This is a very interesting place. It's definitely under renovation but if / once those are finished it looks as if it would be a very cool place to game.
They have a large selection of out-of-print GW items. Some board games, role-playing games but nothing amazing.
Owner was very cool. I definitely look forward to going back to this place when they're fully renovated. And that's a two-hour road trip for me.
Lots of gaming items...tabletop, rpg, models, figures and cards...check it out! Friendly atmosphere, courteous owner
Absolutely the worse and most amateurish shop of its kind in the area, if it even could qualify as a gaming shop. It barely does. The owner is a cheapskate and does not have in-depth knowledge of the products he scalps. He is clearly an outsider to serious gaming who is just out for a quick buck. Gatehouse's mark-up prices can be almost 30% of the base product cost. Very unprofessional and uncomfortable, the owner will openly complain about personal matters to random customers for a long duration of time. He loses a lot of business with his lack of decorum and lack of any semblance of true care for his customer after a purchase is made. Do yourself a favor, show a little self-respect --self-regard even-- and visit anywhere else but here. Does not deserve this single star. Wish zero was possible.
Very cool place, looking forward to playing some Warhammer there!
Great game store. In the process of relocating so it is a bit cluttered. There is a huge amount of table space for any kind of gaming you could want.
I have been going here since Tim's first store but the newest store needs a lot of work. I am hoping the store makes progress sooner than later.
I was in the market for some out of print models and was pleased to find them at their website. Delayed shipping due to Covid and their remodel which I'm totally ok with. My items ended up getting lost in the mail and was tracked down quickly for me. Awesome customer service and answered every one of my questions.
Tim is the man! Very easy to deal with and tells hilarious stories! Highly recommend to anybody.
Best place to get all gaming needs. Everyone is friendly. The place is designed the a castle. Good discounts sometimes.
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff, tons of room to stop in and play!
Terrible lighting. All the merchandise was in disorganized piles. The unending bagpipe music was way too loud, enough to hurt my ears and make it impossible to think. I drove there all the way from State College only to be severely disappointed. Tim, however, is a great guy. He just needs to get his store in order before I come back.
I've been to Gatehouse Games on and off for about ten years. The owner is very friendly and extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the products he sells.
I have been going to Gatehouse Games since I was a kid, over 15 years ago. I started with the Pokemon TCG, then as I grew interested in the table top games, I turned to Tim, the owner, to guide me on my way. I have since built 2 Warhammer 40k armies, several faction armies for WARMACHINE, two fleets for Battlefleet Gothic, a gang for Necromunda, several decks for Legend of the Five Rings.
Gatehouse Games is the place for gaming in Central PA!
I spotted this place while getting gas at Sheetz. My wife and I were just passing through, so are not familiar with the area. My inner nerd told me to look that direction and the front facade caught my attention, so immediately good job there!! I am a casual Magic the gathering player so I decided to check them out. The inside is also done up in a castle design as well. The layout was kind of spread out and wasn't sure of where everything is but plenty of space to actually play. If I was more local I would definitely stop back.
Tim's a great guy who's very knowledgeable about the products he sells. Tournament structures that accommodate casual players without excluding competitive players makes for a friendly environment.
Great selection of board games, card games, and tabletop miscellany. Friendly and helpful owner. Plenty of events throughout the week for just about any game you can think of.
A huge selection and the store looks awesome. Great prices as well.
Just went to Gatehouse games for the first time yesterday. It is a by far the best game store I've ever been too. They and very kind, helpful, and understanding. I will be making this store the main place. I will get my Warmachine and Hordes miniatures at.
Love this place! The owner is a great guy! I have been known to play Hero Clicks there in the past
great selection on table top gaming products. Owner is very knowledgeable but also a bit arrogant. Avg. Price slightly higher than other options though. Not a good place to trade cards to terrible prices.
My boyfriend loves to paint models and this is the perfect place to get everything he needs. plus they have a variety of board games which I can look at while waiting. Plus Tim is a super great guy!
Good selection of gaming items and tons of events to connect with others in the community.
I have gone in to Gatehouse multiple times for Magic, but recently I had asked about other games. Tim the owner helped me find games that I was unaware of and helped me find one that I liked. He didn't have the starter kit for that particular game so I emailed him asking if he could order it for me. I got an immediate response that said that the set that I wanted was going to be in his next shipment.
He is very knowledgeable in what games are in his store and gives great advise. Also if he doesn't know about a game he has, he suggests other patrons that do, that one could ask.
I was skeptical at first, but I will now suggest Gatehouse highly to all who enjoy games.
The owner was super friendly and passionate about gaming. The store has a great selection.
Awesome gaming store! It was my first time visiting, but they had apparently just moved locations and their new decor was amazing!
Great selection. Lots of great gaming events. Great hobbies to take on. Plus the owner Tim is great to his customers. He has great knowledge of all the games and will help you with anything you need!
Great shop location and I love the castle theme. Can't wait to come back!
Stopped by this shop while in Altoona on other business.
The good:
Owner seems like a nice person.
Decor, though in process of remodeling, shows genuine enthusiasm for his business.
Nice selection of Games Workshop products.
Ample parking.
This is clearly a serious gamers hangout with plenty of tables set up for in house gaming. If I lived here I d probably game here regularly.
The bad:
Limited D&D selection.
Had only one set of dice in stock. Was looking to buy some dice.
Limited board game selection.
No used/classic products in stock.
The place was dark in its many game group alcoves, which I assume has to do with the ongoing remodel.
Many other product lines appeared to have limited stock.
Ended up buying nothing, which is a first for me entering a serious game shop like this. I ll write the limited stock levels off to COVID-19 making purchasing stock difficult at this time, and some of the awkwardness of the store sections to the ongoing renovation.
It s on my list to swing back and give this place another shot in a few months when I m back in town.
Amazing owners and great atmosphere. Always makes me feel welcomed and excited to see me when i walk in the door. Love the crowd of people and of course gaming everywhere
To say that the owner goes out of his way to help you is an understatement! He has been very helpful in finding me one of my few missing expansions I needed for some of my favorite games. Cares about the customer.
Went to the store twice and both times I like the customer service the guy there is very helpful and he could tell you things for days about warhammer40k factions, he knows what he's talking about and both times he was always friendly. He gave me tips on painting and now I can grow being a painter. So you can never go wrong with this store to purchase some table top games.
Really great selection of miniatures, but a smaller boardgame selection. Great space for wargaming. It's hard to find from normal traffic, so pull in towards Sheetz and follow around behind it and look for the large grey castle.
Tim is great, he is very helpful. One of the greatest game shops I've ever been to.
Had a Great time! Good atmosphere and the owner has a great personality and is very helpful.
Hands down the best game shop I've ever been into across the globe. Owner Tim is knowledgeable about all his products and shows genuine interest to all his customers. The shop is spacious with a lot of room for gaming as well as having tables for Warhammer setup. He has a lot of stock on hand of pretty much everything you could possibly want: card games, miniatures, and even boardgames.
Total thumbs up to this gem in the middle of central PA.
One of the employees (Jeff Dietzel) is very arrogant and refuses to answer questions when your are genuinely open to being corrected. Asking a simple "why" will get you shut off. Not friendly to those who are looking for answers to their questions.
Most knowledgeable about all things related to war-gaming and collectable card games! Top-notch atmosphere and game support!
vERY FRIENDLY PEOEPLE HEE - EVEN FOR A NOOB LIKE ME :)
I collect old White Wolf books and I'very always found rare ones there. Knowledgeable and polite people.
Great place for all you table top gaming needs and trading card games. The owner is super friendly and really go out of his way to make you feel comfortable in his store.
Best place to go to get singles and packs for MTG and the owner is very knowledgeable and overall a great guy
The people who think this is a great game store have obviously not been to a lot of game stores (since this is the only one in the area). The selection of minis was huge, but the selection of board games was poor, and poorly treated. Not willing to bulk discount the old CCG packs that have been sitting in a box for probably 10 years when I offered to take the whole box at once even though most can be had elsewhere for $10/box.
Don't come here for board games. Small, dark corner and limited selection. Nothing is priced and when I asked about prices he said they're all msrp. He actually said people don't like stickers all over games. The brand new games were all in shrink wrap, so price stickers wouldn't hurt a thing. If you don't want to "damage" the shrink wrap, why not print out a price list and hang it beside the games? I don't want to ask about every game I pick up. The store itself didn't even look like a store inside. I guess if you want to play Magic, it's okay, but if you're looking for a shopper-friendly environment and board games, go elsewhere. I ended up going a few miles away to Barnes and Noble and bought 5 games at half off. I did, however, enjoy the outside castle decor.
Welcome to the castle! A gamers guild growing indeed. From tabletop in-store playing options to miniatures, board games, card games, and rulebooks. Check it out. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable.
Owner was very knowledgable about the products and friendly. Great selection of Magic the Gathering. Will definitely be my go to for all things game related in the future.
Very cold employees. Definately a cool looking shop.
Tim is a very smart and helpful guy. His shop has a major inventory of different tabletop games and schedules for when events happen in house. You will never feel pressured to buy anything but his recommendations are great and pointed to your needs.
My son goes there every Friday for Warhammer, he loves it!!
Timmy gatehouse knows the ins and outs, backwards and forwards of more games than is possible to imagine.he allways gives you his undevided attention, when you ask him anything.just all around great person.his prices are excellent, and has a ton of things to choose from.this man has a memory that makes you think how in the world can he remember this much stuff.he is your man if you need any info, etc, etc, and is a wonderful friend, keep it up Mr.Gatehouse, ;)
I love stopping in to check these guys out! Not only does the place look like a freaking castle, but the owner plays THE BEST MUSIC, prices are totally reasonable, and I've learned something new each time I visit. Super helpful and excited owner seems genuinely interested in what I'm working on.
This is the best game store around. Customer service is 5 star. I always find an excuse to come in when im nearby. Tim has a great shop.
