Reception is very nice, and everyone is beyond polite. The relaxation room is directly off the main reception area, so you can still hear people outside, and there's quite a bit of traffic from the locker rooms to the various spa areas. In other "five star" facilities, the relaxation area is rather secluded so you can enjoy the room without much noise.
After a brief stint sipping on some water and flipping through a magazine, I was summoned for a sulphur soak. I'm not sure what the benefits are, but it was fine. When you're in White Sulphur Springs, you might as well bathe in water from a sulphur spring.
Immediately following the soak, I was led to a shower stall featuring numerous shower heads for an immersive spray-down. I enjoyed this until the water went deadly cold at which point I walked out and waited for my spa guy to come back. After I commented on the cold, he asked me to stand back in the shower stall. I assumed perhaps he'd be adjusting the temperature. I was truly mistaken.
If you've ever had someone spray you with a garden hose set to "stream", you know that beat-down feeling it has on your skin. Evidently they call this a "Swiss Shower and Scotch Spray", and it's not so much a spray as it is a blasting. The spa attendant generously suggests you cover your wobbly bits and proceeds to maneuver several levers on a console that looks straight out of a vintage Bond film. Then, before you know what's happening, he's steering two nozzles at you, pelting you with warm water in the tenderest of places. This aqua assault lasts for a few minutes, and covers front, side, and back.
After learning how a patio feels after a pressure wash, I was led to a stall to dry off and proceed to the massage portion, which is your typical Swedish massage. Nothing of note here, just a typical massage.
Post-massage, you can choose to use the steam room and/or the sauna. Both are large and quite nice. Numerous showers are available and well-stocked for the post-spa wrap-up.
For grooming needs, there are a pair of sinks directly next to the urinals in the bathroom. I found the placement a bit off-putting, and though I enjoyed the time I had to shave and clean up, hearing everyone's pee and flush was a little too much like home for me.
Overall, the spa experience here is nice but not a good value when compared to experiences at other nationally-known resorts offering similar amenities. Had I known what I was in for with the Scotch spray business, I'd have probably skipped it. Which is not to say I thought I'd be served scotch while showering, but rather I felt a bit like a demonstrator in 1960s Chicago, voluntarily taking a water cannon to the ass. I just don't think it added much to the experience. The older gentleman in the adjoining stall might disagree, as I believe I heard him say "let me have it!" quite enthusiastically.

Pretty cool, but a bit on the pricier side and the tour group was too large. Strange they wouldn't let you take a camera, but would let you go back and take pics after the tour of the public rooms? Beautiful hotel though. I'd stay there.

A beautiful, huge resort. The decor is from an elegant bygone era and is wonderful to see . There is lots of history to absorb, and lots activities to enjoy. The spa services are nice although the spa facilities are not as updated as you might like. All of the staff is delightful. Lots family activities and lots of room to spread out. The bunker tour is very interesting.

Honestly can not wait to go back. To be thrown back to the charm and grace of days gone by was a real treat. The opulent wall and flooring decor and all of its' grander may be too dated for some, but it was really creates a great experience. Something new and colorful to see every corner you turn.
Really enjoyed cocktails in the many seating areas around the main bar, whether patio, couch or intimate tables throughout the adjoining spaces. The nightly champagne toast and waltz is a special little treat as well!
We did not try all of the on property dining, was not a fan of the breakfast either seated or room service, however we did enjoy Jerry West's Steakhouse twice and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
I definitely advise looking into which activities there are to take advantage of in advance and reserve them so you don't miss out. Also, book dining in advance as that seems to book up very quickly.
Definitely worth the trip!

Amazing!! So much to do in and around one stunning resort with outstanding service by loving folks... Do not miss 44West for best steaks and lobster mashed potatoes or the breakfast buffet. Have the most fun in the lively casino...gambling on sports or games, dancing with the dj or just spending time at the penny slots. You will want to come back, promise...so much to do.

I ve been all over the Eastern United States. From Miami Florida all the way to northern Maine. I ve stayed in several resorts, hotels, motels, you name it. The Greenbrier is one I have looked forward to staying at again in the future. West Virginia is the East Coasts best kept secret. I m from rural Sweden and rural West Virginia is such a breath of fresh air. The Greenbrier is icing on a delicious cake.

Everything about this place was seriously awesome.
I can t wait to go back.
I took my wife here for 1 night. It was not long enough. I was there for a business speaking engagement. I wish I booked 2+ nights. I just did not get to experience the place long enough.
If there was a negative part, it was the second floor area bar. They had terrible cocktails. The Moscow Mule I was served was not even close. You d expect that a bartender would know how to serve up a good cocktail at a 5-star resort. That drink and my wife s half a glass of wine was almost $40.
Besides that...all positive memories!!! The staff was the best!

The grounds and views are amazing, but the hotel itself needs a lot of updating. From worn out carpet (our room floor was covered with stains) and wallpaper to furniture and decor, it feels like you re in a time capsule that hasn t been cared for. Also, the food and service was very good but not five star. Do yourself a favor and spend the same or similar money at a Four Seasons or a Ritz.

Great resort , and what makes it so special are the employees! Everyone was so nice , always .
The spa was okay , not the best but everyone was nice . Marcia was good and has been there 23 years . My husband golfed and loved it !
We ate in the formal dinning room the first night , the Italian Foram the next night ( which was great ) and the last night we went back and got pizzza and salads to eat on our porch .
Sandwiches at the cafe and tree top were awesome! We stayed in the cottages which I highly recommend!
Things I would have liked , adult pool time . It was packed and lots of children . Robes and more glasses at the cottages. And at the spa because I spent the day there , a lite lunch or nuts . They only had apples, oranges and raisins.
Employees were so wonderful!

Wonderful stay at the Greenbrier last weekend. We stayed 4 nights, had a bump in the road with the water heater in our cottage that Glen and Allie fixed and worked hard to still give us that 5 star experience. Both places we stayed were beautiful and kept up to date (Copeland 35 (a favorite) and Valley View Estate). Food was amazing- I recommend Prime 44 West because of it's amazing service and delicious food. The server we had on 12/15 was amazing (although I am sad I didn't catch her name) and worked with my allergy and one of our party was a vegan. Will stay here again.

Our waitress in the main dining area- Cheryl, was wonderful.,Can not say enough good things about this beautiful place. We have been here 4 times before, all for anniversaries, & this was the best. Hotel is nice, but far from awesome. Did not surprised me. However the bunker tour saved my visit there. It is a bit expensive in my opinion, but the fact that they don't charge day visitors inside the hotel, it turned not so expensive.

This hotel is amazing, I grew up in WV and always wanted to visit the bunkers under the Greenbrier. On a trip thru WV my family and I stayed one night at the hotel, its wonderful just walking thru the hotel and seeing the history behind it. The amount of time and work it must take to maintain the hotel and grounds has to be astronomical. Everything you need during your stay can be provided on the hotel property, meals, movies, exercise, golf, horseback riding, music cabarets and much more. The cost for all this luxury is steep but worth it for a unforgettable family vacation.

The Greenbriar is amazing, the staff was excellent and it is extremely clean. They have several activities to do while there. In the lower levels there is a casino, several places to shop and a few places to eat.
Among the activities is the Bunker tour, it's interesting to see what they show you, but they don't actually show you the complete bunker, only the main floor and it still has very high security for a place that is not to be in use anymore, hmmm.
We will be visiting again as we were not able to do all that we had intended and wanted to.

We came down for a day enjoying Greenbrier and we were NOT disappointed. The interior at first glance can seem outdated, but was completed by the Dorothy Draper and serves as an homage to the elegance of her era. The fact that everything remains as Princess Grace saw it on her visit was quite special to me. Definitely a great place to stop for an hour, a day, or a week! It needs to be on your bucket list if it isn t already.

We were overnight guests in a cottage room. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed. The king sized bed was very comfortable. Dinner in the main dining room was as expected; a bit old-fashioned, excellent service and decent food. The highlight of our evening was the Casino. Only open to guests, the Casino was full service with every from baccarat to craps. An excellent adventure and we will definitely be repeat guests!

I absolutely love going to The Greenbrier...I absolutely love the decor and love strolling around the grounds and walking through the hotel. I ve stayed there a few times and have enjoyed every room we ve had. My children and myself always enjoy it there. The customer service is great and staff is very friendly...and oh my; did I mention how I love the decor. I m not saying decorate your house like it but why not enjoy the homage of design that exists at The Greenbrier. I love how it s in the ballrooms through the halls and even in the rooms. Lastly I love the Casino; so glad this was added through the years. My only regret is that I can t get back there more often.

Their rich tradition of hospitality continues to impress! The staff excels at letting you relax and enjoy time with your family.
Restaurants are fantastic, they're all consistent in their quality. They're all different enough you don't get bored over a longer stay.
The shops are fun and selection appeals to all members of family.
Casino is smaller but lots of fun.
The history of the place makes it exciting but also unique. I like the bunker tour, hard to believe.

The grounds are very beautiful and the staff is very nice, but I don't like the dorothy draper design. Also, the rooms are very dated. It's extremely frustrating that they charge and extra historical fee when you purchase anything at the hotel. This seems very unnecessary since they already have very high prices for everything.

Seriously, it's the Greenbrier. How could it be rates fewer than five stars? Such a beautiful, historical spot. Dinner in the main restaurant was delicious, wandering the ballroom and tea rooms, lounges, halls and so on was good for hours of casual, relaxing entertainment. Our room was ultra comfortable and if we're ever rich enough we'll come for more than a day.
