Florida Virtual School is such a great way to get your classes done and faster. I'm in high school and I needed to take Geometry my sophomore year but I took FLVS over the summer so I don't have to take it during school.

I originally came to FLVS Flex for homeschooling due to health problems that I was having. My experience with Flex, as a senior close to graduation, has been an extremely stressful one that continues to take a toll on my health. The classes are extensive and consists of waaaay more assessments than they need. 99% of these assessments are also essays and projects, meaning they take a longer time for me to complete. Multiplied by 3 (I'm close to finishing 3 classes) and I am beyond exhausted. It's really not the assessments that bother me, although I do believe they should reduce the amount of them that are projects and essays, it's the DBA's and persistence of the teachers that starts to become a problem. One of my classes alone has me doing NINE dbas. It is beyond ridiculous the amount of DBA's they have me doing. Not to mention how stressful they are because guess what? You're left in the dark in terms of what is going to be asked. You're essentially supposed to memorize an ENTIRE MODULE for these things. I also don't understand why there are so many. The whole thing just drives my anxiety through the roof.

I'm honestly more exhausted than I was when I first started. This entire experience has and continues to take a toll on my health, especially with all the stress I'm experiencing. I honestly wouldn't recommend FLVS to anyone. They need to seriously take a step back and re-evaluate some things.

And before FLVS messages me saying they're sorry to hear about my experience, please, just take my advice and literally the advice of hundreds of others and find a way to make the experience a more comfortable one. It doesn't matter how many times we express to our teachers that DBA's make us uncomfortable etc. they will still continue to make us extremely anxious and stressed out. I know that they're required by the state of Florida but you need to set a max per class and semester. Nine DBA's for one class is just too much. Teacher's also need to understand that their class is not our only class, I have teacher's constantly messaging me telling me I need to hurry and finish. I have a ton of other homework to do for my classes as well as some other things. I don't have all day to just sit down and work.

Sorry for the rant but, for the thousandth time, it needed to be said how important it is that FLVS take into consideration the voice of the student's. Which by the looks of it they have completely failed to do.

Mrs. O Keefe has been amazing as the teacher of my daughter s personal fitness class. My daughter has not been very responsible for her classwork and Mrs. O Keefe is wonderful about helping her succeed. I couldn t appreciate that more. She has been a pleasure to work with. Thank you so much.

FLVS has truly allowed me to excel even though I face limitations. I struggle with severe chronic illness among other health obstacles which has made it literally impossible to keep up with attendance for normal high school standards. Last year I made the jump and decided to do FLVS full-time. Through FLVS I have been able to succeed in being a straight A student with a high GPA as well as getting involved with 3 clubs and giving me extra time to volunteer in a local middle school classroom weekly (If I'm up to it that day). Even though I face some difficulties some time and there are small things that aren't perfect, any highschooler would tell you the same thing regardless of what school they go to. FLVS has even opened doors for me to attend events like National School Choice week and Debate Meets. I am truly indebted to this school for all the efforts and dedication the staff make so students like myself and others can have the perfect school plan for each individual.

Teachers here are very kind and patient. They are efficient and the courses are set up well. thumbs up 5/5 But i still support actual private or public school 100% nothing is better then real school and real social experiences. online school is not a walk in the park. if you go to school you go and get it over with with an organized set of instructions. make online school your last possible option for it will bring a struggle in the present and in the future

As a traditional homeschooling parent, I began using FLVS at the high school level to pull some of the planning off my plate. Now on year 3 and kid #2 moving into their classes I have to say I have been pleasantly pleased. I've found the teachers exceptionally good at what they do, responsive at both the teacher and admin level-when we've had a rare issue. Both my kids continue to score well above their grade level on standardized tests so it definitely gets the job done. Is it for everyone NO, but then what education style is for everyone. If your child puts forth a good effort and you as the parent are diligent about sure they are maintaining the pace then they will be successful.

Ms. Rebecca Podany for A.P U.S is rude to her A.P students. I understand being a little strict to push your students to do better, but she thinks we must know everything perfectly and basically be robots that can recite 300-400 pages worth of information every 2 weeks for one module. If you make a mistake during a DBA, she yells "NOOOOO!". She always has an attitude and is completely different via FLVS message vs. during DBA calls. I needed help at the beginning of the school year to navigate the FLVS course, and it was over a phone call so of course I couldn't clearly understand what she meant. But of course, she has to start raising her loud voice at me and giving me an attitude. The course is online, and it is all self learning. No lectures, no group discussions, no nothing. Of course I am going to be confused about several things, or freeze up during DBA's when I study one area and she asks me something I don't even remembering reading. Or the best part. "an addition." There are things we have to know that is not in the text book, but rather a building block. Fun! ;( According to another student in the class, she gets mad easily because she "teaches" many classes and gets frustrated from being busy all the time. Either way, she should still learn to be nice and polite, as she is just scaring her students, which causes them to get afraid of her and not ask meaningful educated questions.
This is the only teacher though who I have had that I absolutely dread. I have had other classes, with fantastic teachers who are so kind and helpful. Sorry, but Ms. Podany dramatically reduced my liking for FLVS. One thing about FLVS is for sure: The classes are either wayyyy toooo easy or wayyyyyy tooooo difficult!

I have had such a positive experience with FLVS. I currently have two children enrolled in FLVS Flex. In my opinion, Ms. Kranz is the best FLVS teacher any of my children have ever had. I love her feedback and encouragement. She is very clear in what she wants my son to do, and I have been very pleased with his progress.

OMG this course caused me to have an a brain aneurysm. It is really hard and not worth it. Half the class became depressed after we finished it. Drop the course and do yourself a favor.

Teachers hand out assignments like candy on Halloween leaving me with no free time at home causing anxiety as well. You would think with 2,400 reviews and still only 2.5 stars something would be changed it's actually pretty sad. Choosing this school was the biggest regret of my life. Some days take 2 times longer then regular school days. Nothing is being done about the complaints. Horrible customer service as well. I am not getting enough sleep every night. They made this sound like the best option but really it was the worst and now i'm stuck doing this virtual school for the entire semester. It's supposed to be flexible but if you don't turn in a assignment past 7 days the teachers start blowing up your phone about it even though work doesn't have to be submitted by 5 PM on Friday which is also ridiculous because with the amount of work they give you it's hard to have all of it turned in by 5 PM. Something needs to be changed even though sadly nothing will. The 5 star reviews are people who got very lucky with there classes. It infuriates me that they are aloud to make work 20x harder than a brick and motor school. An investigation needs to be done and something needs to be changed!

It is very unorganized and they give you NO time at all to learn the lesson!! This does not help anyone! I learned nothing at all. The teachers are very nice though but its very confusing and they done write there problems well which makes it very confusing.

FLVS has been one of the worst, most stressful, most time consuming waste of technology I have ever had to experience. I'm in 11th grade and decided that it would be a good idea to enroll in FLVS full time, just for this year, to get caught up in all of my classes. Basically, they tell you that you can work at your own pace AS LONG AS you complete 4 assignments per week. That may not seem like a lot but taking 7 classes that all require 4 assignments per week while also having to literally teach yourself ALL of the material, because the teachers are pretty much useless, can be very stressful. They ever answer phone calls but they sure do have time to send borderline threatening and harassing texts multiple times throughout the week about late work. If your don't turn in the required amount of work, you will kicked out of your class. I was kicked out twice, with no warning. I just logged in one day to see that my class, that I was over 70% completed in, was gone and all of my work, quizzes, assignments, tests, DBA's, were all deleted and now I have to do them all over again, for a new teacher. I have been in public, private, and charter schooling in my life and FLVS is by far the worst schooling experience I have ever had.

FLVS Flex is extremely difficult on my schedule and time. I'm taking the HOPE class (because it is a required credit for my school), and no one contacted me about when to begin or call anyone until more than half the summer was over. Now I have to do everything in a rush, and if I don't finish it once summer ends, I won't get the credits I need to graduate. I also went on many trips towards the end of July, and I'm going to travel in August as well. :T I'm not so satisfied with the way they plan things out.

Takes over an hour to contact any teacher or anyone from the support phone number I remember having to wait around 4 hours while listening to the terrible ear shattering piano music which they need to change or honestly improve the audio quality on. Lastly it's done nothing but cause my whole family stress to the point where we almost left the school because of how poorly service it had.

My French 1 course would be impossible if it weren't for my previous French classes. A French 1 course should be introductory and teach you all the basics, but they haven't even covered je, toi, vous, etc (I can't remember the rest of the pronouns). They leave many things uncovered and ask you questions that they have never told you the meaning of without having told you any of the vocab either. Even with 2 previous French classes (I'm taking this as a review) I struggle, I can only imagine how hard it must be for someone with no experience. And that isn't even the only issue, assignments are confusing and the process to turn them in even more so. It took me a week to figure out how to turn in assignments. If I'm being honest they don't even deserve one star. If I could, I'd give them negative stars.

i like it because it is much harder than public school but that is because in public school i don't learn much but in flvs i do learn properly although sometimes i wish i came back to my old school because i don't really talk to kids anymore and there are some classes that stress me so flvs has pros and cons.

The glaring flaw with the FLVS is that all the courses try to hard to incorporate computer programs into the course work. There is no need to make someone spend half a day downloading java and adobe programs to complete one 25 point assignment.

I can describe FLVS in just two words. It sucked. Im a freshman going to high school and I didn't do too well in algebra so I decided to do it again on FLVS and every time I requested it, first it would take weeks for my "counselor" accept it and when they did it was dropped. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Florida Virtual School made it so difficult to complete a core class online that I had to take it through ACE in order to help my GPA because my teacher was worthless. Also, I had been working on a class for 6 months and was in the 2nd semester of it and I had to have surgery so I was out of commission for a few days and unable to sit at a computer desk for a few hours and all I had left was a DBA and the Final Exam and I was taken out of the course. So my advice for you would be to not take FLVS, just do good in school because you will not learn anything.

Worst Program EVER. Seriously, if you enjoy having to do way more work than you would in normal school, talking to teachers every month over the phone (which is extremely terrifying), taking tests that are nothing like the lessons, and basically learning nothing since you're always rushing through so you don't fall behind, then this program is for you! But seriously, please don't enroll in this, I regret it so much. I miss public schooling. FLVS IS THE WORST!

I am glad FLVS was only for my boys PE. The class started late. That means be started out behind. The PE class is not what I thought it would be. Its alot of reading and writing . Not much into PE . My boy is an ESE student that needs time and understanding on what he can do. I had to talk to Valusia online to see if they could talk to the teacher about his ese because FLVS does not respond. The amount of writing and yes math he needs to do and understand in the little time he has to comprehend is just too much. I started to rush him to get the work out and the teacher was not very nice . Sending emails back saying he was making answers up and so on.I guess he sent his papers out to him on a bad day? I ask the PE teacher what he needed to redo one of the papers he put a 0 on and I have not got an answer back yet. This is stressful for my son and me. He did his best. Also Why so much reading and writing? If I known it was like this I would had signed him up for something else. Its a non core class

Earlier this year I made a 2 star review basically saying that I started late and my teachers were forcing me to do school work on my own personal time, but I decided to make a new review of how I am doing now. First off, I am a student here at flvs, so I'm the one dealing with this. When you go to school there's certain things you want, for instance, a nice learning teacher and being on pace. For me, certain teachers I have are ok, depending on who you get, but one teacher, not going to say who, is late submitting my work. I submitted my work 1 month ago still hasn't been graded, plus I am really behind pace and need help. Moving on, being behind pace is more likely going to happen to you. You get around 40 assignments per segment, which you have TWO segments and also SIX classes half of the time, making it hard to be on pace. I dont care for the school to be honest, however my guidance counselor has been trying to help and she has and I am very glad about that. I'm giving flvs a 3 star rating because of the help I have been getting, but I can't bring myself to give them a 4 or 5 star rating, they just haven't earned it yet. Hopefully my review has helped you learn about flvs.

I have been in FLVS part-time from 6th grade to 10...

I have been in FLVS part-time from 6th grade to 10th grade and then I switched to full time my 11th grade year. I'm a senior now and I have been LOVING FLVS so much.

The DIFFERENCE between Part-time and Full-time is that Part time you can do public school and FLVS for certain classes. While Full-time FLVS is where it's a public school program with a graduation ceremony and everything(With part-time you don't have to do any of the mandatory state tests that you have to pass because you don't actually graduate; you take a test like the GED test and get your FL diploma through that.)

The teachers are amazing, the pace of work that I get is perfect, and the lessons are fully detailed and if you don't get it you can always call your teacher for one on one help. All the classes on FLVS part-time AND full-time have at least 1 live lesson per week and they actually help you with your assignments and everything! If you are tired of public school because of horrible teachers, tired of being bullied or being in a drama filled environment, you for sure what to try this out.

BUT I'm just putting this out there, sometimes this kind of thing isn't for everyone. You have to be committed and make sure that you have a separate time for school and a separate time for fun things online like Tumblr, Facebook, You-tube, and other social media sites because it is VERY EASY TO GET BEHIND ON YOUR SCHOOL WORK. I hope that my input helps some people out there that wanted to know more about FLVS.

I'm currently taking Algebra 2 virtually which is so much easier than taking it in real life. You can always review the lessons you want which you can't necessarily really do at school and you can start working whenever you want and as do as much as you want every week as long as it's more than 4 assignments/a week. This is a lot more comfortable because you can reed the lesson and copy down the notes at your own pace.

i recommend this program like people that in my situation going tell a story so i was in the 9th grade and i got sent to a military school with my brother both me and my brother didn't want to be there so we escaped and probable a day or 2 we stole a truck put anyways we got caught about a week later and got sent to jail for 3 years because we tried running from the cops and GTA any way if you were in a bad situation like how i was and dont have any credits for high school this is a great idea to do it so you can graduate in my opinion its not for kids that are just getting bulled for kids that are way behind in there credits like how i was

I took an Algebra 1 course to receive extra credit...

I took an Algebra 1 course to receive extra credit, and I have to say it was terrible idea. The course itself was pretty good and I was working at a C-B grade, but my teachers were absolutely terrible, they withdrew me from the course simply because I had little contact with them. Whenever I tried to contact my teachers they would never answer the phone, and whenever they tried to contact me it was within ridiculous hours. They tried to contact me whilst I was in school or late at night.

I started FLVS under certain health circumstances,...

I started FLVS under certain health circumstances, it wasn't a choice I wanted, but had to be done. FLVS began pretty easy with attaining 3 assignments a week per course. However, then I got to the middle of the first semesters and things began to slow down and the pressure was rising. Teachers are nice, but hard to reach some times. I always would call, email, and text to make sure they get my message. They end up responding a day or two after when I no longer need the help. Assignments are long, pointless, and do not help me learn. I am not saying this because I do not want to do the work, but because I don't learn from it. It basically goes: read lesson, struggle do assignment, and forget. Because it got tougher, it caused a major strain in my personal life with my parents and this situation did not help at all with my health. I would get withdrawn from classes because I did not submit the minimum three. I understand you need to work, but I wanted to work at my own pace. That was the whole reason of the homeschooling with FLVS in the first place. I do not think that should be their saying as it is very deceiving. My health has been all over the place, arguments daily with my parents. Nothing good has come out of FLVS. I have always been an A/B student with all honors. My parents have always expected only the best from me. Now, i'm getting C's D's and even F's because I just don't understand the way they teach. I guess i'm just used to traditional schooling. I stand today still finishing my last course with major issues trying to maintain a B. Unfortunately I haven't learned a thing all year because the stress with the problems this has caused is too distracting. The point is, unless you want huge stress, and even more health issues, and your relationship with your parents to go down hill, do NOT do FLVS.

I did HOPE. Don't let the name fool you, as there is none. The instructor is nice enough, but due to a misunderstanding, I'm hopelessly far behind. Most of the info is also just busywork and painfully obvious. Until you get to the exams, that is. Half of the questions involve some vague and misinterpretatable scenario where you have to infer most of the information.

they flippin suck......I cant get my GPA for ninth grade because of them and then when I called the people they hung up in my face because I'm guessing they didn't want to look in the data base that they "work" on everyday.... I HATE IT!!!! and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. On top of that the teachers suck and don't email you back until the week after you sent the message. They don't help you understand lessons you dont understand. AND the way they make their algebra text book is horrible.......Worse thing that someone could come up with.Ughhhh its making me madder talking about. Just take it from me your better off somewhere else because it sucks

EDIT: Not a fan of the new updates. Kicks me out of the class if I'm idle for 20 minutes... I find that annoying, since for some of the longer lessons, it takes me a bit to scroll through it or I'll have to be multitasking. Not impressed.

Decent. Last year they were amazing, the teachers, everything. They acted professionally as one should expect and didn't mark me off for little things as most public schools would. The club part of it had never gotten back to me however, but thats no big deal. Well, this year so far hasn't been so great. It states welcome calls are able to be made with a child then later set up with a parent at a separate time. Let me tell you this, my teacher didn't accept that. He claimed he found it "kinda dumb" to do that, although we could not be there at the same time. He dropped me from the class right after that call, not giving me a chance to reschedule. However, that is the teachers fault. I'm really giving it three stars because its been a few weeks and they still have not assigned me to a teacher! I am currently only in math and french courses, the other four I need have not been assigned to me! I clicked to start the next day but yet that did not happen. I would mind not if it had only been one week, but as said its been a few already, waiting to be assigned. It's decent for online schooling, but obviously needs work.

The website is not user friendly at all and the submitting process is a mess sometimes. I do a science course and the end of module exams locks me out very quickly. So I have to contact my teacher and ask her to unlock the exam; this process takes a couple of days. By the time I can finally access the test, several days have already past and the test is still not finished. I feel that the module exams should not lock the student out and should be available at all times. The DBA s are also very weird and uncomfortable.

I moved away from public school to have a better opportunity in Flvs, but boy was I wrong. I am becoming more stressed, depressed, and tired, just because of FLVS. I have to sacrifice my happiness in order to stay on pace and get work done. Why do you guys Advertise "Work at your own pace" but I have to turn in an average of 20-21 assignments per week? The "teachers" are very proffesional but the amount of work is cruel. DBA's are nothing like the lesson, they always ask questions that have nothing to do with the lesson. I have no life entirely because I am siting behind this computer for almost 30 hours a week and I have no breaks or weekends off. I am very disappointed with this, but atleast drivers ed is easy as well.

so bad

FLVS provides the opportunity of fulfilling graduation requirements, improving a low grade in a class and doing so in the time that one desires. Very flexible for everyone and the website performs excellently.
I love taking my online classes through FLVS, it provides me the opportunity of completing classes that I like and classes in which I desire to better improve my grade from the one I got in school. :)

I really enjoy FLVS. So far, I am taking three classes over the summer: Latin 1, Geometry Honors, and HOPE. The teachers are incredibly accommodating and supportive, the courses are easy to navigate, and the work is easy to understand. The teachers are always on hand to help, and there are a lot of resources that I can use. Overall, I have had a very good experience.

I do not believe the negativity with FLVS, it is a wonderful way to learn and earn your credits online. I am on my 22nd course with FLVS after about 5 years in the part time program. It is very easy to relate to the course and teachers. They only ask for three assignments!!?! That's not even that much. The classes I have taken since middle school have been very joyful and I liked all of my teachers. The people are very sweet at FLVS and they also understand that I also have a very busy schedule and may not be able to submit so much at many times. I would definitely not only recommend FLVS but make that person take a course with FLVS!

Our granddaughter is visiting us (her grandparents) out of state and tried to log in to her FLVS Flex account. She was unable to login and needed technical support. She called the 800 number listed, and was told she was caller number 98. She was on hold for SIX HOURS AND 3 MINUTES and still had 23 people ahead of her when all of a sudden at the 6 hour and 3 minute mark she got hung up on by FLVS. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!! Right after, we called again and the recording said to leave a message and press 9. We did that and the recording said it didn't recognize that as a valid entry. I sure hope that something is done with this very poor customer service from FLVS.

I've been doing FLVS For maybe more 6 months or so (left orignal school due to bulllying and other problems) and let me just say it isn't all that its talking about, because honestly, its been challenging to do 4 or more assignments per week (for full time) only because sometimes only 1 assignment can take a whole day and they should lessen the work load on you to be honest. The teachers are there to help sometimes, but most of the time I don't understand their explanations. I've been struggling to keep up with all the assignments that I have due FROM 6 CLASSES. Also I don't like the "first come, first served" thing they do with their classes (i.e I wanted to take history but instead they gave me spanish because they couldn't give me history anymore, so I had to take a leadership skills development class) Another thing, can there please be more than 2 languages? I don't want to do spanish, or french. Other than all that it's an okay school, I hope I pass to next year

My Experience with FLVS has been a mixed bag. Some classes I have taken where very fun and I learned something, While in other classes the learning experience has been bad for a variety of different reasons. While sometimes the reason for my bad learning experience has been my teachers, there are other times where the material itself did not make any scene, but my teachers did all they could to help.

So here is my rule of thumb for FLVS, if the class is absolutely critical (This is not so much a problem with English, But Math and Science), or foreign languages, Do not take it with FLVS, because my experience with FLVS in those subjects could be summed up as "Throwing tons of information at you, and expecting you to make heads and tails of it". While some of the teachers are very nice, and will bend over backwards to help you and get you finished with their class, there are others who will give you the cold shoulder.

That being said, a few classes I would recommend are English (My experience with High School English, more specifically 12th grade English, has been amazing!), Criminal Justice, Law, and Forensic Science for some 'fun' classes. Even if you have no interests in those fields as a future career, they are all very fun, you learn about all kinds of fun stuff, AND they are all easy A's.

And on the flipside of that coin, a few classes I would highly NOT recommended taking through FLVS are any kind of math (I had particularly bad experiences with 7th grade math and high school algebra, but the geometry is OK), Any kind of science (Earth Space Science was a so-so experience, but the chemistry class kicked my butt, and God Bless my teacher for being there when I needed her!), and Latin.

thats not good...
Other accreditations are suspect and not as important. (imo)

Some schools are setup to dispense student loans and that is their primary business. I hope this isn't just another one of those.

do your homework on this school.

the teachers don't contact you when there is a problem they just nock you out of your course and after 3 failed attempts of trying to contact my teacher i don't know what to do. I've been talked to like I'm stupid, if i ask for help i get a generalized response to go to the help page even though i clearly stated in my email that i already did so. this school is so stressful you don't know how much I've procrastinated because i don't understand the work and the"workload" is so much I've literally cried because of it. the reason i did this school is because i have a medical condition that makes it hard for me to go to school. i would rather pass out everyday at my normal school than take this school again!

I have been in FLVS full time for two years now, I chose online school because I was being bullied and had sever social anxiety and was having issues with depression. This school has made it worse, it says you can work at your own pace and for most classes they have 'help' pages but none of it worked for me, I was always too busy and I've been kicked from 4+ classes and it will be on my record for a while, I've been held back a year because of FLVS. In this school you have to take care of your own legal matters like manuscripts and ect, if you're looking for a good online school I suggest K12. I am switching soon.

Trash website, trash program and trash staff. Avoid, it isn't worth it. Please find something with better credibility as this have been one of the worst educational experience I have probably ever had.
