I got what I needed and the help to get off the street.
I got what I needed and the help to get off the street.
The I Care department is for Vision. I may have cararacts. Eye Care can be costly for those of fixed income. I pray that Haven for Hope can help me as they have helped many people that are in need of health care.
If it weren't for this place, my husband would never have been able to stay sober. The first time I got to see him while he was there I almost didn't recognize him, he'd made a complete turnaround. He was sober, and he told me didn't feel the need to use anymore for the first time! You have to want to change, but trust me, they did an amazing job helping him! He's been clean for over a year thanks to them. I could go on, but once you're ready for help, haven is there.
I volunteered in the kitchen with Food Bank staff, I loved it!
They do good cause they give individuals help when they need a place to stay . There's people out there that get so demanding when they don't have a place to stay do to there situations keep up the good job heaven for help.
The police are very rude and our g******** setup is messed up they don't help help me with housing and a job finding system I have to stay a year for find a home over there the showers are not 24/7 the food is not 24/7 and I don't like sleeping outside like sleeping inside security is very rude and the volunteer program they won't let me volunteer at all
IT'S OK BEING HERE IT'S SO STRESSFUL SOMETIMES,BUT IT ALSO CHANGE MY LIFE AROUND U HAVE TO CHERISH THE PEOPLE'S IN OUR LIFE HEAVEN FOR HOPE WOULD MAKE U WANT TO NOT BE THE SAME PERSON JUST DIFFERENT.
They have everything you need to get yourself back on your feet
Amazing place with people that have such amazing big hearts
I cannot say enough good things about this place I saw people getting upset here but all the treatment is free please come and donate whatever you can these guys are great
Irs a terrible place to go to. It feels like gaurds
I went to donate some jackets on a very cold day around 5pm and they were closed.
Life changing if you want the help they'll provide the resources if you provide the effort
Great ministry for those who may need a place to stay for a few days.
Staff is rude, my friend was sick and was not able to complete the process to get help from them because she was ill. She ended up laying on the ground until another friend could go pick her up.
Perfect place to be when you have no where else to go.
A great basketball tournament tommarow called Haven for Hoops! Saturday the 24th from 9 to 1 come and join us for music, food and 3 on 3 basketball.
Thankful and appreciate everything that the organization did for me and my son
This isn't just a shelter home, this is a place of opportunity to those in need. A great community that provides Hope when all else has failed.
I came in as a family unit (mom dad 3 kids) In emergency. The first few days were ok. We stayed in the intake room on mats. Not to bad. I got into a argument sticking up for my kids... Got badges removed for the night and treated like some kind of monster. My children asked of we could sleep in a tent because they felt unsafe (14 12 and 9). Breaking state property is not means to be removed but sticking up for your family is. People been here 4, 5, 6 times and staff Are friends with them so even if you tell them You feel Your life is in. danger they don't care. They believe he said She said Even if you have other People with you. They split our family up over some he said she said then called cps on us so even of we wanted to leave we couldn't. my kids cried themself to sleep because they Are scared and want their dad. This place will brake YOU quick! Dont come here unless you have 0 choices. The food you can hardly eat. My 14 year old son had a death threat from another mother and they overlooked it because oh we know her its ok...... When the big wigs come you can tell because everyone changes up and follows rules until they leave. Even life safty laughs about it. They need undercovers in here for 1 week and you can see the ins and outs quick. Half the staff treat you like dirty bums. Its set up just like a prison. If you have to come here i wish you the best of luck.
Once u get to the transformational campus side, there is do many opportunities to take advantage of!!!
They do a lot of good there. Glad I got to volunteer and see all of it first hand
It's very busy here, if you come here for the medical care, be expecting to wait for some time.
It's nasty out in the court yard, even the whole place. Yes it's homeless. But you can't mix the real homeless people ( the ones that don't shower and stuff. ) With the ones that are actually trying to get back on their feet to success.
I'm great full that Haven 4 Hope gave me a chance to get my life back on the right path again.I sleep more safer.I get three meals aday.shower.and always someone there I can talk to when I'm in a confusing way of thoughts and feelings.some might not really care but at least I can talk to some who can guide me in the right direction. Thanks lord.and also the people at Haven 4 Hope for being a FRIEND...
We are blessed to have such a place. One stop for those in need. Medical, dental, vision, food and housing!
I went into the ITP program for my mental health issues and addiction problem, this program has changed my life! I thank God for Haven for Hope and everything that is helping other's like me.
Great place to go. It helps you a lot too many chicks tho be homeless but wanna have a man. No ambition. I got help and got out. Ms Darlene cool af. She helped us out. The other ladies with the school and uniforms cool. Most staff and security seem to treat you when respect.
My boyfriend and I are in our 50's and lost everything, ended up at Haven and were seperated...he stayed in the Pod for Men and I Pod for woman...Here is the first issue...1. Families get a nice Apt..even if not married as long as you have a child you get a better place to live and still get to cuddle every night with you man, guess thats why there is still a huge over population issue...So get knocked up, have a kid, probably dont even know which guy is the "Baby Daddy" and you get a much nicer POD....2. Same sex couples get to all stay together..Isnt that sweet...Thats right folks bcuz they wont make babies...HELLO, why dont they ask the unmarried, straight, drug free couple who lost everything due to the kindness of their heart if it was possible for us to make babies? geeze..2. FOOD!!! Lets just say weavels in your oatmeal is not the greatest way for us to get our protien but you make it a bit easier with the warm watered down Koolaid or Tea...3..Then you have to scan your card when you leave and again when you come back...you can only miss 3 nights or they give your bed away..UNLESS you get approval from your Councelor...the dumbass person they put in charge of you on day #1...I got approval for both boyfriend and I due to us taking care of a very sick friend who had complications from
diabetes...I called everyday like I was told and left msgs like they told me to do if I got voicemail..Well, I called on 5th day(now remember you can be gone 3) They gave our bunks away, and to this day I have no idea where or who has our things...We had very important paperwork, my divorce and child custody documents, pictires of my 8 yr old daughter, our Birth Certificates, etc..OUR PERSONAL INFO that we just busted our butts getting replaced. We are not all a like, dont treat me like a criminal who owes you something,...that was back in 2015...We bounced from place to place working our butts off, worked hard..honest work, no drugs, didnt rob any banks, didnt screw the system didnt take hand out but instead worked in exchange for a place to stay...My boyfriend made sure I stayed safe and fed. Its now the end of 2017, My boyfriend is now a Construction Superintendent ..making $100 grand annually, Company Truck and now have a home in Alamo Heights...NOT due to help from Haven but from our own hard work, from not depending on others but by the strength and love we have for each, for our children and for God....I know they mean to help but they need to fix Administration before they can fix the Homeless. God Bless and Good Luck
Serving the disenfranchised, needy, and homeless. I applaud.
It's a useless shelter. They only are helping drug addicts, alcoholics, sex offenders, and whatever else. I work two jobs and they won't allow to take a shower. I only been here three weeks now and I rather live on the street than stay here.
Because they help and I'm so bless to be here thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Alot of druggies out n around. Does give a place to sleep but no privacy.
Excellent services designed for those who find themselves having to start over and not knowing what to do.

A wonderful place that helps so many people. Also a great place to volunteer for.
I was there a few years ago it's a good place. Some of case manager are rude. Yes you can do things to get a stipend. They pay you when they say, some people wanted their way
And if they get it their way they complain and talk lip. Now the food if you haven't eaten in a few weeks. You will eat it. When I was there heb stop donating because food was missing. If your a big person you're going to bed hungry. They don't let you bring food. One of the ladies that works at intake was rude. Very rude. I met good people and bad ones too. If I could go back to the wellness from I would. One sad thing is to watch the little children that are homeless.
Really fun. There was amazing nice people and old music (90s) playing
Its a good place if u dont have anywere else to go.
When someone you care about is in need of help, continues to get turned away, it's sad.
Right now, they're not helping anyone who isn't already there. Understandable due to the current pandemic. But you can't tell from their website. The Courtyard is basically a prison since everyone inside can't get out and no one who needs shelter can get in. As an essential worker, I would have had to quit my job if I hadn't have found temporary lodging elsewhere. Now I'm back on the streets. Honestly, I'm better off not being a prisoner there.
Helpful when they choose to be but must consider the people they have to encounter on a daily basis.
I don't actually live here, but my grandpa is a pastor that drives here every Thursday to preach the Word of God at the chapel 7-8pm and give out food at 9pm.
Very professional establishment and staff here. Thank you all, God bless you!
I stayed at Haven For Hope along time ago. I joined one of their programs called the Wellness Program. That is a program for people that are struggling with mental illnesses. They have classes that help you cope with your mental illnesses. Everytime you complete a session they congratulate you with a certificate, and a bunch of snacks. Also others that took the classes congratulate you as well. They help you get your SSI and apartment after you complete the classes. The Wellness Program is awesome! The caseworkers were very nice and polite. They were also very patient with the people with mental illnesses. I just wanna say thank you to this program. I am now healthier. I know now how to cope with my mental illnesses. I have learned alot in the classes. I just also wanna thank my old caseworker Latoya for helping me through the program. She was an awesome caseworker. Thank you Haven For Hope for making me a better person!
This place is a lot like a concentration camp. Don't take your children there because they will call CPS. I'm never going back, horrible conditions. Security is out of control, they carry guns with extra magazines. Place is built on the railroad line much like what Adolf Hitler's concentration camps were.
This place is awesome I highly recommend it. This place helped my friend and her family get back on their feet again. I can not express the gratitude I have for them. They are God sent.
Recieved an intro on the lay out of the facilities. Very informative snd answered all questions. Toured several buildings and met some people. Our guide Hamilton Barton was informative and explained the process on how to enroll and many services it offered. Impressive.
The place is amazing I thank God everyday for providing. Haven for hope goes above and beyond for anyone who walks or rolls through those doors . Thank you Jesus for such a great blessing.
Pets should be in Haven for Hope, what if someone else hurts the pets?
I have some experience in the field of homeless program design and management having directed the DC Coalition for the Homeless, worked in New York with the HELP Homeless program and recently as Director of Good Neighbor Settlement House. Three years ago I visited Haven for Hope in San Antonio with Board members and city officals. I am impressed with the functioning of this agency. Dr. Marabut, the man who designed the program came to Brownsville at his own expense and gave advice to service providers in Brownsville. Recently the staff have been very responsive to questions I had regarding a respite service to homeless individuals discharged from hospitals. This is a well planned and managed program San Antonio can be proud of.
It's ok...could be better in communicating with the homeless.. too many officers that are not quick to respond to disorderly conduct!!!
You have physical disability clients on the ground sleeping and have sex offenders on the property and you have children on the property.
A great idea but I wish that the organization would actually do more for the homeless than have them run off and go through the local neighborhood and sleep in the parks. Families are afraid to go with their kids to play in the park, and the total of homeless has increased recently. Can something be done.
Haven for Hope has a friendly staff and lots of resources throughout the San Antonio area and tons of programs that were helpful. While i stayed there i got my dental and vision care that i couldn't afford help with job placement and childcare for my preschooler not to mention financial counseling and help getting an apartment regardless of my credit problems or broken leases.
Needed a place to stay for the night and it's not bad
I stayed here in the year 2010. I slept in the courtyard. I started volunteering and soon was moved inside to the doorms. I am from Tennessee and there is nothing at all there that could compair to Haven. People do not realize how lucky they are to have a place to go. It looks like a beautiful campus inside and the people are so caring. They help address what is wrong or happened to cause you to become homeless. There will always be thoes who complain and moan. To me Haven is a true blessing and so is the employees. God Bless Haven For Hope.
If you have ANYWHERE to go besides this internment camp (H4H courtyard) save yourself! Lol. People have DIED throughout the years here due to negligence, cruelty, and sickening apathy. EMSA calls are often denied. Recently, a man with severe food poisoning from THEIR spoiled meat fell unconscious into his vomit on the floor. Staff AND "supervisor" laughed, made jokes. They were more worried about redirecting lunch traffic & sterilizing the area than helping him. They left him in his vomit without moving him.
My husband volunteers DAILY for several tasks. Working for long hours at his job sometimes leads to missed meals. Volunteers are supposedly allotted at least 1 sack lunch for missed meals. When he requested it, staff denied
he EVER volunteered for the last 3 wks!!! claimed they had no more sack lunches, sent him to bed after no food for 24 hrs. I spoke to them myself & they starved him, anyway. he will miss meals again tomorrow due to his work schedule. I'm a pregnant diabetic & they've refused sack lunches during my missed meals.
You're forced to fit all belongings in 1 bag. Everything else is trashed. You must carry this bag-- no matter how big or heavy it is, despite your disabilities--with you every second. Otherwise staff "donates" it to warehouse or trashes it. this 1 bag contains the homeless individual's ONLY belongings, PERIOD. It's not bad enough they've lost their home and they're experiencing a hard time in general, right? They must senselessly lose what little they've salvaged of their life (clothing, a few pictures of family, etc.) due to not returning from work, lunch, or even the BATHROOM quickly enough. ROW upon ROW of lockers should fix the problem, but only people who have been here for months receive one. The best thing about this hell hole: hopefully, you will never forget how you were treated like total $-#@ here...thus, you'll do everything in your power to NOT RETURN. There should
Be a class action lawsuit against this place. Thousands would sign up, guaranteed.
Because years ago I gave a small peace of land and had a wanting of a good shelter to be built as I sit here today it feel good to know that it was worth it the true person to have this home built was me and some next of kin haven for hope means helping another victim end need finding other resources helping other people ecully. That's why I named it haven for hope .my name is Fabian Gonzales 3rd also known as Earth Angel thanks
Meets the needs of the displaced/homeless community.
