I have used Freelancer a number of times. Although there are plenty of good freelancers/technicians to do jobs, Freelancer does an extremely poor job of ensuring that they are not gaming the system in how bids are posted.

They seem to market behind the philosophy that once you post a project you will have bids in minutes.

It takes posting several projects to figure out what is happening. Yes you will get bids in minutes, frequently under 30 seconds and I have seen bids arrive faster than the time it takes the page to reload after clicking to post a project - almost miraculously.

If you look into these immediate response bids it becomes obvious that the bidders are using some sort of template process/method to make this happen. The fact is, it's not a race. In posting any project I care about finding a freelancer who clearly read the project description and specifically addresses the project in the bid.

As a result for the most part I ignore the initial batch of spam posts and look to later posts for authenticity. Also to note - I've reported this problem many time to Freelancer through tickets and offered suggestions to improve the system - but nothing changes.

Another user tried to hire me by clicking "hire me" button on my profile page and finally it revealed that he asked me complete a project which wasn't matching my skill set, although he created the project as matching my skill set. I didn't just reject the project because I was concerned about dropping my bid quality score. I got support desk agent, Katie R. who provided a great solution for me and revoked the fake project by herslef.

I am reaching out to let you know that someone has to manage the chat team. It is going out of control day by day. I spoke over the years to numerous people and their attitude is really bad. Rude and arrogant regardless the topic. I believe a serious company like Freelancer deserves to be represented by normal people and not by kids with very bad attitude.

FEES FEES FEES Any company feels somewhat scammy when it starts out by grabbing your email, then your name, then wastes your time collecting lots of detail then presents a screen asking for credit card details. In a small detail on the bottom of the screen is the word fees. So you stop and look. Seeking work ? Got to pay fees ?. It turns out unless you pay them fees theres pretty much no use to the site at all., you only get a shwn a couple of cheap small jobs. For ONLY $88pm (Yes that $1056pa) not clear if NZ$ AU$ or US$ you get to see more jobs etc. No wonder the founder is so terribly pleased with himself all the time. Forgot the second bit of "Fake it till you make it".

It's hard to take this site seriously when its "skills tests" are such jokes. My image keeps getting removed, so here's the text:

"John eat 2 pieces of apples a day. Now, is Thursday, but he remembered the his apples left after eating apples during Monday are 30 pieces after that, he gave the half of all his apples to her daughter. How many apples left, if today is Friday after eating the two pieces of apples?"

What? On top of that, a couple other questions had duplicate choices for the correct answers, making it impossible to know which one was supposed to be selected. These were, at the time (and maybe still are), graded automatically with no question-specific feedback.

The worst part is it costs $ to take these tests, which at first seemed reasonable since the idea is the tests are one way you can show your knowledge and value to prospective clients. Freelancer refused to give me my money back and instead offered a voucher for another test. Luckily it was just a few dollars, and to be fair, they were clear about the no refund policy beforehand, but the level of unprofessionalism regarding these tests is atrocious. They advertised these tests as being well constructed and a worthwhile use of time instead of a bunch of words arbitrarily vomited onto the page. I can't in good conscience recommend this site to anyone.

They froze the funds of my freelancer and caused huge damage to our relationship and the project was jeapordised. They did this without my authorization. I had contacted them to ask about getting a PM perhaps because we were encountering problems, and they just took it upon themselves to fire the freelancer. When I tried to fix it, I couldnt find a number to call and had to go via their inane chat service with staff who need training and have no clue. They told me that the Terms & Conditions and procedures applied to customer accounts are private and they dont need to share those with customers. This ILLEGAL !! To have T&Cs applied to a customers money and have no right to know what Freelancer will do with it? This is the stuff we expect from North Korea and not Australia. Very dodgy. AVOID AVOID AVOID

I signed up to use this service to help a friend research cheaper options for their website. 95% of freelancers were from India and China. I asked one if I could video chat with them. Its very important I can talk with a freelancer. The person said it violates the T&C's. I also received an official warning. Bad mistake Freelancer-com as I made it very clear I would not try to pay the freelancer directly. This would be a big mistake and risk. Its always best to pay via a website in case of any dispute. No worries I found a freelancer via LinkedIn and for free.

Its been a great experience. The only bad experience is freelancer excluding me from taking part on contest which i believe is harsh on me.

I believe its a conspiracy, for freelancer to take such decision to someone else, I think that person should know and should give reason.

You don't imagine someone telling me to design and advert for iphone 7, and the only place to get the picture for that phone is via google. i don't have an iphone so where did freelancer expect me to get the picture for my design?

Thats the reason for me been blocked.

Aside that i believe its been cool here cos it expose me to whats going on out there.

Second time I have had trouble with these scammers. Definitely the last time. Created a contest for video editing, Some freelancers asked me to guarantee the contest. I did. None of them entered. In fact the only entry was from a guy who submitted his own logo and that was it. Contest ended but as there were no entries the only option was to repost. Thus more money. I did not want to repost and pay more money. The contest was deleted. But freelancer refused to refund me. Freelancer are quite happy to have me without the work and also without my money. Because they will disperse my money to a guy for uploading his own logo!! It would be different if the guy uploaded an entry that followed the brief a little. But this was completely ignored. Why should he get my money for completely ignoring the brief? Simply because he was the only contestant he gets the money? Freelancer customer service reps (Kathie Hartford, Gary) are equally unhelpful and even rude. They could not care less about the customer. Stay away from these scammers! DO NOT USE.

Service is appalling - fees are over the top - no protection for people who hire freelancers - You can only contact them through a chat box and most of the time no one is there. Never again , never again

I was just robbed by this company. They stole my money. I had funds in my account and they took it. They closed my account- without warning or explaination- and helped themselves to my earnings. They won't tell me why. I'm... in shock. I worked so hard for that. I was putting in 15 hours days. They just took it.

We use freelancers all over the world, and Freelancer.com is the worst platform by far. We were working with a good freelancer and then they restricted our account, even though they have our money. They are not responsive to their own ticket system. They have turned off their live help chat, ostensibly due to Covid?? . No phone number to call for emergencies. I email them and they refused to answer. This project is now far behind schedule and the programmer needs to eat!!! Are they going out of business? Or are they already broker?

Pertaining to Freelancer.com, had nothing but terrible experiences as a programmer that does freelancing. Most of the project postings I saw were fraudulent. Recruiters are using this website for head hunting and their postings are fake. Also, some of the freelancers are using fake ids/profiles.

About Freelancer

Freelancer is a leading online marketplace that connects businesses and individuals with top-rated freelancers, web developers, and designers from around the world. The platform offers a wide range of services across various categories such as web development, graphic design, writing & translation, data entry & admin support, sales & marketing, accounting & consulting and many more.

Freelancer also offers various tools to help streamline the hiring process such as time tracking software which allows employers to monitor progress in real-time. Additionally, there's an escrow system in place which ensures that payment is only released once work has been completed satisfactorily.

In terms of security measures taken by Freelancer.com they have implemented several features like two-factor authentication (2FA), SSL encryption technology for secure communication between users' browsers and servers; IP blocking feature which prevents unauthorized access attempts; fraud detection algorithms that detect suspicious activity patterns; dispute resolution system where disputes between clients and freelancers are resolved by an independent arbitrator etc.
