Great bakery that has a wide selection from King Cakes, chocolate covered strawberries, Petit fours to Doberge cakes. Every thing is fresh and tasty.
Every Christmas we would order our Cajun Kringle They also throw in one pack of French Market Coffee and Chicory. You can't go wrong either way.

How do they expect costumers to be able to get in touch with them if they don't answer the phone or have voicemail when you call them? Anyone else have this issue? If they have a phone number than they should answer the phone not just leave their store hours!!!!

Lived in NOLA, so experienced Haydel's Bakery for 28 years. Had Haydel's doberge cakes for four birthdays each year for past 10 years. Then we move to Boston, so we ordered a doberge cake from Haydel's Bakery. It arrived next day delivery. Nicely packaged and well frozen. Delicious

Nice place. Great pastries and King cakes that don't cost an arm and a leg. The one thing that kinda threw me off was the amount of "don't do (X)" rules posted around the place. "Don't do (y) at the counter". "Don't sit here".

I know it's their house, their rules, but it just felt kinda strange seeing all those notices. It must happen very often to the point where the owners decided to post those notices up like that.

Still! A great place nonetheless. Friendly staff and all.

I ve heard a lot about Haydel s so decided to try a Cream Cheese King Cake. I can say that they produce a solid product. However, it wasn t quite to my taste/preference. For example, they place a small strip of cream cheese on top of the cake. It would have been nice if there was more cream cheese on the cake as a whole. The sugar on the top was way too much in my opinion. I feel that it could have been scaled back some and still be a good product. All of that to say, this is not my first choice but I d definitely buy again if it was a matter of convenience.

Good place to visit, this review is specifically about their Hand Pies, Though not the old New Orleans favorite Hubig's, these hand pies are a great second. many people went in with the expectation that Haydel's were going to copy Hubig's pies, instead they came out with something just as good, may be Better.. Now before you start throwing rotten tomatoes at me. think about it, Hubig's is most likely not coming back anytime soon.

Their baked goods may be wonderful but their website SUCKS!!!!
It is impossible to send king cakes or any other item via their website. It is totally not user-friendly. They make it impossible to change your billing information/address and have a really stupid circuitous way to input the address you want to send things to. Took me WAY too long to do the transaction and I had to call them three times and wait on hold to make sure the order was correct. The whole point of being able to order online is to AVOID having to call and wait on hold. So unless you like wasting your time I suggest you order your king cakes from another place, as I ended up doing after being thoroughly aggravated.

Love this place! Best King Cakes in town also great pastries and custom cakes. Haydel's has been New Orleans tradition for over half a century. Try the chocolate turtles: they are addictive. Cookies are fresh and chewy not dried out and crumbly.

Best pastry there is the Praline Kris Kringle . Is shaped like a king cake. But the pastry is much lighter, almost like a croissant. Instead of having purple green and gold icing this has praline icing. I love the turtles also.

Staff was super friendly even though they were super busy, it was just a couple days before Mardi Gras. I bought a King Cake, king cake fudge and some chocolate covered pretzel rods. Everything was delicious! I wanted to go back before I left town but they had closed for holiday! I will definitely be back on my next visit!

Everyone has their favorite bakery in the New Orleans area, and there are heated debates about whose is best. However, for me, the hands-down winner, especially for birthday cakes, is Haydel's.

We've been getting a large, custom designed cake for my son's birthday party for the last 5 years. Every time, it turned out perfectly. We would call in advance and describe the theme and what we were looking for. They would take notes and give input and each time they nailed it. This year, we called to place our order and were rudely told that they don't do custom designs anymore. We could send pictures of a cake another baker designed and they would copy it, but because of past customers that were unhappy, the owners decided to no longer do custom designs. While it felt a bit sleazy stealing from other bakeries, we put together some pictures of what we had in mind and emailed it over. A different person called back and was much more pleasant. They went over what they were planning for the cake with a lot of great ideas that would have been perfect.
One of the pictures we had sent was a picture of the cake they did for us last year where we pointed out something that they did that we liked. Well when we picked up this year's cake, they had copied last year's entire cake exactly. Nothing to do with this year's theme. None of the details that they had told us they were planning. We picked the cake up the morning of the party, so no real options. We put our own topper on it, but we still had multiple people notice that it was the same cake from last year.
After this experience, we'll probably be going elsewhere going forward. It's a shame because this was our favorite bakery to visit when we're in town. When the topic came up at the party, there were multiple people who said they stopped going in the last year or two because quality has been dropping with the focus on expanding and marketing. It seems like they're more focused on the hand pie business now while their core product lineup is suffering. I'll be crossing my fingers that Hubig's opens back up so that Haydels can get back to business!

After being highly recommended chose this bakery and ordered king cakes well in advance with expedited shipping. King cakes never moved past "awaiting fulfillment" yet my credit card was immediately charged over $300 for 4 cakes and shipping. Tried to email, call and go through web site for contacting company and could not speak to anyone. Will not order from here again. If I could give "0" stars I would. Consider this one a 1/2 star review. Very disappointed in a company that has been in business several generations. Thankfully we were able to locate king cakes locally.

What has happened to the almond croissants! I have been coming here for 32 years for Turtles and these croissants. They used to be big, puffy and overfilled with almond pastry cream. Today they were small, dark and had a very thin layer of pastry cream. Why does everyone have to sacrifice quality to make a little more money? From the volume I see going in and out of the bakery it doesn't appear you are hurting for business, so why diminish your reputation by downgrading an item you have been making for years? Sad.

I have been disappointed my last two visits with cakes and petite fours being dry. This was my favorite bakery. I'm not sure what's going on with them. Service is always prompt and friendly, but the product is not up to their old standard.

About Haydel's Bakery

Haydel's Bakery: A Legacy of Deliciousness

For over three generations, Haydel's Bakery has been a household name in New Orleans. This Guinness record-holding bakery has been treating locals and visitors alike to the finest fresh-baked cookies, cakes, and pastries for decades. With a commitment to quality ingredients and traditional baking techniques, Haydel's Bakery has become an institution in the city.

History

Haydel's Bakery was founded in 1959 by Lloyd Haydel Sr., who had a passion for baking that he inherited from his mother. He started out small, selling his baked goods door-to-door before opening his first storefront on Magazine Street. The bakery quickly gained popularity among locals who couldn't resist the delicious smells emanating from its ovens.

Over time, Lloyd Sr.'s sons joined him in the business and helped expand it into what it is today. Today, Lloyd Jr., Gary, and David run the bakery with their children continuing the family tradition.

Products

Haydel's Bakery is known for its wide variety of baked goods that are made fresh daily using only high-quality ingredients. From king cakes to petit fours to wedding cakes, there is something for everyone at this bakery.

One of their most popular items is their king cake which comes in various flavors such as cinnamon sugar or cream cheese-filled. During Mardi Gras season (which runs from January 6th until Fat Tuesday), people flock to Haydel's Bakery to get their hands on one of these delicious treats.

Another favorite item at Haydel's Bakery is their petit fours which come in different shapes such as hearts or flowers and can be customized with different colors or designs depending on your occasion.

In addition to these items, they also offer cookies (including decorated sugar cookies), cupcakes (with flavors like red velvet or chocolate), pies (such as pecan or sweet potato), bread (like French bread or sourdough), and more!

Quality Ingredients

At Haydel's Bakery quality ingredients are key! They use only pure butter instead of margarine which gives their products a richer flavor profile than other bakeries that use cheaper substitutes. They also use real vanilla extract instead of imitation vanilla flavoring which adds depth and complexity to their baked goods.

Their flour comes from local mills ensuring freshness while supporting local businesses at the same time! And when it comes to decorating cakes they use only high-quality fondant rather than cheaper alternatives like whipped cream frosting which can melt easily under hot conditions making them less durable during transport!

Customer Service

At Haydel’s customer service is top-notch! Their staff members are friendly knowledgeable about all things related baking so if you have any questions about any product they will be happy answer them!

They also offer delivery services within New Orleans area so you don’t have worry about picking up your order yourself if you’re too busy running errands around town!
