Haydel's Bakery Review

Love the king cake! Took my son in for 'treat'. He ate a triple chocolate cookie and loved it so much he wouldn't share! He gobbled it up and washed it down with juice. Great place for simple stop or grabbing something to feed the masses.

Apparently this is the place for wedding cakes as the shop always seems to have more wedding cake consulting going on than bakery sales. I've sampled a few bakery items here.. Almond croissants, petit fours, cinnamon buns and their new hand held pies.

Everything is OK, but nothing is stand out. I find it all is a little on the too sweet side. The almond croissants don't touch the ones at my favorite spot uptown.

The hand held pies are not as good as hubigs, but a for effort and for going ahead and filling a new Orleans void.

The service was AMAZING! Jeanine was simply the best! She made sure that I walked away with what I wanted. She listened and gave great suggestions. She went out of her way to assist me. With service like this I will definitely be back. Jeanine Thank you for making this experience so simple and a pleasure. Your the BEST!

Had a special event a week ago and tried 4 different bakeries and Haydel was the best by far. Order was ready on time, packed perfectly, service was great and everyone loved the selection of sweets

My goodness what's with all the HORRIBLE reviews? They made me want to leave a review, and my experience was nice. We stopped by to get a King Cake, as we've been trying one from different places this year (Randazzo's, McKenzie's and even Walmart). We also purchased some Cajunolli (cannoli), Eclairs, and Petit Fours. Everything was fresh, moist, and delicious. I'd definitely recommend and return to this bakery often!

i purchased a cake for my son's birthday and the cake was dry and hard and was not good at tall. I went back the next day to exchange the cake and the 2nd cake was dry and stale. This will be my 3rd time going to Haydel to deal with this issue. I have always loved going there but now there cakes that you pick up are not as fresh and are not made the same day. I was told the cakes on display are made the same day, i find that extremely hard to believe when BOTH CAKES THEY GAVE ME WERE ROCK HARD!!!

Good pastry selection, plenty of friendly help behind counter for quick service. Not cheap but good quality. Not open Sundays, kinda weird for a bakery.

I ordered a king cake on Monday for my son and daughter-in-law in Seattle. It was shipped Tuesday and delivered fresh on Wednesday, and they said it was delicious. Ordering on-line was very easy. I will definitely use Haydels when I need to have another king cake delivered.

We cannot go to New Orleans without stopping for Turtles. They also have the BEST King cake ever!!!! We get one every year and they never disappoint! If you do not like Haydels, you are not a true fat kid at heart!!!

They have the best packages to send the troops! Talk about respect! Go there to send to APO addresses for troops overseas!

The turtle cookies are SO good. House-made buttery shortbread cookies with pecans and thick fudgr icing. O.M.G. The place itself is also very pretty inside, and the service is friendly.

This is my favorite bakery in the whole city! Our wedding cake came grom here! The best king cakes come from here! Also, be sutr to try the cafe au lait macaroons, they are absolutely delish! My hubs loves the turtles for a little treat.

Ordered two King Cakes for delivery to Texas and North Carolina. Had to call back to fix a mistake I made after ordering online. The rep I spoke to was great, and fixed my issue immediately. Well done and thanks!

Haydel s was a dream to work with for our wedding. I am allergic to all nuts and got worried because, in New Orleans, it s common to use almond paste for the cake, but Haydel s immediately understood and said they could make the cake out of pound cake, which was delicious! In our first visit, Cindy brought out slices of the cake with different fillings to try for both of us and our moms and Cindy sat with us, explaining all of the different styles of cake. Cindy was so patient and charming and it was a pleasure to work with her. At the wedding, the cake looked beautiful and our guests enjoyed it. As a Brooklyn, New York-based LGBT couple planning a wedding in New Orleans, we needed vendors who were organized and responsive and also accepting and Haydel's delivered. We would highly recommend Haydel s as they made the cake process easy and enjoyable. (Definitely get the pineapple filling it was our favorite!)

This was a good place to stop on by for something sweet. The people were very nice and the king cake of course was very good. It was certainly better than Kroger s. Though it was the only thing I tried there, the other items looked tasty as well. I ll have to come back.

The king cake was as delicious as I'd heard. So glad we stopped by.

I have to travel around 65miles to get there and am never going to stop going for my bakery. Always have to buy some extra turtles for the ride home. Can't say we have been disappointed I even order my own Birthday cake so I make sure it is from Haydel's the way I want it to be don't mind making the trip to pick it up myself. If you haven't been to Haydel's you haven't lived.

Haydel's has been in operation for decades now. I use to paytronize Haydel's Bakery, at that very same location, when I was a teenager. And now I am almost kissing sixty years of age. Anyway, Haydel's Bakery is and always has been a great place for those who have a gigantic craving for cakes and pastries. But if you desire Donut's, then you are are out of luck at Haydel's.

It's always fun to go here for some petite fours, cakes, eclairs, turtles and seasonally decorated cookies and cupcakes. Make sure you buy enough to share!

Giving them five star because I was impressed with the customer service. Went with my friends for cake tasting for their wedding and the lady that attended to us was very patient. No hurry whatsoever. At the end of the meeting, the couple knew for sure that there was no point shopping further for a cake vendor. They signed the contract and paid immediately. Overall they were satisfied and for sure wanted them to be part of their big day.

Looovveeeeeeee their king cake & cherry pies. Had it shipped since I couldn t get to NOLA in time and it was perfect. Simply perfect.

Shipped the King of Carnival king cake package to my friend in England. She received it in three days after I purchased it instead of the week to ten days that I was quoted. It wasnt cheap though because I paid $129 for the King of Carnival package ($59 + tax + shipping costs). I was told they could ship a cream cheese filled king cake while in the bakery only to receive a phone call the next day to inform me that they could only ship regular king cakes internationally.

This is my go to place for king cakes, I don't care how far I have to drive. The best place to get a king cake (strawberry cream cheese is my favorite), even better part, they are year round. The petit fours and doberge squares are delicious, there are so many things to choose from. You can't go wrong going to Haydel's. Super friendly staff that knows who to treat their customers right.

Ordered King Cakes online for out of town family and friends. The King Cakes were sent to our local address instead of the out of town addresses. Their system reversed the ship to and bill to addresses. Customer service at the bakery is the worst you will ever experience. Their only response to my request to fix the problem was to blame the person doing the ordering, and offer to re-ship the boxes for an additional $23 per box. Stay away from this place! There are plenty of other places to get much better King Cakes.

The website is impossible to use. Trying to send kingcake to florida. Guess I need another bakery. Was spending about $300. Guess they do not like Internet orders!!!! So sad

When you have the good fortune to be widely considered the best at what you do, what a moment! Haydel's bakery makes one fine king cake to be sure, but apparently the accolades have gone to the collective heads of the staff. I can't tell you how disappointed I am at the treatment that we received from the staff at the bakery on the 23rd of December. We called before leaving Baton Rouge, we wanted to pick up two king cakes for the holidays, and wanted to ensure that we wouldn't waste the trip. We were told that there would be no problem filling our order when we arrived, that holding any product was not necessary. When we arrived 90 minutes later, the cakes were gone. A simple nod at the empty shelves and an explanation that they are first come/first serve was all we were offered, despite having explained that we called before leaving to avoid this very possibility. We were told that "I don't know who told you that, but we don't hold cakes anyway... I can order you one for tomorrow." I can tell you that I'm not interested in spending 3 hours in the car tomorrow too so I can come back again for king cake. A phone call later when emotions were a little less a factor yielded no better a reply. Not One Person seemed interested in trying to make up for the miscommunication or disappointment or time wasted. It is so unfortunate that I now must be forced to reward bad service with my hard-earned money to enjoy the best king cake, or I must sacrifice and skip my favorite king cake. Thank you Haydel's for making sure you didn't lose sight of what got you to where you are today.

Haydel's bakery is a wonderful; colorful; clean; exciting place to visit!

Their king cakes are of the highest quality, with particularly good dough. A very friendly and helpful staff that works with you to get you what you want. It also has a nice local-run feel to it. Note that if you are looking for a king cake, they also have "pop-ups" in many locations throughout the city to get king cakes, usually in snowball shops that are otherwise closed for the winter. Bottom line: a top tier king cake and great local bakery.

I love their birthday candles and unicorn birthday holders. Tough I could not find any vegan option that is prepared there, my family really enjoyed the Kings's cake with the baby Jesus inside it. Everything looks pretty and even tough there are big lines, the service is really quick!

Kings cakes. Turtles. Petit Fours. Napoleans. One of the best desert spots in NOLA, but they're only open during the day. They also are a great place to get custom wedding and birthday cakes.

Although it was good I asked fot strawberry and create cheese filled. Not till I got home did I find it was not filled

This place knows sweets. They have the best wedding cake, the best doberge squares and the second best king cakes in the city. I've never had a bad morsel from Haydel's Bakery.
