fun place to walk around. Interesting items. Nice people.
I like the market ,but they need more variety of fruit and vegetables
Always fun to walk around and enjoy the art, people and indoor market.
Much to see and inexpensive finds too. Nice place to stroll about and look. But you're going to want to buy something. I did.
It is local market fresh vegetables available here very good place
Eastern Market has always been a great staple of the DC community. The vendors are always pleasant, the market always has great foods, especially for those people that like to buy bulk fresh meat and package themselves. Lots of art, clothes, vintage, and antiques available as well. You will stay busy walking, sightseeing, and shopping.
Wonderful market in the heart of the city. We have come on other visits as well. It is smaller than other markets around the country but combined the outdoor flea market it offers many nice options for fresh produce, meats, desserts, gifts, prepared foods (Cuban sandwich, fish breakfast, Korean dumplings, and outdoor ones as well). There is an open hall next to the market with some tables and is used for performances as well. The Eastern Market Metro station makes it easy to get to. It's a great place for families to visit and to bring visitors. The bathrooms have an adequate number of spaces and are well maintained.
My favorite place to get fresh food. From fresh baked cookies to raw food this is the best place to shop. The parking sucks bring your money to pay for parking is the best option.
Nice meat vendors. Went during quarantine and vendors were extremely grateful for the traffic. Got a weeks worth of ground beef, steaks, chicken, sausage. Would go again for sure.
A good place to travel if you're new to the metropolitan area.
There's no real variety. You'll find the same stuff at your local giant. Why is DC such a fake city??
Small. Few vendors. Not a working market but something transitioning into a touristy destination. Pass.
Great market. The food is always fresh. The fruit and veggies are my aisles of choice. Its always so fresh and ready to be eaten.
There is a great fish market, meat, and poultry stores. The cheese store is excellent. And Market Lunch serves very good breakfasts and lunches. All this and more, a one stop shop.
This is more something worth walking through if your close more than a destination option. Great indoor market and on the weekends has a great flea market outside. I am glad we walked through as I picked up a blanket scarf I've been thinking about for a while.
The weekend vendors have something for everyone. We always find something we didn't know we were looking for and meet so many interesting people. The food carts and local restaurants are worth the trip alone.
The market itself was a bit disappointing for tourists. Ok if you want some expensive meat.
Must-see if you are into amazing food and market bazaar's.
Lots of different vendors with unique items. I purchased an incredible Tibetan yak wool wrap and found an item similar on Amazon for the same price. I would rather support local artisans and vendors. Great fresh meat and produce as well. Interesting place to spend some time browsing. Parking was a little rough though.
Beautiful and quaint. There's always something new to find here.
My favorite place for unique gifts. A little bit of everything- art, clothing, antiques, home decor, accessories, food... A fun way to spend a weekend afternoon.
The wait was reasonable, they had most of everything I wanted.
I Live in North Carolina came to visit and I love this Eastern Market
Pretty cool spot. Lots of hand made items and nifty jewelry
Such a fun and at least sorta productive way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Track down the guys selling mint limeade out there and you will not regret it. It's fresh, tangy, and absolutely delicious.
Not very large, I wouldn't go super out of my way to go there, but comfortable walk from library of Congress. Pancakes are not sold after 1.30pm, take note!
Great place to visit.glad they have good Covid procedures in place
Nice place. I had a wonderful breakfast there. The French toast here is the best. This market has a stand inside where you can see farmers products like cheese, meats, vegetables, fresh flowers and fresh fruit .. etc.
Comparing to others this market is bit small, few providers and limited choices
Looks cool. We weren't there on a market day so things were quiet.
A real market with real food, not only for tourists. Meat sold looks fresh and of reasonable price.
Wonderful market. A tidy mix of art, flea market items, farmers, food purveyors, and hot food. Easy to reach via public transit.
There was something there for everyone.... Part food market, part flea market, part craft market. People from all walks of life were there browsing, shopping, and having lunch.
great place! You can ding anything you need for meals, love to stop in here
Interesting stuff for sale 4 sure. Get it while it's hot or cold. Endless hours of looking. I feel bad for those that don't see....outside of their path.
Excellent mix of cultures, food and ware. Reasonable prices, delicious foods. Come hungry!
Such a variety of good healthy ests. Trying to change eating habits for the good...then this is the PLACE
Attended Fox 5 Ziptrip..always wanted to stop at Eastern market but was discouraged with parking...caught the metro train down and itwas pleasant
Still open. Great to support local businesses during these trying times.
Years ago this place was a near abandoned husk of a place. Now, it has been revitalized and is filled with shops and people. Especially when the street market is open, it is a great way to spend some time.
Large market with many vendors all year round- antiques, maps, clothing, jewelry, and produce straight from the farm. Indoor and outdoor section with plenty to explore. Good place to bring with friends and families visiting. Lots of restaurants close-by as well.
Definitely best to go on a weekend when all the vendors are outside. You've got some great food stands, antiques, art, and miscellaneous in between. Great options for a nice cold drink during the summer.
Very good selection of everything you can imagine in a an open market. I loved the samples of produce.
Always a pleasure to visit Eastern Market. We were in town for the weekend, and since it was Easter, we decided to go there instead of fighting for brunch reservations. We were disappointed that the inside was closed, but the street vendors were out in force with good food and crafts. We even stopped into an establishment for a beer and a nosh, and enjoyed some people watching from our bar stools. No complaints here!
Where every vender with whom we talked was as friendly as a good neighbor.
Great shops inside and outside. Especially enjoyed the bakery inside. Their sandwiches and bakery items are very good.
Eastern Market has a good selection of arts and crafts with a DC vibe and feel. There are also stands with fruits and vegetables which are grown locally when in season. Inside you can find meats and cheeses and handmade salads and pastas and a few places to eat. There are a decent amount of places to eat around the area as well. It's a great place to spend the afternoon or morning on a Saturday or Sunday.
Nice atmosphere to stroll through from one place to the next
Wonderful classic old city market. Best quality meats - even prime cuts. Fresh fish and poultry too. Even a sausage monger! Veggies and pastries and a grocer as well.
Very popular eatery, plus scads of small venders outside selling everything from hand knits and crochet items, jewelry, clothes, you name it. Just go for the browse and experience, but you will find something great to buy and enjoy!
I went here to get food from Zoe's Vegan Delight. Her food is amazing. I wait all week and fight for parking just to walk and get her food at Eastern Market
Great vibe on the weekends. All the staff at the various indoor stands really know their meats/cheeses/breads
Great historic market. Food flowers veggies vendors and art!
Nice place to buy good food and do some shopping on Sundays
This place is just a small indoor market.
I parked at Trader Joe s (90mins free) and walk one block to Eastern Market.
Nothing special..I ended up shopping at TJ where I parked.
I heard it s pretty during summer. I will look forward to come again when weather is nice for outdoor store tables.
Great options for fresh food and local produce. Lively on the weekends.
Most stations were up to par. Wanted desperately a seaweed salad that was on sale at one station. Picked it up to purchase. I initially did not look at it carefully. As I was about to pay, there was a large section on top that unmistakably had "a quarter" size of mold on top. Although there were many other salads and items on display, I notified the owner and passed on everything else at that station. I have found that products are not moving as quickly during the quarantine and spoilage is a common problem. Not just here. Caution to shoppers--choose and inspect your perishables carefully. The heat wave we are having and COVID quarantines (that allow food to set longer on the shelf) make it very important to check all food closely. I'm still a fan of Eastern market but a cautious one.
Always fun place with fresh fruit and vegetables; great vendors as well. A little space with the virus this week.
My favorite place in DC, although the changes. Yet original vendors and friendly beings, overall.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, and great pretzels. Its worth to check out
The true authenticity is the lasting. The newer folks after the parking lot was turned into condos are such blah blah blah.
The place is very clean, and customer service was very excellent.
Eastern Market is one of South East District of Columbia's greatest treasures.
What a wonderfully diverse outdoor market. Its huge! We loved how we got to pick up fresh steaks, corn, peppers, apples, pears, a purple hand-made wooden toy car, and eat sugar pretzels with fresh lemonade. All in the same visit. There was even a small band playing inside when we went this past month. Everyone was very friendly.
Friendly vendors with a wide array of goods to gander at. I'm a fan of local craftmanship, second hand clothing, and locally grown/cooked food. Reccomend bringing reusable bags to shop with. The market is set in a historic neighborhood - half indoor and half outdoor. Street parking in the residential area around the market on the weekend is spotty, but not impossible. The outdoor and indoor sections are accessible by wheel chair and stroller. People do bring their dogs and it can be a little cramped in the indoor portion. But overall it's a great DC market.
This open market is small, but nice. It's a nice distraction from visiting museums and monuments. It is located near the museums so you could certainly do both in the same day. It is, however, not on the same level as open European markets.
Eastern Market in the weekend is Amazing with the farmers from nearby with there fresh juicy fruit & veggies b all p pesticide free! Juicy peaches, plums, tomatoes, cucumbers. And woeful benders selling everything from hand made jewelry, soaps juices! Come on down every weekend till 5pm, you won't be disappointed!
This was such an awesome place. We went for the Sunday morning market and found tons of awesome stuff from the vendors. Had some great food and drinks and loved browsing and sampling the fresh produce.
Hands down 'the' farmers market of DC. It's been in operation for over 100 years, survived two fires, and is still going strong. Many of the vendors are family owned and local, and it's still the best place to go on the weekend for that farmers market experience. Lots of stalls, tons of vendors selling literally almost everything you can think of, and great food options.
First visit and was on a mission to find a certain cheese. Mission accomplished but didn't spend much more time there. Will be going back though. Too many good smells, looks and things to try. You could easily spend a couple of hours browsing.
From the inside marketplace to the vendors outside, Eastern Market is a place that has something for everyone.
The marketplace has a wide variety of meats, cheeses, seafood, baked goods/breads, prepared foods, and also houses a small restaurant - Market Lunch (which ironically makes a great breakfast). Just outside, local farmers/vendors sell fresh and delicious fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Oh, and don't forget to check out the mini-donuts outside, on the North side of the market, as well as grab freshly-squeezed lemonade (I do this every time I go; it's basically a tradition of mine). Check out Big Poppa for some delicious kettle-cooked popcorn!
There are also a bunch of vendors that sell their crafts, mainly to the East of the market, in a nearby parking lot. You can find art, furniture, jewelry, clothes, antiques, soaps, and a whole lot more from all the vendors here on the weekend. All the vendors I've engaged with have been extremely nice, and you can tell that most of them take pride in the items they sell. It's a great place to go look for art/photos/maps to hang up in your home.
It's a shame that I don't live closer, as I'd love to come every weekend!
I love the fresh fruits that they have, Inwish the inside market was open. I love the vendors that sell jewelry and clothing as well.
Always a good weekend Street vendor spot! I looove the vibe! Been going since I was a wee tot.
Great! First time in a few years since I had been in Eastern Market and the experience was very good. Found several really good meat and produce vendors. Got lots of good meats and treats to take home to ring in the new year all day.
Old style market with each section having its own specialty such as baked goods, fresh veggies, and meats.
I went in on a Saturday morning at about 9am and an outdoor market was starting to set up. Not sure if they are usually there but they had unique items like jewelry and art
Excellent place for food, arts & crafts. Inside vendor at west corner has excellent paella and crab cakes.
The food was great, but I would not recommend going to the eastern market because of the thieves in the area. They stole my wallet while I was busy feeding my 3 kids. These people are monsters! They stole everything we had. They drove straight to Falls Church, VA Target. They used all of our cards, charging a total of almost $3000. The sad thing is that DC police and VA police department will give you the run around and make it really difficult to follow up on your case. I actually had to call Target to see if they had any footage of the thief, and Targets fraud department was very helpful in pulling all of the footage. Too bad the police doesn't seem to care to catch the perpetrator. So be very careful because this guy is still out there. He is a black male between the age of 30 to 40 years old.
It's like a fancy flea market with your usual jewelry, art, food, and misc vendor tents. A good selection of cafes line both sides if the street.
