The automated robot security was very good and there was turrets everywhere in the main resort but when they sometimes got a bit noisy but when I tried to go to the gold club to play golf the place was full of ghouls and even on the green I got chased by them, would give 5 stars if there was security everywhere and less noisy and ghouls but the biggest downside was people kept nuking the place and we were denied access to the bunker, ridiculous.

What can u say .. its the Greenbrier, America's Resort. Service fantastic, food was .. ok, pretty much. I'd go elsewhere for Iralian, the Forno isnt up to Olive Garden standards. Main dining room very elegant. We trailered our m'cycles, not allowed on the grounds, scares the horses.
Its expensive .. over $400 a night for rooms. They hit u with a Historical Preservation fee and a Resort fee plus 2, 3 state taxes...over $100 a day. Twenty pct gratuitity added to everything.
We enjoyed our stay, sort of a 'bucket list' adventure.
It's very impressive.

Everything here is superb! Our lunch there was wonderful. The only thing I did not like was the restaurant taking a percentage of the bill for restoration purposes without notifying us.

We had a very nice Christmas at the Greenbrier. The amenities are excellent, although I am surprised they do not have a hot tub in the pool area or spa. The sporting clays course is always fun. I got a hair cut, they did a nice job, and I felt the price was reasonable. I wish more amenities were included with the stay like perhaps bowling, wine tasting, iceskating, or the bunker tour, but we did enjoy the ballroom dancing class and afternoon tea times that were offered.

My family has been coming here for years- we always have a great time. The interior decor and all of the rooms are fun to look and and explore. The bunker tour is fascinating. The food is delicious and rooms are nice too. Recommended luxury resort!

Fun. Decor is 'interesting '. Staff so nice. Burgers at Drapers DELICIOUS! Spa was great. You must take the bunker tour. See the archives slideshow in the theater, and go on the walking tour of the place. Our breakfast for our conference was excellent. I did not eat in the dining room but it is beautiful in there. You must dress for dinner in the dining room, no exceptions. Will do that next time. Alot to see & do. Did the tours but that's all I had time for. Hope to get back again. Note that they charge 6% tax, 6.6% historic preservation fee AND 20% gratuity to each meal and services. Sheesh.

The rooms are old and outdated and smell like cat pee! We are with a large group and most of the group has the same complaint. Not what I would expect for $550/night. When we called and complained, they sent a housekeeper with a spray bottle of air freshener. The grounds are cool and historic, but I cant believe how bad the amenities are! Sleep outside the resort if you can!

While the grounds are gorgeous and the decor utterly opulent, I can't help be but severely disappointed with the tragically ahistorical narrative that the hotel allows their tour guides to spew on the Bunker Tour. While tour guides appear incredibly knowledgeable, they lack any sort of historical understanding that allows the Bunker to be placed in any meaningful historical context. The lack of historical understanding regarding the Cold War is overly simplistic and just downright wrong. There is a real opportunity (assuming the stats the tour guide cited are true) to teach the public about the Cold War, nuclear fear, and its larger impact in American society. If the staff are not capable of doing so, then they should simply show the Bunker for what it was, a fallout shelter, without any attempt at historical interpretation. Pur tour guide said that as of today (Nov 2) so far they had seen 47,000 people through the Bunker Tour. That's 47,000 people who are being told an overly simplistic Cold War narrative that ignores how complicated the whole era was.
1. It was more than an ideological war. The relationship between the Soviet Union and the US was incredibly complex. While they were allies during WWII, they weren't "staunch" allies as the film on the tour would have guests believe. The relationship even during WWII was tenuous and rife with friction which ultimately led to the postwar tensions that set us down the path of the Cold War.
2. I asked on my tour "What was in plan for the people who weren't a part of the legislative branch? The regular folks?" My guide's response was appalling and just wrong. She said it was never a concern that White Sulphur Springs was going to be bombed, so there was nothing in place and due to prevailing winds, they'd be fine.
First, I didn't ask if the region was a target, I asked for defense measures for civilians. Second, if it was never a concern, then why did the govt dump 14 million dollars into the Bunker with 60,000 lbs blast doors? Third, simply because it didn't happen doesn't mean that people weren't afraid it would happen. Seriously, look into civil defense. It's that simple. Fourth, there were potential targets to the West that were far more likely to be bombed than the Capitol. Industrial centers are more likely targets than obvious centers of govt. Thus making the prevailing windo argument pointless and had the bomb been dropped on industry to the West, radioactive fallout would have covered the civilian population.
I cannot stress enough, just because something didn't happen doesn't mean they didn't think it would. West Virginia spent a lot of time updating their civilian defense plans for the state because there was a legitimate fear.
3. Bottom line, your guide was clueless about where the Greenbrier fit into the historical context of the Cold War.
4. In terms of facilities, Drapers was also disappointing. We sat down to a table with dirty glasses which our server attempted to fill (there was literally lipstick on one of the glasses). Cutlery was dirty. My Reuben was soggy and the deviled eggs had actually hardened and dried out. For what I paid, food and service should be impeccable.

We stayed at the Greenbrier on January 1st and 2nd and will definitely be returning. I want to bring our kids next year for Christmas. It was decorated beautifully. The service was outstanding as always and the entertainment was an amazing group of young men from Virginia Tech University signing accapella. It was a magical trip with my husband and we both look forward to next year with our children.

Staying at a rental house. It is very suitable for groups. The facility has many activities although quite expensive for the experiences. There is not much to do if you have a baby with you other than go to the pool.

Step back in time and luxuriate in one of America's largest and oldest historic resort hotels. The famous Greenbrier has over 700 rooms and suites, all tastefully furnished with quality furniture and art works, comfortable beds and bathrooms. This place reeks of taste, money and Old World Charm.

Although I have never stayed in a room overnight, I have visited several times and enjoyed a carefully prepared meal in one of the restaurants.

Most of the grand rooms have very tall ceilings, chandeliers, plush carpets, fireplaces, sofas and comfortable chairs, portraits and paintings, including people such as George Washington and Princess Grace of Monaco. Even the Duke and Duchess of Windsor have been guests at The Greenbrier and danced the night away in the Grand Ballroom.

The Greenbrier is set among several thousand acres of wooded and landscaped grounds with beautiful flower gardens, manicured shrubs and various trees. There are golf courses and at least one exclusive gated community with multimillion dollar homes and estates, and The Sporting Club.

On the lower level are numerous upscale shops and cafe.

One of the Cold War relics is the large onetime top secret underground bunker built under the West Virginia Wing of The Greenbrier. It was constructed to house members of the House and Senate and high ranking government personnel in Washington, D.C. in case of nuclear war or other major disaster.

The bunker was entered through huge 20-ton steel doors and several other locations. The bunker is now a museum.

The Greenbrier is now owned by Governor Justice of West Virginia, a billionaire.

Came here on a tour as it was a Sunday and the nearby town of Lewisburg's shops were shut. A poor alternative; not much to see. Described by tour guide as "beautiful"; it's merely a v large concrete hotel painted white with a golf course.

Nice place, stopped on the return drive after Thanksgiving.
Tried to get dinner at the Forum, a pizza and pasta place and was turned away, due to not meeting dress code. We were in nice athletic attire. Only two tables were occupied and it was 430pm, oh well, wont stop anymore.

What a wonderful weekend at The Greenbrier! It was our first time but hopefully will not be the last! It's hard to describe this place in words and pictures, you just need to go and experience it!

1st the good news: the grounds are magnificent; the summer temperatures are refreshing; the tennis facilities and head Pro (Jenny) are very good; the staff is very polite. The bad news is the rooms are shopworn; the facilities are starting to fall apart (e.g. the steps leading to our cottage were crumbing, leading to a trip hazard) and the food is worse than mediocre at best. We ate at Slamin Sammy's and The Forum. Then we gave up on Greenbrier food and headed to Lewisburg, 9 miles up the road. We found some delightful restaurants up there including: The French Goat, The Humble Tomato, Food & Friends and The Livery. If you go the The Greenbrier for a break from COVID-19 we'd recommend you try out the restaurants in Lewisburg, at least until The Greenbrier gets it's food act together.

It truly pains me to give this most amazing hotel such a poor review. Before I share what has caused such a negative review after being an annual visitor for over 25 years, let me tell you what is good. The hotel staff are loyal and do a wonderful job, from housekeeping to room service. And the general grounds are still quite beautiful. Unfortunately, our Spring Row Cottage is in horrid disrepair. From pealing and broken down siding, to faded and stained cushions, to a bathtub with an opening between the tile and tub big enough to stuff a hand towel in. I ve seen the Greenbrier in both good and bad times, but I have never seen such neglect. Let me also mention that bathrobes are no longer provided In the rooms for guests, nor is there a thing in the honor bar! What is going on here at America s Hotel?!
Oh, and I do have photos of everything I ve mentioned.

Wonderful experience. Everything was top notch. Staff were always helpful and had a great attitude. Food was excellent (Prime44 steakhouse ). Has most activities you could want to do or expect from a resort. Both the Meadows and Old White golf courses were in great shape. The only negative we found was everything is expensive. Otherwise a great place to go.

The place is one of the best pieces of West Virginia architecture. The beds are comfy and the service is nice. The food is a little bit overcooked at times yet it is good anyway. The casino however kind of makes everything smell like smoke.
