This is a great place to learn to ski or a great place to get some good ski runs in and stay in shape for a trip out west. It is not the biggest place, but they do a great job making the area they have useful and enjoyable. There are lots of lifts too keep the lines short, and most importantly they have plenty of snow where it counts, on the runs. If you are not sure about the snow, just check there web cams.

Lift operators (in particular the old guys working the early shift) are the rudest most unprofessional people I have ever encountered at a ski resort and ive been to over 25 worldwide. They need to learn the difference between being customer service & authority figures because they dont wear badges. Might want to send them to some people skills training. All but 1 black slopes were closed. Minimal lodging & restaurants in the area so I dont recommend traveling to this place. Not bad if you live near by and/or just spending 1 day there. If you're traveling and staying multiple days go to Snowshoe, WV.

Excellent slopes and superb staff. I had a wonderful experience. The cafereria has good food and there are places to rent out right on the slopes. There is a wide range of slopes for different skill levels. This is a wonderful place to learn to ski with lessons catered to the skiers. I would recommend this place to anyone wishing for a nice ski trip.

This is a fun getaway for snow tubing. A bit pricey, but the shuttle from the parking lot & the standing, belt-based list up the hill are helpful. They seem to have a good handle on extending their season through their efficient snow-making operation. While they have had to tighten the rules for liability reasons, the stay still has that West Virginia charm.

Just recently had a whole group of seven plan a trip to winterplace. Four of went tubing which they said was a blast. One was skiing because he s done it for years. And 2 of us without any expierence chose to snowboard. Horrible idea to just wing it, believe me I know. Paid the extra 22$ for a lesson. Our instructor was an awesome guy who s name was Blaire. He did more than help, by the time he got done explaining us how to snowboard, (which is 10x harder than skiing I m told), we were both curving some and ready to go down intermediate hills. Once done we shredded the rest of the night. Because of him my friends and I got to skii and snowboard together and I m very grateful.

We took a group of about 25 people snowtubing this weekend. We paid $30 per person to snowtube from 1-5. In that amount of time we were only able to tube 4 times. The line was horrible! I was under the impression that they only allowed so many people to buy tickets for that time slot but anyone who came in was able to purchase one. There were about 400-500 people in line and only about 50 tubes. We had traveled about 3 hours and being able to only go down the hill 4 times for that price was not worth it. Also, they tell you that they have lockers to rent for $1 but they can only be used one time. Once you put your quarters in them you can only open the locker one time. They also are not big lockers so alot of bags will not fit in them. If you forgot something on accident you would have to pay another $1 to lock it back. The staff was very friendly and the food was really good. If you plan on taking a big group I would definitely buy the meal voucher for $8.95, it saves you a couple dollars per person. Overall though it was not worth the money. Weekdays im sure is alot better but having to stand in line for an hour to tube once is just not worth the time or money.

I loved being there. But the food was too expensive and it is not made for snowboarding. there needs to be a middle ground because the bunny slope is too flat for snowboarders yet the next one up is too steep for beginners.

Went for a day of skiing and tubing, and had a blast! This was my 8th time at this resort and every year is great. The black diamonds were a bit icy, but most trails were fine. I would recommend winterplace to any 1st time skier as they have really good instruction programs and tons of easy trails. The mountain house always has a fire going which is nice after a long tubing session!

The only reason I ski here is because it is convenient. The slopes are to easy, the snow conditions aren't that great, and the buildings definitely need a overhaul. Also the rates are a little....high in some ways. And the terrain parks can be called dangerous because of the hard flat landings and ice.
Other than that though, it does satisfy my ski bug. But if you are traveling more than 100 miles to this place, I would recommend that you drive a little bit further to Snowshoe or Canaan Valley.

Tried snowboarding here for the first time and the experience was enticing! will definitely be going back. the slopes can be crowded at certain times but you simply have to navigate around some people. prices weren t shabby either! highly recommend

We made the mistake of going on a holiday weekend ...

We made the mistake of going on a holiday weekend when dozens of church youth groups apparently booked ski trips. We overhead that there were 1800 visitors that day, and it was clear that this place does not have the infrastructure to accommodate the amount of passes they sell. Lines for the ski lifts were incredibly long, and the runs themselves were so packed with skiers that it was a challenge not to bump into anyone or get caught in a pile up. The black diamonds weren't as crowded, but by mid-morning the snow had been so abused by the number of skiers that no one in our party wanted to go down them anymore.

Interestingly, we noticed that the workers are either very friendly or astoundingly rude. We saw one employee rush to help a child who had stumbled, and then saw another belittle a child for falling down. The highlight of my trip was, on my first green after learning the basics of snowboarding, knocking over a bamboo pole and getting sassed by the smart-mouth pole-attendant who said I should just go home.

However, around 6 PM, the youth groups cleared out and we discovered this place is actually pretty nice when there's a reasonable number of visitors. Our best advice: do not go on a three day weekend. They will sell too many passes and you will not have a good time.

Overall a great day today on the mountain. The conditions were great, not too crowded, and a good time with friends. The only complaint would be the guy at the bar who was really rude. Luckily the other bartender was really friendly.

On top of the fact that we were unfortunate with weather that resulted into poor quality slopes, I think overall slope design is pretty bad. Crossing slopes of different complexity and letting green ones go sometime where the blue or even black one goes. Slopes are pretty narrow and do not have any safety features/fences. I saw a kid crashed into tree and evacuated. We even did not try more difficult slopes because of poor condition. May be they feel better when snow is decent. I would not rely on information provided on the site. Webcams are useless because do not show much. Food on site is horrible. Feels overpriced for what it is...

Always a blast coming to this place. Only downside would be that when it gets busy no one is around to give order when getting on the chair lift. Love driving up here, but if I had to choose from driving the 4 hours to this place or driving another 2 hours to snowshoe, I would definitely have to say take the extra drive. I go to sugar mountain and beech mountain quite often so it's great to get away from the usual.

Just an FYI this is a skiers mountain, not really snowboarder friendly.

My family comes here every year and we love it. My mom and I stick to blues and greens, while the guys like to run the black slopes. Enough variety to keep the five of us entertained all day, with extremely convenient access to lodges and condos. I recommend Winterplace to anyone considering a ski trip, particularly for groups with varying skill levels.

What a great place to ski!! Highly recommend Ski Wee ski school if you have little ones. The instructors are amazing. My five year old daughter went from not being able to ski at all to being able to ski all the way down the mountain this season. One of the coolest things was when I happen to be on a lift to see her go down her first hill. She was super excited and it was awesome to see the instructors praise her and give her high fives. They genuinely seemed as excited as she was. She still has more to learn and will definitely be back to ski school next season.

I have been to Winterplace probably 10 or so times. It's snowboarding in the east so it's as good as its going to be. I think the staff should have a little bit more decency to not light up their Marijuana in frobtw of little kids. And yes I say the general staff because everyone outside of the office I dealt with lights up openly. I went this past weekend and was pretty frustrated because they advertised a open terrain park. I get there, and it has absolutely no features. Like... what? So I gave up a day at beech with a terrain park to go to Winterplace and not have anything... I love the place don't get me wrong but they have a few loose ends that need fixing.

Snow not being made daily so check the cams/weather before you go . If your staying at mountain inn be aware it's all stairs and no elevators so you'll be lugging stuff up with no bell man or bell carts. The bedrooms are also above , loft style so pack light or get ready to carry a lot. Having said that great resort . We had Dwight as a private instructor 3 days in a row and was great with our 4 yr old.

Overall very friendly staff , easy parking, and easy to get around, book lessons, rent gear etc.

Love winterplace but had a very bad experience on 3/5/19. We showed up at 2pm and the lady at check in said you close in 2 hours. The website has since been updated but we showed up ready to ski. The lady running the desk was very rude and even after I showed her the website she did not even apologize. Very rude.

It is great to have a ski resort in this area of WV! It's right off the interstate, so very easy to access. The slopes are fairly easy, so it's a good place for beginners to learn. It is lacking in the amount of more difficult slopes.

Very great place for ski and also to learn ski. Very friendly and helpful staff. You can hire everything and walk in and get training in snowboarding and skiing. 20min drive from mayor shopping center. There is food restaurant available. There is a bar to enjoy a sundowner with your friends. The lifts are in good shape and overall i would say 9/10. Will visit again.

Ski'd over MLK weekend. Was supposed to be able to ski free on Monday, MLK Holiday, but the young man that assisted with ski rentals and lift tickets didn't know anything about it even though it was advertised on their website. On Saturday, went to information desk to find out how to get the lift ticket for the free skiing on MLK, and was told that had to be done at the time the first two day's lift ticket was bought. They finally allowed us to ski free on MLK Holiday, but not without having to speak to a manager. Also, it seemed every time we asked a question we received different answers from staff members so we never knew which answer was correct. It was evident their staff was not very well informed and several times we heard "I don't know...I haven't worked here long". On the plus side, the ski wee school was awesome, even though we kept getting conflicting info on signing up for it, etc.

Great place for us to take our youth group skiing. We've been several years in a row now. Not so big that I can't keep track of kids, but big enough to give them a feeling of "freedom" while skiing. We'll be back!
