Spent a few days at the resort for a work event. The Greenbrier's room management software was down for the duration so it was a headache for some folks but the staff went above and beyond to make amends. Catered food was great, staff was very helpful, and facility was clean and full of charm. I look forward to returning for a personal visit.

I had such a nice time here. We visited for the day, had a glass of wine, walked around and enjoyed the Christmas decorations, walked through the church, and saw the beautiful Christmas lights! I really want to go on the bunker tour, but they have them in the morning and we live a couple hours away.

We've been coming here for years and always have a good time. Quality and service is top notch and I'd recommend to anyone! Not easy to get to and its pricey, but we have always found it worth it. It's a bit like stepping back in time, and the whole resort has a dress code which is awesome. We'll definitely be back!!

Absolutely marvelous place. I could stay may more times which, for my wife and I, would be very abnormal. You need to take in the beauty of the pool and look over the infinity edge whilst taking in the great afternoon sun. I would also imagine you would want to golf if you do so. And tennis looks fantastic, has a working net- etc. :) But the absolute must would be to take the Bunker tour. Our hostess/guide was a true professional, explaining everything down to small details. We will be back for a longer stay eventually. Thank You, Greenbriar.

OPULENT! Truly 5 Stars! Neither words, nor pictures do it justice! The resort is amazing and the service is second to none! Be sure to take a tour of the historic bomb shelter and gain an even greater appreciation for our country's history. You will need about 2 or 3 hours for the tour but it will be worth every minute.

The Greenbrier sent out an email promoting the opening of their pool last weekend. They didn t lay out the fact that they were limiting the pool to just 200 people so the 200 people were lined up outside the pool at 10 AM. They never made anyone leave so the vast majority of guests were blocked from entry by having to be on waiting lists.

I drove out of my way from SC to take my kids to the Greenbrier. If I would have known they were going to do it like this I would not have gone to the resort.

The casino also was only sitting two people to a table like blackjack and roulette. Only have the tables were even being used so like the pool there wasn t a way to gamble.

My previous two visits weren t any better. There are always customer service issues. If you complain they listen and then don t do anything about it. It s to bad because it s a beautiful resort and the food is spectacular.

I will never go back. It s to expensive a hotel to only get five star service in certain area s. I rate the service as three stars out of five which for me is unacceptable at an expensive hotel.

Buyer beware! There are plenty of establishments that appreciate their clients way more than the Greenbrier.

Great workers but the upkeep of this place is very poor other than the landscaping. Air conditioning is a constant problem and most rooms have plumbing issues and don't get me start on the constant cockroach issues

The white exterior is jaw dropping when you first arrive. Kids will like this hotel for its vastness and will not mind the lavish decor. The awesome amenities include an ice skating rink, movie theater, glamorous indoor pool, chocolatier, and falconry barn. Be sure to tour the decommissioned Cold War bunker and examine the blast-resistant door. One senior whispered to me that it's still ready to go. The Greenbrier is simply enormous. Try to ride the train to and from the site. Altogether, it has excellent service and provides unlimited family fun.

I felt like I was entering another world.... the entrance is so majestic and beautiful. Surrounded by beautiful green mountains, the drive from the airport was silent... everyone took in the beautiful scenery. Beautiful rolling hills as far as the eye can see....

The maid welcomed me by name as I passed her in the hall, returning the second year. Unbelievable service everywhere in the hotel.

They grow their own fresh fruit and vegetables, the food is so tasty! I loved the blackberries and strawberries.

If you stay here, go on the Greenbrier Ghost tour and also a historical tour of the hotel, the history is wonderful.

Also make sure you take the secret underground bunker tour, that was absolutely amazing to see. It boggled my mind to think about how they built it in plain sight in 1958-1960 when they built the west wing... and how they kept it in a constant state of readiness for 1800 people! Prescriptions, fresh food, clothing, etc. supplies for a year. The administrative overhead on this must have been mind boggling. They have the original bunk beds, the dentist office, crematorium, dining hall, and last but not least - the huge hidden doorway that is 24" thick, filled with cement so it can withstand a nuclear blast. VERY interesting stuff!

Plenty of interesting things to do... golf, skeet shooting, fly fishing, horse and carriage, horse riding, train station tour, gift shops, the President's Cottage, it goes on and on. You literally could shop all day and not see everything!

The spa and indoor pool is so relaxing!

Highly recommend!!

I don t normally give reviews, but I feel one is warranted in this case. The experience at the gate was unimpressive - no smile or greeting. The front desk was fine. No clear direction as to how to get luggage to your room. Housekeeping was fine. The room was fine. The bunker tour was great. Dinner in the Main Dining Room was disappointing. The Concierge asked if we were celebrating any special occasion. My husband informed him that we were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. While the concierge was very friendly and congratulatory, there was no mention or recognition of the occasion during or after the meal. When checking out I was asked about my stay. I quickly recounted my experience and was told if I come back, and she hoped I would, to tell them in advance and there would be something waiting in the room. Considering we just paid over $900 for 2 nights in a standard room with a double bed, 2 meals and the bunker tour, I don t think we ll be returning. If they had done something, anything, to try and make it right before we left, I would have a different attitude. In closing, not a 5 star experience.

Amazing! Historic, massive, beautiful at Spring and for Easter. The decor is tacky, BOLD, colorful but at the same time awesome and has it's place here & adds to the fun. I love the afternoon tea & grounds. The rooms and staff were equally welcoming. Must see the underground bunkers. We loved it here.

The Greenbrier Hotel & Resort is a wonderful place to visit with your partner or family. They have so many great things to do and see for ALL ages. The hotel property itself is just breathtaking. I fell in love with my husband all over again!!

My girlfriend's and I go every year to celebrate Christmas lunch together. Sometimes before Christmas and sometimes after Christmas. We made it before this year and had a marvelous time at Drapers eating lunch and then just shopping around. We always must do tea time. It is such a wonderful time with friends. Nice escape to enjoy the day even if we are locals. Love the time we spend there together. I definitely recommend for anyone near & far to experience a little southern hospitality.

I felt like I was in a different world. I didn't want to leave. But my pocket book needed to. Expensive but worth it. The room, the food, the golf...everything was top notch and made me feel like I was living in another time..way back

Disappointing. Lovely place in need of repair. Very nice staff. Cuisine was so so, shared kitchen so you'll see the same items in each individual restaurant. Ridiculous fees and taxes will makea simple breakfast room service for two almost $100.00. Additional activities for a significant fee, even a carriage ride. Ritz Carlton cost for a lesser quality experience.

The Greenbrier Resort is overpriced, overrated and the people are all about themselves. I can think of 10 other places I would rather be with my family or friends. Don't believe the hype from the Forbes Magazine "Dead Beat Governor" Jim Justice.... It's all just a racket and Jim benefits the most....

Visited during our 25th Anniversary Weekend and were duly impressed with the beuaty of the hotel and the hospitality of the staff. We met Bellmen who have been there over 45 years. The Breakfast/Brunch Buffet should be enjoyed by everyone. $$

The location is a bit out if the way from any direction, but the resort itself is very gorgeous. Driving up, the atmosphere hits you immediately. One of the activities we did was the Reel Escape Room, which I recommend for all escape room enthusiasts. It does bot rely heavily on black light and is one of the better ones, if not the best, I have solved. The decorations are wonderful. Food is mildly pricey.

We went to The Greenbrier to tour the bunker and was very impressed with the beautiful and immaculate grounds and the staff was very attentive! Greeted us warmly as you enter and greeted us again as we were leaving. Lots of history and would love to come again to experience a few nights in one of their prestigious rooms! The tour was great! I'd recommend it!

You feel like you are stepping back in time when you walk in here. Food is excellent and the rooms are spotless. See the actual chandelier from the film, Gone With the Wind. This resort has everything you could possibly want and then some.

We had an absolutely incredible visit at The Greenbrier. The staff was professional, courteous and and went out of their way to make our time special. The room was huge, and we loved the fireplace. The restaurants were phenomenal. We truly loved the carriage ride, the bunker tour and the falconry. It was the perfect honeymoon.

What's to say, it's THE Greenbrier! Great facility, great amenities, great people, great food and eating pizza poolside, watching the grandkids swim while it snows out side is what it's about. Want to slow down, eat well and be treated royally, visit the Greenbrier.

Very nice with lots of activities such as mountaineering, shooting clays, bunker tours, afternoon tea and the casino. It is very expensive however and the decor is very retro but nice in it's own way.

Overall we had a very positive experience at the Greenbrier and I would suggest staying here and experiencing it. The grounds are very well kept, however the hotel itself needs some touch up. It is expected to be outdated, but it's not clean as it should be. The facade of the building is a little dirty and so is the interior, so that could be addressed easily. Staff is very accommodating and helpful. The food is overall really good but a little overpriced which is expected. Be prepared to pay for everything on top of the nightly rates such as resort fee and historical fund fee. The tips are already included in every bill and also historical fund fee for everything you purchase. There are a lot of activities, but you have to pay for almost all of them and they are very pricey, such as fishing. I'd recommend bringing your own rods and going outside of the resort to fishing some of the streams there. I'd highly recommend the bunker tour as the tour guides are very knowledgeable and you will be pleasantly surprised at this historical part of the hotel. We stayed 4 nights and I feel like we could have stayed a little shorter as we ran out of things to do so it got boring. We did venture out to Lewisburg and got to tour the distillery and the brewery that is local.

Great service. Great!! Nice rooms, love the provided bathrobe! The room is a bit dusty and the bed sheets have holes. The cleaning staff can be seen texting and huddled together talking while cleaning rooms. Not a discredit to the service, but from an employer/ professional perspective... I really wish the pool area had a hot tub for relaxation, but possibly the lack of it is to encourage you to use/pay for the spa? The pool is heated so at least swimming is comfortable. The internet/ wifi connection in our wing has been awful! If you need this, consider your own hotspot. Numerous calls inquiring about it did not help the problem. Food is very expensive here, but it is a high priced resort so no surprise. If this is a problem, plan on driving 15 minutes for food or pack. You will need to request a refrigerator/ microwave. (May be an additional fee.) Valet parking is the way to go since the hotel lacks a designated parking lot. You may have to walk up to a half mile if planning on parking yourself. Streets are not well lit, some areas have no sidewalks so be cautious if parking at night. If the shuttle happens to pass by, it will kindly pick you up on your trek. The valet charges a nightly fee, so weigh the cost/ benefits. How often do you plan to leave? (Translation: how often do you plan to make the long hike to your vehicle?) Everything you can possibly want is right here-if cost is no problem. Overall a good experience, but a couple of moderate disappointments.

My rating was originally 1 star, but I changed it to two because the hotel staff tried to make it right by me.

The place is old and smells bad. The lady who initially checked me in was not friendly and put in me in a room that reeked of cigarettes. They changed my room but my new room has bugs in it. The towels are threadbare. The elevators smell terrible and every thing looks dirty and cheap, including the carpet, the turquoise wall paper in the lower lobby, the purple tacky lights illuminating the front, The closet in the room smelled like curry and mold. The Christmas tree is pink and blue (yuck). The room is $400 per night. For that money I expected everything to be spic and span and it is definitely not. I have read other reviews and the manager answers with the same response every time. I plan to post pictures with the bugs and filth as soon as my phone charges. (YUCK). You can tell that at one time this was a nice hotel but not anymore. Renovations? Really? Where? We will see how the rest of the holiday goes. So far...ZERO.

Towels were smelly old and grayish white. I asked for clean bleached towels. the towels that were sent up were smelly grayish white and old, so I had to use my t-shirt as a towel.

The next morning I called down for towels and 2 gentlemen arrived at my door (I was not informed that they were coming) with my towels. They did not introduce themselves by name or title. I showed them the problems with the room. One man was gracious and apologetic. The other man asked me how many rooms I had been in "so far." I asked why it was relevant. He then asked me to to inspect the towels they had brought for me. The first towel was stained with an orange-reddish substance. The second towel had some old dark stains and the last towel was good. I took the second and last towels.

Later they upgraded my room to a larger room on the fifth floor. The guy who helped me move, Tim, was very polite and helpful. I honestly think the hotel felt bad that i got no sleep and really want to help me. The new room was much better; however, I am very itchy in the new room, rust came out of the spigot in the shower, the shower curtain was dirty at the lower edges (at least not with blood) and the bed had to be remade because there were crumbs in it. The crumbs were not in the bed when i originally looked at the room. For this reason i still feel uncomfortable sleeping in the bed, and am staying awake again for a second night. I will nap in front of the fire tomorrow. There are many dogs on this new floor. Housekeeping here is sorely lacking. They do not even put bug and dust protective complete covers on the mattresses and box springs.

So far the activities have been average. Everything seems unorganized. The bar is great and the hot buttered rum is awesome. The casino is typical. The grounds are great. The restaurants are good, but the salad was not, it was all ends and no leaves. They gave us the dregs for our caeser salad. However, the bananas foster was good. Order steak here, they do steak really well here. The buffet was impressive overall.

The VP of Hospitality contacted me and graciously offered to comp the first night which I accepted. My room was cleaned today and it feels better in here. I do not think any of the rooms that I had been in were actually newly cleaned. It does make a big big difference. So this was a positive two things,

Another truly positive thing is the concierge department, specifically Tim Nicely. he treats everyone like a VIP, and always has something nice to say to make you feel good!!

Trap shooting was the highlight of my trip here. I would do this activity over and over if I could. Joe was our instructor and was awesome.

The Greenbrier crew really felt bad and tried to make my stay more pleasant, which I appreciate. Glad to have had the opportunity visit once. My advice to future travelers is to book early AND when making the reservation, ask for a renovated room.

This place is phenomenal. The staff is so friendly and will go out of their way to help you. The grounds are gorgeous and there is more to fo than you have time for. We rented a Polaris slingshot, and we are so happy that we did. They set us off on the coolest winding mountain road, it was a great memory. I also played the old white course, it played just as perfect as you would expect.
