Disaster from the start, Booked two adjoining rooms for 4 Golfers. At check in were given two rooms 1 with King Bed with roll-out bed and 1 double separate floors. Not what we reserved but accepted. 20 minutes to get luggage. Afternoon tee times on White Course. Had lunch in Slamming Sammies, no hostess just seated ourselves, had to find waitress to place order. Checked in for golf then had to track down starter to tee off. Played golf and returned to room. Dinner and casino returned to room late no roll-out bed brought to room. Fortunately rooming with my son. Check out no compensation for inconvenience. Mgr on duty MIA. Enjoyed the golf but would never go back due to the service and accommodations.Save your Money.

Went to the Greenbrier for only the Bunker tour. It was interesting and tour guide (Adam) was very knowledgeable. I feel the bunker tour was a bit pricey. Draper's restaurant ice cream (coffee flavor) was quite delicious.

I've come here since i was little and it's so elegant and has so many options. The food is a amazing, there are many ballrooms, it's extremely cozy, there is a teatime at 4:15. The desserts are over the top, THIS PLACE MAKES EVERYONE FEEL SPECIAL NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE. my dad works here and it is just an AMAZING place. IT MAKES YOU FEEL ROYAL AND THE PLACE IS LIKE A CASTLE.

We just drove in after dark, did the valet parking, and then roamed the inside. Their Christmas decorations were out so we couldn't resist. On exploring we did find the nice bar and had two pretty great drinks. It is a really antique interesting place.

DID YOU KNOW. In a groundbreaking series of reports in 2010, Washington Post reporters Bill Arkin and Dana Priest revealed that 33 building complexes for top-secret intelligence work are under construction or have been built in Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area since September 2001.

Before that building boom, however, another secret bunker lay in wait for the apocalypse, behind a giant reinforced steel door. For 30 years, it was kept secret. Hidden in West Virginia's Greenbrier Resort was a massive bomb shelter stocked with supplies for members of Congress in case of an emergency.

This is an upscale resort. They expect gentlemen to wear collared shirts and a basic meal at Draper's will set you back $40.

Music and tea in the lobby...secret bunker for President and gov.discovered in the 90's. Formerly hidden on plain site...lots of history surrounding this resort...healing sulfur springs on the property brought many there on earlier times ...White Sulfur Springs and Lewisburg are nearby towns...
Resort is located in W.Va.

Bring the whole family, but bring your wallet and your wife's purse and you may want to sell your grandfather's antique clock..but it's worth every penny. This place screams 5 star. Treat yourself and see for yourself!

Very sad hotel. We needed a Covid getaway very badly but sadly this was not the place. History says Marriott tried to buy it and for the amount of work to bring it back to its grand glory, it would have taken Marriott's deep pockets to pull it off. Instead the the governor of West Virginia bought it and it will continue to decline. Bring your wallet - we don't mind a bit spending on really good food and accommodations but the rooms although good sized, were outdated, there was not even enough room to put your toiletries in the bathroom, we put them on one of the many mismatching tables in the room itself. We got a stay 2 get the third night free and the bed was so bad, we left after the 2nd night. Food wasn't bad but with breakfast for two at $70 and $80 for lunch meh, you are paying for supposed ambiance that just isn't there. $365.00 a night plus another $40 for resort fees and the free night they charged us a resort fee as well. Shameful really. The only good thing I can say is the staff were very friendly and helpful. P.S. Don't bother with the bunker tour. We expected to tour a bunker and all we actually saw was the electrical and water rooms and a room with items gathered from the original bunker.

Visited the Fallout shelter at the hotel with a tour group. Kate was our guide and was very informational and entertaining. Definitely an interesting tour. From what I saw of the hotel the hotel was very nice and well kept.

Fun and unique experience with delicious food, beautiful landscaping and interesting interior design that will take you back in time.

Had a delicious banana split sundae from Draper's Cafe. Lots of great deresrt options there.

Also dined at Prime 44 West. The filet mignon was delicious. Highly recommend the Lobster mashed potatoes!

Overall, a fun, unique experience with great food and scenery.

Asked at least 4 people in different areas of the resort about where I could watch a champion football game. Everyone suggested the sports bar, but said it was closed until 5. WRONG, it was a Saturday and the bar was open. Once in the bar, service was awful, slow and the food cold. An Irish coffee took more than 20 min to prepare and the tip was already included- which I would not have left. The bunker tour really only included one floor and was overpriced for the actual view and tour.

The Greenbrier is something different. Came here with my children to experience an NFL team practice the all time great New Orleans Saints, great experience. The staff, players, and guests were great and very welcoming.

I love, love, love the Greenbrier!

From their Beautiful shops to their many, many activities, this place has something to offer everyone!

Not to mention, the staff treats you like royalty!

Except our poor check in experience at the front dest, everything else else was wonderful!! Great attention to details, very clean, great room service, in one of the best historical resorts in the US!

They stopped using the fancy mattresses or at least decided to use them until they wear out! Part of the perk to playing ridiculously outrageous prices for literally everything was the phenomenal mattresses and pillows. Beds were horribly uncomfortable in the West Virginia Suite during our stay this past weekend. I guess the mystique of lavish spending has warned off, the Hampton in Lewisburg is more comfortable and we get free breakfast during our stay! The quality of service and products is not the same as it was ten to twelve years ago, I guess there is no pride in working at the Greenbrier anymore. We used five towels because there were five people in our party. The second day of our stay we were given two with no spare towels in the linen closet. Ten years ago, the hotel cleaning staff would have known that and if a guest needed more they would have brought additional towels within a few minutes of a request, not four hours.

We will never forget this vacation! What an amazing place to stay! Make sure you take the bunker tour AND the history tour! I highly recommend exploring the areas surrounding the hotel, too! Go visit Snowshoe, Winterplace, and some of the country roads. Beautiful part of the country!

Ok ...for the everyday traveler...$400.00 a night to lay your head on a pillow is crazy. Just to have your receipt say The Greenbrier on it. For the tourists just wanting to have a look...oh you can IF you park across the street & WALK 1 mile to the actual place. Now don't get me wrong but those of us with disabilities (chairs-braces-crutches-etc.) Should at least be able to get dropped off & then our cars moved or a shuttle called for us. The guard told us we would have to wait 2 hours till the next one arrived. What a shameful way to run a historical place that advertises itself on TV yet treats people like this. Shame.

Dorothy Draper is everything! Her designs are splendid throughout the entire hotel. Take the Segway tour to learn about how the locals live! Head up to the white cottages for some history, a free water bottle and to shop around for some homemade gifts. If you re a gambler, the casino has black jack tables with mins at $5 before I believe 7 PM. Tons of slots as well! Don t forget to stop by for Sweet or hot tea and for a showing of the Greenbrier waltz around 5 PM. Of course, you have to do the Bunker tour - free postcards to send to friends are given out at the end of the tour! Also the little seashell soaps are to die for!

I have been coming to the Greenbrier for 64 years....

I have been coming to the Greenbrier for 64 years. I was appalled at my recent visit at how much it has slipped. The attention to detail and taking care of the facility is terrible. For instance most of the furniture in the public areas and rooms needs to be recovered. The upholstery is badly worn, the seats in the chairs in the main dining room need to be redone. The seats have collapsed and you sit in a hole. ( I know this next one is nitpicking but it was attention to detail that always made the Greenbrier special) there are no combs in the locker rooms at the spa or indoor pool. How do you comb your hair after swimming or shower after a massage? I came with the family for New Years. On the Sunday before New Years with a full house there was no bar tender in the lobby bar at 11PM or DJ in the Casino!!! People were packed into both areas but no service.
Yet they charge a 6 percent historic preservation tax and the condition of the hotel has seriously deteriorated.
All of this unfortunately indicates a financially failing place. It s a tragedy. It was a wonderful place and in a lot of respects still is.

I think the Greenbrier resort is amazing place I'm an employee there and the experience I've had there is I've learned a lot about the Greenbrier and being a team player over all I can say I love my job and meeting the guest

The sheets, it s all about the sheets. They were stiff and scratchy and we both itched all night. The laundry needs to figure out how to make them soft and comfy. Other than that it was a great stay.

Love it!

Has electric car chargers but has not enforcement and allows any other cars to block. Do not drive an EV here assuming you can charge as the staff will do nothing to help you if fuel cars block the charging spots.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Service wasnt just professional but fantastic. World class in fact. And the food was to die for. Incredible experience and I can't wait to go back (when my wallet will let me!)

The Greenbrier is very posh and luxurious. While we were not staying overnight, we had family that were and we used their room to get ready for the wedding we were attending. The room was much bigger and nicer than most hotels I've stayed at, but the decor was so loud (very busy and bright prints on all of the wall paper) that I don't think I could have actually slept in the rooms. The room had 2 queen beds, two walk in closets, and a very large bathroom. Despite having a bathroom that was the size of a small hotel room itself, the tub/shower was still quite small. For such a large bathroom, I would have expected a larger tub and separate shower, but it was fine. The rest of the building was obviously designed to impress, with grand ballrooms, extremely ornate sitting areas, multiple bars and lounges, it reminded me quite a bit of being at the Biltmore. While there, we did take a tour of the bunker that is there, which would have been used to house Congress in the case of an attack on Washington DC during the Cold War. Being a history buff, this was my favorite part of our visit. The tour guide was an older gentleman who was extremely knowledgeable and able to answer almost all of the off the wall questions we guests came up with. It was also fascinating to see the difference between the decor of the bunker and the rest of the building. Lastly, we were at the Greenbrier to attend a wedding, and I have to say, they did a great job of creating a beautiful, all be it small, wedding. There were only about 20 guests and it was a beautiful outdoor ceremony under a solitary tree with some fountains behind us to give some ambiance. The wedding was beautiful and very well organized. Personally, the Greenbrier is not my kind of place; I'm more of a good ol' boy who likes things a little more simple. But the building itself was impressive and the experience only made me feel slightly out of place. You only have two options for parking, either you have to park at a lot across from the property and take a shuttle to the hotel or you must pay for valet parking. While I generally refuse to pay for valet parking, we opted for it because we had quite a few things to carry in for 3 people to get ready for a very posh wedding. We were given some hastle by the guard at the front gate because we were not staying at the hotel, apparently you have to park across the street if you are not an overnight guest, but finally he let us in. Then, when I gave our car over to the valet, we did not get a ticket for the car, which bothered me, but I rolled with it, trying not to be out of place. It was fine, we got the car back when we left with no problem, but it was odd. The few other times I have used valet parking, I have gotten a ticket for the car. All in all the experience was fine, but it is not a place I ever need to visit again. It was too fancy for my taste and I felt that my 6 figure income wasn't high enough to justify me presence there. It seemed like a hangout for the rich and famous, and just too much for me. But the bunker tour was very cool and informative and I was glad I got to experience that.

The rooms are pretty roomy, and comfortable and the place as a whole has a slightly antique feel to it. The price was maybe a little bit too expensive, but the ability to walk around the resort like a museum maybe makes up for that. During my stay, on of the patrolling guards was being a huge jerk, and didn't know the hours of operation of the gym he was supposed to be patrolling around. He still kicked me out, not sure why. If anyone from the Greenbrier staff is reading this, please talk to Christopher Sellin and teach him how to do his job.

It's nice if you like the finer things in life I guess. Not much there for a man. It's more of a bragging right for people who want to say they've been there. I wasn't really impressed, the building is beautiful, people working there were nice, but just not my thing.

Kind of sad about this visit. I'm here now, brought my daughter for her 21st birthday, her 1st visit, my 5th. In the past when we have come for a special occasion when we get to the room we are greeted with chocolates, flowers a split of champagne and a card....this time we had nothing. No more in room robes and slippers either. The afternoon tea was also a let down. No more piano and violin, just piano. When we got to the cookies, all the selections were gone- and we got there at 4:20. Drapers restaurant, one of my favorites used to have windows overlooking the grounds. It has been moved to the basement and now overlooks the casino...very sad. Just had dinner there, my fried green tomato sandwich was burned...didn't eat even a quarter of it. Should have sent it back, but was just too tired after the drive here, wanted to go back to the room. Also, due to some construction mis-hap, no tv in the rooms tonight. The whole hotel just seems tired and in need of some sprucing up. Elevators smell musty and bad, ceiling over indoor pool is in need of replacing and overall the interior just looks worn. So far the best part of the trip was our visit to the spa for our Swedish massages. The spa staff are always very friendly and attentive. Overall, I'm really let down, I wanted this to be special for my daughter.

We have our yearly meeting here in December, and it always nice to see the outstanding decorations and holiday charm that The Greenbrier puts in every year. They don t make hotels like this anymore. Anyone who hasn t had the opportunity to stay here should come out and get lost in this enormous hotel!
