Camp Carter is amazing. Everything you would want and expect in an old fashioned summer camp. The kids are able to enjoy activities, make friends, and just generally be kids while learning independence and time management. It's refreshing, but can be a shock to technology dependent children as well as helicopter parents.
It was a nice camp at one point, the facilities put plain and simple are disgusting though. The YMCA needs to replace the showers, bed frames, beds, tables and climate control areas. Though the camp does offer some nice things, such as canoeing, trail running, hiking and archery, it servery lacks proper berthing.
One of the best memories Ive had when I use to live in Ft Worth, last day of 5th grade was the one time we went.
I have to agree with Pierce. Our daughter went there this past Summer. I toured the facilities myself and the place is run down. The swimming pool is a swamp and the cabins apparently are not sprayed for bugs. It's not what it use to be when I was younger. We are campers and are pretty tough with these things but it just didn't seem clean. The scheduling was disorganized. My daughter missed the archery session. There wasn't any instructor so they sat and waited for the next event which was swimming. She got tired of that because everytime she came up to breathe there would be leaves, grass etc. landing on her face. It's better to swim in a river. What a shame, Camp Carter use to be the place to go.
Tons of activities for the whole family. Archery, challenge course, canoeing, fishing and equestrian center. Something for everyone. The Y staff are all super friendly and do a great job of making sure everyone feels included.
When I went on a field trip for this, we literally went on a hike for 30 minutes or more and the hike was just pointless.
This was FUN!!! Too bad I didint touch the truck but..My sister told me she found a "GoatMan" In woods one year later ..IM STILL RESEARCHING
My daughter had a great time other then a few mishaps. Kids will be kids I guess. She did the shooting range and had fun. Loved camo leader Tinkerbell she was great talked about her all the time.
Would give higher rating, it's a nice facility. However, kind of hard to give a higher rating if you can't reach anyone to use the facility.
Went here as a kid in fifth grade. It was cool I guess
I have been there there are deers and a lake and hills and very nice people
Because when your there for a whole day it's so awesome.
We emailed and booked a trail ride for our family in advance. We made it clear we only had a very limited time and we had to do the ride at a certain date and time and we received written confirmation that our ride had been booked. We drove an hour to get to the equestrian centre only to be told that the people there had no idea about our ride. They called Savannah, the person who had confirmed our booking and she couldn't care less! She told them to give me her number so she could speak to me to re-book but we were leaving in the morning so we couldn't go back another time, which she already knew! Not only did we miss our only chance to have a trail ride in Texas, we drove almost 2 hours (there and back) and wasted valuable holiday time for nothing. Savannah, who emailed me many times before this to supposedly book our ride didn't even bother to email me an apology. This was the biggest disappointment of our trip, especially as my 8 year old son was really looking forward to this experience.
Best camp!! I used to go when i was little almost every summer and now my son goes!! Hope its still open when my youngest is old enough!!
Feels more like being incarcerated than being at camp. One of the crapiest camps I've ever been to.
This summer will mark my eleventh year attending Camp Carter and I must say it truly is the best place on earth! Amazing views, fun activities, great facilities, and fantastic people are the main things you will find at this camp. When you arrive, you meet an amazing group of hard working and caring people who will not only keep your kids safe, but make sure they have an incredible time! I've attended this camp as a camper, councilor in training, and this year, a volunteer councilor and this place is so much fun no matter what view point you are attending from.
My son attending the Friday night overstay on 06/24/16 and they let him sleep in his dirty clothes hid been in all day, and cry himself to sleep. When I picked him up on Saturday he was covered in mud, dirt, and sweat. Worse experience I have ever had.
Camp Carter was the best place that I have went to I hope yall have fun.
