No other place like it in the world. That perfect combination of old time southern charm with modern amenities. Staying at The Greenbrier is wonderful experience. There is so much to do you never have to leave the hotel grounds.
For those that value history and a remote rural location. the Greenbrier is a good destination. The rooms are comfortable but dated. My room smelled like it had recently been painted with oil paint. The decor is old south with large florals. The staff is very pleasant, but you get the feeling they know they are playing catch up to a changing world where this as a destination resort is seeing ever more deferred maintenance. It is also not easy to get to - at least 2 1/2 hours from any major airport. I would pick the Broadmoor at Colorado as the standard for a resort or even National Harbor in the National Capitol Region as better alternatives. Be prepared for the trains to wake you at night.
A huge disappointment. Sure, it wasn't their fault that our plane couldn't land so we missed the first day but they could have made an adjustment on our room as a good gesture. Very rigid that we "Didn't adhere to the 14-day cancellation" so alas, we had to pay for a hotel room while the one at the Greenbrier sat empty, but paid for. The decor I found to be very tired and out of date, the room had a newer bathroom but tired furnishings that were in desperate need of reupholstering. Reservationists have never been on the tours and therefore had no valuable information. Bunker tour was long and not worth the price. Underwhelmed. Tennis was completely empty and the office was not accustomed to setting up games, noting "Usually people set up their own games". Well, isn't this what they are there for? I don't know anyone to set up a game! The "50" minutes included time for ball pick-up. Food was mediocre at best at Sam Sneads. Drapers was pretty bad - Greasy and cold fried food, salad had canned artichokes, cubes of cheddar, wilted greens. Just shameful. When I told the waiter, he said "Sorry" and took my plate. No manager, no offer to make it better. Prime 44 was the only good meal we had. The afternoon tea is a cattle call for all the guests looking for a free pastry. Watching them crowd around a table and attack when a new tray arrived was sad to see. I've always wanted to check out the resort and was excited but underwhelmed and unimpressed. Because we arrived late (Very limited flight service) we asked for a 1pm check out instead of the normal 12:00n because the only other activity we could go on ended at 11:30 and they said no! I had to beg a manager. Really? You can't give me 30 minutes after I paid for an empty room? We found the resort to nickel and dime you for everything but when I wrote to the Controller about several complaints, he made no concessions. It was over $2,000 for 48 hours and I honestly wouldn't go again if it were free. A complete waste of money, which seems like all they want anyway.
Went for dinner, drinks and gambling for a birthday. We did have to wait longer than expected for drinks and dinner, but it was a holiday weekend and they were quite busy. Overall, very nice time!
Superb! We were passing through and stopped to have lunch at Drapers. The food and service were excellent. We had a club sandwich and burger, both delicious. Walked around the grounds and public areas. Did a little shopping. I would recommend a stop at the Greenbrier anytime you're in the area.
The place was beautiful, elegant, and amazingly well upkept. There is a variety of shops and activities to enjoy while being here. Top notch quality service.
Beautiful! Gracious! So much to do. Very comfortable beds. The deluxe room was lovely. Great amenities! Situated in a beautiful area with lots to do nearby in addition to all which is available on the property.
Very big, very sedate old hotel. But when you go inside, the color scheme is crazy. All colors are fully saturated, totally bright and clash with each other. Patterns vie for your attention. Wallpapers match the furniture. Rugs vibrate off the floor. It's a carnival of color and patterns.
Took a friend for outpatient procedure at the greenbrier clinic. Service quick. Staff professional. Clinic immaculate. They were even able to perform his covid test prior to procedure. Everybody in this place had a mask on. Highly impressed.
From driving in you know you are about to embark on an amazing experience! It is elegant, fun, and relaxing. There is a dress code. However, it was not a bother whatsoever. The staff is courteous and friendly. The casino was fun . Pretty good options. Food was great . I loved the feel of drappers restaurant; Upscale and vintage. The outdoor endless pool was so much fun. Definitely family friendly. Was there on a business trip but would visit again.
Service was excellent, beginning with the shuttle drivers all the way through the staff! The place was impeccable. The food was very good, but a little expensive. Definitely worth the experience though.
We were pleasantly surprised with our visit. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We were treated like royalty every minute of the stay. We can't wait to return.
Very disappointed in the facilities. Dusty artificial flower arrangements, dirty lounge furniture, mold in shower, pool sides brown from non cleaning. Service in restaurants slow. I ordered a bourbon and water and got Irish whiskey waved over the glass of water. With that or they re watering the booze. An article of someone else s clothing came with one of the beds in our room. The wood floor in the room was extremely scratched.
Best resort ever. The food and shopping are amazing and it has some of the best golf in the world. The infinity pool is a must. The rich tradition and history are amazing as well. I suggest the tour of the cold war bunker too.
We loved our stay at the Greenbrier. They set the standard for service in all areas. We golfed, we shopped and we ate but most of all,we enjoyed spending our 45th wedding anniversary there.
We stayed at this hotel and honestly we've stayed at economical hotels that have better service than this resort. To begin, the self parking was miles away from the entrance. The restaurants close early so we ordered room service. Room service told us that the order would be ready in 1.5 hours. We received the cold, stale food 3.5 hours later. The suite, which was not in the hotel but in a separate cottage, was filthy! The beds were awful; you'd sink to the center of the bed. We went to the concierge to get a bunker tour and they were extremely rude and just told us it was sold out. They have other activities but they are prohibitively expensive. The customer service is atrocious. We went to speak to the hotel manager about our issues and he listened to our complaints but didn't do anything about it. When you play close to $600/night, you expect a certain level of quality and service of which we received neither. Everything in the resort include a 6.5% preservation fee. I'm not sure what this fee is being used for but the buildings, including our suite, clearly show signs of deterioration. Save your money and stay at a different resort!
This is a resort working very hard to keep the flavor and style of the golden age. Staff is great. Prime 44 was great. JJs was fair. Food offered at the conference fair. Parking was not readily available unless you use valet. Often felt like I was crashing other groups parties. Housekeeping was Good, but my mattress was horrible. Sagged, and it made my back hurt. Considered sleeping on the floor the last night.
Fancy, historic place, with really nice folks. But the place nickels and dimes you at every turn. Beware of the obscure and hidden surcharges for every purchase. Quite a racket. What an unnecessary shame! We won't be back.
The Whitespring is a beautiful hotel in the middle of the WV mountains, it's an amazing place to buy and sell, crafting needs and even training for a bit. Take in the nature but beware of the golf course ghouls they are a bit cranky! And always have your PA ready in case of an incoming nuke, things get a bit hectic to say the least. Overall a great place to be all year round.
Location is great just a few miles off of Interstate I-64. I don't eat at The Greenbrier very often my friend got 2 free breakfast vouchers and we went and had breakfast for free at the Greenbrier in the main dining hall it was a very good experience the food was very good and the service was excellent
Ate at Drapers and it was phenomenal as always. The Maryland Crab Cake is out of this world. The Nachos are wonderful as well. The peach tea has excellent flavor!
The Greenbrier known as a five star resort because of the charm ,southern decor and all the lavish amenities such as unique shops, ice cream parlors, the bowling alley ,the movie theater , many diverse restaurants, the homemade candy store,The World Known Golf Courses , The Tennis Courts , Horse back Riding , The Casino ,The Gone With The Wind Feel in the Main Dining Room ... (which i had a succulent lobster dinner that felt like i was eating it fresh from the waters of Maine what a luscious surprise for my taste buds... )( and there so many other tantalizing choices also on the menu) The staff made you feel that you were the most important person there,i felt like i was a princess during my three day stay ,sleeping on a-mattress that felt like a cloud and my cover was a down filled comforter ..oh I didn t want to leave my heavenly bed. There is so much more to say but come experience this luxury resort for yourself only problem you might have is ... you won t want to leave.
Spent a week at The Greenbriar. Cabin was lovely with 3 BR /3 bath. Porch overlooked the resort and was perfect place for cocktails. Henry at the lobby bar is a gem. Excellent, creative drinks served with flair and perfect balance. Fun add-on activities for yound adults included off-road adventures, spas and white water rafting. Highly recommend this beautiful resort.
We had so much fun at the Greenbrier last weekend. Fantastic breakfast buffet. Great dinners at Prime 44 and the main dinning room. Although the weather was cold and rainy, Mountaineering was a blast. All four of us stuck the Hatchet both over hand and under hand. The glass blowing demonstration is a must. Amazing talent. Oh, and let's not forget the five star spa. My face is still glowing.
Feels like you are transported in time. The place is very tranquil and posh. Some design choices are not my taste, but " degustibus non disputandum". Looks little deserted with out to many ppl, and kinda sad. Nevertheless the attention to detail and staff are flawless.
The Greenbrier is an historical treasure. Employees are eager to serve and please (like Frank Mosely who has worked at the Resort for 61 years.) Enjoy the grounds, a historical tour with Bob Conte, the engaging decor of the hotel, pools and so much more (like aPGA golf course!)
I visited The Greenbrier during a roadtrip with some friends. We knew a little about the hotel and decide to stop and explore. The visuals around the hotel are interesting. The history was pretty fun to learn about. The tour is a must if you are in the area and have some time to kill.
