Let me start by saying I have passed my classes and have A's so far. However, it is extremely frustrating. My teacher wasn't very helpful and when I asked her questions, she would reference emails she sent out weeks before that still did not contain the answers I needed. I wish I had a different teacher. I will NOT be taking anymore virtual classes after this. I'm only taking this to fulfill my online course requirement for graduation. Never again FLVS. Never again.

I mean FLVS is okay I personally think the DBA"S and the end of the module tests unnecessary because if you expect that they learn a lot and all of that they don't need to take those tests or make a phone call, but my teacher Mrs.Ciotti is very kind and very patient and helps me a lot. I also think that the reflections are unnecessary too. But, I think it is still a great way to learn different subjects and all of that! Thanks for letting my give a review! :) Can you please answer me back thanks!

FLVS is the worst way to do your courses. Awful teachers that don't care, assignments with unclear/unfinished instructions, and a grading system that makes me want to drive off a cliff. Anyone that want's to actually succeed and learn from their classes and to get good grades does not want to do FLVS. I did the second half of spanish 3 and got kicked out because of some welcome call that I was never told about. After I got back in, I did some exams. Worst grading system ever. It's a grading key that marks anything wrong (Like a capitalization because you have a thing for capitalizing). Also, when copying and pasting the letters with accents, the grading system changes it for some reason and you get the answer wrong. I talked to the teachers about this and they don't know what it is. I highly recommend you avoid this awful course.

I think FLVS is pretty good. What I do not like is the fact that you HAVE to call a teacher for DBA's, and the fact you HAVE to do co-op ( partner ) assignments. I just dont see it as virtual school if its mandatory you have to do team assignments or contact people. But other then that its good.

this school is the WORST they make you do 50 to 40 assessments in ONE MONTH its to much stress and they dont even help my child. they just toss out work and kick us out if we dont do the work fast enogh work for them. it was the worst decision ever to put my child in this school.

FLVS is one of the worst options for schooling. My highschool requires atleast one virtual school class to graduate, so I decided to take Spanish 1 and 2 online. My graduation is coming soon and I was right on pace to finish both classes on time, but my teacher removed me from class with no rhyme or reason. She did not send any emails, or put any effort into letting me know I was being removed. I'd been turning in assignments on a daily basis and didn't have any problems with the workload. My teacher has but a huge dent in my plans and may have ruined my graduation and acceptance to the 4 year university THAT I WAS ALREADY ACCEPTED TO. I do not recommend this to any student that has any sort of weight relying on the course they take on FLVS. I'm sure a class like HOPE or Art would be fine online but if you're thinking of taking ANYTHING important, look elsewhere.

My teacher is great and she helps me if I don't understand something and strives for me to be better at french. FLVS is a great program but it is hard to learn a language for me over the computer because I am not forced to have that class everyday like i am a school. Although it says you should take notes, i'm sure people just don't do it and they struggle when it comes to DBA's. Overall i have had a good experience but slightly stressful.

I have been doing Florida Virtual School Since 6th grade and I am graduating this May so 6 years I have done Florida Virtual School and it has been a Hard 6 years but Florida Virtual is probably the best decision my parents made for me because at first I hated it but over the years Florida Virtual has taught me so much and pushed me so hard that I succeed in everything Scholastic thing I do. Florida Virtual School is not an Easy A sometimes not even and Easy B but it will push you and help you in the long run. I now would recommend this to everyone that is looking for a homeschool program.
My grievances
My grievances
Nearly complete with this course, Personal Fitness, which I have chosen to take online. I lay down my organized outrage at this waste of time. Though I know you, yourself, are not personally responsible for myself being forced into having to take this credit, I still feel you should be informed of my review. I thank you Mrs.Scheren for being proactive in your work. Though this does not, unfortunately, make up for the incompetence in the design and message of this online lesson. Some issue tends towards the abstract. The other to the content of, Personal Fitness .
In the abstract the need for this, and implementation is based on the false pretext. Personal Fitness is intended to teach students Florida's own prophecy of Health. Though based on any reference into government and Health in the media does not raise competence. It was after all the it was the State that endorsed and pushed such devastating plans as, DDT, vibration fat removal, Agent Orange, Flint Michigan's water crisis, water pollution from nuclear waste disposal, zoonotic disease transfer, Tuskegee trials, and many more. This would suggest that our government should not have any voice in the matter of what is healthy. The forces behind this course, The United States Government; Including Florida- should not be educating the public on person fitness.
Personal Fitness, as a class, is not necessary. An education for both blue and white collar jobs would not have included this course in its mediatory skills. Thus why would it be included in a general high school education? The answer is the Education System's manipulation of words and false promises. By advertising it, teaches Healthy habits it gains popularity with parents. It also meets regulations, but does not have to deliver on either. In essence Person Fitness is a token for Palm Beach County Schools.
In the past decade PBCS have received enormous funds, but spend the least on each student on average. One may even conclude that those in charge abuse these funds.
In the realm of content, Person fitness was lacking in every way imaginable. From the very start this course dumbed down basic facts into a grool that seems to be meant for the most mentally retarded. One would expect more from a course that has had years to improve its self. The information provided on the subjects of personal fitness was even at times blatantly wrong, promoting a statist agenda, misguided, misinformed, or so boiled down it was useless to the reader. It would come to mind that the course was designed so that even a distracted incompetent could pass. Not so much designed to educate as it was to pass every student. To serve not the educated, but the educator.

I have done FLVS since 6th grade and it was rough transitioning from public school to home school but I got over it and had an OK time with school. Since my first year of highschool it seems that the lessons become less understandable. I get stuck on one lesson for hours and end up working the whole day which is not ideal. In my opinion I feel like it would be better to have prerecorded videos about the lesson which would make it easier for people who have a hard time teaching themselves. Other than that I have great teachers and am trying my best.

Horrible! I`m currently taking economics and this class is the worst! too many B.S. assignments and no help at all. I failed American government which I needed to graduate and my teacher gave me such a hard time it was ridiculous. I advise any one and everyone to never go to FLVS. Its a horrible layout. I am not going to graduate because of this stupid Crap

This program is stressful and annoying and you learn things that you will never need. The teachers are annoying and aren't understanding. Most teachers expect you to memorize every lesson and use them in live lessons as if we are robots and can process this much information but we are just kids.

You would think an independent computer class online would be more difficult than attending a base school; however, FLVS provides personal ongoing attention to ensure a student's success. The incremental work is constantly monitored and open communication with the parent(s) is always provided. My son's base school provided an unmonitored study hall for my son to work on his FLVS class regularly, but it was the power of FLVS' community and communication that the instructor provided to both the student and his parent(s) that made the biggest difference. FLVS is not a detached learning experience, but can be a very rewarding experience as the student shows mastery over the subject with the guide of professional and caring teacher(s). I highly recommend FLVS! And if you are able to have Ms. Rusch as your teacher, you won't be disappointed as a student or as a parent.

they say "work on your own pace" that is NOT TRUE teachers are extremely strict, they are always talking about taking you out of the class if you don't submit 4 or 5 assignments a week (per teacher) imagine when you are in high school and you have 6 subjects. TEACHERS SHOULD BE MORE FLEXIBLE!!!! so watch out!

My daughter is taking the physical education course online. She is a sophomore and we just wanted her to be able to take more academic classes so this seemed like the perfect solution, boy were we wrong! This course is ridiculous! You are better off taking the class at school and just getting it over with. The web site is very vague when it comes to submitting your work and it is almost impossible to get any help from the teacher she was assigned. The lessons are very easy for my daughter and she can get through them very quickly, but then try writing your wellness plan and submitting it, that took us a week to figure out and we never did get any help from the teacher on how to do it. Then it wasn't good enough for her and so she edited it and tried submitting it again like she was told to and good luck with that! Again no help! This is the worst thing I have ever encountered! I do not recommend this course to anyone! Hopefully other courses are better, but just take PE at school! This isn't worth it! My daughter is in good shape and active, 5' tall 110 lbs and swims daily for the school swim team for 90 minutes. There is no excuse for this, and that is after we had to buy a movband for 60 dollars! Don't do it!

My daughter took Fitness Lifestyle Design through FLVS. She was hesitant about taking an online course as she had never done so before, but the dedication and positive support shown by her instructor, Ms. Morse, was exceptional. She was there for her every step of the way, and this truly made a difference in my daughter's first experience with an online course. Kudos to Ms. Morse, she was truly awesome and Alyssa enjoyed working with her very much!

I wanted to send a shout-out to a wonderful, fabulous, incredible teacher, Mrs. Harris!
My son has been applying to high schools over the past couple of months and part of each application requires a letter of recommendation. We reached out to Mrs. Harris and she joyfully accepted to write the letter. She not only wrote the letter- she mailed it to the school for us. Once that was complete, we reached out for her to fill-in a specific document for another school. Cheerfully and with pride, she completed this letter too. And again, this week, we reached back out and she JOYFULLY and graciously agreed to do one more letter for my son. Enzo had Mrs. Harris for Civics last year- and her willingness to stop her day (three times), write letters, send letters, and be so energetic, positive, and graciousness for her former student is remarkable. I can only imagine how well she treats her current students-#luckykiddos. I did thank Mrs. Harris and wanted you to know what a gem we think she is. Not only is she a fabulous teacher (my son earned a high 4 on the EOC), she truly cares about her students. Thank you FLVS, and Mrs. Mitchell, for finding this rare gem! We are forever grateful!!

I'm going on my second year of FLVS and I do enjoy it better than a normal school system. I left my high school for mental health issues and so far my experience with this program has been very beneficial. My teachers have been nothing but kind and understanding towards my issues that I face. They do their best to help and guide me through my courses, which I thoroughly appreciate. The courses themselves are magnificent, they provide you with ample amounts of ways to do things, videos, and helpful tips. They provide you with a challenge which I very much enjoy since it always keeps me learning.
Excited for another year! <3

You honestly can't really work at your own pace. You have to turn in at least 4 assignments a week, and even if you're trying to finish the class as fast as you can, you can't because every module requires a DBA where you have to call your teacher and honestly DBAs are so stressful and can be at times awkward. You also have to wait until your teacher has time to call you, slowing you down from moving on to the next module. Assignments and assessments are enough, there's no need for DBAS as you already have a big test at the end of each module.

It is a terrible system. it is not the teachers fault though. the "school" "teaches" you lessons out of text book and expects you to understand the lessons perfectly the first time you read it. and the live lessons are conveintly schedled in the middle of the day so if you have plans not anymore.

So bad. If I could give zero stars I would. Teachers have it the worst because they're given absolutely ZERO training and expected to go and teach students. Even reaching out to Florida Virtual, the millions of dollars that the schools are using on the products much just go to the higher ups profits, because it clearly isn't going to the website. Also, try chatting with one of their reps. Their internet services are so bad and backed up you the chat doesn't even work. Worst experience ever.

FLVS does a good job at going over the material. So far the teachers have been quite good and responsive (most of the time). My son's algebra teacher was really good and spent nearly an hour one on one with him going over a concept I was not able to convey to him. That is amazing. However, sometimes it is difficult to get in touch with anyone. The website and the blackboard collaborate program were difficult to deal with. Live lessons were hit or miss. And another thing..... kids really want to work at their own pace. Pushing for assignments weekly when they are already taking 7 classes at their brick and mortar school along with after school activities/sports means that they may need more than one week to turn in the requisite 3 assignments. To be pushed repeatedly when there isn't time in the week to meet the 3 assignments is stressful in the extreme to say the least. My daughter was taking 7 classes (2 AP classes) and I wanted to have her take French 3 Honors, and the only way to fit it in was to do via Virtual School. With her in Band and with away games and rehearsals and all county getting pushed for those 3 assignments each and every week.....ugh. Come on--change the policy. Let work at your own pace mean something!

So far so good on FLVS! I want to praise Mr. Riddler on his awesome teaching skills and how awesome the experience has been for my daughter!
My daughter switched from OCPS middle school last year to FLVS (homeschool) since 1/2019. It was very hard at first to handle all the classes and the pace we were given for the Volusia Online Classes but we adjusted to less classes so she could get used to virtual school.
She loves the flexibility and it has really given her motivation to get ahead in other courses. She will begin the second segment in Guitar but I do want to acknowledge Mr. Riddler. He understands her guitar technical questions he goes above and beyond with actual examples that will help her. He gave her a practice guide for strengthening her fingers. She actually spends a lot of time on her guitar on purpose and I love it because he has motivated her and we actually hear the difference!
I can compare with the actual classroom comparison when she did her semester at OCPS. I remember she had her first concert at her school when she began guitar last year and she was so nervous and said Mom I am not really ready for this, the teacher hasn t teach us the songs and I thought it was going to be more challenging to do a virtual class but this setting actually benefits her. She understands her notes and constantly try to create music at the house!
Yay for Mr. Riddler!!!

I like FLVS a lot! I see a lot of bad reviews based solely on the fact that teachers are constantly pestering you to do work, well there is a really easy solution to that problem! Do the work! I enjoyed all the teachers I worked with and they all seemed personable and nice. I would recommend this to anyone but if you do it s a time commitment for sure, set aside atleast 2-3 hours per week per class you take and you ll do fine!

I am a student at Flvs grade 7th and it has been a great experience for me and my family. I love how the system works and how i can go a my own pace. I also, like how you can get floating weeks were you can take a small break from school. If you need help on an assessment teachers are there to help you, they also have a ''Help Cite'' to help you with any problem that you have with an assessment. There is so much more great stuff about FLVS. Hope this helped.

As a student, I enjoyed my experience with flvs. It was stressful and hard at first, like anything new, but thanks to my parents and teachers I learned to suck it up and do it. I never did all my subjects online, but throughout a couple years I took reading, life management, and drivers ed. (I recommend the drivers ed course, it's super easy and saves you from the long drug and alcohol test!) After dual enrolling for three years though, the math class I'm taking now is a piece of cake. Virtual school is so flexible, if you have a busy week and don't complete the suggested three assignments, it's not the end of the world. Worst case scenario the teacher calls and checks on you. I defiantly would recommend flvs for a student who can work well on their own.

I see so many people rating this 1 star but the system itself is 4 stars. The reason I gave 3 stars is problems in contacting. I love the system of FLVS and it works great. I take 3 courses BUT 2 of my instructors take anywhere from 2 days to 1 week to respond to my questions, concerns, and emails. In my most recent case to the time I post this review, I requested access to the test I need to take to be able to move on, the end of module test. I asked about a week ago but when I tried to get in today, it was still locked and my instructor hadn't emailed me back. Also, I would've asked for help about this under the contact section of FLVS BUT it was very un-user friendly. I had to log into something but no matter what I tried, my registered email, my name, my username, etc and no matter which of my passwords I used, nothing worked. Basically, I had no contact with FLVS of my troubles or with 1 of my instructors about unlocking a test for me. Again, it's a good system and nice other than those issues but of the contact problems, it's quite bothering. One last note, it says to work at your own pace but they are generous to tell you how much you've completed in percent form and also give different pace charts for planning your pace. BUT sometimes the pace charts will say that the only way you'll be able to finish the course on time is if you complete 4 assignments in 1 week. Not only that but sometimes each of those single assignments take about 1 week to do. An example of this is the PE course. Each week I have to do either 2 or 3 lessons, each lesson with up to 4 assignments, including 1 log. The logs themselves take 1 week to do, just 1 log. Like a lot of the other reviews say, yes, it CAN be stressful. But don't lose hope if you do this system. I started 2 of my courses 2 weeks late due to issues with getting it approved by my counselor and then some technical difficulties with it not letting me in, but I'm almost completely caught up with them. With 1 I'm still quite far behind, by about 15%, and it's for PE. It's hard. One example of how long the logs take is the dance lesson. 1 week for the log and then you have to choreograph a dance and take a video of yourself performing it with the song for it. That assignment PLUS 2 others in 1 WEEK! AND you have to turn in the video, but the lesson teaches dance etiquette, not HOW to dance! Overall, the whole thing is OK and I WOULD recommend it although it could use improvement.

The lessons do not explain the material very well but luckily i found out that in some subjects you can watch videos to help you understand better. The bad part is that this is not for every lesson so whenever there's not a help video it makes the lesson very hard. Some students work better reading the information to themselves and others need to hear it verbally explained to them. I had a science teacher last year who did this for every single lesson and I had the best grade i've ever received in a class. This would be an amazing addition to flvs if this could happen in every subject for every lesson.

FLVS is repulsive. Every night when I tried to sleep, I couldn't because of the amount of stress that built up and the teachers did not care. I had to work a ridiculous number of hours each day just to submit enough of my assignments to finish what was due by the end of the week. Florida virtual does nothing but feed you lies. They say things to the effect of "FLVS gives you one-on-one, personalized learning experiences with your teachers, and it lets you be flexible, as well as learning at your own pace." This is completely false and I actually felt like Florida virtual "owned me" and I had no freedom. If you are considering enrolling through FLVS, please do not go through with it; you will regret it. I am a student who has taken Florida Virtual School full time and I'd like to remain anonymous.

I can't begin to tell you how frustrated it makes ...
I can't begin to tell you how frustrated it makes me to read through some of these reviews. Most are criticizing FLVS for lengthy assignments, pace guidelines, and teacher reachability.
First, why did you expect short assignments in the first place? The majority of FLVS users are course recovery, which means that they have failed and are attempting to replace that failing grade with a passing one. FLVS wants to make sure that they aren't the "push-over option" that students take hard classes through instead of in-school.
Second, why would you complain about the pace options anyway? Most students are obligated to complete a mere three assignments a week through FLVS where they would get more work in-school.
Third, why would you criticize the teacher reachability at all? FLVS is an online public school district that gives students opportunities. You have the opportunity to get ahead, catch up, or substitute. Because FLVS opens so many opportunities, lots of schools recommend it and lots of students use it. How else can you assist numerous amounts of students virtually other than the current FLVS model.
Finally, I am a student. I am not a teacher. I am not an adult. I love Florida Virtual School for the opportunities it has given me, the genuine care of the teachers, and the philosophy of the company.

the teachers don't contact you when there is a problem they just nock you out of your course and after 3 failed attempts of trying to contact my teacher i don't know what to do. I've been talked to like I'm stupid, if i ask for help i get a generalized response to go to the help page even though i clearly stated in my email that i already did so. this school is so stressful you don't know how much I've procrastinated because i don't understand the work and the"workload" is so much I've literally cried because of it. the reason i did this school is because i have a medical condition that makes it hard for me to go to school. i would rather pass out everyday at my normal school than take this school again!

It's terrible, I heard Soulja Boy took a class here and lost swagger. Teachers unresponsive and don't even hit you up to match.

Honestly, forget the teachers. The website itself is barely functioning. With four diffrent types of schools on one site, its hard to reach help for your specific problem. Just calling about getting courses reschedualed took over an hour, because I had to be constantly redirected. As for the navigation, you are screwed. Submiting a help ticket is confusing, the other contact methods are slow. The documents are all in word, so you are out of luck if you cant afford or don't have it. Transfering documents to google docs is hard or impossible, because of the format. The tests are poorly set up and confusing. The courses move slowly and come across as very condesending, using simple, childish phrases to explain simple concepts, like saying, "Push your turbo button," instead of "You need to work hard to get better." The whole process is frustrating, slow, and broken.

I just had a terrible experience with your algebra 2 class. The fact that they don't allow module exam resets is absolute bullcrap and when I completed my segment one exam part 3 my teacher gave really poor feedback. Thanks for ruining some of my chance to get into any software/computer engineering career flvs

I started Florida virtual school back in April, its been an interesting experience to say the least. The at your own pace motto is quite stretched as a student because the teachers are very strict on when things are submitted and how they're done. I left a normal school due to mental illness and my own safety, and the grace period was extremely stressful on me, the countless calls i received from my instructors because i was a few days behind were even more stressful. For the last year i have dealt with court, and other various things to make sure i was safe from the abuse of my past. I was demanded to explain why i was behind and why i wasn't on pace. i didn't feel comfortable with the instructors always asking. That's been my only issue throughout the program.
Thank you.

I can't believe the bad reviews, FLVS is the best schooling experience you could ask for, you're safe at home, the teachers are amazing, the clubs give homeschooled students a social experience, the courses are quick, fun, informative and easy once you get the hang of. Wonderful school, ignore the bad reviews, if I didn't find it until 6th grade, I would have been part of it all my life and I plan to stay part of it until the end of high school. Great job teachers, staff and faculty! What you do with FLVS is amazing and is very appreciated!

FLVS is really wonderful for those who have the dedication and work ethic to take responsibility for their own work. I have had incredible teachers who cared about my success and have taken the time to help and encourage me. The courses are rich in information and are interesting. I would say that FLVS is not for those who are not self motivated and need a lot of pushing to get work done. You have to know how many assignments should be done by the end of the week and how much time that will take.

I have been trying for almost 2 months now to register my children for school and cannot get a hold of anyone on the customer service numbers. I ve sent dozens upon dozens of emails and get automated responses and no answer to my questions. They were supposed to start school 4 days ago and I am still nowhere closer to being able to register them for school.

I had a teacher (sherri mullin) that kicked me out her class even though I've maintained an A in her class and had been doing work according to my pace chart. Even after she kicked me out, I sent her messages and emails and never replied.

Do classes at school. This is a pointless waste of time.
We pump a bunch of tax dollars into public schools for a reason.

we have two complaints: As seen above with other students, the children can get dropped from class with no warning. 2. It is not as flexible as it seems; unless you don't need the help of an instructor when your able to do your schoolwork. We had questions, and times we wanted to take tests, and due to restricted times to communicate with teacher, we would lose put to 5 days of study. there has to be another way; there should always be a 3 hour window of response, or it's not conducive or purely flexible on both sides.

All i can say is flvs sucks and i don't learn anything. I need more than just stupid 10 question tests and BDA. Also to incoming freshmen taking hope, biggest mistake you'll ever make.

Good Morning Mr. Gaines:
Good Morning Mr. Gaines:
Just wanted to take the time to write this email to personally congratulate you on the amazing job your staff has been doing with the children that decide to do Virtual School.
Specifically my daughter just finished PE with Mr. Larry and our experience was awesome. We were somewhat hesitant about Virtual School, but we were very lucky to have come across a great teacher. Mr. Larry s guidance through the process was invaluable and he made sure to make this class easy to understand and easy to follow.
Again thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Marco Posada

Pretty excellent. My teachers are cheerful and masterful of the subject. I am only doing it part-time tho, so i can't speak to the efficacy of full time online school.
