One star for the location which is top for visiting Hamburg, one star for the price and the general hygiene which was correct.

For the rest, I find that this place does not have at all the warm side that I like to find in hostels. During our stay, profitability seemed to be the top priority of this hostel.

We had booked a "couple" room with bathroom. It was actually two single beds pushed together. The bathroom looked and smelled like an airplane toilet. I finally took my shower in the shared bathroom upstairs, it was much more comfortable! During the night, we were woken up numerous times by the doors of the floors slamming. They snap so hard that you vibrate with them when they close. The reception staff don't seem to know Hamburg more than that. When you ask them for advice on where to visit, they answer you but it's very basic. The breakfast is more than adequate for the price, except when at 9 am they are already in shortage of certain foods. One of the two elevators was out of order throughout our stay. When you are in the 6th, it can take a while in the morning to go down, whether it is with the elevator or finally on foot. One evening, the common area was privatized for a private party. I've never seen this in a hostel. It does not seem to me that a kitchen is available to prepare your meals.

Anyway, if you want to go to Hamburg as a couple and / or you are looking for something cozy, put around twenty euros more and you will have something much more comfortable and welcoming. If you are going with a group, and / or are foolishly looking for something to sleep and wash, this hostel will do just fine.

Close to Hamburg Central railway station. Rooms are good . One star less for washroom.

Need to put additional staff on for busy periods as check in and out can take a long time. Dryer in the laundry doesn't actually dry the clothes, just makes them steaming hot, wet. Dorm rooms are nice but inconsistently sized, some are spacious, some are super tight. Convenient location right across from Hamburg train station.

Were there on a school trip.

The food was ok, the hallways, rooms and reception rooms were colorful and modern and the reception was very nice.
But in some rooms the bathroom is MUCH too small !!! If you have showered, you could hardly dry or put on !!!
Otherwise a very nice hostel!

Bath-plane dimensions 2 meters x 1 meter x sciaquarsi teeth must leave the bathroom because you can not fall to the sink by how closely cleaning out of the bed, nice staff and good burgers in the bar of the hotel

Location was good as to good communication but little bit far from center of the city.

The beds were clean but I didn't like that the bathroom and shower were in the room with no vents. Therefore the room was super humid and smelled pretty bad. It was pretty cramped and my locker was broken and I couldn't use a padlock on it. It took forever to check in as well. Breakfast was nice though.

The place was good and the location was perfect .I think it was a little bit expensive but I would definitely come back :)

Lousy! The worst attention and the rooms the same. A lot of marketing and zero quality of service. It's cheap but not worth anything. 2 hours to check in and then the room with 6 beds and a single fan (no air). I will never go back to that building.

Hotel is very central, but also very close to a police station and the main train station, which is why quiet at night is not necessarily to be found. The rooms are ideal for larger groups, but only recommended for individuals who are sociable!
Breakfast, however, is very simple and not really the best! MC Donalds at the ZOB is the much better place to go in the morning!

Noisy crowded and full of youngsters. Ironing board but never an iron though I asked for it over 4 consecutive days. Bummer.

The location here is directly at the main station, thats the good thing. There are a lot of young people. The interior is modern and nice and the food is not that bad.. but it's so noisy here & you are looking out the window on some beggars .. i would be back here every time for business reasons if i have a tight schedule, but else it's not a place for me to stay. But take it like it is .. it's a hostel that made a great change in that own service and development.

The beds are good, but I did not like the fact that in the shared room, the bathroom us inside the room .

I went to the front desk to ask them to clean my room. They never went and I had to go several times until the fifth day they decided to send someone to clean the room. The staff is very rude and unprofessional. I've stayed at several hostels and even another Generator in a different location. The one in Hamburg did not meet my expectations. Try avoiding this hostel it's not worth it!

The only thing I found okay about this hostel was the location right by the train station, otherwise I found the price / performance ratio bad, the rooms too small and the toilet and shower can be compared to a can of Sardinia and there would be more space. Breakfast was under all pig and the staff totally unfriendly and you don't think of cleanliness on the windowsill was a moldy banana

Perfectly situated right next to the old town and the main station. Prices are quite cheap, only Beer is as expensive as in real bars. Staff was nice. However it could be cleaner and the bathrooms are tiny, real tiny tiny...

It is a smaller hotel but very nice especially the lobby and bar, the staff are also very nice. The rooms are a bit small, shower and toilet as well, but you can live with it.

Best hostel I have ever stayed at. Clean, very comfortable beds and nice coffee in the morning!

Modern, larger hostel. Location perfect. Cleanliness was ok. Breakfast was good for a hostel but not cheap. Had spent a pleasant week in the 6-bed room. Would book again.

Stag weekend accommodation and ticked every box. Secure clean and reasonable facilities.

The bathrooms are way too small, and while most of the staff were nice, one receptionist was rude and extremely unhelpful. They charge for luggage storage, and you cannot fit more than three people in the elevator. The beds left much to be desired. Would not stay again.

Hiked for 30 minutes with all our luggage to the hostel in the blazing heat - only to be told on arrival that the prices and availability advertised on HostelWorld were completely wrong. No apology given and the staff were indifferent. When we wanted to use their reception for 5 minutes to think about the price increase/find alternative accommodation, we were told we had 5 minutes before we had to leave.

A really nice place, with a really good location, where there are both restaurants, metro, train station and eg museum right nearby.

Location is very good, as directly to main train station. Staff is friendly and both check-in and check-out has worked without problems and wait. No food and drink allowed to have a bit disturbed because you also want something to drink. For a hostel otherwise very nice and priced in order.

Cool. Beds super comfortable, clean and very cool the hostel. Two seconds from the central train and bus station, metro, dwarf bathroom, but on each floor there is an individual bathroom that is worth using at times that make less movement

The generator "hostel" isn't really a hostel at all, but rather a very cheap hotel. They do not allow outside food or drink. They do not have a kitchen for cooking. There is no convivial nor communal atmosphere. They offer an overpriced breakfast that does not taste good, and they refused to credit me the extra nights I had paid for in advance which I did not end up needing. Altogether, if you want a cheap hotel and are not looking to meet people, this place might be for you. It's centrally located and fairly new. But if you want an actual hostel with a communal atmosphere then stay away. I will never go back.

We were a year ago with the class in this place. The room was a bit small, but very comfortable, so that was not a problem. Bathroom was a bit small, but left. The service was very friendly. However, the Wi-Fi was a little overloaded, so I had to switch to mobile data.

Clean, the staff are pleasant. Near the HBF which was most important for me. I would stay again

Amazing location - easy to get around everywhere in Hamburg

Sturdy building, modern, and minimal. The internal-circler-stairs are attractive, quiet, and bright. The property has a double-door security feature and observant hosts.

Went here on a stag and this place was perfect. Clean, friendly, cheap, central enough, etc. As far as hostels go, this is the top notch.

Standard clinical German hostel - functional to the max. Rooms were what you expect for the money, clean, simple, no frills, showers/toilets all did the job. Bar was cracking, let us drink to the early hours and sing our hearts out with no complaints - even pick the songs. Quite Stag/Hen heavy, but they work well with the groups.

Rooms were in a terrible state of cleanliness ... Breakfast wasn't included and for 5 euros you could only get 2 croissants. A full gel tube disappeared during cleaning. However, it was also really cheap and the lounge was "OK"

Friendly staff and nice rooms for what you pay. Like any hostel roommates are either hit or miss.

We were only there for one night and the service, the accommodation and the food were absolutely fine. The cleanliness was important to us and that was, we had a 4-bed room, really good.
Staff in the reception, at the bar and also at breakfast always polite and courteous.
So we always like to come back there.

We had to wait 30 minutes to do the check-in. The room was very tiny and the beds were very very near. The toilet (1 for 8 people) was very small. The bar is very expensive. The place is not very nice.

Shower and bathroom didnt have a fan so once you had a shower the whole room was a sauna and you couldnt open the window

The location is the best.
The reception leaves a lot to be desired, being very slow to answer. The room seems very tight on space but it is.
The bathroom is a prefabricated with room for improvement. There are no towels for the shower, instead they can be rented and for the price paid it is not justified.
The room must be vacated before 10:00 and to store the suitcases they charge you 6.
In short, too many extras for the cheap.

Excellent location. Comfortable beds. Washrooms are tiny. Can't brush teeth properly. No soap. No one asks for the breakfast tokens I bought.

Very central and cheap. Service is good, could be a bit more friendly but still. I recommend.

First off, I stayed at this hostel during a school trip, which means, that I shared a room with 7 of my classmates. The room was clean and generally in a good condition, but this is basically where the positives end. The room appeared to have been designed for dwarfs. Between the bunk beds, there was just enough room to stand there alone, with your shoulders parallel to the beds. On top of that, besides the small metal boxes, there was virtually no room to put your personal belongings other than on the floor (which, with 8 people gets dirty really fast) or on your bed. Needless to say, you lose track of your things real quick, because there is usually no sensible place to put them.
Additionally, the poor excuse of a shower (of which there was only one for 8 people!)... Made completely out of plastic (and smelling like that too), the whole thing is extremely cheap and seems like it would belong in an RV.
Lastly, the toilet (remember to bring your own soap, because there simply isn't any money for soap in the 146 /night price tag), which is also made of plastic and each time you use it, you are scared, that you will tear it out the plastic wall. Of course, the toilet has no window and cannot be ventilated, which is a major issue, when sharing it with 7 other people.

All in all, during my stay, we avoided being in the hostel as much as we could. We made full use, of the curfew, which the teachers had put in place, and even getting back to the hotel, we often stayed in the lobby playing cards until well into the night, just to avoid being in our room.

I don't understand why the negative reviews but this place was AWESOME! live music on certain nights! I was able to entertain some folks as well!

The hotel is nicely decorated, but the bathrooms are very small and the boss is really very unfriendly. The rest of the team is very friendly and helpful.

Great hostel with great services, a modern hostel with bar. Very close to the main station in hamburg. Great hostel for interrail travellers.

Due to lack of hotel during my travel time I have had a single room here for two days. You can think about hostels, whatever you want, but I was definitely positively surprised. The room was very clean and although there was always something going on, I could not hear any noise. The staff is very friendly and the bar top; the location directly at the central station unbeatable. For me personally, the breakfast situation gets a point deduction, as many had to search for a seat with their food. If you want a sumptuous breakfast, you may want to dine outside. :)

Hello, if you could give zero stars then I would have done this. The hostel was an absolute impertinence the rooms much too small and the beds are not suitable for a height of 1.60m, because it was not possible to get in and out without hurting yourself. The sanitary facilities were too small and from the shower heads maybe a small stream of water. In the entire 5 days where we were here was not even the bathroom wiped, let alone the windows or the floors. Last but not least, the food. We paid 9 for that, but for this money you would have got something much better elsewhere. There was lasagne in the supermarket in the freezer. No deals for vegans or allergy sufferers. Salads or even a tea evening drink was also not, because there was only tap water. Hardly change at breakfast. So I can not recommend this hostel and would advise against it.

Room was OK. No air conditioning or a fan so we were uncomfortably hot overnight. We had to keep the window open to air things out which meant that you could hear all of the noise from the bar downstairs... which is a lot of noise. That combined with the running and yelling in the halls outside our room, and the slamming hallway doors leading to the stairs, meant we didn't sleep well at all. The staff were super friendly though, the beer was good, and the design is cool. Just not a place to go if you're looking to relax and get a good night's sleep.

OK for a short stay. Very convenient location. Not expensive. Staff is helpful. Breakfast is OK.

But ... prison-like rooms, no cleaning during your stay, no cup in the bathroom, no cupboard, no TV ...

Classic youth hotel / hostel but also suitable for adults. Top price performance ratio

Absolutely ok for a night or two. Prices absolutely great.

Am so satisfied. Cleanliness behind the bed was okay. Only alone where I have to complain. At 80 euros for a double room for one night, no TV ???

Clairaudient, Wakelnde walls and overstrained staff. At least clean, but that does not help when you hear the whole hostel and not a minute sleep.

The location couldn't be better, 1 min walk from the central station, and the hostel is well designed, really neat and modern! The bars in the hostel are also nice for backpacker to hangout with each others.

I was in a 6-bed room.

Postive:
+ The lockable boxes (- need extra small padlock, in the hostel from 3 ) under the beds are lying and large, so you get almost everything without problems.
+ The check-in is impressive uncomplicated and self-explanatory, if you have already booked.
+ The comforters are stowed in the boxes under the beds ready to use, so you do not have to get them yourself. At the check-out you do not have to drag them to the front desk as in some other hostel.
+ The price for the nearby location at the main train station is just perfect and you can always get back there without any complications.
+ Who likes it: There is a bar and in the evening there were sometimes small bands here.
+ Plenty of space and pleasant atmosphere in the entrance area and the overlying relaxation area with plenty of seating.
+ uncomplicated WiFi access
+ The beds have USB outlets and regular outlets just above the headboard
+ 3 computers with free internet connection are in the entrance hall

BETWEEN:
+ 2 elevators ...
- ... one of which got stuck for a while.
+ separate shower and toilet per room ...
- (see below).

NEGATIVE:
- The shower is the closest I've ever seen. This is probably because it was installed in a kind of large plastic box, as originally no separate room in the rooms was designed for this purpose. Correspondingly narrow and noisy are these mini-remedies. Showering becomes a challenge! Approximately 60 cm wide, so nothing for people with claustrophobia. Have no, but can imagine that it can cause problems.
- Beds are not suitable for tall people, I was literally still in the frame with a rather normal height of 1.75 m. This should at least be pointed out somewhere I think, because that can be a real problem. About 1.90 m height you hardly need to dare to the hostel. (at least in a 6 bed room, others I have not seen)

CONCLUSION
Uncomplicated hostel with overall pleasant atmosphere. However critical for people with a height over 1.90 m and certainly nothing for those with claustrophobia (shower & toilet).

One last, quite "informal" good facilities such as hotel type, plus a city hostel. Very good atmosphere and jovial, perfect services. Bar / Pub with good musical atmosphere and monthly party with DJ. A break to St.Pauli and where to sleep.

Nice place and central but the rooms were too hot as not air conditioning and the windows don't open on high levels. Which ain't great when you're sharing with sweaty travellers.

Bathroom can be a little more spacious! Other than overall a great experience.

Was there a year ago was okay so far only a bit too loud is not a 5 star hotel but only a hostel but for a quick and short trip to Hamburg to experience. Plus point is the location right next to the main station so easy access to the public transport therefore man needs so far no car and man can also easily by train arrivals

Nice amenities, but do not book in the summer! There is no ac during the summer and ventilation in the rooms are miserable.

Terribly uncomfortable hostel. Very greedy policies. The WiFi is the most obnoxious thing I ve ever seen. I have never hated staying at a place more. Avoid!
