As so many others have noted, this resort is a very special place. It is small enough to make you feel known, and large enough to offer impressively diverse activities that we so enjoyed over the course of a week. Those activities included diving or snorkeling almost every morning after a short boat ride out to an unbelievably alive reef, as well as "adventures" involving exceptional river canoeing, challenging and fabulous hiking to a waterfall to swim in a natural turquoise fresh water pool, birding during the amazing scarlet macaw migration, and exploring fascinating Mayan ruins. The staff to client ratio is extraordinary-snorkeling with a guide and only three other people allowed us to quietly observe the phenomenal fish and coral and learn about what we were looking at and yet still have a meditative experience. The staff who conducted the inland adventures had encyclopedic knowledge of plants, birds, history, the archaeology of the Mayans, etc. that they shared with generous heart and soul. The staff doing marine and inland adventures were totally wonderful people and extraordinarily attentive guides whose low key yet abundant expertise allowed for people at all different levels of experience to participate and enjoy. The resort offers wonderful opportunities to interact with people from many of the cultures in Belize -Garifuna, Creole, Mayan, Mestizo, and more. The extraordinarily skilled, knowledgeable and competent guides made each adventure distinctive, exciting and satisfying. The rooms were lovely, tasteful, comfortable, and the grounds were beautiful and lovingly maintained. Hamanasi's commitment to go the extra mile in service was also exemplified by the extent to which the dining staff were willing to accommodate the strict diet I had to follow -every single meal and snack was prepared in accordance with my needs.
In short, go to Hamanasi-it is a very special place!!

We just came back from a week and Hamanasi with ou...

We just came back from a week and Hamanasi with our two daughters, 9 and 5. I can't say enough about the resort. We stayed in a Deluxe Treehouse and a Treehouse (had a room switch halfway through) The Deluxe Treehouse was AMAZING! It was comfortable, clean, spacious, gorgeous, and made the beginning of our trip perfect. After dinner every night we sat in our hot tub which they fill for you. It was more of a large jacuzzi tub, but it was great. The Treehouse was also wonderful, but after the Deluxe we were spoiled:)

The customer service at Hamansi is beyond 5 starts. They go out of their way to get to know your name and to help in anyway that you need or want. There was never a second that I felt we were putting anyone out for asking questions or assistance. Since we had younger kids and wanted to take them snorkeling, they arranged for a private island snorkel where our guides support my 5 year old snorkeling and we got a private tour of the fish and the waters. It was a great family experience. On the days that we didn't do something as a family, my husband went out on a scuba trip which happens daily. Because most people go out on adventures daily, that left the pool area empty and my girls loved that.

The food was delicious. If it wasn't on the menu and they had the ingredients they will make you anything. They even offered half portions of anything on the adult menu in case your kids want something or you want a smaller portion. The pricing for anything that wasn't included was very reasonable -- for us it was drinks and kids meals.

We did rent a golf cart one day and go into "town". It really isn't a town and you can get through it in about 30 minutes. We went to a few shops but then we explored the area past Hamanasi and that was nice. It is a very underdeveloped town so if you do want to go in, don't expect loads of stuff.

We have been to Belize twice now, but Hamanasi by far was the best of the two and one of the top places we have ever stayed before. We are already talking about when we can go back!

This is a fantastic hotel!! The staff, from ground keepers to the managers were very nice, helpful and accommodating. If we asked for anything they bent over backwards to get it done. Down to having carrot cake for a second time while we were there! Which by the way was the best carrot cake we have ever had!!! The breads from breakfast theough dinner is all hand baked every morning. The food in general was fantastic!! One of the best resort foods we have had. The resort makes you feel like you are in the jungle but with all the amenities! We were always treated with smiles no matter where we were. They have bikes you can just hop on and ride around the little town of Hopkins. There are several little shops for gifts and a grocery store and little restaurants to get a bit to eat or a drink. The locals are friendly and speak good english. The only negative was the sarragadsom weed which is to no fault if hamanasi. The ground keepers worked all morning in the heat raking this up off the beach only to keep coming back. This is not always there it comes and goes different times of year. We were there while it was. But once you got past 10 feet the water was great!!! The dive staff was top rate they do all the work, your only job is to show up and follow the rules. We have been around many dive staff in our travels and this was the best. Shout out to Seadog!! We saw big Eagal rays, shark, sucker fish and a resident seahorse at our break between dives. We would recommend this place without a doubt!!!

This is probably the most amazing destination I have ever been. The diving is amazing! The dive masters are extremely personable and professional. If you want to dive the great blue hole or spear lion fish this is the group of divers to do it with! Thank you so much for all the incredible memories!

Decent place but if you are expecting adventure look elsewhere. They will not go diving if the water is even slightly choppy even if other dive groups are going out and will cancel inland tours even when the location itself is still doing tours. Place itself is nice, staff is great. Just not a place to go if you plan to do anything besides lay on the beach or swim in the pool.

My wife and I are just back from a week in paradis...

My wife and I are just back from a week in paradise, aka, Hamanasi. We're so grateful to each and every member of the large staff who helped make our stay as wonderful as it was. I can't recount all of the instances of individualized attention that we were treated to, but here's an example: Walking through the gorgeous grounds, I spotted a beautiful bird that I was unfamiliar with. A gentleman in his pressed Hamanasi shirt and slacks was passing by. I asked him whether he knew what kind of bird we were looking at. He said he wasn't an expert, but ventured a guess. Then he told me that he'd ask someone and keep an eye out for me to tell me for certain. About 15 minutes later, as I came from our room out onto the beach, he came walking up with a bird guide book in hand. He was right. It was a red-legged honeycreeper.
The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The servers are all very professional and knew our names by the second day. The restaurant is very attractive, and the second story balcony was extremely popular, with good reason. The view of the foliage, pool and sea is so pretty. Meals are also served on the patio, and, by request, on the beach.
Hamanasi walks the walk when it comes to being Green. No plastic toiletry containers. Instead, our shampoo and other items were contained in attractive wooden containers which were refilled daily. Upon arrival, we found two re-usable, metal water canteens in our room as well as a five gallon water dispenser. No plastic water bottles. Kitchen scraps and ground vegetation are composted in an area by the organic vegetable and herb gardens. These are only but a few examples of their practices.
We went on 4 adventures: two snorkel trips to the barrier reef; the jungle canoe trip; and the Mayflower Waterfall hike. Our guides were all exceptional. They were attentive to our needs, the pace, and any wildlife that they could point out for us. One bit of advice regarding the waterfall hike -- long pants, good footwear and bug spray are not optional. They are a necessity. After reaching the topmost point of the hike, we took the opportunity to enjoy a swim in the crystal pool at the base of that section of the falls. Afterwards, I chose not to put my long pants back on nor apply more insect repellant because our hike up seemed bug free. Mistake! My legs are itching still four days after returning home. No one with long pants had a problem.
The last thing I want to mention is that once we landed in Belize City, Hamanasi had everything ready and waiting. We made our way through the airport rituals to the counter of Mayan Air. Our tickets to Dangriga were waiting. After a short flight, we met up with the Hamanasi driver and van. We were handed cool, fresh wash cloths to refresh ourselves with, and off we went to Hamanasi.

I am a seasoned traveller and have been to many, many resorts around the world, both all-inclusive and non all-inclusive. I have no hesitation saying that Hamanasi is hands down the best run resort I have ever had the pleasure of staying at.

The level of personalized service is second to none. From the moment we arrived, after taking three separate flights to get there, we knew our 7 day adventure would be a top-notch experience. The airport pick up, the welcome drink, and the introductory tour were all signs that this was no ordinary facility. We loved our treehouse accommodation; thoroughly clean, amazing a/c, comfy beds, more than enough space both in the living/bedroom area and the bathroom, constantly refilled filtered water and wonderful, environmentally-friendly toiletries. The property as a whole is exquisitely maintained. We loved the pool area, never had a problem getting two chairs together. Another favourite spot was in the hammocks at the end of the Hamanasi dock, where we were lucky to see a couple of manatees swimming by one evening.

All of the staff, from housekeeping to the servers to the guides to administration are there to provide the best vacation possible for all guests. Our names were noted and remembered throughout our stay. By the third day, my standard morning latte was brought to me without even asking for it. The food is very good (still dreaming of that key lime pie), and the servers are so friendly without being intrusive. We did several of the adventures that were included in the package: snorkelling was great. The mayan ruins trip and the night hike in search of elusive jaguar were interesting (though unfortunately no jaguar was spotted). And the Mayflower hike was literally breathtaking (!), but we felt rewarded at the top with having Butterfly Falls and its clear, refreshing pool to ourselves! Definitely one of the highlights of the week.

Special shout outs to Alex who kept us well-plied with our favourite poolside libations; Abby, Lilly, and Birilla for amazing service at the restaurant; Antonio and Lorenzo for guiding us on wonderful adventures and, last but not least, Carlos, for putting up with our constant teasing! The entire staff, without exception, were first class!

As you can plainly see, I cannot recommend Hamanasi enough, and I'd be happy to answer any questions a prospective guest may have. In the meantime, pack!! And get ready for a memorable vacation.

One of the best trips ever!! I spent a week at the Hamanasi in November and whatever you have read about this resort....it's all true plus way more! The resort, accommodations, food.... all top rate. The adventures are not to be missed. (we did the Mayan tour, Cocoa Farm, and Diving- every one of them was exceptional). What makes the Hamanasi most special however are the people; the staff is remarkable. From the front desk, waitstaff, housekeeping, tour guides, etc, they are warm, friendly and made you feel more than welcome. Our experience was so great, we are coming back again. Thank you Hamanasi for making our trip as memorable as you did!

Our trip to this resort was just what we needed after not having the opportunity for a vacation in 9 years. It s hard to believe we were lucky enough to have found such a wonderful place. From before we left home the staff checked with us to make sure they had everything we wanted and needed ready upon our arrival including any special needs. Every single person at Hamanasi was so nice and pleasant. We were too tired to bother with any of the adventures but were not pressured to do anything. That was nice. We truly feel blessed to have found such a place and after only being home for a few days are already ready to go back.

Hamanasi is an incredible place to stay - especially if you are going on a honeymoon. We loved our private treehouse - it was EXACTLY what we needed after our wedding in the city. Not only was the treehouse private, but it was totally luxurious and exotic. It was nice that the resort was small enough to feel secluded, but had everything you needed intact. The beach was around the corner, the pool was beautiful, the onsite restaurant was incredible, and there were ALWAYS friendly staff members ready to assist. The staff was probably the nicest group of people I have met in my life. They genuinely cared about us and made us always feel welcome. It was nice to see the same folks serving us drinks, taking dinner orders, and planning excursions for us. The excursions were top notch too. We ensured we had just enough excursions to enjoy some recreational activities, but also have plenty of time to enjoy the resort itself. Our favorite excursions were the cave tubing and the tour of Mayan ruins.
We loved our experience so much, we have decided to return to Hamanasi again in the next few years. This place is a gem!

This resort was more then my wife and I could of expected. The service, food, adventures and staff are amazing. The part that blew me away was everyone addresses you by your first name (I m impressed they remember every guests name). The PADI diving experience was the best part. I highly recommend it.

We just returned from a fabulous week at Hamanasi. The resort is beautiful and is superbly maintained, and the food is delicious. It is the hospitality of the people, however, that makes the place. The staff at the hotel go out of their way to be friendly and helpful and the adventure guides are beyond belief. We are already planning to return next year.

Hamanasi Adventure & Dive Resort is the definition of a place you can go to "Not have a care in the world! " My husband and I had our honeymoon here and will be coming back for our anniversary! We did the honeymoon package and it was incredible! All inclusive food, bike, paddle boards, and kayaks, 5 adventures, couples message and a private dinner on the beach. Enormous amounts of gourmet food created by the best chefs and a fancy presentation of the food every night. Extremely clean and the staff had our names memorized after the first day. They made us feel like family not just customers. We would come back to our room and find hand written notes and even messages spelled out on our bed made out of flowers! When I said not a care in the world, I mean it! We never had to worry about plans or changes. Every time I asked do we need to go to the office and sign up for this or that the staff"s response was, "Don't worry someone will find you and take care of it for you!"

Hamanasi is a wonderful resort. My wife and I have gone there 3 years in a row and we love the facility, the water and all the activities they have. Their staff is one of the most customer friendly staff we have ever met. Their food is extraordinary. We have met some very talented folks from all over the world.
It is not just a resort it is an entertaining and educational vacation that continues to evolve and add new and unusual events to their calendar every year. They have numerous activities that you can engage in or just sit by the pool to read and have a refreshing drink. We purchased some of their bamboo lights and had them shipped back to Albany and they now are installed on the walls of our living room. They are both unusual and very beautiful.
We will be going back again to enjoy the snorkeling and new adventures.

Hamanasi, tucked away in the peaceful village of Hopkins, is a luxury retreat from the hectic demands of urban life. My immaculate and spacious treetop bungalow, the food, the scuba diving--all of it five star and absolutely memorable. The staff treat you like family and VIP guest all at the same time. I can't wait for my next visit.

Hamanasi is a wonderful resort. We were amazed at the level of service, the quality of food, and the beauty of the resort grounds. Every employee made our stay feel as if we the the most important people at the resort.

The diving was amazing and they do a fantastic job of taking you to great locations that are rarely populated by other divers. The guides are great people and super knowledgeable about their dive sites.

The food is simply outstanding. Using their on property organic garden they prepare fresh meals that change daily. The menu evolves each day to showcase new specials and fresh seafood.

Simply stated this was the best vacation spot I have ever been too. So if you want to go a little off the beaten path to a resort that really allows you to disconnect for a week you would be hard pressed to find anyone who does it better.

Food is very expensive for what you get. I got food poisoning while i was here. They dont spray for bugs ie. sand flies or mosquitoes bring alot of spray the more the better and bring citronella candles if you want to sit out at night. The "tree house" there is not built sturdy they used palm trees as their piles and the building shifts alot (dont move to fast). If your a diver try and book for when the whale sharks are in sometime just before or after the full moon .... you must dive with their dive crew though at least once if you want to go out and see the whale sharks.

This was a fabulous place not only for resting and...

This was a fabulous place not only for resting and relaxing , but for some amazing adventures. It was a family celebration with our adult kids and their significants. The main hotel building has a big beachy southern sort of feel. The atmosphere is open and airy, bright, immaculate and comfortable luxurious beautiful rooms. We rented 3 rooms. Two beachside and also a tree house. We were greeted with rum punches and orientated upon arrival. Also, Lorenzo picked us up in the comfy air-conditioned van from The Moorings in Placentia. All the drivers and tour guides have patience, are safe drivers, are well trained in their history and prepare you for the adventures. You will not be disappointed by your guides.... they are wonderful.
The restaurant is on the second floor and is gorgeous with teak wood beams, a long open outdoor balcony and huge interior dining room. You simply will not lack for anything in the main dining room. There are daily fish specials, and if you are a carnivore, you will not be disappointed. We also had a vegetarian member of our party and the food was fantastic. The breakfast burritos are EPIC. We were even packed a departure set of breakfasts. We did decide to do the all inclusive plan, so all 2 meals were included. On full day adventures the lunches were amazing. Homemade salsa, Belizean grilled chicken, or sandwiches and wraps. Pauline and Abby know how to make everyone happy and they even preordered a grilled dish for us for dinners when we dined late. That way, we knew we would have the lamb. The chef is amazing. I was sent a homemade bowl of chicken and veggie soup to my room when I felt coldish. Wish I could have this as a regular meal at home!
They are eco conscious and do a great job of handing every guest an aluminum refillable bottle with their logo on it to use and keep. There is plenty of purified and cooled water on the grounds and in the individual rooms to refill.
The pool area is lovely with hammocks and chaise lounges and plenty of towels and always wonderful beverage service.
The diving boats look gorgeous, and are big and powerful, well kept. If we were divers, THIS would be the place to go. (Might just have to return for a certification as this looks like a beautifully and well equipped place to go for this.
In sum, we truly want and hope to return to Haminasi. The staff and environs will make you feel like royalty with great humor and fun. It was a big trip for us, and worth every single cent. Thanks to all the staff.

wonderful experience

wonderful experience
What a place! The place is fantastic but it is really the people who make the experience unforgettable. The stuff is absolutely wonderful and bends over backwards to make all of your wishes come true.

The food was excellent and if you have special needs they do anything to give you what you need. On my birthday, I was surprised with a wonderful dessert at night.

First, we wanted a beach cottage but since we booked last minute, the only room available was a standard treehouse. Little we knew what a great choice we made. If one seeks quiet and total privacy, that's the way to go. If the view for the ocean is priority, the beach houses are okay but they are not freestanding. You won't have your own cottage but rather I think about 8 rooms side by side.

If you have a choice and want to live like a royal, go for the tree house deluxe as you get an amazing porch with a private whirlpool, a beautiful living room and a massive bathroom with two showers across of each other. It was like a little piece of heaven...we ended up in one of those on our last night.

During the day time it was fun to take advantage of the bicycles available. At night time, it was safer to take a shuttle but mostly because there are no street lights and the streets are not all paved. Since we share the world with wildlife, we didn't want to be surprised by any unforeseeable encounter.

We never had an issue with bugs or mosquitoes. However, we never kept our doors to the tree house open to give them an opportunity to enter. So as long as instructions are followed, no problem. Also, using at night the baby oil (I used coconut oil) for the ankles kept away those No-Seeums. Funny enough when I used the coconut oil on my whole body instead of the insect spray, no mosquito came near me either.

If cocktails are appreciated, this is definitely a fantastic place to consume some of those. The happy hour snacks were an absolute delight.

With reference to the ocean: It is the ocean, so no one can keep the ocean from being wild with windy weather ;). When we arrived, the water was calm and so beautiful and clear. On a windy day, I was a bit scared to go into the water as shuffling of the feet was even more needed to make sure not to frighten potential stingrays resting (never seen one though). There were a few clear jellyfish when I used the paddle board. Snorkeling is not done by the hotel.

Again, the place was just heavenly but what made for me a big difference is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

We travel a lot and therefore see a lot of good and bad in those travels. Every single thing at Hamanasi is a good! Truly I have never seen or experienced such flawless, caring and happy service! I could name names but the truth is every person we encountered whether grounds, housekeeping, front desk, servers or guides were delightful, fun and caring. We went cave tubing, enjoyed the strenuous mayflower hike, snorkeled, canoed and zip lined through the jungle. Loved it all. The food is abundant and delicious. We used the bikes and kayaks every day too. I cannot say enough about the relaxing, adventurous and exciting week we enjoyed or the wonderful amazing people who make Hamanasi what it is!

The people at Hamanasi treat everyone as if he or she is a VIP.

This gorgeous all-inclusive resort is nearly perfect. The food is excellent. The service is unusually excellent. The 5 Star PADI Dive Shop is above and beyond excellent. The diving was very good and snorkeling was as good as the diving! We did not stay in the treehouses, but the Oceanfront rooms are closer to the water and much more convenient, we thought. The only slight downside to the location is the need for bug repellent spray or oils. There was also spotty Wi-Fi service, back in 2013 when we were there, and only in a specific location near the main office and bar area (not in the rooms). It was hardly a problem, as we were running off to another dive trip or dinner before thinking too much about it. The trip was wonderful and I could not recommend it more highly.

We were fortunate to be able to return to the para...

We were fortunate to be able to return to the paradise that is Hamanasi for a second time, staying eight days/seven nights. For our first trip we were part of a group of six and this time it was just my husband and myself. Our expectations were stratospheric after our first stay and we were not disappointed this time.

Once again, we decided that it's the employees who make Hamanasi the amazing place that it is. Each staff member that we encountered went above and beyond to make sure our stay was relaxing, exciting and memorable, and they all remembered our names from the first day! Angel, who drove the van that took us from the Dangriga airstrip to Hamanasi, was polite, funny and full of interesting facts about everything we saw along the way. Mark, the bartender/manager was a great conversationalist. We loved hearing about his bamboo straw business. Kim, the hostess, worked hard to keep everything flowing smoothly at the restaurant while genuinely caring about each guest's experience. Birilla and Abby were both especially personable and efficient servers at dinner. Patricia checked in with everyone on their second or third day there to make sure all expectations were being met and to see if there was anything any of the staff could do to make the Hamanasi experience even more perfect. She wasn't just going through the motions; she took detailed notes and followed up on any suggestions or requests. Selvin eagerly took my husband on a tour of the wood shop where all of the woodworkers took time to explain the projects they were working on. These are just a few examples; there were many more. I'm just not as good at remembering names as all of the Hamanasi staff is!

We snorkeled for all five of our included adventures and Neal was our snorkeling guide throughout our trip. We had requested to have Neal as our guide when we made our reservation (we had enjoyed his approach to guiding on our first trip) and our request was honored. He even came in on his day off to be our guide as he had done the first time we were there. After observing many of the other snorkel guides on this trip, we decided that there are actually many who are top-notch: Bevin, Beaver, John, Sam and others.

Our only (tiny) complaint from our previous visit was what we considered the slow pace of dinner service. We thought that being part of a larger group might have been the reason for that. As we arrived at the restaurant for our first dinner this trip, we decided that we would ask if the pace of service could be a little faster. We mentioned it to Kim, the hostess, and after telling us that she was glad that we brought it up, she immediately relayed our request to our server. The result: we finished our three course dinner in 45 minutes to an hour instead of the 1.75-2 hours that had been the norm on our previous trip. We were delighted to see that pace continue night after night as our preference had obviously been shared with the entire waitstaff. We were very impressed with the accommodation that they were able to make for us.

A few random observations:
*We love that the resort never feels crowded even when it's at full occupancy
*Don't miss the complimentary snacks during happy hour (4:00-6:00 PM every day)
*My husband says the coffee by the bar in the morning is stronger/better than the coffee in the restaurant
* The upstairs library is a cool, quiet place to read or relax
*The bathrooms downstairs by the bar are cooler than the ones upstairs near the library
*You can rent a golf cart for $30 for 2 hours if you don't want to walk or ride bikes to town
*Returning guests are given a 10% discount on their reservation
*Maya Island Air (Belize City to Dangriga) seems to frequently have delayed flights
*Don't forget to look into Pack for a Purpose (on the Hamanasi website) to donate school, medical and pet supplies to local schools and clinics

Hamanasi is a place that you really have to experience at least once in your life. Just go you won't be disappointed!

I have been to Hamanasi five times and not even the word Heaven describes it adequately. Like the bar "Cheers," it's the place where everybody knows your name. Tucked unobtrusively into the trees just beyond the shore, the oceanfront rooms and jungle treehouses are wonderfully comfortable. It's the best scuba diving operation I've experienced in 34 years of diving, and every single employee makes it clear that your happiness is the most important thing to them. Jump in the pool and then be served the day's amazing original drink created by bartender Mark. And the food! A wonderful buffet breakfast while you sit outside overlooking the pool and Caribbean Sea. Amazing lunch choices like grilled snapper sandwich or delicious salads. At dinner in lobster season, the lobster tails are so large they overhang the edges of your plate. Tantalizing desserts. Kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and bicycles to use anytime you like. The people in the local town, Hopkins, are friendly and helpful. I just can't think of any other place where I can relax so completely, and start missing the people who work there the same day I leave. Don't miss this chance to learn about the beautiful country of Belize.

My husband and I stayed at Hamanasi in June of this year. We opted for the 8 day-7 night package which included 5 adventures. We both agree that this was the best vacation we have ever taken in many ways.
The resort is small with fewer that 30 rooms so the resort never felt crowded. We stayed in a treehouse which was private, clean and comfortable. It is a very short walk to the Main House where the gift store, office, library, bar & lounge and restaurant are. The grounds are beautiful and offer opportunities to see the local wildlife and plants.
They have a lovely pool a few steps from the Main House, which we didn't use. A short walk from the pool is the beach and dock. We preferred swimming off the beach every afternoon. Kayaks are available for use and the waters are calm and perfect for kayaking.
Our adventures exceeded our expectations. Don't miss the Mayan archeological sites. Our guide was Lorenzo and his knowledge of Mayan history made the trip very interesting and fun. We were lucky enough to see a family of Howler Monkeys moving through the trees as well as a Toucan.
The other inland trip we took was to Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary & Jaguar Preserve. Here we hiked through the rain forest to a waterfall with our guide Lorenzo. His knowledge of the local fauna and flora as well as the history of the area enriched the adventure.
By far our favorite adventure was the snorkeling. We enjoyed it so much we paid for an additional snorkeling trip during our stay. I can't recall the names of all our snorkel guides but every one of them was knowledgable about the marine life and respectful of the protected reefs we visited.
We had 1 free afternoon and decided to rent a golf cart and go into the town of Hopkins. The golf cart rental was just up the street from our resort and the Hamanasi office staff was very helpful and arranged for the rental for us. Very fun!
We can't say enough good things about this lovely place and the friendly staff. My husband and I agree that we felt like family.
I wish I had written this review sooner as we would have like to mention several other staff members by name that we felt went above and beyond to make our stay relaxed and comfortable.
Thank you all at Hamanasi for a wonderful and unforgettable vacation. We will be back.

WOW! I can't even describe how incredible this place is! Hamanasi far exceeded my expectations. Tip top service, immaculate deluxe treehouses nestled in the jungle like environment with beautiful flowers and wildlife, (we stayed in #30 at the far end which I highly recommend), delicious food, wonderful guides and outstanding adventures.

We brought our boys ages 5 and 7 (and so did my sister's family) and Hamanasi was perfect for them. They are at great ages to explore, swing, snorkel, play and also participate in an adventure every day. The snorkeling (about 20 min ride out on a boat to the barrier reef) was so clear, so beautiful and we saw sting rays, nurse sharks, barracudas, hundreds of fish, coral, colors, etc. One of the best adventures included in our Adventure Package.

Canoeing and Waterfall hike were just as exciting - saw some huge iguanas, and coatis in the trees. Even though the Mayflower hike was rated strenuous - our boys did awesome. The actual hike was a little humid and challenging at the end, yet rewarding once you dive into the waterfall. Cold and refreshing!

The guides played with the kids the entire trip - they became family to us. (The boys connected with Kirk and Densil !!) The rest of the trip was filled with pool time, kayaking and SUP (always available) and relaxing. Each night there was a surprise with music, dancing, etc. You must go! Worth the $. Enjoy!

One of the best vacations I have had in a very long time. By day two, most of the staff were addressing my girlfriend and I on a first name basis. They consistently went out of their way to ensure we were 100% satisfied with our stay.
Trips arranged through the hotel were extremely well organized. Made for zero stress excursions.
I couldn't recommend more highly.

To all the staff of Hamanasi,

To all the staff of Hamanasi,

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the impressive and gracious services you have provided us.

My experience started as a thought of giving my husband a surprise 40th birthday. To give you a brief background, my husband is always the one planning all our vacation trips. So when I did this, I researched a lot of places for I don't want my husband to put a blame on me for a failed trip. Since diving Belize is in one of our bucket list, I thought of choosing Hamanasi out of the 2 resorts I scouted. Simply because I read a lot of good reviews in trip advisory with a 4.5 star rating.

Our experience with you was something we never expected. From the first day of scouting for a decent resort, Cynthia was very professional in exchanging emails with me. The directions on how to get to the transfer plane and what to prepare during our trip were awesome tips. The reminders on charging our credit card was a plus. That simply tells us how much you value and care for your guest.

The pick up from Dangriga airport was a pleasant and smooth transfer. The welcoming of the guest was an outstanding idea. You oriented us on what to expect during our stay.

You have a a lot of adventure trips to choose from which does not limit your guest to something they refuse to do or force to do. Anastacio in the adventure center was very accommodating. The other lady in the adventure as well (pardon me, I forgot her name) went an extra mile to find a shoe for me to use during the hike. Now that is an outstanding customer service. And what was great about the adventure as well was the idea of packing our scrumptious lunch and snacks if we will be on the road/ocean the entire day. Your driver/guide Antonio was very informative and knowledgeable about the trip. Our DMs Garffin (big daddy) who never gave up on me and was an expert in calming me down, C-dog who essentially stopped me from having decompression sickness while in Blue Hole and Martin who has a listening ear for us disobedient divers as per our dive computers.

The food was great with a distinct classy taste. You could taste the freshness and the love they put on cooking/preparing the meals. Considering we love spicy food, your chilly sauces definitely put a heat on us. We love it. To top it all with respectful servers.

Housekeeping never fail to impress us with their creativity and delivering their unique messages to their guest. Our room was well kept and organized.

With all this wonderful experiences, we are definitely a very satisfied guest. You left us with a message that we are not just a number but we are family. We commend you guys for the job well done.

Please accept this letter as a token of our appreciation and we will definitely come back not just the two of us but with our 2 young kids and more families and friends on our future vacations.

In January of 2018 I returned to the Hamanasi with my wife for the second year in a row, and to our delight it was even better this time than the year before. This is a very unique resort that is ideal for guests who want an active vacation. If you are looking for a glitzy hotel, with lots of people around, where you spend much of your time by the pool or on a golf course, this is probably not the right choice for you.

However, if you want to spend your vacation in a gorgeous setting where you can explore the ocean, the jungle and the country of Belize, then the Hamanasi is for you.

For example, this year we took two snorkel trips (one to the Blue Hole), saw the howler monkeys on the Monkey River, swam in the pool at the top of the Mayflower hike, climbed a jungle trail to see the scarlet macaws in the wild and took inter tubes deep into a cave. Plus, on a couple of days we hung out at the resort kayaking and taking long walks on the beach. By the way, on the adventures resort guides go with you and they are extremely informative.

In case you are wondering if you are too old or too young to enjoy the Hamanasi, the answer is that it seems to appeal to all age groups. We were probably some of the oldest guests (77 and 72), but we spent time with a number of honeymoon couples and middle age couples.

And I would be remiss if I didn t mention the food at the Hamanasi because it is delicious and healthy. They serve three full meals a day, including a variety of vegetables from their own impressive garden, fresh fish and fruit that tastes like it was just picked. Yes, there is a bar, which is a good place to socialize with other guests, especially while enjoying the drink of the day during Happy Hour.

Finally the staff at the Hamanasi makes you feel so welcome. They greet you by your name and treat you like family. Everyone working there seems to be proud of the resort and ready to do whatever they can to make sure you have a special vacation

I celebrated my 30th Birthday at Hamanasi and it was paradise on earth. The staff here treated my best friend and I like family. We were always greeted no matter where we went and felt very welcomed. The food was to die for. There were so many options to choose from during each meal.

Having the beach in front of our rooms was amazing, I love the sound of the ocean. Staying here includes two off resorts excursions (with our package of choice). We Visited a chocolate farm and made homemade chocolate. We also went snorkeling on the Belize barrier reef. Both experiences we'll never forget.

She & I made so many friends here. We were sad to leave but, we will most definitely be back!

Thanks for an awesome & unforgettable trip!

We were a family of 9 including a Two year old. We found this resort to be very comfortable, attentive to all and truly a staff who enjoy their guests. The private beach was always groomed as well as the grounds. So very easy to relax and take in the view. Many in our group opted for the first rate diving- excellent crew, memorable diving and back in time for a wonderful lunch. Rooms were comfortable and always had great cleaning service. Meals are amazing including the wine selection. It was everything previous travelers said it would be.

What an amazing stay at Hamanasi! I recently spent a week here with my family (parents in their 60s, kids in their 20s-30s). We had a great trip. There was something to do for everyone in the family and the resort provided a perfect mixture of relaxation and adventure.

Adventures: Hamanasi's adventure packages had a great variety for people of any skill/athletic level. Making a reservation was very easy and the guides were so caring, easy-going and knowledgeable about Belize's history and nature. We visited the ruins, went caving, and snorkeled around some incredibly pristine reefs.

Diving: Personally, I thought the diving was out of this world! I received my advance dived certification while staying here and completed some amazing dives with bull sharks, reef sharks and giant green sea turtles. They also took us to some spots that had some great coral cover and variety. The dive guides were hilarious, incredibly attentive and really knew what they were doing. The gear that I rented was well-kept and very good quality. I hope to return soon to do more diving with them!!

Resort: The rooms were stunning and the grounds were also beautiful!! Everything was so well maintained and unlike some of the neighboring resorts, they managed to keep a lot of the trees and natural vegetation up to the water line, which made it feel very private and like you were emerged in Belize's natural beauty. The main building holds the restaurant, front desk, bar and has a lovely back patio that overlooks the pool and the ocean. There's also a roof deck which provides a perfect view of the sunset. The food and drinks were delicious and the kitchen and wait staff were very accommodating for any dietary restrictions and food preferences.

I hope to return again soon!

This was our first time in Belize and will definitely be coming back. And also to Hamanasi. They are AMAZING!! They found the perfect balance between pampering their guests and still providing a wonderful, cultural experience. The food was 3 course fine dining; the rooms were decadent yet simplistic, the adventures were safe and exciting and the staff....oh I actually should say the Hamanasi family....they were so happy and warm and welcoming. They knew our names and wants and needs instantly. They thought of details before we asked for them. Everything from the grounds to the pool to the restrooms was clean, beautiful and well thought out. Thank you Hamanasi!!

WOW! What a Place!

WOW! What a Place!
How lucky we are to have found Hamanasi! In planning our vacation, our family of four (54, 53, 24 and 21 years old) was looking for place that offered relaxation as well as adventure. We chose to visit Belize because of the convenience in traveling from North Carolina and we were looking for a resort that offered relaxation as well as adventure. Searching online, we found Hamanasi and were immediately intrigued by the eco-friendly focus. The adventures sounded great and the photos looked amazing so we booked a week in December and made the trip.
Little did we know what awaited us! From the moment we met Jose at the airport, we felt so welcomed. He shared so much with us on our short ride to the resort-he even backed up the van and pulled over so that we could take pictures of a toucan that he had spotted in a tree. Jose could not have been more friendly, hospitable or engaging. It was great meeting him!
Arriving at the resort, we were greeted with cold drinks and a visit to the Adventure Center where Tony helped us plan the things that we wanted to do during our visit. He was very thorough with his explanations and descriptions of the activities and what we should expect on each adventure.
Our adventures:
-Cave Tubing-our first adventure and oh, so much fun! We were greeted early in the morning by Bern who was to lead our adventure that day. On the drive to the location, Bern shared so much knowledge about Belize. We were enamored with his knowledge, friendliness and personality! The hike through the jungle and the cave tubing were both unforgettable and something we would all like to do again some day. This was an entire day trip and Hamanasi packed our lunch and provided all that we needed. It was a fantastic experience.
-Mayflower Hike and Waterfalls-this adventure was led by Antonio and Jose and we had a fantastic day with them! Again, we learned so much about the vegetation in the jungle as we hiked up the mountain. It was spectacular and an adventure that we will never forget! Reaching the pool at the top of the hike was refreshing and gorgeous. We would definitely repeat this again!
-Nighttime Jungle Hike-led by Antonio who taught us so much more about the jungle, especially the creatures of the night. It was very fun and a great learning experience for all of us! We did see some interesting night creatures but no jaguars on this visit! We loved Antonio and he was a wonderful guide.
Diving and Snorkeling:
-We had excellent snorkeling trips and dive adventures! We were able to visit the Blue Hole which was not the highlight of the trip. The other two stops we made offered fabulous views under the sea and we thoroughly enjoyed our picnic at Lighthouse Reef. We were able to see nurse sharks, bull sharks, octopus and a sea turtle to name just a few. Our guides (Evan, Ash and John) were excellent and easy going and made the trip so much fun.

All in all, this was a dream vacation for our family and we enjoyed each and every minute of it and were not ready to leave when it was time to go! Hamanasi is beautiful and the adventures were over-the-top. However, our most favorite and memorable part of the trip was the relationships that we built with the staff. They are "top-notch" and experts on Belize. From the restaurant staff to the front desk staff to the housekeepers and gardening staff, every one was friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure to be a guest at Hamanasi!

Hamanasi is a beautiful resort. The grounds, beach...

Hamanasi is a beautiful resort. The grounds, beach, and pool are beautiful and kept incredibly tidy, the whole area is beautifully landscaped and full of fascinating birds and wildlife. The rooms are beautifully furnished and of good size, i think all have king beds and the furnishings are a very high quality. Because I booked to late to get one room for my whole stay, I actually had to change rooms a few times, and each time the staff moved my luggage to the new room while I was at an activity, and I got a discount for my "inconvenience". I stayed in four different rooms and all were beautiful, from the deluxe treehouse with jacuzzi and kitchen/living room to the basic beachfront room. Even their least impressive room was a pleasure to stay in.
The restaurant and bar area are well appointed and elegant while still being comfortable and homey. There is also a gorgeous library to use if you need good wifi, and multiple decks and verandas with comfortable seating and a beautiful view.
The most amazing thing about Hamanasi is the staff. Never have I experienced such attention to detail combined with warmth and friendliness. All the staff make the effort to get to know the patrons and strike up a chat, find out if you need anything or just say hello. I spent a lot of time photographing birds and many of the guides and groundskeepers who came across me took the time to point out birds and lizards and help me identify the ones I had seen. Everyone seems to have a great sense of humor and looks to be having a good time -- I hope they enjoy their jobs as much as they appear to. The Jungle and Reef adventure guides were knowledgeable, accommodating and a pleasure to spend time with.
The restaurant serves tasty, fresh food with an emphasis on grilled seafood and meat dishes, salads, fresh fruit and vegetables and some traditional Belizean stews and curries and ceviche. The evening fare was particularly healthy, which is nice if you have to eat somewhere every night. The lunches were delicious tacos, salads, burgers , and other similar dishes. and the kitchen provides tasty sandwiches, fruit and snacks on the excursions. Breakfast is similarly excellent with light and hearty options.
I would absolutely recommend Hamanasi and although it is not a budget option, I feel it offers very good value for money.
The only negatives I would even mention were the wines I had were not particularly good (but the beer and cocktails were great) and I would have preferred a little snorkel training in the pool for beginners.

(Some photos are from trips taken with Hamanasi guides)

You've probably noticed that Hamanasi has incredible reviews. I can confirm that it's all true. My wife and I recently had our honeymoon at Hamanasi, and I'm now in a state of depression because I no longer live at Hamanasi. Its that good. Here's a run-down:

The Room: We stayed in a deluxe treehouse. Amazing. Huge, very very private and beautifully decorated with Mahogany furniture made on site. It was truly stunning. The treehouse has huge windows, where you will see gorgeous tropical birds, butterflies and iguanas hanging out in the trees. The hot top (also very private) on the deck was incredible. They will even heat it to the exact temperature you want. There was turn down service every night as well, which is a great touch.

The Food: Fresh, delicious, amazing. We never had a bad meal. We never even had a "just OK" meal. Everything was great, they had great options the the menu changed slightly each night. The desserts were out of this world. The key lime pie is the best I've ever had, and I've spent a decent amount of time in Key West.

The Adventures: This was one of the big selling points for us in choosing Hamanasi (along with the treehouse) and it didn't;t disappoint. There are plenty to choose from, and we split our days between ocean adventures (snorkel and diving on the gorgeous southern reef) and the jungle, where we hiked up to a waterfall in the Maya mountains and through a cave where we were underground for a mile. Hamanasi's guides are true pros. They are full of information and energy. You will learn a lot. Shout out to Victor, Bern, EMS and Dencil (our jungle crew) and Sam, Beaver, Evan, etc (our ocean crew).

The Service: I've never experienced better service in my life, full stop. The staff goes above and beyond and are incredibly friendly. Everyone knew our names by the first day. Anything we wanted we just asked for and they made it happen, easily. It is the most well run resort you'll ever go to. The servers and managers at the restaurant are fantastic (Rosie and Abby!) and the bartender (Amir) makes a killer drink. Everything is really just perfect.

Eco: This is a true eco resort. No single use plastic. No waste. Even the straws were made from bamboo. We took a lot of these tactics home with us and are now living more eco-friendly lives because staying at Hamanasi made us realize how easy it is to do.

The People: This is the most important of all. The people at Hamanasi and the people of Belize in general are incredible. Big hearts, big smiles. Authentic. Happy and friendly. Always willing to help. You're welcomed with open arms. We truly felt "at home" at Hamanasi, and a lot of it had to do with the wonderful people who live and work there.

I cannot wait to go back.

Hamanasi was by far one of the most relaxing and most enjoyable vacation our family has had in a long time! The resort is not commercialized and it is very homey. Everyone knows you by your first name and before long even knew our preferences at the dinner table. The entire staff catered to us and our every need and they are so friendly. The adventure staff including our driver from the airport were knowledgeable and were able to share many details about Belize and the area around us. The snorkeling and zip-lining were our favorites!
If you need to relax this is the place to be and being unplugged from the world for a short time and was a wonderful family experience that myself, my husband and our 18 and 20 year old girls actually enjoyed! After dinner spending time in the lounge with the friendly bar staff was great! I cannot say enough about it and my girls have already said they want to go back next year!

Did not stay here but did visit on occasion and had dinner in their main dining service was AMAZING!! Our server asked about allergies without prompting and seemed genuinely interested and helpful in choosing dishes. He even helped us take a photo at the end of dinner as this was our fancy date night of the vacation. The manager talked with us after based on my comment card and asked my genuine opinion on my bar drink, which he took notes on. You can tell the staff really care here!

My short review :)

My short review :)

Friendly and solicitous staff
Knowledgeable guides
Guide to tourist ratio
Delicious food!
Excellent accommodations

And one a bit longer ;)

We came as a group of 11 over spring break 2018. We stayed in 1 beachfront room and two deluxe tree house rooms.
We did the all inclusive 6 day/4 tours option.

Highlights:

Friendly and solicitous staff We were SO WELL taken care of! We were greeted by name--everyone, wait staff, housekeeping, guides, front desk, learned our names and used them. They also cared that we were having a good time, asking about our day, tours, sleep, and meals.

Knowledgeable guides introduced to a large variety of flora and fauna by name, often with an accompanying history or story.

Guide to tourist ratio Hamanasi keeps it low. I ve never been snorkeling before in a small group with our own guide pointing out and naming fish and coral.

Delicious food! Excellent variety! For dinner, one side of the menu stayed the same and the other changed nightly. Everything we ate was delicious!

Housekeeping twice a day, super clean, excellent accommodations!

Tours we did were:
Mayflower Mayan Hike strenuous, but amazing with a waterfall at the top.

Cave and Jungle Hike very cool. Everyone went on this hike (48 years to 10 years old). Swimming hole at the end, fabulous lunch provided by Hamanasi.

Canoeing spotted tons of wildlife

Snorkeling great!

Private drumming lesson suggested by the adventure staff for our 10 year old. Drummers came to the resort. It was perfect.

Chocolate tour making and sampling our own chocolate, what could be better?

Tips:
We took along Sawyer Picardin insect repellent lotion and spray. The bugs were not a problem for us.

We took along light weight hiking pants and long sleeved rash guards for hiking/snorkeling.

Bring along a backpack to carry your free water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray on tours.

I am not sure where to start, other than everything from the initial contact with reservations through the airport transfer back to Dangriga for the flight home was absolutely fantastic.

My wife and i took 5 of our kids on an adventure filled vacation. We stayed in 2 of the deluxe tree houses which were very nice. The grounds of the resort are great. There is a very nice pool, spa, and dock to relax on during your time at the resort. There are plenty of kayaks and paddle boards to use as well.

All of the meals, which are included, were delicious.

Each adventure we did was top notch. We went diving four times, including going out to the Blue Hole. Our family did the Mayan Tour, Mayflower hike, Jungle and Caves, Chocolate Tour, and snorkeling.

Everyone at the resort had customer service as their top priority whether it was my wife and I, or our kids. They always asked how things were going, and what could they do better.

Several resort staff really went out of their way to ensure a fantastic vacation -- Adventure Staff -- Lauren, Maureen, Arne, and Hartfield.... Dive Staff -- Evan, Sam, Dencil, Munster, Bevin, Dale, Darren, Jessie, and Garif (Big Daddy). Servers -- Rachel, Ector, LIlly, Ambrosio, Abby, and Mark.

Our family has a lot of great memories. We cannot wait to go back to Hamanasi....

Me and wife have been here 2 separate times, and we still talk about coming back after over 3 years. We love the short walk to the beach from the tree house. Both times we splurged on the deluxe tree house, and we were glad we did. But make no mistake about it, this place is head and shoulders above ANY resort with service and friendliness. The food is A+, this is the perfect 10 vacation. The staff is like family, they show a genuine concern for all the guest. I wish I could write better - my review can't explain how awesome Hamanasi is. Just know this - EVERY guest I spoke to BOTH times talked about how they had to come back. We just spent 3 days and nights at Hamanasi and I cannot sing enough praises for this resort! Besides the fact that it is a beautiful and perfectly groomed property, the staff are beyond exceptional and make you feel like a celebrity, always greeting you with your name, always helpful and always with a smile on their face! Nothing was too difficult and they went above and beyond catering for our every need! The food was delicious and changed every day so we got to try so many dishes and loved them all! We didn't dive as we were traveling with our young son so I can't comment on that activity but the half day fishing trip was really fun as was the night hike in the Jaguar preserve, although a bit muddy during our visit! The room to book is the deluxe treehouse with hot tub! It was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean, and had everything we needed for a fabulous stay!!! thank you Hamanasi team for a great introduction to Belize! We will be back for sure!!!

This was our second stay at Hamanasi, the first was 8 years ago. Hamanasi is still perfect. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay. The property is beautiful. We stayed in both a treehouse and a beachfront room and loved them both. Every person you have contact with goes out of their way to be helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Our adventures were snorkeling, the river canoe trip and the jaguar preserve. The perfected resort. Our trip to Hamanasi was to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday and could not have been better down to each tiny detail. The planning beforehand was so simple and the communication was so clear, including in-country flights and airport transfers. When we arrived in Belize City, we knew exactly where to go and what to expect for the entire trip.

From the moment we arrived, each person greeted us by our first names. Knowing we had an early flight that morning, as soon as we arrived we were led to the restaurant for lunch before a short orientation to the resort and the grounds. This is only one of many examples of how well-cared for we felt throughout our stay.

We booked a deluxe tree house and it was so comfortable, private, and beautiful that we had to make the difficult decision to hang out in the tree house, on the porch in the hammock, or go to the beach. We really enjoyed having access to the stand-up paddleboards and kayaks on the beach and took advantage of the well-run tour/adventure office on site doing a snorkeling trip and a cave trip.

We avoid large sprawling resorts and have always stayed in smaller local places. Hamansai is the best of everything a vacation in a sustainably run smaller place with amazing fresh food (from their garden on site!), a sense of quiet privacy and community, and luxurious rooms.

We are already planning our next trip, something we don t do often. We can t say enough of our stay and experience at Hamansai.

If you stay at Hamanasi.....you'll want to go again. Have been there three times and just booked a fourth. The resort is in a beautiful tropical setting and accomodations fit the setting well. I have stayed in their Standard Beachfront, Tree House and Deluxe Beachfront accomodations and would recommend any of them to a friend or fellow traveler. The meals, dining area and bar are all excellent. Lots of local flavor is offered in the menu and there are always new and creative cocktails posted to try in the bar. The resort is true to it's name in providing great inland and diving adventures. Love the reef and atoll diving there. Lot's to do and see inland as well. Lastly, my sincerest compliments to/for the Hamanasi staff. They are all top notch. Best I've met in all my travels.....

Perhaps the best vacation our family has taken in years. Hamanasi is simply perfect. The service is like nothing I've ever experienced. Everyone learns your name, treats you like they truly care and takes pride in the resort. My son had a nut allergy, about which we notified them ahead of our arrival. Hamanasi staff went above and beyond to make his dining seamless and carefree. We knew we were in great hands. Everything about this place is magic. Cannot recommend it enough.

If you're going to Belize, this is where you want ...

If you're going to Belize, this is where you want to stay. Small, secluded, and personal. The resort itself is very convenient, it's not super packed like other places we've stayed, and the staff is second to none.
For diving, the boats are large enough to accommodate their group sizes and then some. The crew really knows their stuff, and is super friendly/ helpful. Dive with them throughout the week and they'll take you to places THEY like to dive- not just the general run of the mill locations.
We stayed in a beachfront room for half, and a treehouse the other half. Both were fantastic. The treehouse was back in the woods, and really made us feel like we were in the jungle. The room itself was beautiful. The only complaint here was that it rained for most of the week, and the room would be rather humid when we got back from wherever. Not a lot they can do about that, just an observation.
Food is always prepared as you order it, no buffet here. This really adds to the value. There are bugs here, but you've gotta remember- you're in a rain forest. The resort is close enough to the water where we really didn't notice them.
Inland tours are nuts! If you want to see Belize, the Mayan tours will let you do just that, and the locations are nothing short of amazing.
I could drone on, but you get it.... This is THE destination in Belize.

I went to Hamanasi on a couple's retreat with my fiance. It was my first time in Belize and I took a chance on Hamanasi because it had great reviews and I'm glad I did! There's not much more I can add to the plethora of raving reviews about the beauty of the resort and the amazing service (except to say it's all true!), but I will add that if you're a vegan like I am, the hotel's restaurant, Sangiga, will take this into account and offer you delicious vegan meals or vegan-ize any menu dish you want to eat. Overall, the experience was impressive first impression of the travel industry in the country and it will forever be one of my favorite vacations!

This really was one of the most beautiful and wond...

This really was one of the most beautiful and wonderful places we have ever visited. My family and I went down in Mid-October and had the most amazing time at Hamanasi. I m going to separate my review into two sections only because I want to give both the Resort staff and the Diving Crew s their dues.

Resort: This place is spectacular. The grounds are kept immaculate (compared to some of the other beaches nearby). The rooms are spacious, well set up and come with everything you need. We especially liked how environmentally conscious this resort is. From filtered water dispensers in each room, to gifting you with a metal reusable water bottle when you arrive, to the organic gardens where virtually all of the produce you eat is produced. From the very beginning all the staff asked and then knew our names. It was the low season so instead of a full house they had about 60 guests but every staff member knew every guests name. All the staff were welcoming and friendly, we got to know a lot of them and they were so happy to be working there it was infectious. They all take pride in the service they are providing which truly made for an exceptional experience. I m sure this would be like a lot of other resorts if it weren t for the incredible staff. And maybe the fresh salsa and ceviche every day, seriously I could have eaten my weight in that and probably did. On that note the food was divine, and they were super conscientious about food allergies. They also made a divine Caye (*pronounced Key) Lime Pie. Seriously try it.

Diving: My dad and I are the divers in my family and part of the reason for this trip was to dive in Belize. It did not disappoint. I have lived in Hawaii for 3 years and most of my diving has been out there so diving in the Caribbean was a bit of a shock to my system. Its like diving in the most beautiful aquarium. We saw sharks, turtles, eagle rays and more. The guides were stellar as well, a wealth of local knowledge of the areas, history and culture. They really care about their environment there and the reef they are so lucky to dive every day. The comradery among the crew was wonderful to see and made all our trips so enjoyable. We went to Glover s Reef (3 tank dive) and the Blue Hole (3 tank dive) and did a local Barrier Reef dive (2 tank). The 3 tank s were truly exceptional though I can t say anything bad about the local dive either. Diving at the Blue Hole is interesting but the second two dives they do after it at Lighthouse Reef were the highlight of my trip. Go for those, the Blue Hole is just a bonus. To the crew, Hansel, Big Daddy, C-Dog, John, and Medel were absolutely incredible and made us feel like part of the family. Also their taste in music is fantastic on the boats, probably my favorite part of the trip. The gear and boats are kept in excellent condition.

We certainly will recommend this to all our friends and will probably have to come back too. There s a long list of other places in the world to go to but after spending such an amazing time here it is on the short list of places to return to. Thank you to everyone there who made our stay so wonderful, we cannot thank you enough.

Hamanasi thinks of every detail. By far the best place I've been. The staff and grounds are both wonderful. They go above and beyond. They were very accommodating to our 8 and 10 year old children. Vacations can be stressful and a lot of work for a parent, but I felt pampered and relaxed the entire time. It was hard to leave! We like to visit different places in vacation, but it will be hard not to go back to Hamanasi.

Everything about the Hamanasi far exceeded our exp...

Everything about the Hamanasi far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a regular treehouse and loved it! Each treehouse is privately tucked away in the jungle, but just steps from the ocean and the main house. The rooms are furnished well, with clean linens and towels, a great shower, his/her sinks, a really comfortable bed, an air conditioner, a cool porch with hammock, and a jug of clean, filtered water that they keep full for you. You even have umbrellas in your room in case it rains, and a shoe cleaning kit if it gets muddy.

The most impressive part was the service. From the time we arrived (before we even checked in), every member of the staff knew us by name, and knew our dietary restrictions. At the restaurant, if the bread or soup or dessert had something in it we couldn't have, they'd bring us a custom one! The servers could all point to things on the menu that we couldn't have because of food sensitivities, but would also be quick to find an alternative. The bartenders knew us by name and remembered our drink preferences. Housekeeping came twice a day and keeps the rooms very clean.

The first day, Hamanasi put a bottle of wine in our room, but we didn't want it right when we got there, so they kept it for us at the wine bar to to have with dinner one night. We only drank two glasses at dinner, so they saved it for us to have the next night!

We did three adventures. Snorkeling, Mayan Ruin tour, and Mayflower hike. We loved them all. The tour guides were all experts and made you really feel like you learned a lot. The guides are also your driver to and from the adventures so you get to know them along the way. All are extremely nice and you can tell they really enjoy working at Hamanasi.

The pool is quaint and overlooks the ocean. The bartenders walk around to see if you want drinks served to you at the pool. They'll even send someone out to knock down coconuts from the tree to serve your drink in a fresh coconut!

For alcoholic beverages that aren't included in your package, prices are reasonable, especially during the daily happy hour from 4-6, during which the kitchen also puts out freshly made bar snacks like empanadas and vegetables.

Our package included a 90 minute couples massage, which we did right on the beach in a private gazebo, and was the best massage we've ever had.

We also liked how easy it was to meet other people at the resort because it's so small and everyone was so friendly.

You will not get wifi except in the main house, and even then it's spotty, so it really helps you disconnect. But if you need it, it's there.

One thing I'll say is that it does get very buggy. You're right in the jungle, so take the long pants and bug spray seriously. But the rooms and restaurant are always well air conditioned, so even in long pants and long sleeves, you'll still be comfortable.

The owners have done a great job with this resort and the staff. We hope to be back!

Other reviewers have spoken of the wonderful aspects of Hamanasi, and I echo their comments. Beautiful site, 5-star service, superb dining, and truly interesting and educational adventures included in the package.

But two things really made our stay special. First off, though "eco-tourism" is the current rage in resort promotion, Hamanasi was conceived, built, and operates on a clear and consistent day-to-day practice of sustainability and protection/enhancement of the environment. It is not only the natural environment that they are committed to, but also the rich Belizean cultural environment. Rather than preachy and showy, the staff come across as passionate and truly dedicated.

The second thing that made our stay here so satisfying was the people. Hamanasi hires locally, and the staff, while being professional and well-trained, are also willing to engage in discussions of their culture and lifestyle. We had wonderful conversations and exchanges not only with our dive and land adventure guides, but also with dining room, housekeeping, groundskeeping, and management staff. Staff were of Garifuna, Mestizo, Mayan, and other local ethnicity and cultures, and were happy to share their knowledge and pride.

Prior to this, our first visit, I had some concerns about the resort that were not fully resolved through Hamanasi's website or online reviews, so I will comment briefly in case others have similar concerns:

-Sargasso. Yes it is present here as throughout the Caribbean, but is handled by Hamanasi groundskeeping in such a way that rendered it a non-issue during our stay. On a vacation like this, I do like to swim off the beach, and this was not at all hampered by the sargasso. The beach is beautiful, but not wide, and the ocean bottom is sand, with no snorkeling features. Protected by the barrier reef, there is no appreciable surf. One of my favorite beachfront activities was watching the pelicans dive for fish.

-Hamanasi as Dive Resort. Being a reasonably fit 70 year old with a reasonably fit 75 year old wife, I was a bit concerned that we would feel left on the sidelines at what is billed as a 5-star dive resort in one of the world's premier dive locations. The opposite is true. The snorkel trips were fabulous. Incredibly beautiful and healthy reefs, excellent visibility, abundant and diverse fauna. The guides were excellent, and were assigned to small groups of snorkelers based on ability. Though "elderly", I am an experienced and adventurous snorkeler, and when my guide realized that, he took me to appropriately challenging and beautiful locations. My wife, only recently having learned to swim, and a snorkel virgin, was assigned her own personal guide, who initially took her for a beach snorkel, and then had her snorkeling off the boat with the rest of us for the second dive of the day. Seriously, a personal snorkel guide on a package trip?! I spoke to many of our fellow guests who did tank dives, and they were also very satisfied with their trips.

Hamanasi makes it clear that each guest will be their focus from the moment of arrival to departure, and they pull it off in an elegant and sincere fashion.

Highly recommended.

Hamanasi is truly a beautiful place. It was one of the best vacations our family has ever had. The hotel is lovely, the food is fresh and delicious and the service cannot be beat. We did tours during the day and then relaxed by the pool and the beach. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I am very fussy about hotels and I couldn't find anything wrong with this one. Can't wait to go back!!!
