Haydel's Bakery Review

The worst service I had ever received. I called an ordered an eclair cake and scheduled the pickup for today, Saturday December 7th, for a 1pm pickup time and arrived at 12 to check if it was ready and the rude sales person who took my order said that it wouldn't be ready until the 21st. I informed her that she messed up my order and she said I took your order and you can come back later on this evening or come back on the 21st. The manager also said, "how were we supposed to know you wanted it for this Saturday"? I told her because I said for this Saturday. I only wish I could give a negative star.

Going into a bakery during Carnival (king cake season) is risky business, but this Friday afternoon was a breeze. The short line moved quickly, there were 4 or 5 friendly employees working the counter. I was pleasantly surprised. I bought a cream cheesd stuffed king cake. It was pretty good but some people said they couldn't really taste the cream cheese in their slice. I found that the icing overpowered the filling in mine. Not my best Haydel's KC.

Love combination of sugar and white icing. Son loves the plain, but we love all the flavors. From New Orleans but live in Southern CA and we have shipped all the time. Always on time and fresh. The best.

This is one of the absolute best in the greater New Orleans area. Doesn't matter what you get...always the best.

Absolutely love Haydel's! We've been ordering King Cakes from Haydel's for years and have never, not once, been let down. My youngest son loves Da' Parish style and we typically order one for his birthday. They are always courteous.

The food there is usually fresh, and the customer service is good. Certain things run out early because they're in demand.

Terrible cake and customer service.....My most resent visit to Haydel s bakery was to purchase a custom cake for my daughters 7th birthday. After several emails and phone conversations I confirmed the cake that I wanted for her from pictures and the written contract from Haydel s bakery. Upon receiving the cake immediately we were not satisfied by the workman ship and quality of the cake. After cutting the cake we then discovered that the cake was also the wrong flavor. Understanding that things happen I called the bakery to explain my issues with the cake and was completely angry at their response. I was told simply I should have paid more money and I would have gotten a better cake. I would have to thing $160.00 for a 15 person cake is a fair amount of money for a cake with no fondant and little detail Judge for yourself I would not recommend this bakery

Amazing and authentic food whether you're getting a new Orleans king cake or just a small sweet all for their treats are delicious!

Great price and Delicious pastries!!!! Also they have another location on Magazine St. So you have to locations no excuses Go get your sweets!

Best bakery ever! The kugelhopf is to die for. Order one ahead, as they are hard to come by. The Russian cake, a New Orleans original, is complex and satisfying. The petit fours have an an amazing almond flavor, and the brownies are perfect. All of this, and I haven't even gotten to the praline filled king cake.

These people were great when I went for my wedding cake . It was so fun . Thanks again !!!

HORRIBLE experience. We ordered a cake for a bridal shower and it is hideous. Not only is it ugly, I can't get in touch with ANYONE in regards to this issue. I have emailed, called, and messaged and I can't get in touch with anyone. It is absolutely ridiculous that there is not an emergency number in case something is wrong with the cakes. I am sure it tastes wonderful, but it looks horrible. I will never order a cake from Haydel's again.

I used to order cakes from Haydel's bakery every year. Last year I ordered my son's Birthday cake per usual. However, I could not pick it up on time due to our then 6mo old having a hard time. It would not have been in her best interest to lock her in the carseat and drive so far since we live in Gretna. She was being fussy and clingy and only wanted to be near me. This was not normal behavior for her so I made the decision to pick up the cake on the following Tuesday when Haydel would reopen. No worries....except my cake order was wrong. My son had just turned 10 and what a sweetheart he is. He was so understanding about why his cake would be late but was looking forward to it. My husband brings the cake home on Tuesday and I'm like we can't give a 10 year old a cake with roses on it. We requested baloons. As well, we had requested that the cake say Happy 10th Birthday Nikoe and it only said Happy Birthday Nikoe. The "Happy Birthday" was drawn nicely. However, his name was drawn quite pitifully. After sending an email and explaining all that was wrong, Ashley offered me a $15 discount on the cake for not adding the "10th Birthday" part on the cake. She said the roses were simply a misunderstanding. How does anyone mix roses with baloons??? I have no idea. Everyone knows that a Birthday cake is a 1st impression item. We were already delivering the cake to my son late but to have it look pitiful and with roses on it was not something that we wanted to subject him too. He needs to know that his day is special and his cake should reflect that. It really wasn't about the money for us so we denied the $15 dollar discount since she refused to redo the cake and we have found somewhere else to order our family cakes from. After years of only ordering Haydel's we were extremely disappointed at how we were disregarded. The entire cake went in the garbage on trash day and we took our big boy out to his favorite restaurant. Shame on Haydel for throwing away loyal customers.

Always a sucker for my local bakery! I grabbed a Russian cake and cream puff. Just as I remembered from when I was a kid!

Ordered our wedding cake from Haydel s and we couldn t be happier.

From the tasting to the ordering and coordination, Emily made it an absolute joy.

She brought ideas to the table and respected and made our requests happen with no fuss.

Communication was clear and frequent and the final product was stunning and DELICIOUS.

I ll never need a wedding cake from them again, but if you re looking to get yours made, I can t recommend Haydel s enough!!!

The cocoa muffin was great, the doberge was ok. Friendly staff, good selection. Get there early to make sure they don't run out of what you want!

I LOVE the turtle cookies, especially knowing they're made from scratch. Buttery cookies, pecans that get all toasty from the baking, and a BIG dollop of fudge icing on top. My husband is fairly obsessed with the chocolate doberge, and my mom's guilty pleasure are the chocolate eclairs. Basically, they're something for everyone. ...And not JUST chocolate-lovers like us. :-) I like that they have all KINDS of little squares of pastries too...everything from carrot cake to cheese cake to doberge to petit fours. My fave smaller pastries are the chocolate petit fours (almond cake!) and the pineapple cheesecakes.

The front shop has a really nice atmosphere. I like that they have some seating so you can enjoy a cup of coffee and a dessert right there, and you can view the amazing case of wedding cake examples. The shop can be paaaacked during the holidays, though...but I guess that's a good sign!

I've been ordering King Cakes from Haydel's for well over 15 years for Mardi Gras. Today my family and I made our first in person visit. The bakery was stocked with so many great looking treats. Very friendly staff helped us and carefully packed our items. Really great to visit in person and taste their other creations other than just the King Cake. Plenty of parking and tables to sit and eat at too inside.

I'm writing this review just on their service because I'm greatly impressed; I've lived in New Orleans for over 10 years but my parents back home have never had the opportunity to eat King Cake so I decided to finally send them one. They live in the middle of no where upstate NY and somehow the package said delivered but never showed up..not sure if someone stole it or what but either way it doesn't matter because with one call and like 3 minutes Haydel's was shipping another! I was so impressed with the quick fix and although my family is upset they have to wait longer..they'll have King Cake in just a couple days! I hate that someone stole something special but it wasn't irreplaceable so I guess I'll just have to hope the people who stole it appreciate some NOLA brought right to their door! ..oh and they better put those collectible figurines up in their house too! Smh. Thank you Haydel's..and I'm sure my family will love the cake too!

If I could give zero starts I could. Got a gender reveal cake and my husband picked it up. Told them not to tell the color of the inside. Checks the cake all looks good. Has the cake right next to him being held the whole time. Opens it to check one last time before putting it in the fridge and all the icing on one side slid off. Clearly wasn t put on very well. Have you ever had to go have to your six month pregnant wife and tell her you know the gender of their baby? Not happy.

Generally, I would have an excellent review but today I was shocked to find the patty shells that I ordered and picked up this morning were hard as a rock. Then when I called the bakery there was a message explaining that because today was the day before Thanksgiving and the large volume of calls, the phone would not be answered. I would bet the volume of calls was due to stale patty shells. I ended getting my patty shells from Tastee.

I find the white cake to be dry, so I was disappointed. The petifours with chocolate icing also are dry, but the chocolate buttercream is very delicious. The best treats are turtles, chocolate chip cookies, triple chocolate cookies, cheese danish, and carrot cake squares.

I have never been disappointed with Haydel's products, whether I'm taking it to go...., or shipping a Kringle cake.

Everything was ready as I ordered. I was given information about the shelf life and the life span without freezing that I didn't ask for and was very helpful.

Excellent quality, delicious King Cakes! I order one to two most years, and the cakes always arrive quickly, and are fresh. I love the beads, coins, and festive little figurines included, too! It's nice to have an authentic taste of New Orleans to share with family and friends at Mardi Gras!

I've always liked Haydel's Bakery. This visit I bought a yummy apple King Cake.

Quality is lacking this time. We have been going to Haydel's for years. They did many weddings and birthdays cakes for our family. This last one was very dry and the writing on the cake looked like a kindergarten child did it. Additionally, they only have one service line for customers, does not matter if you ordered in advance or not. We waited Saturday in line for 35 minutes just to pick up this sad cake. Guess we shouldn't of gotten anything but a king cake from there during their busy mardi gras season. We are going to looking for a new place to get our cakes from now on.

Old school bakery and worth the trip, gotta be there at 8 before 9 for cheese pastry Also Russiancake which they're 1 of the only to sell this cake, some say from German folks some say after WWIU but it's a combination of all cake scraps so some say almond and red velvet flavor so everyone's asking about Haydels King cake $30/Lrg, but the burning ques is What's the porcelain item inside bc that's a collector's item instead of a worthless plastic unloved baby, well its a 30 with a crown... Perfect

I have been enjoying Haydel's Bakery's delicious King Cakes every Mardi Gras season since 1993. I do not live in Louisiana and have them shipped to me right from the bakery. They arrive fast and fresh and are incredibly delicious. My friends and family look forward to the yearly Haydel's treats.

I want to leave a special shout out to the wonderful people in the Haydel's Bakery shipping department. Someone was kind enough to send me a King Cake as a gift, and I was horrified to open my door and see that some creature had beat me to the package. Something had dug a hole in the box and ate almost half of the cake. This was not Haydel's fault at all (unless you can blame Haydel's for making such irresistibly delicious King Cakes), but they kindly and unnecessarily offered to replace it for me. That was certainly above and beyond and so very much appreciated.

Everything is excellent at Haydel's. It is a New Orleans tradition.

Great bakery that has a wide selection from King Cakes, chocolate covered strawberries, Petit fours to Doberge cakes. Every thing is fresh and tasty. The only drawback I see is if you want great tasty treats, you will have to pay up for them. It's so well worth it.

Horrible treatment from the manager Tonya. She's very unprofessional and rude. I've seen her be very rude to vendors as well. Completely messed up my daughter's birthday cake and still made me pay. I will NEVER use them again!

They always have the best pastries. Their turtles are delicious-- a perfect blend between the slightly salty cookie and creamy dollop of chocolate on top. All of their baked goods are high in quality and taste.

One of the best bakeries in the City of New Orleans! I would definitely recommend any and all of the king cakes, but my favorite is a cream cheese filled king cake! I would also recommend their chocolate eclairs! They are second-to-none! And let's not forget the exquisite wedding cakes! Elegant, tasteful, and completely delicious!
