Flvs is wayy harder than taking the regular classes the workload is waaaaayyyy too much you wouldn't even do this much in the whole year of school and you have impossible tasks to fulfill I was Three assignments away from finishing a class and my teacher dropped me from her class. These teachers are the hardest to contact and especially if you're taking it along with public school classes. Also DO NOT I repeat DO NOT TAKE DURING YOUR SENIOR YEAR!!! it's very likely you won't finish in time and you will not be walking in graduation. They honestly need to lower the work load and make teachers more accessible. It hard enough being a student taking classes at school then coming home and finding out because you were an assignment short that you have been dropped from the class that you continuously work in its soooo stressful. There is a high risk in taking flvs classes. i believe that they should put a quota on the number of assignments that teachers in certain areas are allowed to give their students.

awful, there are always problems and I was on the phone with tech support more than i was actually in class. every site update makes it harder and harder to actually get to my classes. I don't suggest this to anyone.
this is the best thing I ever did with FLVS flex I am in Broward so I got placed with you All I am so glad i did when my teacher was out there are plenty of teaching assistance that is one thing that broward doesn't have that u all have I am very glad i got to be placed with flvs but the only thing I have one issue is that I got only 1 try on the exams with broward I get 3 but that not a issue
Im in the Middle School 6th grade math course and its really nice! It has lessons and tests and your teacher calls you every once in a while to check in
i like flvs since i dont have to wake up early every morning but the whole work at your own pace is kinda true but kinda not it all depends on the teacher if they are strict or not. But their are some amazing teachers that really want to help you and give you an easier option for things. But the collaboration project i thought you can do that anytime during the semester not on a certain week and i got yelled at by only one teacher that is really strict and mean.
flvs is the worst online school i have ever taken. If you are thinking about taking flvs think twice. My teacher (Mrs. Wooley) is never there when i need to talk to her about my grades, she never calls you have to call her and then she doesn't pick up. I feel as if i am not learning anything from flvs.
I am a 8th grade student at FLVS, FLVS is a great experience if you are self motivated, but it is not so great if you are not motivated. Also, teachers make a great difference in the quality of the course. I have had a couple of bad teachers, but mostly good.
Just like with anything new, you must try it out for yourself and see if it works for you.
It seems like everyone either hates FLVS or loves it with no in-between. Personally, I like FLVS, the teachers can be really helpful, (some aren't, but out of the 10 or so classes that I have taken, only 1 was bad), the work-at-your-own-pace style is great, and most classes are well put together. HOWEVER, be cautious, because some of the electives aren't so great; they usually seem extremely stupid and targeted towards a younger audience. That being said, almost all of the core classes (science, math, english, social studies) are great and tell you everything you need to know. ALSO, (a piece of advice) know yourself / your child ( FLVS is great for highly motivated students, but for those who struggle with finding reasons to do their work, it is easy to fall behind and can get really stressful).
This school is GREAT for me because you can have YOUR OWN schedule, and I am really busy, as I am working hard to become an olympic level figure skater! It takes so much stress away from me and gives me time to do more of what I love! There are some kinks to it, and it is a little hard to navigate sometimes. I do enjoy it, though!
Florida virtual school is very boring and I don't recommend it. It will stress you out and the teacher don't do their job in calling you back. My child has taken four virtual school classes and didn't like any of them. Please read this before putting your child in virtual school it is horrible experience. My son killed his pet gerbil because of virtual school. It was so sad he had to make him wear socks and sandals to school everyday to make him think about his actions.
FLVS is very boring and for the AP classes I've taken the lessons have nothing to do with the exams. The whole "work at your own pace" thing is a load of bullshit and don't even think about taking it if you get bad anxiety considering you have to do a pop quiz/interrogation on the phone after every module. I've only been in FLVS for 2 months and I cannot wait to go back to public school [which I hated last year, but I'm starting to appreciate it now]. I'm pretty sure all of the good reviews are made by people who work for them. It wouldn't be the first time.
My son has taken two online classes during the summer and he does a very good job. It is a great opportunity for anyone that simply wants more free space on their schedules to get more electives they enjoy during school. Keep up the good work!
the quiz i answer wrong , i totally follow the lesson and is 100% correct but i think because the system is trash or bug it say i am wrong , and i ask the teacher the real answer , the tell me another answer and is still wrong , (in flvs maybe the quiz is not created by teacher), and i want to say THE TEACHER IS WRONG ONLY HAVE TWO REASON 1. teacher is trash 2 QUIZ IS WRONG!!!
i study the HOPE class in here ,i want to say ,the system design is bad,way to teach is bad,why every time you re-submit a work need to rename it?and why the quiz question is so confuse? just like the both answer is correct and you tell me to choose one, serious? and why so hard to find the teacher?
about the quiz , i want to say the thing it teach is wrong with the quiz answer , the lesson teach me power can help you in swimming and football ,but in the quiz answer swimming and football is wrong .
like the lesson say A+B=AB but quiz say A+B=C so no one can do a quiz correct even they are the student study most hard , because even the thing they teach is wrong example
Alex has evaluated her skills and determined that she has excellent power. She wants to sign up for two sports that will play to her strengths. Which two sports will be best for her?
Bicycling and soccer
Tennis and gymnastics
Swimming and football <i choose this but wrong
Volleyball and archery
and this is the thing i copy in lesson
POWER It allows you to move quickly while exerting the maximum force of your muscles. Power helps you jump at the net and spike the volleyball, push your way through other players to advance the football, swing a baseball bat to send the ball flying, push off the starting block in swimming, and lift heavy items into the trunk of your car.
yep just like the lesson is teach you wrong thing to lie you to make you get lower grade
and the quiz is really not clear
example
Abigail wants to get better at baseball. In order to do this, she has created a list of skills she will need to improve. Which skill should get the most of her attention in order for her to excel at baseball?
Agility
Balance
Power
Speed
this question don't say all the thing clearly , what part of baseball, the running part ? the throwing ball part ? or the hit ball part? each part have different thing to increase , you can't just ask get better in baseball , you ask like that , actually speed power and agility is both correct
you need power to throw ball , you need speed to run , you need agility to hit a ball
yes , three of them is both correct, teacher should give 100 score too choose anyone one of the three , but not a ZERO!!!!!!!!
why after i use more flvs , i think i am smarter than all the teacher and lesson in flvs ,flvs should just give me 1000 grade because i even know the thing teacher and lesson didn't know ??
ALL BECAUSE FLVS IS TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!
TO FLVS : I COME HERE TO LET YOU TEACH ME THING , NOT I TEACH YOU HOW TO TEACH ME ,I THINK LIKE THAT BECAUSE NOW JUST LIKE I KNOW MORE THAN YOU!!!!
Flvs caused Atari's demise, they buried all the leftovers of Atari's downfall in the pit of torment in new mexico, the gods have shunned upon us, tyranny rules this wretched earth, Atari is dead and they dragged Sega down with them..
Great for high school classes. Much easier to get an A than a traditional classroom. You can re-do assignments. You can use notes for tests. You can talk to your teacher by text or email as often as you like. Teachers are over the top nice like disney world employees. Positives - best chance of getting an A if you do all the work required. no pop quizzes, you take tests whenever you are ready on your time, Draw backs - you need to be disciplined enough to go online and complete at least 2 assignments per week.
As a student, I am very frustrated because my teacher does not answer calls, respond to emails, and does not remember to do DBA's with me. They also think you know everything and don't explain the lesson very well. If their was less than one star I would put that.
I have only taken two classes, but both times, the teachers were amazing. I really enjoyed Algebra 2, but I was not a huge fan of all the writing in AP art. The course material is not boring, and it is much quicker than regular schooling. Overall, I think FLVS is pretty good.
I enrolled my children in this school last year and were bless to have a science Teacher Ms Clrissa Grossman by name, truly an awesome teacher she is there to help the children to succeed. Her language arts Teacher is kinda ok .I also just enrolled her back in math, after she was dropped because we didn't have a welcome call that upsets me to the core.So I now have a new math Teacher mr Simpo who seems really nice and understanding,he too seem to have the children's interest at heart. How can I forget Mr Benedict the 6 th grade civics teacher seems to be awesome as well. ,it's a wait and see period.Mrs Merchant is also an awesome 5 th grade teacher always checking in.But the thing I hate the most they are quick to drop students or withdraw them from courses or withdrawal from the school.if I was to grade this school I would give it a C for effort.
I had been and A and B student until I switched to virtual school, then I failed. The way the site is set up is extremely confusing, the courses don't really teach anything, i even had multiple tutors go threw the lessons with me and then do the assignment with me and even with their help I couldn't get a passing grade. If you want to try and get a hold of a teacher, you may as well forget it. the IT people aren't much help. and my family had even bought a new computer for school, ONLY the school website was ever used on the computer and we had gotten viruses.
many of my friends have tried to take online courses and every single one has said it is the worst way ever, one even said, "you may as well save all the frustration and effort and just give the students all Fs."
FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE! I recommend this to hardworking students that are trying to learn. I have had one of the greatest experiences with FLVS. Seeing all these negative comments really takes away from how great Florida Virtual School really is. I have completed 15 semester long classes at FLVS including core classes as well as elective classes. All of my teachers were accommodating and happy to help if I was having difficult. If you teacher is not providing the experience you would hope then you can either call that principles teacher or you can drop the class after two weeks. Florida Virtual School does promote that students can work at their own pace. Usually classes do require you to submit 2-4 assignments a week. (But, if you were in the classroom you would have to do five assignments during the week on top of whatever homework you are given - so it is not really fair to assume that you don't have to do any work at all). If Florida Virtual School does not set requirements of assignments that you need to submit a week then students would just be sitting in the classroom all year long and not doing their work). I would say that Florida Virtual School has offered a fantastic experience with me. Just do your work, keep in contact with your teachers the best you can, and have a positive attitude... then you should be just fine. You must be a hard worker if you want to make it through Virtual School. But, if you have no initiative and no drive then this may not be as easy for you as it has been for me. With Florida Virtual School I have taken Drivers Ed, Keyboarding, Parenting Skills, Biology, Latin 1, Computing for College and Careers, HOPE, Theatre Cinema Film Production, Career Research, Life Management Skills, and Social Media Skills. I will also be completing US History this summer and plan to take as many virtual school classes as possible in order to graduate from high school with both a high school diploma and an Associates Degree from college. I probably would not be able to do this without the help from FLVS. (I've completed most of my 18 week classes in only 2-4 weeks). Also, did you know that statistics show that students who take the EOC's in Biology, US History, and Algebra have higher testing scores than in classroom students. (I did my research).
I am trying to enroll my son on this school just because of the pandemic, so far the enrollment is being very painful, they ask for lots of paperwork , personal info, bank statements, etc. My son was attending a Florida School , his report card from 7th grade shows A's and B"s , but is not good enough for FVLS because it has to show PROMOTION, Florida Department of Education is no longer retaining students , they just be promoted no matter how low their grades are. Apparently , FVLS does not follow FDOE rules , or they are picking and choosing the students . The one star is because there is no option, otherwise i would give them none. I do not recommend this school, a lot of bureaucratic none sense rules .Finally , after all reviews I have been publishing , they sent me an email saying my son was admitted, no one answers the phone , they plan orientation meetings in zoom with limited capacity, all in all is a joke.Hey guys , I am updating my review, there are some good teachers in FLVS that deserves a credit, e.g Mrs.Santos Social Studies, Mr. Womble, Algebra Honors , Mrs. Lundy , Language Arts 3, Hope ,Mrs. Downs , Art3D , Mrs. Warren , excellent teacher ,Mrs. Deason Science, sorry if I forget some names , and for them I am going to add a star to this review, thank you all . My biggest issue was registration.
I love flvs and my 2 teachers are really nice so this a great learning experience for me and other people. So I have given a 5 star learning experience to flvs
FLVS is incredibly, ridiculously difficult. They have a few courses that are worth your time (Career Research and Decision Making), but for the most part, their classes are harder than an average college course and the assignments are very time consuming. Currently, I am taking US Government, and 3 assignments must be submitted a week. This would be easy if every assignment were not an essay or an exam. I have written more for this class than I have my college English class I am also taking. Simply put, only do FLVS for electives or if you love school.
Im a student taking spanish one and the classes are hard, the teachers aren't helpful, and the class is a waste of my summer time I had no time to do anything fun I don't recommend any class for FLVS. I could easily just take a physical class.
FLVS is how you choose to make it if don't want to like it you won't like it but if you choose to make the best out of it it is good. I did hated it at first but then I knew I have to do it so I just went with it.
The positives: most teachers are very nice, supportive, and help out; can work at different time and evenings and pick up less or more work each day The negatives: exams do not always coincide with the lessons and are designed to trick you instead of testing knowledge of the subject; the DBAs are poorly embedded to the class, if you finish Module and want to take the final test, cannot really do so until you have a successful DBA with the instructor and obtain a password for the Module exam. It is slowing you down and if you are taking 4 classes, thats about 30 DBAs you have to do in a year. This is really slowing everything down. Then, some teachers ask general concepts but others ask details that were not even that important. There should be less DBAs. Also some assignments are very poorly explained. Then, after you get them back with feedback then you finally understand clearly and have a chance to correct them but that takes a lot of time also. In addition, the worst part is you can never see the correct answers on any assessment! How are you supposed to learn and progress if you dont know what the correct answer is to the questions you have missed? I like online education and the idea of independent reading and learning but there are so many things FLVS can still improve on. Had experience with Connexus and it was so much better. The parent was a coach that has been properly trained on all tools, calendar planning, scheduling etc. Im taking my child out out after this year because of a lot of things I do not like about FLVS. Im sure they are on the right track but still have a long way to go.
This school is so stressful. Im just so sick and tried of this school. Im stress everyday and teachers dont answer the phone or even call you back. They lock your account and not tell you about it. The whole school is a hell hole. This school makes me not wanna wake up i just wanna die thats how much stress im in. I called my teacher today she talked to me like im a piece of crap. This teacher Jenny Rette is a piece of crap my mom got so mad at her for talking to me like im a worthless piece if shi. Like shes a complete a hole. Never answer her calls if she does she talks below you. I have a english teacher that dont respond till weeks goes by. I swear how in the hell did this school even still here. This school sucks and very stressful ive cried so many times because this school keeps pushing my buttons. Like im just gonna lose it on one of these teacher and there not gonna like it. I can be sweet but i also can be someone you dont mess with and there about to see that bad side of me if they keep being a holes all the time.
My math classes didn't really help me same thing with Language arts even my MOM got stressed trying to keep track of me and what I was doing she didn't really understand what many stuff was and most websites where out dated.
Don't try to contact any of the teachers during their week long "World Symposium" as you will not get a response to phone or email. This is unsatisfactory.
I love flvs! its so much fun! I finished my schoolwork very fast, Im almost done with all my work this year, in October! I only have 4 weeks left of school!
this is the dumbest site we got to do a lot of work this better give me$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$1,000,000,000
it sucks my daughter teacher make her redo all of her everything the teacher makes her do everything even if she pass I just want her to be done with it but she cant go on is she doesn't redo the assiment.
Nice teachers. But that does not hold a candle to the inky blackness of bad that this online school system is. I've grown to hate it so much that i just stopped doing assignments because they are torturous and way to complicated for a person like me to accomplish without cheating and so on. A bad grade is all that I'm going to get for going though this hell. Oh, and it's pretty much all homework 24/7... witch is it's own special kind of hell for a high school student like me.
If you are looking here, FLVS, try to improve this by not making the assignments tedious and boring. Inject a little bit of lassitude into this by lowering standards. We are on computers and will slack off. Heck, gamify it if you need to. Just make it accessible and NOT a wall-of-freaking-text.
I'm only taking 1 course along with my regular physical school, but I can say that the "work at your own pace" slogan just isn't true. I understand that we need to make progress but the workload is just too much for me since I have plenty of homework from regular school. To put this into perspective, I have around 1-2 hours of regular school work every day, which is alright, but the assignments have to do for virtual take like 2-3 hours to complete since they are long essays! Sometimes I end up having 5 hours of homework in one night if I want to complete my "pace" for the week. In Layman's terms, I don't believe FLVS Flex is truly tailored to fit in with physical school, as the workload is just too much for an honors student. I think it would be better to give smaller assignments in greater frequency to help balance the course. I can say however that the teachers are very nice!
I am in the eighth grade, and i am doing Spanish One. I really like the fact that you can work at your own pace. I have the best Teacher in the world ( Mrs. Shoemaker) and she always comes up with creative ways to do DBAs. Overall its lit.
Worst experience ever. Signed our student up for ASL in January. Told then it would be March 4th for an opening. She goes in March 4th and FLVS accidentally dropped her from the course , but now it s full so she can again sign up for May. I called and said no this wasn t her mistake this was theirs and they need to fix it. Not one customer service rep was knowledgeable. Then I received an email they closed the ticket because she can wait until May. No,she can t, her program needs to be completed , she registered in January for March and FLVS made the mistake ,they need to fix it. It s always some issue with this school. Disorganized , clueless are both adjectives that come to mind.
Everybody seems to hate FLVS, but honestly, it was kind of my savior. Before you stop reading this because of the Cliche of it saving another person's world, read it. Okay, so if you are an Honors Student in Middle School, you may want to take Algebra 2 Honors. The problem is: Your school doesn't offer you that class. Then FLVS comes in and gives you all kinds of Advanced Classes. This is pretty much what happened to me. Now I know I have a future ahead of me ;).
Florida virtual school is a great School if you want to be ahead or skip a grade. Right now i'm in Segment 2 of Everything about to skip a grade in my science work. When students write trash comments about flvs they are WRONG!!!! Some of them at least lol...
I am not a big fan of online learning but only did FLVS flex for one class and it good especially because I had an amazing teacher Mrs. Carter! Give her a raise!!!
I took Chinese 2 with FLVS and I could not have loved it any better. My teacher, Mrs. He, really cared about how well I was doing in her course and contacted me regularly. I also enjoyed the flexibility the FLVS offered me. Some weeks I was very busy with other courses in my physical school and was not able to complete many assignments while other weeks I was able to complete upwards of 4 assignments. Overall, the teachers I have had at FLVS and the flexibility available at FLVS is something you can not get anywhere else.
The course material is exceptional. This is the material that public schools should be using in the classroom. My child is advanced and was bored with school. We had no choice but to go online during the pandemic; however, it was a blessing in disguise. The teachers are the icing on the cake. It has been a great experience for those fortunate enough to have the time to dedicate to home school. There was even Spanish class in which blew my mind being that my child is just in kindergarten. If it weren t for the lack of classroom social interactions, I would homeschool forever. It s great to know that if we ever needed to home school, it wouldn t be bad at all. Thank you FLVS, Mrs. Clark and Coach Callaghan.
Flvs is not bad its just not for me, my teacher was great but i just get confused with some of the lessons. like i said before my teacher was great no complaints flvs is just not for me i like to be told when to turn in something because if im not i just wont do it. Flvs has its ups and downs but its just not for me.
If you are a parent reading this review then I suggest not placing your child in this program unless you are prepared for constant whining, complaining, and general "so-angry-im-pulling-out-my-own-hair-behavior." I myself am a student at a public high school and a virtual school student and can testify for the inconvenience and ineffective teaching methods of this program. I have completed three courses, now starting my fourth with virtual school and all I have to say is I hate it. At first in the Welcome Screen they snag you into their pretty little lie with their colorful design and so-called "user-friendly' interface and that is true for a small amount of time, but then FLVS rears its ugly head. Suddenly teachers start to nag, beg, then demanding that at least four assignment be submitted per week. That may seem easy at first, but the work gets longer, and more difficult. Even if you are enrolled in a real school as well as FLVS, they don't cut back the number of required assignments. This can prove difficult for students with homework and holding jobs. The program is also very time consuming, making the future generation of students a giant lot of "computer hogging introverts who never see the light of day". This may sound as if I am just a whiney spoiled brat complaining because I have to do SOMETHING for myself in this day and age where adolescents are lazier than dirt, but this is a chore for parent and student. Not to mention the inconsistency of communication between instructor and student. While taking an FLVS course, your child may encounter an assignment called a DBA, which stands for Discussion Based Assessment, and on multiple occasions I have called to complete this assignment and the instructor didn't pick up the phone and after multiple attempts, no dice. Parents, please only sign up your children for this program as an EXTREME last resort.
Honestly the worst experience ever! listen to all the bad reviews do not listen to the good reviews they are scumbag liars do not enroll in FLORIDA VIRTUAL SCHOOL WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!
FLVS may be the most useless part of a public education system ever created. Currently, I am an 11th grader that has taken two FLVS classes, and passed both with high A's. However, FLVS classes are a complete and utter joke. Four hours of time a week on busy work assignments, essays which I'm not even sure the teachers read, and pointless two minute DBA's are not worth anybody's time. There is no gain from taking a class in FLVS. The "teachers" do not teach you anything, and half the time they don't answer their phones if you try to ask them a question. There are no real lessons to actually explain anything. It is completely pointless, not to mention very very easy to cheat on if you need to. Please, nobody else put yourself through this horror.
Absolutely horrible unless you are the best student known to man. DO NOT JOIN IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE STAYING ON TASK OR PROCRASTINATE. I am almost 9 weeks behind because of how unstructured this is. This is not flexible either. It sits in a horrible shade of grey between the two and it is sickening. The teachers are never there when needed, but i have nothing against them, but the system this school prides itself on. You could learn more by watching cartoons 24/7. In conclusion this school is only for the best of students. I am not a stupid student either, i just cannot be expected as a 14 year old to be able to sit in front of a computer for hours on end doing mind numbing assignments. ALSO, a tip for those already enrolled, if youre behind, use brainly to quickly answer questions. This school couldnt care less. FLVS students, may we get out alive.
M Rowan teaches Algebra 2 Honors but she doesn't know how to teach it, also im not sure what her name is but a live lesson instructor for segment two exam is horrible and gives you 0 respect.
At first I thought that this was going to be easy but then after a couple of months, it started to get really hard and stressful. When it says to work at your own pace, DO NOT TRUST IT!!! I have to turn in four assignments every week and they are long and hard. Also when I do a Discussion Based Assessment and when the teacher asks me a question, they get mad if I answer a question wrong. I also do not want to be sitting in front of a computer all day. Also the questions are poorly worded and do not make sense. I do not get any free time and cannot do any thing with my family because they want you to turn in everything at a fast pace. When I am done with my assignments this will be my last time here.
im not saying i love flvs i mean cause i don't really like school at all. but i do mathematics in flvs and the lessons give no help, i mean sometimes i will find what i need but alot of other times im totally confused. thats my only problem, other then that flvs is pretty good.
FLVS does a good job at going over the material. So far the teachers have been quite good and responsive (most of the time). My son's algebra teacher was really good and spent nearly an hour one on one with him going over a concept I was not able to convey to him. That is amazing. However, sometimes it is difficult to get in touch with anyone. The website and the blackboard collaborate program were difficult to deal with. Live lessons were hit or miss. And another thing..... kids really want to work at their own pace. Pushing for assignments weekly when they are already taking 7 classes at their brick and mortar school along with after school activities/sports means that they may need more than one week to turn in the requisite 3 assignments. To be pushed repeatedly when there isn't time in the week to meet the 3 assignments is stressful in the extreme to say the least. My daughter was taking 7 classes (2 AP classes) and I wanted to have her take French 3 Honors, and the only way to fit it in was to do via Virtual School. With her in Band and with away games and rehearsals and all county getting pushed for those 3 assignments each and every week.....ugh. Come on--change the policy. Let work at your own pace mean something!
Awful platform. I will never take flvs ever ever again. I know have anxiety because of it. Don t understand how kids go through this. By the way they just responded with automated messages. they don t care about you.
Jodi Marshall if you actually take time out of your day, or make someone else, to respond to this, don't. Just hire competent people who aren't brainless and can think and make decisions without someone holding their hand.
This is my child's first year. I'm so grateful this is an options. All teachers have been helpful and are very easy to get ahold of. Best decision to move him to home school
Folks also need to remember that thanks to covid, there has been a huge influx of new students. They really are doing the best they can, considering the circumstances
Honestly im used to a public school flvs flex says we can work at our own pace but forces us to complete 3-4 assigments a week and if we don't they call our parents etc and omg the dbas i hateeeee them i honestly wish i went to regular school this is the biggest mistake i ever madeee only thing good is i don't have to take fsa
I don't know why people are thinking its a bad thing the is the BEST alternative if you don't like it then go to actual school flvs is easy for those that are good at online learning like in my opinion its the best
The ONLY reason you should take FLVS is if you are a high school student and at least for me it is a mandatory requirement. I have been taking the Geometry course since the end of 9th grade year. I am now in 11th grade mid way and I am STILL taking this course. The minimum number of assignments to turn in is 4 a week. At first it is not that bad, and go by quick, however towards the middle and the end they get REALLY lengthy AND you have to work it out on your own paper at home which is EXTREMELY time consuming, then upload it as a picture or whatever. I do one assignment a month forced by my parents (I hate it that bad) just for the sake of not getting kicked out because I need to take the EOC for it...which I probably wont remember much since I started a year and a half ago. It definitely is the BIGGEST stress I have ever gone through and a really big waste of my time.. if I could go back I would have taken night-school instead.
I personally hate FLVS, because it has WAY too much work and a curriculum that makes absolutely no sense. Then, I went through the reviews thinking i was alone with opinion, and then I noticed- OVER HALF THE REVIEWS ARE ONLY ONE STAR. I mean seriously, this school is only rated 2 stars!?!? If this were a public school, that would mean it would have an F in education! Please read the other comments too. There are kids who came here to escape bullying and depression, and they are now saying that they would gladly return to that than stay here! When you have kids who were straight-A students come onto FLVS and barely pass (like me), plus kids who joined the program to escape hazing and would rather go back to that hazing, YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG. And if you don't believe me, please read the other reviews. If you STILL chose to ignore even those, good luck, you will need it.
Courses are fine. Problem is password recovery. After getting the email for the newly generated password, trying to reset the password using that sometimes works, but most of the time it doesn't. Whenever trying to set a new password, after you know, you forgot the current password, it asks for the current password which completely defeats the purpose of the system. Its a god-awful system and it'd be better if it used security questions like they do to get the temporary password to just reset the actual password instead of getting the same noreply emails and hoping that it works one time. If it used the security question they make you set up for password recovery to actually recover your password, whether its the most current password or just letting you reset the password through a link in the email like how they send in the first place. Classes 7/10, password recovery -100/10.
I'm currently a 7th grader who transferred here for a new school year, and... I love it! All my teachers are nice, helpful, and focus on their student's success. I love FLVS! I used to dislike writings and essays, but last week and the week before that, we learned better ways to write, and all the proper steps. All this, I ended up 100% in my writing! It is super hard to choose, but my personal favorite course is Advanced Academics. Mrs. Seay and Mrs. Longtin are super teachers! But, I have so many assignments over exams, that may be stressful in the beginning, if you work and study hard, it is easy! Although, I like the assignments, you could make do with another quiz here and there. But, since I love FLVS, this detail is strongly overlooked. Advice: if you are falling behind, talk with your homeroom teacher to get back on pace. If you don't, you may fall farther and farther behind, causing stress. Thank you, teachers and staff at FLVS making this all possible.
I've done this stupid schooling system for the fourth year starting this year. It's miserable and I feel horrible because of overbearing teachers and rude staff. I've called my teacher Mrs. Barney(Algebra 2), several times and left multiple voicemails only to receive no calls in return. I'm only taking two classes because I was so stressed out with 7 teachers yet I'm behind in both still. Teachers are useless and the "work at your own pace" is a lie. Don't pay attention to those 5 star single sentence, "This place is great!" "My daughter loved this!". They are either fake, or a rare few.
Update: Just got removed from my Algebra 2 course. I submitted an assignment last night and was a bit caught up with other work for my English class. I didn't receive any text, email, or call as a warning that I would be removed and am now going to be berated by my parents about this. Thank you FLVS for hiring scummy teachers and for being the worst possible schooling option!
FLVS gives you the option of working at your own pace, with suggested pace charts, but I found myself becoming behind in the class by lack of motivation. The workload is a little much, especially with other classes, extra curricular activities, and social upstanding. Overall, FLVS is a great option to have if you are uninterested in public school, or just to get credits on your own time.
FLVS is the worst thing to ever happen to earth! PERSISTENT OR NOT PERSISTENT THIS CAN BE SOOOOOOOOOO STRESSFUL. THEN YOUR NOT EVEN RETAINING INFORMATION BECAUSE YOU BECOME SO WORRIED ABOUT GETTING THE ASSIGNMENT IN ON TIME TO COMPLETE THE WEEKLY REQUIREMENTS (SO MUCH FOR WORKING AT MY OWN PACE HUH) ! MY GUIDANCE COUNCILOR HAS FALLEN OFF OF THE FACE OF THE UNIVERSE AND DECIDED THAT SHE WAS NOT EVEN GONNA TRY AND GET UP! I HAVE CALLED AND CALLED AND SHE HAS NEVER CALLED OR TEXT BACK. SHE IS LITERATELY MIA! SHE WASTED MY TIME GIVING ME A CLASS I DIDN'T NEED BECAUSE I ALREADY HAD MORE CREDITS THEN NEEDED FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE! I CAME FROM NEW YORK AND WASN'T SURE HOW THE FLORIDA SCHOOL SYSTEM WORKED SO I TRUSTED THAT SHE WOULD DIRECT ME IN THE RIGHT PLACE LONG STORY SHORT....TRUST BROKEN! THE ONLY TIME I FIND JOY IN FLVS IS WHEN I FINISH A CLASS! PLEASE LOVE YOUR CHILD AND DO NOT LET THEM SIGN UP FOR THIS!
