Clean, safe, awesome place to stay in heart of Hamburg. Reasonable prices too, can't go wrong.

One of my least favourite hostels I've stayed in. So impersonal and not a very good atmosphere.

The generator chain is the # 1 focal point for me, and always tends to find a younger party audience.

Excellent location, cleanliness, convenient access to key card access

En of the best hosteks I've been to. Perfect for families with children and students without a lot of money. A central location, good breakfast, comfortable beds, completely clean, and with a friendly character

Cool place but let down by the staff - they re miserable, impolite, and take ages to the simplest of tasks. They also have security guards at the entrance who massively intimidating and don t even let you take he smallest amounts of food into your room. My friends and I were forced to eat outside in the cold one night simply because it wasn t food from the hostel and the member of staff didn t even have the courtesy to come and tell us in person - he used the intercom at the entrance instead! It s a good place if you re on a tight budget but I d recommend elsewhere.

Ingenious hostel right at the main train station. We were during the week. No disturbances at night, very clean rooms and super helpful staff. Keycard never worked for me at the main entrance - but it was more my fault ...
Absolutely recommended for a short break in Hamburg.

Central and more like a hostel than a hotel. Suitable for backpackers and interesting for very young people.

Rooms are quite neat. Very small bathroom.
Hardly any water comes out of the shower. You can hardly move in the shower. Everything looks much bigger in the pictures than it really is.
WiFi is very good!

They were very nice at the front desk and there were very nice rooms and it is really cool that they have a swimming pool

I advise EVERYONE to stay in the hotel, I stayed at the Generator Hotel for one night and got red spots on my body the next day. Then I went to a doctor who told me that it comes from the foreign bed where mites and other microorganisms seem to be, out of hygiene, so to speak. Who knows when the sheets were last washed ?? !!!
For this price you can at least expect a clean bed to sleep in.
For information: shower and toilet area were squeezed into the room.
Didn't even deserve 1st star !!

Good vibe enjoyed my stay, very friendly service. Rooms were small and locker in room facilities I dont think was there. The facilities and entertainment here were very good we had a good time.

There was no kitchen facilities here.

PESTIOUS !!! They charge the towels, bathrooms of 50 cm impossible to use them !! Horrible hotel

Nice hostel, good service, only downside is that the bathrooms are pretty cramped in the dorm rooms. That and towels must be rented out, I've been to nicer places that have given them for free.

The most terrible getaway I've ever had.

Already on arrival I had my doubts that I had booked with my company a satisfactory accommodation.
At the reception, bed seekers and guests mostly lined up on the street. The staff is often overstrained, slow and unfriendly.
Both of the rooms we stayed in were dirty in every nook and cranny and stank up to the sky. The bathrooms small and moldy. The showers have no shower, only pipe ends, the ventilation systems bring except noise with no additional functionalities with it and the lights buzzing like on an old station toilet.
The beds have no real mattresses, just thin foam on upholstered wood racks. The bedding was at least pleasantly comfortable - although pretty decorated with hair and crumbs. Windows and doors are overburdened with noise from the train station, street aisle, extremely noisy room doors and hallway samplers, and, and, and ...

The real highlight: loud, booming music from the hotel bar until the morning hours. Even three stories higher and at the other end of the building you instinctively take care of the building fabric. Not once were receptionists or bouncers interested in the well-being of several guests complaining.
However understandable: The rooms offered with ridiculous prices with guaranteed wake-up service must be compensated by overpriced "bar food" and cocktails.

Never again.

Great location if you only need to be close to HBF. The rooms are very nice and everything is clean and neat. There is noise from the busy street outside, I would recommend bringing ear plugs.

Hip is not the same.

If you try to get along as a family, you already notice when entering the extremely small rooms that you are not the target group. Then the so-called bath, which can make a Dixi loo competition, that's an absolute impudence.
I know we will not recommend this hostel. It may be the many young people like to stay in the multi-bedded room, but if private rooms for so much money are offered, then you should make up for it with a little service and quality.
We had no table, no chair in the room and as already mentioned, the bathroom was an absolute impertinence.

Very disappointed by our stay at this hostel. OUR PRIVATE ROOM WAS RANSACKED and A WATCH WAS STOLEN during our absence and Generator couldn't help. They don't have any camera in the corridors!!! We also got NO COMPENSATION.
So beware to keep all your valuable belongings with you even in a private room if you decide to stay at this hostel.

must be aware that it is a hostel and dahe not always rest. for easy payment I find something brash.

Breakfast didn't have a large selection but is cheap ( 5)

Great place but the bathrooms are extremely small and uncomfortable to use in the rooms. Everything else is awesome.

I love Generator Hostel. Their rooms are very modern and clean, and though the bathrooms are tiny, they're well kept and not grimy at all. The staff are friendly, and they have plenty of areas to sit and relax, which is great.

They don't really have good lobby.and locations just okay.

Better hostel than most although placed in a troubled area

The bathroom was quite small. Otherwise the room was cozy and clean.

We cannot recommend to go to this accomodation! Our tablet PC got stolen out of our locked private double room. The room was only accessible with a key card, so someone with a suitable key card managed to enter the room since the door was not broken at all. The staff tried hard to be helpful, but was completely overwhelmed with the situation. The hostel manager was not available the whole time. We contacted Generator HQ for a compensation request about three weeks ago, but did not receive any answer, yet. Seems to be that Generator does not care about their customers at all! We are completely dissapointed and won't book Generator Hostels anymore in the future.

Update 14.02.2019: I sent an Email to you like you suggested. Never got an answer. This totally confirms the expression you gave to me during our stay. No customer orientation at all.

Very good price-performance ratio. Clean rooms, very good Schallschutzfester because of the central station. Shower and toilet separated in two tiny astronaut wall cupboards. No chance for very fat. Shower + toilet in the rooms. Bring your own: soap, hair dryer, padlock padlock, towel. Is there only for money. (3 to 4 ). In rare cases you have such a room alone :).

Very uncomfortable beds but central - close to the trains - and clean. Turned on three stars ...

The only outstanding thing was the service... but one problem was probably the fact theres soo little tourism these day so there was no atmosphere

Clean hostel accommodation right in the centre. Friendly staff. Bunk beds and shared bathroom facilities, but it's a hostel!

Experience short but positive.
I stayed at the Generator with a friend for one night, clean, adequately sized rooms, polite and helpful staff.
Good location, very convenient for the bus station.

Only negative flaw the bathroom in the dormitory, really too small, otherwise I would recommend it absolutely!

Hostel to rent beds (to share with 6 or 8 people). One of the cheapest in the area.

Looks like a prison complex. Tiny bathrooms. Terrible compared to the Generator Amsterdam. Not like we expected.

Friendly service, small but clean rooms at a good price.

A shower and a toilet per dormitory, it can quickly be in line. No cooking or even hot water to make tea (requires consumption at their bar). The only possibility to leave your luggage is to rent a locker. To just sleep ok, if it's to stay for a while, it's probably better elsewhere.

The location of the hostel is good, you can walk to many sights and attractions. In the summer, however, it is very warm in the rooms .. You can only fold down the windows, so the air in the room is very stuffy. From the toilets comes a strange smell (Kolrabi similar). At the reception one must always wait very long. And even with the WLAN you have to constantly register again. The breakfast is acceptable, there could be more choice of toppings.

Great hostel in a very central location. Rooms are very clean and quite spacious. The staff are also very friendly and helpful, we have great tips on what to eat and go out for our stay. Definitely recommended, will be back! :)

Small rooms. The bathroom is tiny. The shower room is slightly larger than the barrel. For large people, it s problematic to wash normally. The floor is constantly moving, even at night. So, you can spend the night, but if you want comfort, then this is not here.

The hostel is very original and very big. Very close to the subway station and very accessible to reach.

Hostel standard, good breakfast, very great location, unfortunately food is prohibited in the room, windows can hardly be opened -> it smells very stuffy after a few days. From the upper floors you have a good view.

Good location in the middle of Hamburg with good traffic connection. We had a 4 man room. It was clean and ok for a 3 night city break. Friendly staff at the front desk, quick check in and out. The price performance ratio was okay. I take off a star since we were on 6th floor, and a lift was broken. The size must be fixed in 3 days. There are also people who are not good on foot.

First time staying in a hostel. Was a nice experience overall. Shared a room with 8 people in bunk beds. Excellently located - probably can't find a better placed accommodation. Breakfast was reasonably priced however the price of room for what you get is slightly overpriced. I'm sure there are other competitive Airbnb places around.

Stayed on the first floor (keep in mind for the negative bit later). Beds were good enough and comfortable. Per bed, there were great functional lights, 2 USB ports and a 2-pin plug for all your needs. The bathroom was perfectly alright, albeit cramped.

The reception staff were generally helpful and friendly. Props to them for Christmas work too.

If you're thinking of staying here, you really ought to know about the music.

The thing warranting a 1-star was the absolutely ridiculous noise and music coming from the club downstairs. It's 1.30am and hasn't stopped. No one in the room can sleep. Extra bass too. I felt it in my bed, heh. Could be because of the first floor room and the sheer proximity. Really, Generator? I'm surprised it wasn't brought up before.

Perhaps it's just a couple of rooms affected by this music madness and we got the short straw. Or that it's a Christmas thing. If you could guarantee during booking that your room wouldn't be affected by this, by all means get this place. It's extremely convenient and located next to the HBF.

TLDR; rooms were pretty alright, but the music is an absolute no-no. Sorry Generator, do take note of this. Merry Christmas.

Nice people, very clean ... but! Don't take security very seriously. You can simply get a card for a room, it is not checked whether it is really your own room. The hostel is at the main train station, an area that doesn't seem very safe to me. The fact that there are a lot of police around here doesn't really help.

Given this security situation, I would expect more attention to be paid to it. Now there is not even video surveillance in the hallways. So if something is stolen from you, you don't know who got into the room. For me that would be standard. Now it was the case in my travel group that suddenly a strange, older man was lying naked in a bed in a room for six women. Nobody knows how he got in, who he was and what he was doing here. He himself seemed confused. Under no circumstances should this happen! Video surveillance and better security precautions are urgently needed! Since there were no evidence videos or anything like that, except that he was naked! was in bed, the police couldn't really do anything ...

Not too far away from the station which is a plus, even if the area around it isn't particularly nice.

The hostel was modern and easy to navigate around, ideal for travellers and backpackers. Nice staff too.
Loved the room, comfy bed, shelf full of good books and a decent view of the town.

Everything was great, only the shared bathroom was a bit dirty. Just like the checkout time with 10 something early. 12 would be much more pleasant

Although very cheap, certainly not a second time! Toilet box with mini shower, neither table nor chair in the room. Gives itself internationally, because 70% of the guests are not from Germany ... On the ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle the place was already very tight ... They will not see me anymore!

Nice hostel, located near the bus station and the central station. Value for money is good! Pillows were on the soft side. I had a nice stay here!

Good place at the main station. The rooms are small and the bathrooms are mini. Nothing for tall people. The beds are soft. Only there were fleas and nothing was done. There is a nice big window.

There was no soap in the bathrooms. Just think about that, unwashed hands touching everything. The beds are very small if you are on a bottom bunk and unforgiving if you bump your head. The bathrooms are also the size of about an average human sized twice. The atmosphere is nice and they have good coffee, but I wouldn't recommend the overall hostel for a living/sleeping space. Cool to hang out in though!

Just 1 mins from subway.
The atomosphere was good.
Only one thing I didn't like was lavatory.
It was small and I couldn't wash my face or brush my teeth properly because of the small shelf which is just up from the tap.

Modern opened. That's it but also on positive points.

- Not really clean
- The damn keycards do not work 90%
- Breakfast is underground
- The toilets / showers in the rooms are a 1qm disaster
- Daily cleaning selbiger - nope
- And on top: super unfriendly receptionist
We would be tempted to "stop fussing around with the door" when we had a chat with each other in the open door for 10 seconds. The employee concerned: mottled dark full beard, thin face. Keep away from it. Otherwise very nice staff!

Clean, tidy, good value and a great location. Only giving 4 stars as we were unable to eat or drink outside food in common lounge area.

The service is bad. I used the locker here but the payment machine is broken. I called the staff to help and it took another 20 mins to open it. By the time the machine works my deadline to open my locker is expired so u need to pay for another hour to open the locker. The staff refused to pay back my money although it s their machine s problem.

Other than this the room is small, not to mention the super small bathroom. I ll never choose this hostel next time I visit Hamburg.

For people who don't want to spend a lot and are in a group. Those who are for two or alone and do not want to spend a lot but have a small toilet then it is also perfect. But the beds itch
