I was and still am a student at Florida Virtual School. The teachers are amazing. My Latin teacher, Ms. Blackwell, is amazing. Their feedback on grading and response time is really fast (1-2 days). I am pleased to be an FLVS student! If you're unsure about something within the course, their tech support number is just an extension of the great teachers! I love you guys :) Edit: I'd also like to point out all my other teachers for FLVS as well! I don't have enough space to name you all, but everyone gets a heart!

Couldn't sign up for a month during summer classes because of how horribly the website is designed, and now have a ton of assignments on top of regular classes.
Pros - You can somewhat work at your own pace. - For the most part you can stay in your own home. - You aren't ALWAYS in a social environment.
Cons - Pretests, Tests taken in a real school, and DBA's are unnecessary. - Work at your own pace is a lie. You're still bound to a schedule. - Hard to focus on school when there's so much more you could do.
Not the worst school, Definitely beats my previous public school but has horrendous flaws.
We are SO grateful for FLVS. I have three boys in three separate grades here, and they flourish with this award winning curriculum and their wonderful teachers who rock with communication! My kids learn SO much and are able to get ahead of pace and make their own schedules and it gives us all so much freedom to travel and do what we like. I graduated a year early by going through FLVS when I was a teenager. This school is the first of its kind, with 20 years of experience, and they're awesome at what they do. This school is best for children who are self-disciplined and eager to learn!
I attend FLVS full time and love it! I do follow the pace charts to stay on time with assignments but I work at my own speed and time through the week. I like how I feel I have more time to work on everything and I can replay the recorded lessons and pause when I need to take notes. All of my teachers get back to me pretty quick.
Terrible software. It's a real hassle uploading with 3rd party software rather than through the course itself. If you fall behind, you're screwed since it's extremely awkward trying to upload work.
Worst experience ever every single time I find a teacher they are either accusing you of cheating or they are messaging you like crazy it s very annoying and teachers are very rude on flvs I Think nobody should waste there time with this teachers are the worst on here but when it comes to dbas there are always issues I am a Special Ed student and they treated me like I was a real student and teachers would argue with me and more I literally hate virtual school with flvs is terrible this system needs to shut down because teachers are causing so many issues and not letting you finish fast hope nobody gets in this hole your gonna put yourself in
This is my second year taking FLVS and at first I hated it so much. The workload was way too much and I didnt know all the tools the site had to offer. After working through it and just getting by, I learned that the teachers are very nice and are trying to help you. So far, I've had a pretty good experience with FLVS.
The layout is terrible and the website was horribly designed. Assignments and lessons are spread out bizzarely, logging in is a hassle, the assignments are not built around being online (they insist you upload assignments separately rather than have it directly feed in through the lessons), and the third-party lessons are awkwardly integrated. Why do I need to do a journal to show that I'm learning driver's ed if I'm already taking tests from the course at every stage which are graded? Because more busy work looks better. The website is clunky, the tutorials for using it are outdated and no longer apply, instructions for use everywhere contradict themselves (copy answers in student comments on the submit page, everywhere else says to type it separately and upload it), and from every single person I've met who's used this, none of them learned anything, even the people who liked it. My friend took Latin 1 and 2 on flvs, and he wasn't able to write the kinds of sentences we did our first week in Latin 1 in school. The teachers are naturally mixed bag, but between a frustrating layout, poor directions, clumsy and unnecessary restrictions, and the fact that the whole thing is a mess of confusion, is damning enough without the failure to teach after all of it.
(I KNOW IT'S A LOT BUT BEAR WITH ME! THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!!!) I'm a current student at FLVS. (I'm in 10th grade and I'm 15.) I've done FLVS in the past before to make up 6th grade math. It was extremely hard but I managed to pass it. I never wanted to actually be in FLVS for actual classes, because I saw a review where a girl's friend killed herself from the stress of FLVS, but here I am taking classes. My mom signed me up for 5 classes and it took her a while to sign me up because of how long it takes to sign up. They kept denying her request and I started school late, so now I'm behind. But, I'm slowly catching up. I already finished one of my classes. Now, the main reason why I'm on here writing a review because of one of my teachers. I'll write his name so you can keep a eye out for him, (if you happen to have him to or get him too). His name is Mr. Lavigne. He was cool and extremely nice at first when I got put into his class but mid way in that's when things started to go bad. Before I explain my problems, YES I DO KNOW THAT HE HAS OTHER STUDENTS AND WORK TO GRADE, NO NEED TO TELL ME THAT. Anyways, it takes him A VERY LONG TIME to respond back to me. I have the screenshots and everything. Like last year, I needed to do a DBA and I contacted him before break. I contacted him on Dec 15 and it took him till Jan 10 to contact me back. Like I could have already been in Segment Two of English 2, (that's what I have him for.) but he keeps stalling and it's like he wants to keep me in his class and not go on to Segment 2. Right now, I have 4 assignments left for Segment 1 and I could easily do those but he has locked 2 of my assignments. On both of the assignments, he told me, 'When would be a good time to talk over the phone about this assignment?' I contacted him on Monday at 10 am and now it's Wednesday and he still hasn't replied yet. I really don't want him to take till next week to contact me back because I can't be in this class any longer, it's taking to much of time. This should NOT be happening. If you ever get Mr. Lavigne SWITCH TEACHERS ASAP. He'll be nice and stuff when ya'll first meet but midway in, you'll be stuck. Oh and by the way, I have a question for FLVS. Are teachers supposed to ask for your address? Because Mr. Lavigne did, he was REALLY persistent about it. When we did the welcome call or one of the DBA's, he kept asking me. (I move a lot so I didn't know my exact address.) I kept telling him I didn't know because I move a lot and he kept repeating his question. When I kept giving him the same answer, he got frustrated and asked to speak to my mom. I gave my mom the phone and I could literally hear him asking for our address. I was EXTREMELY creeped out. The thing that had me worried was that my other teachers NEVER asked for my address. Then I thought maybe it's only the English teachers that have to ask for the student's address. BUT THEN, I REALIZED. I had a English 2 teacher before him. (I got kicked out of her class for unknown reasons) She NEVER asked for my address. Not on the welcome call, NEVER! I was SO creeped out cause my mom end up giving him it. (She thought it was for school purposes). But I end up moving from the address that my mom gave him. Oh and btw the thing situation with the address happened last year. Sometime during the first few weeks of starting English 2. He hasn't asked for it since. That's all.
Edit: I've talked with the lead teacher and she was so nice to me about it. She even answered all my questions, including the one about the teacher asking for your address. Yes, they're supposed to. I forgot the reason why, but when she told me, it made sense. The two assignments he locked, got unlocked and I had to do them over again without getting a graded because he claimed I cheated on it even though I didn't. Anyways, I've completed his class for Segment 1 and I'm soon to be switched out the class into a new one! Thanks for reading!
I graduated from FLVS in 2014 and I can say that is definitely tough but it has prepared me for college quite well. I am grateful for the time where I have to implement self study. If you sign up for this school, expect to work your butt off and don't expect any hand outs. And stop complaining about nonsense. There are tons of resources online to visit when your teacher is not available...
My son has just completed French 2 with Ms. Karen Perlongo (flvs). My son and I value and appreciate Ms. Perlongo. She is a wonderful teacher, truly one of the best! Throughout the duration of this class she's been very dedicated, professional and always was very encouraging and patient with my son. The one on one interaction and the support she provided is just amazing. I wish all teachers were as dedicated and knowledgeable as her! Most often parents tend to rush to write complaints and tend to forget to write when a teacher does a good job. I am writing to commend Ms. Perlongo for being an outstanding teacher!
I want to recognize the superior efforts of one of your Florida Virtual School instructors, Mr. Black. My son has taken several FLVS courses and recently took the Outdoor Education course and enjoyed the content, including earning his certifications and licenses. I really appreciated how Mr. Black structured the class by holding monthly progress reviews for both the student and parents to keep us informed and to push my son to do more work when necessary. Mr. Black took the time to explain the special rules and guidelines for virtual school to me when my son fell behind in his work so that I could also help urge him to make progress. This instructor was VERY available and relatable via email, text and phone, even during Thanksgiving break. My son ended up with a very high score in this class and the various study and response methods made it interesting. Mr. Black is one of the most consistent and interactive instructors my son has ever had.
I would give them a 0 review if I could. I was in Spanish 2 flvs course last year and first of all my school never got any of my info as my teacher had never given them it apparently. Which leaves me to probably have to redo my two years of Spanish and a flvs school class which I am absolutely not doing again. Second of all my teacher was completely rude to me and NEVER called on time for my dbas and she would say she forgot we made an appointment or that she was busy . She gave me a bunch of work and complained when I wouldn t complete it fast enough even though I have my own life and 7 other classes of work to finish(she told me she would kick me out of the class multiple times). I m not sure if all flvs classes are this horrible but I will not be doing any more classes on here as it s the worst thing I ve ever done. There is very bad reviews which should have been my first sign to drop out of this class I guess. Hopefully schools stop making Florida virtual school a necessary course.I have also attempted to get ahold of someone from flvs multiple times and no one ever answers the phone.
I used Flvs since 8th grade and now I am in tenth grade this fall and still using it. I took Algebra 1 and 2, P.E , Criminal Justice, and Driver's ed. This fall Im also gonna take chines 1 and AP stastics. Throuhot the rest of my high school career I am planning on taking more APs and other classes. Im so fornuate to be a Floridan since its free for me.Really recommend this
If only I could give zero stars because this site deserves none. I have always been in standard math so I wished to go up a level. I talked to my principal about what programs I can take and they said I had to take FLVS so I agreed. I thought this wouldn't be that hard but I couldn't believe how wrong I was. When I started out, it was ok but after a week everything came crashing down. I had to keep on top of my assignments while doing the course in which contains vague information of how to do the problems. Most of the time I was copying and pasting the titles of the chapters into Khan Academy and having a teacher from Khan explain it (for a free place for math Khan Academy is incredible by the way). There was sessions where students could collaborate and talk to teacher but you had to wait until 3 chapters (which is 100s of problems). After half a year of staying up to 1am and pulling my hair out I got up, closed the site and texted my teacher I was done and that was that. If you are used to online school then use it but if you are like me and what to know the exact reason why this plus this equals this then just save your self the trouble and go to Khan Academy.
If your looking at the reviews for information to guide your decision whether to enroll or not then please read. I would give Florida Virtual School one star for many reasons(only because I can't give it zero). I'll list the pros and cons below.
Pros - Available from home
Some classes are extremely easy.
Cons - Most of the time teachers don't follow their own rubric. (The course might ask you to define something and when you define it in one sentence they might complain it was not long enough)
IMPORTANT: DBAs (Discussion Based Assesments)... You have to call your teachers every module, be put on the spot and asked questions. Modules can cover from 20 pages to 80 pages on average in core classes. You will be quizzed by your teacher on that information. You cannot accept anything below an 80% on these assignments, in my experience. (5 years of FLVS). You need to know this material or you are at risk of being called a cheater, having to take a test in their office (to prove your not cheating) or taking the DBA again. If you have extreme anxiety here are the core classes DBA difficulty. Electives - easy (probably will not have to look at chapter. Only a few electives are hard.) English - easy (maybe one question of easy information or and asked about one of the assignments you turned in.) History and Science - moderately hard. (Several questions will be asked. In my experience 3-7 questions will be asked. Many can be guessed but some cannot. Quick review over chapter should be fine.) Math - Hard. (Not recommended at all. The DBAs will be hard. Several hours of studying at a chance of success. 3-7 hard questions. Solving long equations usually.
"Work at your own pace" You will be given the option to work in different paces. If you pick regular pace (3+ assignments) will be expected of you every week. If you forget to tell your teacher your going on vacation or simply forget your schedule, you will be at risk of being kicked out of the class.
Collaborations. Every semester you will need to get on a live lesson with other students and teachers. You just pick what everyone else puts and you won't have to do much work. These are usually one hour long assignments.
Teachers. Some are rude.
I do not recommend flvs. You will not get a healthy experience.
Awful. Just plain awful. "Work at your own pace" in itself is a pretty big lie. I'm not going to exaggerate and say that it's just plain awful. The assignments are boring and sometimes require money. Yeah. for English 1, you have to buy a book. Not that expensive but at least in public school, you're given a copy for FREE. There's no "Free PDF download", except for one book, the rest comes out of your pocket. And if you can't buy the book, and read it WHILE taking your other classes, you fail English, and if you re-enroll, it's back to square one. The assignments.. don't even get me started on the assignments. Imagine a 1 hour song that's just one repeating note. Not a chord, just a note. The assignments are bland, dull and there's one for every lesson, with very few exceptions. Don't do virtual school. You're better off going to public school and wearing socks and sandals that taking virtual school.
I don't enjoy the course, the career research and design course is very sloppily made, and while rummaging through my old lessons, i found countless spelling errors and repeated words. the lessons were hard to understand, as well as long and tedious to go through. its almost like it was written in notepads and pasted onto the website. that being said, the course was passable, even though the lessons were riddled with repeat questions and questions that assumed things about you (example: 1. Define your problem related to your college or career goals. [3.04]) and a whole myriad of other problems. my teacher was ready and reliable though, even though the only use the course gave him was either grading or doing DBAs, so i felt bad for him. because of doing this course, i was able to take another elective instead of what would've been my most boring class, so i believe it is worth all the trials and tribulations. (and if you are reading this, please don't respond with your usual spchiel about how i should report it to the Facebook or how i might be the problem, because its not a solution to any of the problems with your website
I love learning, I like to learn new things everyday but I have to say that I hate FLVS. The teaching is not efficient, it is so easy to cheat on a test, my classmates do it all the time.
I wont even rate this because at your own pace isn't at your own pace its at the pace your teacher wants and if you put a pace thats slow he/she will adjust it for you and its just insane and they pull fast ones on you they say you have one segment then it pops up there 2 3 or 4 and your screwed 3/5 worst thing ever but i rate it higher because if helped me do my driving.
It has been an incredible experience to do my assignments online, when I want to, how I want to, and even if I feel like doing them on certain days. I admire the lack of lectures and some teachers who just want to hear themselves talk. It is way better than in a classroom in my opinion, that's for darn sure.
It is a pretty good experience, all the teachers are great and respond to your question almost immediately. The only complaint is I am taking a few classes and all are different formats. The lesson button only works on 2 of my classes. Beside the difference in user interface everything is wonderful.
Amazing teachers, simple, no rush, friendly, and you can choose your own hours on your school work. The teachers always respond on time and everything is just so easy.
I hate flvs its so stressful.Stupid!!!!!!!!! I hated it so much. Waste of my time. TEACHERS ARE USELESS.... they dont help just argue and dont care. I still finished my course though
I am taking Latin 2 with flvs and it is the worst. there have been five instances where i have gotten in the tutoring room and no teachers have been in the tutoring room when they were scheduled to be, the teachers are often rude, the website hasn't been updated SINCE 2008. On top of that the lessons are confusing, the site is covered in bugs, I'm constantly being timed out because of issues with the website even if i have only been in for a short time. The only thing good about flvs is being done with it. (Also I'm not saying this because I'm doing badly in the course, i have gotten an A in both segments.)
genuinely one of the worst years i ve ever experienced in school. none of the teachers helped me or even tried. i fell behind due to lack of communication and my teachers just made me feel horrible about it instead of helping me. if you re considering this program i d recommend any other online schooling, save yourself from a horrible experience. there are also discussion based assessments where you get graded on a one on one call with your teachers, you mess up your words and you get a bad grade, it is terrible! i have severe anxiety and ADHD, my teachers did not care at all no matter how many times i called the program to try and fix this they would just try offering me a tutor, and they would not listen to my complaints. also this program you practically teach yourself! DO NOT EVER I MEAN EVER put your students in this. the 5-star rating are all full of bologna. they just respond with the same automated text for each low rating, if they really wanted to help they would ve done something by now. they said you can make ur own pace charts but that is a LIE. if you don t submit 30+ assignments a week you ll be severely behind.
AWFULL!!!!!!!!!! It's so disorganized and it sucks. I don't really mind the teachers but everything is just awful. The assignments are awful, they expect a lot of crap from you.
I can't speak for every class, but AP Statistics has been a reasonably good experience so far. I'm taking 6 AP classes in high school including this one, and, while I am busy, it is far from cripplingly so. The overall rating may appear low, but keep in mind how a lot of these reviews aren't exactly the most serious. That's not to say it won't necessarily be somewhat stressful. All tough classes should be. But if you are self-motivated, care about your grade, and have immediate access to a good computer, I'd certainly think you would be able to handle the average virtual school class. From what I've heard, our in school statistics class does not go far enough in-depth, but here I can definitely say I am learning new things. I definitely think the school should be an option for most students.
I love FLVS. It is the perfect way to get an education at your own pace. I love the freedom I have with it. It has completely changed my life. No more homework, stress, and sleepless nights hurrying to study or finish an assignment. I am a high school student and the teachers are amazingly patient and kind.
I love Flvs Being homeschooled helped me manage my time and work at my own pace. I was able to do a homeschool program for ballet and still have plenty of time for Flvs. I even finished school a couple weeks early! Loved my experience
One of my older children did FLVS homeschool. It's a good program as long as a parent is dedicated to teaching their child; it is not a virtual Charter School ... Our younger son did the FLVS Flex Elementary through homeschool it's just that homeschool but you have the advantage of live classes, printable curriculum set up for you and the support of teachers. If you want your child to have a traditional school schedule and sit in front of the computer being taught by a teacher everyday, then choose K12 or FLVS full-time. On the other hand, if you want to have a much more flexible schedule, the ability to teach how your child likes / needs to learn and just a few virtual classes a week, then the FLVS Flex Elementary for homeschool or unschoolers is great.
My son of 13 is enrolled in the FLVS PE class. He is going into 8th grade Middle School. The purpose of enrollment was not to get a jump start on class credit at the High School Level.
While he had originally taken the course for the purpose of self-esteem to become more socially acceptable, the road lead to a far more important and what I trust will be a longer lasting life-time set of skills that exceed the social acceptance of the of looking good.
This course is one that could have been renamed as character building more so than PE which is what most people think.
The agenda, of course, provides for strengthening the body which creates a sense of stamina. This stamina is not just shape, or strength found on a bench press. Instead the combination of the breathing, stretching, agility, general balance ,pulse, exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide beyond the "couch potato" creates a sense of self-worth that enhances performance of other venues.
Longer periods of mental concentration, the ability to set and achieve goals with modest advancement, self-worth, wisdom and the natural chemical interaction through exercise are what helps anyone perform at their peak and attain a sense of well being.
The course is laid out with a sense of sequence and the teacher support is acceptable at any time.
Don't kid yourself into thinking you know what a course like this brings. The more knowledge that is gained the greater the results. It is equally a behavioral science as it is a conditioning method.
I highly recommend it as a set of tools for how to enjoy life to its fullest.
I wanted to write about how much FLVS has helped me with homeschooling. The teachers are amazing. Mrs. Murtha and all the other teachers have always been so encouraging to my son. The teachers call back. The assistant principal calls back. I have nothing but great things to say about your organization. I cannot wait to see the different new changes FLVS has for us. ZOOM is great :) :) TY again
terrible school with the worst teaching method ever. do this annoying deadlines with annoying tests that once you do it so often all you want from the lesson is just to learn how to easily do the tests to get it over with and not get behind pace and if you do get behind pace cause you have to schedule a DBA they bombard your parents with texts and calls giving them stress
whos idea was it to make these boring white tests and do the same stupid routine of read the lesson and answer the test huh? what monkey head thought that was a good idea to teach kids huh yeah make learning bland and a chore jesus christ monkey heads.
and they were so stupid in the head they got a data breach that screwed students over now i get robo calls every day thanks a lot idiot monkey heads
you can ask any student and they will agree with me on some degree.
i did one module called for a dba and my teacher NEVER CALLED BACK OR ANSWERED she called back a few times and i called back when she told me to and she STILL DID NOT ANSWRRRR flvs is the worst school EVER im a hardworking student i should not be stuck with tachers that dont even answer calls or congratulate and honor a studen for his HARD WORK flvs is the WORST EVER and DO NOT DO FLVS IT IS BAD DO KHANACADEMY OR SOMETHING BUT FLVS IS HORRIBLE IT SUCKS ITS ANNOYING LIKE ALL OF MY FRIENDS UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH FLVS IS THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd rather pick raisins up with boxing gloves. I'd rather try to walk on my feet without using my heels or toes. I'd rather lick the dust on my grandmother's knife than take an FLVS class. You don't have to respond to this. There's no way you can possibly make it better. It's that bad. Sorry kids. Sorry you have to take a class.
I give 5 stars for the teachers and curriculum . However, getting a hold of a "real" person to get personal records etc I give FLVS a 1. No longer enrolled as a full time student we have found it very difficult to get test scores and transcripts to our son's new school. They blocked us out of the system at the end of the school year so we are unable to even go back and review his final grades. Also we still have not received any information concerning his testing scores or a final report card. I was told by a representative to request his transcripts using a site call Parchment Exchange. I created an account requested the transcripts be sent to the school counselor, and even paid for a hard copy to be sent directly to me. They took my money but put my request on hold. The site now claims that FLVS has no record of my son and can't process the request. The process has become very time consuming and frustrating.
I just finished up my online credit with Fitness Lifestyle Design and I have to say that Mrs. Morse is great teacher. She was very helpful and and caring. She helped me during her time off so I could get everything done within the deadlines for graduation and I just wanted to show some appreciation.
I wish i could have gave this a zero stars if i could have. well first of all the site crashes down every time i try to go on the site. i would have to restart the computer and still wont be able to log in. Even with it having 16 gigs ram, 3.20ghz cpu, and wifi that goes atleats 120mbs per second. then my teacher would ask why i have zeros and would still not want to report the issues i am having. Then the test would have the same questions
Thank you so much for your efforts and patience with Trey. He grew as a writer and a student in your course, and I am sure he would not have done so well without your encouragement and motivation. You did not accept mediocre work and he learned how to rise to the a higher standard. I appreciated your efforts with him more than I can say. He actually started writing short stories recently - he is learning how to create a plot! Thank you so much.
My daughter has just finished her Civics class with Mrs. Jennifer Vega and I wanted to take a moment to tell you what a great experience it was working with this teacher. She was kind, helpful and conscientious throughout the course and made great effort to work with my daughter s special needs. She is an excellent teacher and, in my opinion, a great asset to FLVS.
so i was just about to log in into flvs. Until i saw that my password wasn't working. so i tried again about 3 times and it still did not work, but it said that my password was expired. I thought that it was just a little mistake.so i just rested my password and got a new one from gmail to enter in. And little do I know that didn't work either. So during that time i was just trying again . i resetting about by password 2 times. And still not logging in. then i decided to think that if i was withdrawn. am i withdrawn? because i didn't get nothing saying that i was.
If there was a way to give FLVS zero stars I would. Forcing students to take FLVS courses to graduate is the worst decision Florida's education has made since adopting Common Core. You learn absolutely nothing in these courses, the lessons are obsolete and offer no real knowledge. The website is awful and my interactions with my teacher have been nothing but frustrating because she is unable to properly help me without seeing what I am doing. Every student at my school hates their FLVS class. There is plenty of irony in calling it "FLVS Flex" because nothing about it has any type of flexibility.
FLVS has been nothing but amazing! I'm so happy to have taken classes here. All my teachers have been attentive, helpful and inspiring. This place is awesome.
The teachers are great and very responsive, however, that is where the positive about FLVS ends. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. It is not unusual to sit on hold for hours for tech support. When you have a problem, you literally cannot reach a human being. Ever. And do not accept the "we'll call you back when we have a replacement available" option. I have tried that 3 times already and never get a call back. I cannot get my daughter registered for her classes this year and I get nothing but messages saying there are 200+ people in the queue ahead of me. Its ridiculous.
I think everyone who gave a bad review has no idea how to use the platform, lol.
Besides that, it's a great school! I would recommend it if you live in Florida. There are lots of cool classes to take, also. I took a Mandarin Chinese class for 3 years with great teachers. The best teacher being Mrs. Wang, she was very helpful and kind.
Edit: the assignments are slightly change but there is still questions that are not in the lessons and the websites keeps on crashing. The teachers are very nice but DBA's with them vary. I will give FLVS a higher review if the update it. This is your last chanch FLVS or this review will be 1 star again Old: Here is my experience with FLVS so far: Why does it always have errors in the website? You have to log back in to FLVS if it logs you out and it is just a waste of time. Plus the assignments are way too hard. Why do we have to type a whole PARAGRAPH about what we revised about our body paragraphs in ELA? There is so many writing essays and some elective classes have more modules than the ones that you actually need! The instructors don't grade fairly and nobody has time to type their work in or make a slideshow. Sometimes on the tests, It gives you questions that wasn't even in the lesson. Listen, I work at a restaurant FULL TIME and I have to do Chinese WRITING and it is better than this messed up school. And you don't even want to know how long some customers take to place their order here. Us humans have to SLEEP, EAT, and do many other things! Virtual school is not the only thing we do in our life time. Why can't we just send a picture of our essays to our instructors? Sometimes the interactive activities do not even work! The instructors are somewhat helpful. The website is terrible because this school is basically a barely well organized BOOK and gives you questions about it! This virtual school needs to be updated because it is clearly outdated. Shout out to 6th grade module 2 ELA on how to see if a website is reliable or unreliable and if it is outdated or not. Also the some of the instructors didn't even noticed that I was withdrawn from a course! I texted them to put it up for me but it took a couple of days for them to reply! So now I'm currently behind because of that. This school waste too much time and money for our electric bills. Now school is a full time job. Can't wait until pandemic is over so I can attend public school. It is not our fault that us students have to attend FLVS because of our safety. It's the brainless people who can't put a mask on so shout out to them. I other words this school is too stressful. Even though there are complaints , nothing is being done about it. I would go on but I have to throw my computer off a plane first because of the stress this school made.
honestly the worst thing you can do. You really don't learn anything , all you do is study what you have to pass so you don't get a real general knowledge about what class you're in.
Yes, FLVS courses are difficult. You've got your work cut out for you. But if you're behind in a course its completely your fault. Although sometimes teachers are too busy and sometimes that may be reasoning for why your behind. But overall its because your lazy. FLVS gives you many opportunities to get ahead in your work you just have to put fourth all effort. Self motivation is key in this situation. So, if you lack motivation or are just lazy overall, I wouldn't recommend it.
As a student, I was taking the Online Algebra course. Honestly, the only good things about this site are that the actual teachers are nice, and that it's accessible online. It ends there. The entire math program they had designed constantly goes off-topic, and sets you up to fail. If they show you how to do a certain equation, you get the handle on it, then you take the test. The test MIGHT have 2-3 questions about what you studied IF you're lucky. When I first signed up, I thought it was going to be like a normal math class. You learn equations, how to calculate, and you take a test on it. Here, you learn equations, how to calculate, and the tests asks questions you don't learn until 2 units later. It's comedically uncommon to find a question you actually studied in the unit. If I was able to go back in time and never sign up for this horrible excuse for a 'learning program' as the entire thing is simply to help murder any self-confidence you had before entering, and make their students suffer to the utmost of their ability to try and torture someone for as long as possible with questions that make you want to throw your computer against the wall, burn it 23 times, bomb the remains, cut down the atoms of it at the atomic level, and ship whatever scraps from the remaining area into the sun. I can easily say signing up for this program was the worst decision I've EVER had. Any already unenjoyable part of school is stripped away here, and made even worse. The actual human teachers try to help you reflect on what you know, for a test that doesn't ask what you know, but what you DON'T know, assassinate your GPA, and try to ruin any chance at getting a form of higher education you planned to get into your future. If it was up to me, I'd shut this program the instant I saw most of the questions here. If you planned to find an easy to navigate site, you're looking in the wrong place. If you want to find something you get a grasp on easily, run away from here. Turn back, and never look back at this site. The near-impossible navigation system implemented on this clunky site makes it all the more terrible. You may as well be studying birds, then get a test that has 3 questions about birds, and 23 about sharks. If you're beginning to try and use this site, don't. If you get asked if you want to do this, say no. If any of the other classes are even 25% as exceptionally of a horrible experience at the Algebra course, than I'd suggest that you NEVER come NEAR this site. I'm not the type of person who expects an award just for showing up, but this is like making a Baseball player play Hockey, or making a man with crippled legs play Soccer. By far the most horrible, sickening, experience I've EVER had the displeasure and discomfort to suffer through in my life, and most likely will be. This site doesn't deserve a 2 star rating. (Edit) Recent developments from the extreme stress this site places on me is now giving me quite literal health issues, but everybody refuses to accept it because this site is just supposed to be a school program. (Edit) Now it's beginning to ask questions that are made to trick the one whose trying to 'learn' instead of actually quizzing them with questions that even remotely relate to the damn curriculum. I was getting help due to getting a bad grade on a quiz, so my sister was helping me go over it so I could fix what I did wrong, it took more than an hour to figure it out. Keep in mind, she's in Calculus. This program is trash and should be honestly taken down. It's made me question if life in this world is worth it anymore. (watch the bot respond 'Oh no') (Now watch it say 'This is not a bot and is a real person') Honestly if it WAS a real person, they probably wouldn't put up for this heaping load of bull crap they call a site.
i am honestly so angry with this school. i wish i could give it zero stars. first of all, they say work at your own pace but then dump 50 assignments on you and say "complete it by tomorrow". there is so much work that i cant even focus. i have so much anxiety that i cant handle it. when i was in regular school, i had all a's and b's and had all honors classes. now i'm way behind and they're docking down my percentages by the hour. the teachers always never respond. days will pass before they respond, and then you ask for help or don't understand, they literally do nothing. the teachers here really have no patience for people who need the extra time. not only do the teachers leave you hanging, but the website is trash too. half the time its down, the other half it says my login is incorrect.its super outdated and never works. i'm constantly dealing with so much pressure that i find myself crying at 3 am just trying to finish a little math assignment. there is one good teacher here, and even i'm STILL FAILING HER CLASS. i was struggling back in September. ever since this whole year started. they said we had to finish the whole semester and would not let us leave. nobody i've talked to has ever enjoyed this school, let alone got out with a passing grade. i'm disappointed and angry and upset. the semester is about to end and i'm still only halfway through. i hate it here and can't wait to drop out.
noting good has come out of this year. anything you learn you forget the next day. the notes are old and from years ago. the people here are rude and can't deal with children. they constantly make you feel like you are not good enough, even through you're trying your best. i hate everything about this school. be better...
A lot of people are hating, but I love it. Teachers take time out of their day to help you and make sure you understand the subject. Everything is amazing. People don't really like it because of the assignments, but I think they are there to push you in your understanding. (Sorry this is long :3)
There's a huge misconception that FLVS adds in their details about the program... "at your own pace" is the biggest misconception. The learning program overall is great coming from a parent with high expectations. But our family couldn't keep up with FLVS weekly requirements. We have 4 children under the age of 5 and there is hardly ever a quiet time except for nap times. The child we had enrolled I felt was more than rushed especially in the situation. The teachers that I spoke with did their upmost to help. Hands down thank you. But now my daughter can't even access any classes due to the weekly requirements. To me as a parent, for the children, All children should be available to learn.
This program is simply horrible. Its poorly made and the requirements to pass is too much. In order to pass you have to pass all DBA's which are questions answered on the phone, which was extremely hard and stressful to me cause of small social issues I personally had, but that doesn't matter; and then you have to pass the finial test, which could go over 50 question and ask for about 4 essays to be done. It's just stressful and to hard, especially in the case that I did this for a grade makeup, so imagine after completing after about 4 months and being told I failed just cause I failed one test.
FLVS is terrible unless you're taking driver's ed. The classes are very difficult, which can seem like it would be a good thing because you kids might learn more but it causes so much stress it causing the child to hate the application. The DBA's (which is where you have to set up a time to have a phone call with your teachers) are terrible. Not only is it stressful for the student because some teachers do not specify what questions they will be asking, but the process of trying to even set up a time slot is horrid. These teachers have so many students the earliest in most cases that you can set up a time for a call is in the middle of the day, FOUR weeks from when you set up your time slot. Not only is the website terrible in actual application but it looks as though you've gotten malware on your computer. If you are looking to take the "Flex" course over the summer DON'T. FLVS likes to advertise as "It's something you can go whenever and is able to bend around your schedule!" I thought that as well, so I took Spanish One online over the summer, easy grade right? NOPE. It is now quarter two of my in person school and I still am struggling to finish the course when I started it at the beginning of summer because of all the work for a SPANISH ONE class where they expect you to be fluent in the language. All in all I think the only decent class that FLVS has to offer is driver's ed, and that would be mainly because of how quick and painless it was. There was only one dba that you took before the final exam, and the lessons were not 5,000 pages long with essay style questions, in a different language for a beginner class. Spare your child and yourself the headache and just go to a different program, even ABC Mouse would teach you more than this, and wouldn't make you feel as stupid in the process.
With hatred for FLVS~ A struggling Spanish one student :)
I wanted to take the time to compliment Mrs. Donley for her assistance with my daughter's Personal Fitness class. Mrs. Donley was extremely helpful, professional, and friendly. She kept us informed on a regular basis regarding her progress and was always available when my daughter needed her. I would strongly recommend FLVS to other parents and students.
My daughter took two courses with Florida Virtual School. She enjoyed every moment of it. The teachers are very nice and friendly. They followed up with my daughter weekly and guided her through the course. I had doubts before but now i can say that the US education system is in the right direction. Thank you Florida Virtual School staff! The best school EVER! Thank you!
**Be aware that the comments I am about to make are in no way directed towards FLVS teachers. I have had both positive and negative experiences with individual teachers and I recognize that specific teachers do not reflect FLVS as a whole**
"Work at your own pace" --------------------------------------- As I'm sure we are all aware, this is probably the most complained about thing when it comes to FLVS. I understand that this facet of FLVS is most likely due to a realistic need for FLVS to institute a minimum mandatory workload for students. HOWEVER if that is in fact the case, DO NOT market yourself with the slogan "Work at your own pace". Not only is that simply not true, but it borders on (if not completely constitutes as) false advertising. Continuing to use this slogan is unprofessional and is merely trying to lure additional students to enroll who haven't heard better from actual FLVS students.
The FLVS Website: ---------------------------------- The FLVS website is unnecessarily slow and tedious to navigate. It takes far too long to constantly switch between pages that shouldn't be separate in the first palace and I spend an inordinate amount of time bumbling my way through tabs to try and find whatever it is I'm looking for. Having to change my password at given intervals is annoying and I have NEVER dealt with another online institution with this policy. There should also be options to disable survey pop ups as I'm sure the majority of us have no interest in answering surveys. I assure you there is PLENTY feedback for you to browse through here on google reviews.
Assignment Instructions: ------------------------------------------ While this varies from class to class as well as assignment to assignment, I have found that many of the instructions given to students on completing assignments are subjective at best and simply cryptic at worst. This is especially prevalent in instructions on how students are expected to complete projects within the course. This is by far the most frustrating aspect of FLVS in my own opinion and I have often spent nearly as much deliberating the meaning of the instructions as I have actually completing the assignment.
Completion requirements: ------------------------------------------ Course credit should be based on having a passing grade at the completion of the class and NOTHING ELSE. Having to submit work for all the assignments in a class is justified, what is NOT is some of the downright arcane smaller requirements that are not even listed anywhere I could find (I found out about them via comments my teachers have made to me). In the FLVS honors classes, there are additional assignments that must be completed by honors students and that is fine. what isn't is that you must get a 60% or higher on ALL honors assignments in order to get honors credit for the class. This practice is not used by ANY educational institutions I have ever heard of that offer honors and even AP classes. This is also nowhere near how things work in a college environment (I am currently duel enrolled). If you have completed ALL assignments for a class and you have a passing grade OVERALL, there is NO reason for a student to be denied credit. Once again I was NEVER made aware of this requirement before or during the course until it became a problem. If i had been aware of this rule BEFORE enrollment, I most likely would have taken the regular version of the class and not the honors one. Speaking of regular classes, if an honors student scores lower than a 60% on even ONE honors assignment and chooses not to go back and resubmit it (which they shouldn't have to), they will not only lose honors credit but they will have to go back and complete ALL non-honors assignments to even get normal credit for the class because the honors assignments they already completed become worthless. This policy is grossly over-punitive and would never be seen in any other educational institution.
As a final note, I have taken multiple classes on FLVS and I will NOT be taking any more, nor will I EVER recommend FLVS.
horrible staff, took a month to gain access to my class because of a "welcome call" that i didn't complete but had no idea about, if you don't complete a welcome call they will drop your course. On top of the month i wasted trying to get back into my class, I ALSO have to complete my class a month earlier than every other class because i am a senior. How neat is that.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. The teachers are okay but the work is absurd. It seems manageable since there's only 2-3 assignments per class every week but the lessons can be ridiculously long and a lot of the time the assignments ask questions about things that were not discussed in the lesson. The instructions for assignments that aren't just multiple choice are very vague and then the teachers get mad when you haven't written what they want to see. This school has caused my depression and anxiety to skyrocket and I've had to call the suicide hotline MULTIPLE TIMES because of these classes. I absolutely despise this school and every course I'm taking. If you want to be miserable and have absolutely no life outside of school or time to yourself then this school is perfect for you.
Most of the teachers at my sons have had are great but then there's teachers that take forever to grade just to hold my child back or don't even respond to emails or not very understanding of my child having a 504. I do like this because my children get done with the subject faster than if they were in school.
