Generator Hostels Hamburg GmbH Review

I have never been to other hostels. This is beautiful and modern. Lots of young people ... and this feature makes it a quality. The only hateful thing: the bahns are too too small.

Good service. Could use more entertainment in the room. Good windows that isolate for the sound.

The toilet and showers are abnormally small and there is no soap or towels. We were eight in a room and had absolutely no room for much. Ha Siktir !!

6 person girls room per person per night 20 , intimate personal luggage iron cabinet, bathroom and toilet, one bed linen is clean.

Directly opposite the main train station. Clean and orderly.

At check-out our class noticed that many of our belongings were missing or were taken out of the room without our permission.

Pair of sneakers, bags and underwear returned to the lost property office. My jacket was simply taken out of the room without my permission (single room no access for 3rd persons) at the front desk had no understanding and only called the house service. When I then filed a complaint I was told at the front desk the jacket was found. Later I had to go into the cellar and my jacket at the dirty laundry and there it was again (Apparently she was put away).
Total chaos and very exhausting! After that I had to fly and had no nerves as a pregnant woman. Let's see if this jacket also comes as promised by post.

The staff is totally indifferent to their guests. We were stuck in an elevator for over half an hour and the only one who helped us was the man from the elevator alarm button. When we finally got out there was no one checking up on whether we were okay. Also when we checked in and out they seemed to be totally uncommitted and hated their work.
Room service did not clean the room, however, they took our towels and chose not to give us new ones.
It gets unbelievably hot inside the room during the summer holidays and the bathroom is 3 times worse.
When the rooms got really hot we had to sleep with the window open, which made it difficult to sleep for the noise. The area is very exposed with a lot of homeless and criminals, which does not make it very safe to go there in the evening. All night there are drunk people making noises and police sirens.
It was not possible to use the Chromecast on the TV and we tried everything. As two reasonably knowledgeable people, we tried all the tricks we knew about, but since Chromecast does not support WiFi with pop-up login pages, it was not possible to make it work. There were no other channels a generator own, which quickly gets boring when watching the same video over and over again.
The internet was really slow, it was almost impossible to use it at all.
The breakfast was boring and there was not very large selection.

Next time we will find another place to stay.

The rooms and beds were comfortable and modern with closed off toilet and shower areas inside. The bed had a personal light, an outlet, and a stable frame so that your bunkmate's moving wouldn't bother you. The staff were friendly and the mixed dorm bed was reasonably priced. Great experience outside of the loud, annoying music coming from the Hauptbahnhof area that stayed on until ~4am and kept me from getting to sleep.

I will definitely not visit again!
Much too small room, impolite service and neglected, or unclean.
Furthermore, a system that is not well thought out. A Dixi-Klo and a shower in Dixi-Klo design. Shared showers that would do well with proper cleaning.
Other generator hostels in Europe were better. For example the one in Copenhagen, I would visit again at any time. In contrast, in Hamburg there is really a contrast that you don't have to have.

Suitable for a short stay. Perfect location really right in front of the train station. Staff is friendly. Breakfast normal size. Sliced fresh fruit would be desirable. Otherwise it was tasty.
We stayed in an 8 bed room with 8 girls. The shower is not good because everything is then under water :( I used the shower in the hallway and that was ok. The toilet is cramped but otherwise everything was really perfect.

All good. But loud and very popular. For cheap, if you occupied the room with at least 3 people.

Overall 4/5 stars hostel was clean, very secure, and there's enough going on you can always find something to do.

Pros: beds were clean, each bunk had a locking chest that rolls out from under the lower bunk, there's an extra bathroom/shower room on every floor in case the one in your room is busy. They have 2 elevators and one is a very large furniture sized one, there's 2ish bars. (You can order beer at the front desk & theres a door into HelterSkelter which is the main bar)

Cons: the guy checking in next to me had a hard time because the staff had to reboot the system. So it took him an extra ten minutes. The main door into the building wasn't working for lots of people no matter how they tried it. No soap provided in the bathroom for your hands so I would recommend bringing your own. Bathrooms are a tad on the small side (but the extra one on the floor makes up for it)

Be Warned: No Outside Food Allowed even if there are plenty of common areas to eat such food you cannot bring it in

There was a queue for registration. Besides that, everything was wonderful.

A good hostel with an extremely convenient location - very close to the car and the train station. The room for 6 people was a small shower and toilet. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable. there is an elevator. You can also leave luggage in the luggage room. The staff is friendly and ready to help, there is a guard. Prices are moderate.

A nice modern, clean and reasonably priced hotel with good customer service. Also the location was very convenient in visiting Hamburgs sights

Awesome hostel and very friendly staff, but the best thing about this hostel is how easy it is to make friends and how the position is perfect

Great place for young people and if you're on a tight budget. Don't forget to bring your own towels.

Located close to the city center offering great value for money. Rooms are small and basic (no TV etc.) but clean and fully sufficient if you just need a place to crash for a lads weekend. Nice bar and outside area with stuff like concerts going on at the weekend.

Great hotel, super central, rooms functional and clean up to a little dust on sockets and skirting, Gaderobenablage clean. Beds comfortable and clean. The shower head in room 313 should be renewed. Nice very well-trained multilingual staff, despite slight technical problems with the room cards generate, no deductions, because very helpful. However, if you do not like the pulsating life at the main train station, you should refrain from booking. In the hotel all guests disciplined considerate and quiet on the floors. All ages up to mid-50 couples and groups. Suitable for all length of stay. Two days before arrival booked. We will be back.

A luxury hostel: maximum cleanliness and safety. Central location, a stone's throw from the central station and the bus terminal.

Too bad for the bathroom in the dorm which is really tiny.

The hostel was clean and has a cool atmosphere, but the staff were honestly horrible. Everyone was rude and seemed like they didn t want to help out at all. I attempted to purchase something the night before I left from the hostel and they told me they couldn t and that I would have to come back in the morning. Then when I came back in the morning they told me they were too busy for me to purchase the item. Every encounter seemed like I was bothering them which was very frustrating for a hostel that boasted 24 hour service.

It s a been a pleasant stay with them. The location is what makes the place the charm other else it s kinda little struggle. The space between the double decker bed is very small. If you re down it s hard for you relax also the bathrooms are too small.

For a hostel it is way too expensive.
The beds were clean but the floor wasn't. Also the bathroom and the shower in the room were super tiny and you were able to hear every sound from in there when you're in the dorm.
There is no kitchen and living area in the hostel and you are not allow to bring any food with you.
The one positive thing is that the hostel is right behind the train station and the U- and S-Bahn are very close.
I would recommend to find another place to stay unless you're staying for only one night.

Good hostel not too far from Reeperbahn. Obviously it is fairly basic with it being a hostel, small thin duvets and pillows but kept clean. They have lockers for any valuables you don't want to leave in the room. Plenty of places to eat nearby as there is a main high street not too far away. Also dead handy with the train station right outside.

Racist and dishonesty is the only thing they know about. Poor quality service from the front office to unhygienic toilets and showers.

Bathroom is small, yes that is true but it is perfectly adequate. Separate shower is also practical. No alcohol in the rooms is also understandable. But if GARKEIN food is allowed in the rooms, then that is not okay. Because eating is one of the "indispensable basic human needs". To completely bend something like this in the room and to take away people's FOOD is simply incomprehensible.

Food was okay, but little choice the location was perfect for public transport. The rooms are tidy and clean but very small (no chairs or tables)

Generator Hostel is a very central accommodation located at the main train station. Accordingly, one should adjust to an associative environment. The entrance to the reception is not barrier-free and our room was unfortunately not on an acceptable level regarding cleanliness and smell. Overall, the accommodation is designed for a young clientele. Unfortunately, it was nothing for us. For a night in Hambug it went. That's probably the problem. A second night - no thanks.

You even have to pay for the towels. There was not even soap. The toilet was separate from the shower and were tiny and very tight. But for it central

For this price you can not find a better hotel with such location. The staff was very nice!

It's a hostel - but a world class one. Super friendly staff, modern and clean rooms. I got a very good price - the included breakfast is decent. You can save some money by booking that beforehand, I also recommend entering your personal information online - it makes checking in a breeze.

Convenient transportation, affordable and comfortable!

Rooms are clean and nice, bed is comfortable. Have spent there 3 cozy nights, nothing to complain about. Located right near the train station. Towels and stuff are available for a small price to borrow.

Very big, very busy and (too) geared towards a young audience - that's why, despite the proximity to the main station and thus perfect location so not at all our style. A pity ....

Actually a nice hotel for school trips, breakfast is great, the rooms are not overly spacious, but quite functional. Particularly noteworthy is the bar, in the morning the spacious breakfast room and the adjoining smoking area, which is not to be entered from the outside. The problem is the nocturnal noise from the location between the two stations and the large square in front of the hotel, which comes to life at night and then resembles a bazaar in the Orient (noise). Most frightening though is the fact that the side entrance is not monitored by the security and is open 24 hours a day, so also unfamiliar "characters" are in the house and the floor showers around. This unfortunately leads to frightening clashes with hotel guests, especially at night. As a result, the security in the house is unfortunately not guaranteed.

Sickly long queue to the reception, took over 1 hour before we had to check in, after that our room was not cleaned and we had to wait another 2 1/5 hours.
Required compensation in the form of late check-out.

Our room was perfectly ok cleaned but the friends' room had both strings on the walls, beards in the sink and generally disgusting.

I could hardly sleep because it was 30 degrees in the room even though the window was open.

The best thing for this place is that it is just in front of Central Bus and Central train station in the centre of Hamburg. I was traveling from Copenhagen to Hamburg and after a long journey I wanted to avoid using local transport before I get fresh. So the place was quite close and Also I liked the standard in terms of price. For people looking for cheap place, this is the right place.

Complete hostel with all the extras first class service

The whole hostel is very modern and offers accommodation for a reasonable price including a sufficient breakfast buffet. For travelers who especially want to get to know the city perfectly. The staff is very friendly and happy to help with any queries.

Rooms are overpriced. Have reserved a 4-person room as a group of 3. Hardly any space for movement. Toilet was very dirty and the shower only partially works, hardly any water comes out. When you shower, you flood the entire toilet, which is barely 4 square meters. Far too little for 4 people. The windows are locked, so you hardly get any air in the room and it is very humid in it. So that you can get from the upper floor to the ground floor, you have to allow 10 minutes for the lift. It is forbidden to bring water, you have to buy it in the hotel. One of the worst hostel I've ever been to. Will definitely not come back!

Update after 3 weeks - generator hostel no longer answers and I will probably never see my jacket again.

The location of the hostel is just in front of the main train station and the staff is very polite and extremely nice!

Great location and clean compact room perfect for short & easy city breat

The location is excellent, the hotel in general is clean, decoration and youthful atmosphere, simple rooms, I was surprised that there was no reception phone or TV, and the staff did not treat us badly but is not very friendly. For me as a passing hotel it is fine.

Simple, clean, central and cheap. I would not book breakfast again but that was probably also because I can not eat anything in the morning.
Staff was super friendly, towels, toothbrushes, etc. You can borrow / buy for an extra charge.

9 nights and just the household
1 time only!
Toilet bowl full of toothpaste for 4 days, dirty floor for 7 days, shower (tiny plastic block) not clean (hair, dirty water, gray stain) clogged sink. In a 6-bed room, cleaning must be done every day because people are never the same and each has their own vision of hygiene and cleanliness. Horrible station side exhibition (homeless, alcoholics and drug addicts, it screams, it gets confused, it claxes ...)
MANDATORY QUIET BALL IF YOU WANT TO SLEEP!
And roll the eraser well between your fingers before the meters to the end in the ears if-not around 2 / 3am to go crazy.
Too bad because computer with free internet, washing machine, bar, catering (hot dog) lounge / pouffes, buffet breakfast and plenty of space to find, bike rental (24 hours 12)

Pretty cool hostel, friendly staff. In the hostel there is the possibility to end the evening in a bar or something to eat. The rooms are simple but very comfortable. The city center can be reached on foot in a few minutes, train station is right next to it

Excellent central location at a cheap price. Right next to the main train and bus stations. Lovely crowd of people. The staff are friendly. The beds are OK for a night or 2, but longer than that and you may find yourself a little sore.

The place clean and very good, its location excellent, the staff could be a little more friendly but it is not that I have been treated badly, simply that at the Generator in Copenhagen they were all super friendly. But well!

Okay for a night, clean, beds have sockets top and bottom, shower and toilet are separate wet cells, where turning even without a strong overweight is already difficult. Staff is friendly, environment of course loud, but that's what you expect at the main station and can not be avoided. Overall OK.

The location very well, the private bathrooms are very small, I visited it in a very hot time and the room was very hot, almost impossible to stay the night, only has a floor fan

Right next to the main station, simple but clean rooms, very small bathroom. Nice lobby, bar available.

I stayed here because it was the Beatles Hamburg recording studio. But alas. The nostolgia quickly wore off. The bathroom in the 6 person shared dorm was filthy. So dirty I couldn't use it. There was also no toilet paper.

The staff at the front desk were rude and seemed offended they had to speak English to me.

Affordable no-thrills hostel, only real complaint would be the size of the shower unit, it is quite difficult to fit in as an adult male

The receptionist played with the cell phone and was absolutely unsympathetic. In terms of price, my double bed room was not adequate. A strange plastic shower cubicle. You couldn't move in it and the door to the bathroom couldn't be opened either because the double bed was in front of the door.
The elevator was out of order and the smoke extraction system flashed yellow i.e. Safety equipment not functional.
Not recommended!
