork all over the place and the library is absolutely beautiful.
Amazing hotel and staff goes above and beyond! Free craft beer as a welcome to the hotel?! Amazing!!!!
We spent a weekend at The Heathman Hotel Portland to celebrate a special occasion. First, the Heathman Hotel in Portland has no relationship with the one in Kirkland, WA. This is where the similarities begin and end. The Heathman Portland was disappointing from our check-in experience to the rooms and overall ambience. The hotel is basically a Holiday Inn trying to masquerade as a luxury boutique. Unfortunately the history of this building is undone by the lack of warmth and the seemingly over the top meaningless top art deco that tries to make up for the lack of well designed rooms. We requested a room with a view and having paid $350/night and offering to pay more for available upgrades, we were given the keys to room 31.1 This room overlooked a dirty ledge with dirty and discarded garments thrown on the ledge. The room in-spite of being a suite had no drawers (yup, you can live out of your suitcase), no hangers for jackets or shirts or women's dresses, only for trousers, the painting across the wall edges was cheap, some of it on the tiles on the floor, the fire sprinklers were in unfinished cutouts, and you could see pipes running beneath the basins. The bathroom is extremely small and the space is wasted with poor design. Besides, they charge you an amenity fee for craft beverages which we were not offered though the only consolation was that the wifi worked well. We couldn't wait to check out and head back home. At the time of writing this, I have not received response to my tweets or email to Darryn White, the GM. As one Lyft driver said, the hotel was majestic and now over the years with the new owners is in shambles. If you decide to stay here, ask for even numbered rooms as they'll have a street view and make sure you get your craft beverage for the so called amenities fee.
Very good looking place with an upscale vibe and safe atmosphere. TV was huge, pretty good courtesy happy hour drinks, and friendly staff. Had breakfast downstairs the morning after and it was fantastic. Valet parking was astronomically priced at over $45/night, the main lounge was closed for renovations, and they were doing water pipe maintenance overnight that meant our room had no running water from 11p-6a (thankfully we didn't need to get up and running too quickly in the morning). The noise bleed into our room was atrocious. Another guest was in an adjoining room, and we could hear through it clearly even though the door between was fully shut. It's preposterous to rent a room for over $200 and be woken up by your neighbor's alarm clock. I wouldn't stay again, but I might visit the restaurant. There are better places to spend the night.
Very friendly staff. Bathroom in room is a bit small but nice. Free Drink on arrival while checking in. Huge tv in room.
As one would expect, the rooms do not come cheap. However, it was a very nice room; the staff were pleasant; and we got a good night's sleep. In a nice area of town within walking distance of several shops, a concert hall, and as in the rest of Portland, multiple tasty restaurants.
This hotel is so boujee but not at a boujee price. We were immediately offered a complimentary local IPA upon check in and were advised that the free cocktail hour was going to wrap up soon, so we went there for a delicious custom gin and champagne drink. We didn't see any ghosts but what our experience lacked in the paranormal was more than made up for in beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, and 24 hour room service.
Nice location down town, can tell it was re done recently but had a nice feel to it!
We only stayed 1 night but I would definitely come again. They're at the tail end of their renovation so the rooms have been updated, the lobby is beautiful and they added more amenities. When we arrived we were welcomed with a free beer and every day from 5-6 pm they have a free cocktail tasting using a locally made spirit. There's also a bar and restaurant downstairs that's very trendy, great food and clever drinks.
My girlfriend and I were going down to Portland, Oregon to visit her aunt and uncle *my first time meeting them and in Oregon/Portland as well* We did some research on hotels in and around downtown so we could walk and explore the city after checking in.
We found this hotel that comes with an apparent "haunted history" and because we are both Supernatural fans *the t.v. show and no we are not paid for the plug* and thought it would be fun to #treatourselves to this out of state experience.
After meeting the family we went to check in and found parking almost impossible unless you were willing to pay extreme prices blocks from the hotel. We finally decided to just get the valet at the Heathman but it was a steep $50 dollars a night but unlimited leaving and going privileges.
The staff at the hotel was amazing and had no problems answering our questions about the supposedly most haunted room at the hotel which is 703. They offer free drinks at certain times and free breakfast if you can wake up from their super comfortable bed.
As for the room it was a tad small for the amount of money that we paid for a single night *about $180 before valet* but as the pictures show it was very clean and modern. We opted out of trying room services since we were going to hit the town anyways so no opinion on their food, we also slept in beyond the free breakfast #sleepinonvacation.
Overall we had a fantastic time and next time we decide to treat ourselves we will stop by again.
For those that read to the bottom and wondered if the room was haunted.... Well we didnt have any cold spots or anything fly across the room BUT the t.v. did turn itself off twice through the night. When we were checking out I asked if the TVs were on auto shut off and was told no so that's a thought.
wonderful night last night! excellent Spanish coffees and hard-working professional service!! thank you
Beautifully decorated hotel, restaurant is pretty good. Mostly seafood on the menu. Great spot to stop before after shows at the Schnitz or Portland'5
I was an employee there for a short time some time back. A very nice hotel with good natured employees. Recent remodel.
The bad:
The Queen Deluxe bathroom is crazy small. I m not a large person, but felt cramped and would imagine a large person would not feel comfortable at all. The bathroom lighting cast horrible shadows on my face; the overhead lights were just too harsh and the mirror backlighting wasn t strong enough to compensate.
The actual bedroom was large enough, but some of the furniture choices were not to scale, which made the space less functional; namely, the TV and table it was on were so massive that you couldn t properly open the closet door and there was no room for a valet for your suitcase. These are the kind of things that a newly decorated hotel should not get wrong...why pay for a designer?
As far as decoration; everything was nice and new and the modern take with a nod to the history of the hotel worked well in the common areas, but the actual rooms felt uninspired.
The good:
Wonderful location and staff who go above and beyond. Our daughters stayed in the king deluxe room and there was plenty of space. It s definitely worth the upgrade to have a spacious room with a functional bathroom and separate vanity area. Comfortable, supportive beds with lots of pillow choices.
The Russian high tea was delicious and impressive, and we enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting by the fire, drinking coffee and reading a book in the morning while my family slept in.
In the future I will choose similarly priced or slightly less expensive options in the neighborhood that suit my needs better.
We stayed the evening for a Concert at the Moda Center. We were greated by friendly and courteous staff. Anthony at the front desk welcomed us with a complimentary Beer, very nice after our drive. The parking valet was exceptional. Our room in the newly renovated hotel was amazing. Attention to detail was fantastic. We enjoyed a cocktail with Michael in the lounge and he explained the history of the hotel and the extensive remodel.
We dined in the restaurant Headwaters. The food was terrific, I had Albacore and d my wife had Chicken. Gluten and Dairy free. Our server was Alina and she was great. We Ubered to the show and had wonderful time. We road the Max train back ro the hotel. It was clean and easy. Loved our stay and an extra special thanks to Daryn who made our experience exta special.
The Heathman is a luxurious and beautiful establishment. A little spendy, but totally worth it because it is so close to all the cool spots in Portland. The library is absolutely breathtaking and the art is very unique. The staff here are all great. Especially the night worker Lilly. She was super helpful and knew so much about the hotels history. The workout room is 10/10 and has all the bells and whistles. The valets here are fast and safe, and are definitely worth it.
The rooms are clean, spacious, and well decorated. This Hotel is in a great location: in Kirkland's city center, a minute away from lake Washington. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely return!
Nice hotel, great restaurant. Quiet, large rooms. To our taste, the bed was not that comfortable, did not have fitted sheets, bed was not well done.
I loved everything about our stay here. The moment we walked in, we were offered an ice cold IPA. I knew at that moment that I had made the right choice.
Our room was perfect. It had a nice, big bathroom and two lovely beds with a giant tv and a little table.
There was a hair dryer, iron, robes, kettle, complimentary tea, a fancy coffee maker and complimentary coffee too.
The library and mezzanine were beautiful spots to socialise or get some work done. Every night they offered you a complimentary beer and every night they had a complimentary cocktail. One night they even brought out appetisers.
The staff was super knowledgeable and helpful. They gave us dinner recommendations every night and they never led us astray.
I can t recommend this place enough!
Great hotel. Get an upper floor though, otherwise you will have barking dogs in the next room over.
There is no parking unless you want to pay for valet and there is also a concierge service that they don't tell you about until you check out and that's $27 everyone who works there is very friendly and Incredibly helpful though the room was very small for how expensive it was but then again you were in downtown Portland
Very nice historical hotel. I would definitely stay there when I visit Portland.
Nice hotel. It's changed from last time I was there ('75) no more $13.00 rooms
The iced tea tasted very stale, the server took our orders then another server came by to card my friend and I which was awkward. We were dress nicely and behaved ourselves, but were made to feel that we were not welcome.
Amazing staff and incredibly beautiful hotel in downtown Portland. Walking distance from lots of really neat food/bars/other stuff.
Excellent service. Great staff. Convenient location. Spacious room.
I especially like the inner lounge as a place to have a drink. Food is very well-prepared, but it is hotel food (i.e. made to be as broadly appealing as possible, which is to say kinda boring)
Great location in central downtown. Right by pioneer square, which has a bunch of local cool events. Really close to public transportation you can head anywhere with ease. Friendly staff. Small, but comfy room. Very comfortable bed.
Wonderful happy hour in the lounge area. The service is top notch. Drink and food specials do the trick.
The customer service at this hotel is absolutely outstanding! The rooms were great as well, I highly recommend The Heathman Hotel to anyone looking for a great Portland hotel with a fantastic location.
Great experience. Let my dog stay for a couple hours until he got picked up.
Good service and room. Friendly staff. Great location.
