I was referred to the vision care center for my daughter...2 months later finally got an appointment..back in October ..my daughter went through several different test, exams by several different volunteers ...i noticed all the children where going through the exact exam s ...some even crying and scared it reminded me of a camp of horror's. One of the test was supposed to be checking eye pressure in Wich my child jumped back and I seen a little spring like item fall from the tool being used. I thought all was a bit much and never experienced anything like this before getting glasses. We where about to get a pair of glasses then was told a specialist would contact to set an appointment she would have to wait. Since October I have called several times. I left messages, even for the director and still have not received anything. No call no glasses ...I called again today to be transferred to the vision and then my call gets disconnected now. I'm upset of the lack of care for my child, collecting her information for what, and wasting time. It's very disturbing that I don't know what they did with all of her information

Where to begin is the problem Im encountering.. The staff is to show compassion, understanding and patience above all else, which they would be considered worse then the workers at McDonald's during the dinner rush on a cold raining day. Simply the staff has no hospitality or common sense. On a daily they are encountering people who are physiologically unable to interact with society ( as what we would call "normal") with little to no respect. Yet want to be respected? The LSO are just as ignorant. One would think in a position of power and where you are to be considered someone's security, thier vaule of respect is no where to be found. It would be hard for me to associate with such cold hearted people. I would feel like i have degraded myself by allowing to be present while such actions they perform continue.

Fail. Haven for Hope refers you to SAMM Ministries. SAMM ministries tells you "we cannot help you today [M-F] - or you can go to Haven for immediate help". So, after your hour waiting at Haven then going to SAMM, SAMM refers you BACK to Haven where you will wait another hour, now it's lunch, you will be outside, nobody is available beyond one (1) security person whom does have access to inside people yet those persons are not available. Note: if you ride bus make sure you have day pass. This folly of "homeless prevention" is simply a facade of people in semi-governed spaces that IF you see the process through you will be sleeping outside for three nights, POSSIBLY getting a "badge" which obtains entry to the inside when you MIGHT obtain a bed.

They say they care, but they don't my reasons for ...

They say they care, but they don't my reasons for saying this are the following: My daughter had a Dental procedure done getting her wisdom teeth pulled. We have medical documentation to back this up and when it said the dietary she could. Not have hard foods for about 7 days. The residential supervisor Kevin did NOT even read the documents, he just told my wife and daughter. It could not be brought in, that he wouldn't allow it. I then tried to case the family case mgr. Alicia Limon i waited to speak with her at the TC lobby building she never came out. I then tried calling her she never arrived. The receptionist Carol then tried to tell me who to speak to which I did. I already spoke to them that got me nowhere, I DON'T APPRECIATE THE FORM OF TREATMENT. I AM BEING DISPLAYED. When I want to speak to someone i will be allowed to. JUST BECAUSE WE ARE IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS. DOES NOT MEAN FOR YOU TO TREAT PEOPLE LIKE DIRT WHICH YOU DO. WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS AS WELL.. AND SHOULD BE TREATED WITH RESPECT. you offer 3 square meals daily but now your food CAN BE MUCH BETTER. SOME OF YOUR FOOD IS NOT GREAT especially if the PIGEONS WON'T EAT SOME OF IT WHY SHOULD WE. Honestly this place doesn't even deserve one star. Especially after today for the following reasons: i went over to the T.C. Building to schedule enrollment assistance for school for my children, my wife worked a 12 hour graveyard shift when are case worker for family Alicia Limon interrupted my wife sleep. Mrs. Limon then approached me saying ( I've been looking for you and wanted me to sign exit papers). However when my family came here for assistance it was for my family. For housing not to split a family apart. I did not Sign any papers. My opinion is she is judgemental and to set in her ways. You can not get from point A to point B. With her she will NOT listen to you and she won't let you talk. She likes to get in to everyone's personal life. She causes nothing but problems she does NOT help. And the housing Liaison Minerva Rocco will mislead you in Housing assistance we had a organization that was going to assist us for 3 months and Mrs. Rocco told my self and my family not to take it, because the organization Saha was going to help us. However though (due to a Misdemeanor I got they disqualified myself). So because of these 2 people i have menthioned we lost on a sponsor who was going to assist us. So with these two things said in mind. They want to split up families. They get kicks out of it. So think before you get services from this non-profit organization. They DO NOT RELEASE housing Vouchers in a timely basis. They say they want to help but they don't.

The food on the members side sometimes isn't cooked thoroughly enough and has caused multiple people to get sick. While i am grateful for the actual bed and to be able to sleep indoors, i think its stupid that those who can't get a job, a.k.a. me because i recieve SSI, they still kick everyone outta the dorms between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, unless you either pay for a day sleepers pass, or bring in proof that you work at night. They also don't do anything about bullying.

They have programs to help everyone but they pick who they want to help like a popularity contest or something. But let you complain about something they refuse to help or try to get rid of you because they feel you being disrespectful or you exposed them for what they are doing and saying and I heard women gone missing from here and some of the women are found on the train tracks dead! There's a lady name Greta Johnson that works there, looks down on those in need and she very disrespectful and she also doesn't do her job unless her job is being threatened by the boss that's when she try to find every excuse to get someone that's in need thrown back on the streets just to keep her job and they also infested with bed bugs!!!!!

This place is fine if you have absolutely no where else to go and don't want to be on the street but some people prefer sleeping on a bench. They provide a mat to put on the ground outside. Pigeons walk all over people while sleeping and when it rains GET OVER IT, they don't care if you sleep in the rain. Not safe, most staff don't care and instigate situations. Most of your time will be spent waiting in a line. Plus the "members" side is filled with sexual predators. Don't go unless you absolutely have no other option. P.S. don't have an over dose or any life threatening event, you will most likely die due to staff not caring about their job... If only there were negative stars.

The effort to house homeless, are commendable. However, the help, usually, themselves, homeless castaways, seem to enjoy shafting newbies, by enforcing Rules, that get new needy people kicked out, ... by the, ... Strong, ... Muscular, ... police security guards, that kick new shelter people out of "Haven for Hope", on the spur of the moment, ... with no regard, for what may await them outside of the shelter, ... on the streets. the "Haven for Hope" shelter is located, in an extremely, ... high Crime neighborhood, .... just 2 blocks, .... from the Bexar County Jail.

The purpose of this place is to reduce the amount of money on law enforcement, as per the Bexar County Model. Weather you're the victim of crime and / or domestic violence forced onto the street because you had little means, a drug addict who won't stop and needs a bunk, or a dealer who stays on the street to avoid getting caught you'll be treated largely the same by people here. This place is overflowing because the Police won't do their job, and some of the people here are just as dangerous as they would have been in prison. If you can, avoid this place.

I've never lived there, but have visited. It is absolutely horrible how they treat some of these poor people. They treat people like prisoners & a friend of mine who is legally blind has been staying there for about a year & a half. They aren't even trying to get him a place or even bring him inside for a room. He doesn't have a drug or alcohol problem. just a seeing problem & an abuse problem. His caseworker at the Haven treats him like he smells of rottenness, but he keeps himself up pretty good for a homeless man. The people, there, take all his money. Keep your family far from this place.

This is a homeless shelter that tries to address the root cause.
There is an emphasis on Occupational Therapy.
The greatest problems deal with the sheer number of homeless.
Staff do deal with issues in an effective and professional manner.

About Haven for Hope

Haven for Hope is a non-profit organization that has been transforming the lives of people in San Antonio, Texas since 2006. It is more than just a shelter; it is a transformational campus that provides comprehensive services to help individuals and families overcome homelessness and poverty.

The organization was founded by Bill Greehey, the former CEO of Valero Energy Corporation, who saw the need for a holistic approach to addressing homelessness. He envisioned a place where people could receive not only food and shelter but also education, job training, healthcare, counseling, and other support services.

Today, Haven for Hope serves as a model for other communities across the country. Its campus spans 22 acres and includes more than 300 staff members and volunteers who work tirelessly to provide hope and healing to those in need.

One of the unique aspects of Haven for Hope is its focus on individualized care. Each person who comes through its doors receives an assessment to determine their specific needs and goals. From there, they are connected with resources that can help them achieve those goals – whether it's finding stable housing or getting treatment for addiction or mental health issues.

Another key component of Haven for Hope's approach is its emphasis on community building. The campus includes spaces where residents can gather together for meals or activities like gardening or art classes. This sense of belonging helps individuals feel less isolated and more connected to others around them.

In addition to providing direct services to clients, Haven for Hope also works closely with local government agencies and community partners to address systemic issues related to homelessness. Its advocacy efforts have helped bring about changes in policies related to affordable housing, mental health care access, criminal justice reform, and more.

Overall, Haven For Hope has made significant strides in improving the lives of people experiencing homelessness in San Antonio – but there is still much work left to be done. With continued support from donors and volunteers alike, this organization will continue making positive change in our community every day.
